Module Brief Title: Product, Range & Distribution
STUDIO BRIEF 1: Project Proposal Project Rationale What do you intend to do and why? I intend to design six different book jackets and possibly a special ‘collector’s edition’ style box to store the books in. I have chosen this as I intend on doing a lot of oil painting for this project and I feel that this medium and the style I plan on working in will work the best on book jackets, as I did originally consider the homeware option but after much consideration I settled on the book jackets and storage box.
THEMES / SUBJECTS What Themes/Subjects will form the content of your work for this module? This should include theoretical and non-creative based content and concerns. This section should identify your consideration of the social, cultural, ethical and creative concerns of contemporary Illustration practice. GENERAL THEMES: th My overall theme is the 125 anniversary of the first Sherlock Holmes publication. I chose this as I am a big fan of the books and I know a lot about them. I want to stick to a Victorian theme as the first publication came out in 1887, which was close to the end of the Victorian era. I have always been fascinated with all things Victorian so I really want to drive this forward and look at illustrations from the time and use them to help me create some creepy, Victorian style book jackets with my own visual signature injected into them.
SPECIFIC SUBJECTS: I want to focus on specific stories and take something from each of them, something quite subtle, and use these to create my book jackets.
