ALPFAmilia, It is our pleasure to welcome you to ALPFA’s 2019 National Convention and Annual Meeting. This year we are focused on YOUR Journey - Past, Present and Future! Our PAST has been layered in love and passion, fueled by the dreams and dreamers who came before us and laid the groundwork to give us a running start. The footsteps we have all laid, the effort,

employers has brought us to our PRESENT - Nashville! Each of you carries within you the promise that you are prepared for the opportunities that you are running towards and I am excited to hear the countless victories we will share in during this convention. Our corporate partners will tell me about the way our ALPFAmilia stepped up to exceed their expectations and helped them meet their business needs. Our professional members will share stories about the pivotal transaction or career decision they made here and our student members will outshine us all as they discover the on-ramp to their future at this event! I could not be happier to share my journey with you and the Board is excited to see how this year’s convention will transform lives! ALPFA’s FUTURE looks bright and it’s connected to the JOURNEY we take together, that’s why we are so excited about this year’s convention and where we are headed! Today, it is an honor and privilege to welcome you to our annual convention in our 47th year as the oldest professional Latino association in the country. We are excited to have you all with us over the course of the next few days!
DAMIAN RIVERA CEO ALPFA INC.
Our theme this year is Journeys…Past, Present, and Future. As we developed this theme we wanted all attendees to really feel empowered by their personal origin story. And through that empowerment we wanted to create an overall convention experience that builds strong bonds between everyone in attendance, from the first-year freshmen in college to the corporate board members who have blazed trails for so many of us. Our ability to make the convention experience a special one is only possible because of you, our cherished chapter leaders, members and corporate partners. All of which work together every day to make ALPFA an impactful organization within the Latino community…THANK YOU!
This year there will be a few firsts and some surprises. For the first time ever we will be announcing our Most Powerful Latinas List as part of our Women of ALPFA luncheon. In addition, ALPFA’s new foundational programming L.E.A.D (Leadership, Engagement, Advancement, Development) will be on display as part of our workshops and our 2-Day executive training. For the first time we will have specific workshop tracks which correspond to the areas of focus that we believe are critical to continued leadership development and success for Latinos in their personal and professional lives. The 6 tracks are Domain (hard skills), Social (soft skills), Wealth Creation, Health & Wellness, Community Engagement and finally Entrepreneurship / Intrapreneurship. This year’s unprecedented 90+ world class professional and student workshops, as well as, our general sessions will be led by global dynamic speakers. Throughout the country in 2019 we have seen successes across our professional and student chapters. We will be honoring many of those successes throughout the convention during our signature events, such as our Opening Session, the WoA Luncheon, and our Gala. Our next few days together promise to be impactful both while you are at convention and when you head home. To make this the maximum impact we need everyone to be active participants at convention. One of my favorite sayings is: “those in the room make the decisions, that set the direction, which writes the history of our country”. The only way that saying comes true is if we individually feel empowered to share our voice. It is our sincere goal to have created an experience for each of you at convention that makes you feel empowered to share your voice, learn new lessons, and meet people from around the country. And we hope that when you head home you will feel reinvigorated and ready to show how the power of your origin story has created a strong foundation in your life that will fuel your personal growth today and propel you to greater heights tomorrow, while you also make a positive impact with us together as a community. Let’s continue our journey for impact together!

E Y W E LCO M E L E T T E R – L E A D PA RT N E R
Dear 2019 ALPFA Convention attendee: I am very pleased to welcome you to the 2019 ALPFA Convention! As a longtime supporter of the Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA), and as this year’s lead convention sponsor, the EY organization shares ALPFA’s vision “to empower and develop Latino men and women as leaders of character for the nation, in every sector of the global economy.” This is because we strongly value diversity and inclusiveness. Our organization puts enormous thought and effort into being a consistently recognized industry leader in this respect and has cultivated a flexible environment in which all people are respected and included. We believe that when differences are celebrated, talented people from all backgrounds can develop, advance and make more meaningful contributions to our clients and our culture. In addition to championing diversity and inclusiveness, our organization strives to create a strong sense of belonging for all our people. This drives everything we do, inspiring us to build a better working world for our colleagues, clients and communities. A culture of belonging can lead to better collaboration, retention and business performance, especially as our teams grow more diverse. That is why we, as leaders, colleagues and team members, need to remain purposeful and deliberate in making sure that all our people feel accepted. Only then can we harness the benefits of our culture as individuals and as an organization. We are excited to participate in this year’s convention and explore the theme “Journeys … Past, Present & Future.” In addition to prioritizing
our overall EY diversity and inclusiveness (D&I) journey as an organization,
we have always had a strong commitment to helping others move forward in their individual D&I journeys. This is reflected in our work with clients, our investments with colleges and universities, and our support and partnerships with organizations such as ALPFA. We look forward to continuing the journey together! Sincerely,

The Most Powerful Latinas initiative was created by ALPFA in 2017 as a means to recognize the contributions and impact Latina executives are making through the business industry and Corporate America. The MPL franchise generates significant exposure for ALPFA, our media partner and for the women on the Most Powerful Women’s list, who are CEOs and other C-suite executives. On Thursday, October 3, 2019, at the Goldman Sachs office in Jersey City, NJ, we will host our 3rd Annual Summit and Reception event. Join us for a full day of celebration and interactive training designed to continue building a fellowship of female executives, provide opportunities for further leadership development via corporate board preparation and prepare the next generation of Latina leaders.

OVERVIEW ALPFA’s Leadership Development Program is ALPFA’s premier emerging leaders training program. Based on it’s proprietary Leadership, Engagement, Advancement and Development Value Circle (L.E.A.D. VC) framework, it offers a holistic approach to personal and professional growth revolving around 6 Pillars: Domain Competency, Social Engagement, Community Engagement, Wealth Creation, Health & Wellness, and Entrepreneurship/Intrapreneurship. Participants will learn from industry experts, interact with other emerging leaders, engage in thought provoking discussions, benefit from group coaching sessions, and enhance their skills in multiple areas of life and career domains. The program is designed for Latino leaders that have a successful track record and are looking to take their skills to the next level. By leveraging group and individual exercises, tools, strategies, mentoring, and assessments the participants are able to explore areas of opportunity, challenge existing limiting beliefs and obstacles, and design their desired future outcomes. Tracking Color
Domain Competency – Building expertise in your field
Skills, abilities, and knowledge required by an individual to succeed in particular areas of their professional career. Ranging from industry expertise, functional and technical knowledge, business acumen, product and application mastery, methodology and framework proficiency, certifications, and subject matter expertise (SME). These are usually referred to as “hard skills”.
Social Engagement – Creating social awareness for better communication
Personal attributes necessary to succeed when working with others. These are usually referred to as “soft skills” and include, to name a few, communications, critical thinking, leadership, relationships, social skills, interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, attitude, teamwork, and values and beliefs.
Wealth Creation – Building long-term wealth and managing debt
Strategic and tactical efforts to educate, support, and provide the necessary knowledge and tools to enable participants in their journey to financial freedom. Wealth creation spans across strategies and actions leading to stable positions in savings, retirement, and investments. From taxes, trading, debt, and investing to emergency funds, saving for college, and buying a house.
Health & Wellness – Optimizing your well-being
Personal wellbeing via the active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life. This can be achieved through strategies and techniques such as nutrition, exercise, mental wellness, healthy living, and preventive care.
Community Engagement – Giving back to your community
Develop, support, and enable our members to effectively engage with the community in order to make a difference and achieve long-term goals. Adding value to the community can be achieved in many different ways: individual contribution, team engagement, partnerships with other entities, and organization commitment at the local, regional, and national level. For our purposes a community is defined as a geographic location, a group with similar interests, or affiliation or identity groups (e.g. race, ethnicity, industry, sports, academia, government).
