ASSOCIATIOU OF PEDAGOGICAL SORORITIES
During June, 1915, considerable correspondence passed be- · the p·resident of Alpha Sigma Alpha a.nd National Officers in 3igma Sigma Sigma, reltttive to ..the formation of an Association that s~ould endeavor to sec~re uniformity of standards in pedagogical sororities in matt~rs of cemrnon interest. Both governing boe.tds had be·en ene.ee,voring· individually to make ·tr..e ir respective sororities ·c ount as an educative force wherever there uere chapters, 3nd, whhn the iden of· an Association was suggested, both 'f.retc qu.ick to see the possibilities i:1 such an organization. ,. . As Sigma. Sigt:la Sigma nas holding its National Con,pention i~ Cinci~ati~ July 6-9, and as Alpha Sigma Al~pa had a .National Officer · living relatively- near, it seemed wise to call a Conference at Hotel Gttite~. Headquarters of Sigma Sigma Sigma. Accordingly, Miss Ruth Duffey, National 'rreasu rer of Alpha Sigma Alpha, arfd· Miss Helen .Bo r; ges ~ a graduate member of the Miami Chnpter of · Al.pha Si~a Alpba met the Council of Sigma Sigma Sigma for p~eliminary discussion Ofi July lOth. As there were some slight · differenoes of opinion · on several points, there rt.as. no 4-ef.ini te organization formed, both sides feel i~ that tb.e ~hole matter could ~ell be left in ~beyance for a ~h11e. so as to allow both sororities full epp-ortunity !or co.reful deliberation. It 1~ custo~o.ry, v;hen .a Penhellenic is fOrmed, to have the olde~t sorority present assume the Chai.rmsnship, 't7hile the next in potnt of age fferves ·.as. Secretary. The Cr.ttinn::mship should then hnve gone ·to. Signa Sigmn:.si~ and the Secretaryship to Alp~ Signa Alpha. The fonner, hoYYever, very graeiously insisted the. t the Uatione.l Presi~ "nt ~ Alpha Sigma Alpha, :.~rs. Ida Shaw Martfn, author of "The Sornri -~: Handbook" and S9rori ty Editor of "The Greek ~change", should be honore t t7ith the Cheirr:ianship.
