Transalp An epic adventure! If you haven't ridden over the Alps your mountain biking life is incomplete. The European Alps are one of the most spectucalar and attractive regions for serious mountainbiking on this planet. As we are pioneers of the mountain bike scene in Europe you will profit from our twenty year long experience. Perfect singletracks, dramatic scenery, cosy hotels. Discover the highlights in the Alps on eleven different routes with us.
Bon appetit – nutrition is important for cyclists and we take care about that.
Cosy hotels – Relax after a day full of adventures. We chose our hotels carefully.
Nice people –Cycling in a group is like getting extra power. Riding together is a unique experience, you get a lot of support.
> What to check!
No worries– Your guide knows every detail of the tour. Forget about getting lost or missing special places - we take you there. 6
Our personal tip for your first Transalp with a bicycle: Don't take one of the offered tours just because it would fit in your holiday plans. Don't overestimate your fitness. Riding every day 6 days in a row with 3000 vertical feet is doable - but not super easy. Even if you are an experienced mountain biker you should consider to book a tour on a comfort level. You will have a lifetime adventure - promised.
Adventure Luggage transportation – You just need to take a daypack - which means you will have more riding fun.

What a tour!
Cycling across the Alps is one oft he best adventures you can have - ask any cyclist, who did this. The route from the bavarian Mittenwald (think beer and bratwurst) to the legendary Lake Garda in Italy is one of the most scenic ways you can go. We follow historic paths along the river Inn over the pass Reschen and dive deep into the "dolce vita" of Italy. It is not about riding fast – we want to learn about people and culture. We avoid heavy traffic routes and hit all the secret spots along the way.
Relax
– comfortable hotels after a day in the saddle.
Historic village Glurns – one of the most beautiful places in South Tyrol.
Have fun
– together you enjoy active holidays.

unknown Italy until we reach Belluno where we indulge in luxury. Venetian people built their palaces in the 16. century there. You feel like travelling with a time machine. Highlights Transalp Slovenia > Alpine region – four days on altitudes of 2000m > Tauern, Nockberge, lake district of Kärnten – panoramic views > Great finishing day in the stunning scenery of the Eastern Alps
>
Between Austria and Slovenia a new passage for mountain bike was built which made this route possible for the first time. A new route with a lot of stunning views without difficult technical paths or tracks. The route starts south of famous austrian city Salzburg in the so called Tauern and winds it’s way through the Nockberge and the lake district of Kärnten to a great finish in Slovenia. The perfect tour for all mountainbikers who want to experience great landscapes without being challenged too much by difficult singletracks.
Comfy & cosy
– the huts for the daily break are rustic but with flair.
Easy riding
– wide dirt roads represent the main part of the route.
Great landscapes
– the Weissensee is the highest lake of Austria you can have a dip in.

Slovenia 6 stages – 310 km – 6500 hm – Level 2-3
Easy riding while crossing the Alps Day 1 Individual arrival at Radstadt/Austria. Day 2 Starting with a highlight: After climbing up 1,000 vertical meters you passed the main ridge of the Alps. The Nockberge greet us laying in the southern sun. Like the passengers of stage coaches in the old days we stay overnight at a historic inn at Mauterndorf. 54 km, 1250 hm. Day 3 The mountains around St. Michael/ Lungau are secret top spots for mountainbikers. After a great downhill we have a coffee break to prepare for the steep uphill. A rustic hut is waiting for the day break before we roll along a high passsage to our 4-star-hotel. The SPA and the stunning atmosphere will definitely help to relax even at the altitude. 35 km, 1300 hm. Day 4 Another highlight starts with a great downhill before we climb up to 2,000 m (6560 ft) to ride over the „Millstätter Törl“. The freshly prepared mountain trouts at lunch break will help us to achieve this. After the climb it feels like flying down to our next hotel with SPA. 60 km, 1250 hm. Day 5 The sometimes mystic feeling in this region in the morning dissolves with
the morning fog over the lakes. A cable car lifts us up to 2000m altitude (6560 ft) where we have a great panoramic view to the scenery below us. At noon we stay at lake „Weissensee“, the highest lake of Austria where you can go swimming. In the afternoon we have to pedal over the Gailtaler Alps to reach our destination Hermagor. 70 km, 960 hm. Day 6 The rugged mountains of the „Karnische Alps“ greet us today. After the quite strenous uphills of the days before you can enjoy rolling in the valley Gailtal before you have to climb up again the hills at the famous Faaker lake. We stay overnight at a great location above the blue shimmering lake. 57 km, 900 hm. Day 7 The big final: At the border to Slovenia the wild and untamed „Karawanken“ tower around us. In this wilderness there is no hut – a lunch package comes in handy. The final day is definitely one of the highlights of the tour before we arrive at Kranjska Gora, which was candidate for the winter Olympic Games 2006. 34 km, 930 hm. Day 8 Transport back to Radstadt/Austria in a coach bus.

My personal tip: » Not every mountain biker feels
totally comfortable with extreme singletrack riding. The route transalp Slovenia is perfectly suited for riders who want to climb daily between 1000 and 1300 vertical meters without being challenged by steep rocky descends or singletracks massed with roots and stones. You can enjoy beautiful landscapes while climbing and descending mostly on gravel roads. The real short technical sections can also be mastered by pushing your bike.

mountain biking in Switzerland, the most famous country of the European alps? Scenery, hospitality and the swiss cuisine are world famous. Our "Transalp Swiss" leads on well maintained but not beaten tracks from the rural village of Appenzell to the classy location of Locarno in the italian speaking part at the shores of Lake Maggiore. In between you could meet some famous cheese making locals, test some singletracks in one of the best ski resorts near St. Moritz and go over the spectacular mountain pass of St. Bernard – yes, where the dog got it's name from.
Meet & greet – the local specialities, like cheese from the goats which reside on the mountain slopes.
Region of Tessin

5 stages – 300 km – 5200 hm – Level 2-3
Alpine Highlights Day 1 Arrival at Appenzell. Day 2 The impressive white slopes of the Säntis mountains greet us in the morning. Through lush alpine meadows we cycle up and down until we reach our first destination, the village of Wildhaus. After passing all the cow heards breathing fresh air you should know why Switzerland is famous for its various cheese products. 45 km, 1200 hm. Day 3 Another perfect day. A panoramic view over the Rhein valley. A swift downhill to the formerly famous spa resort of Bad Ragaz. The pass Kunkel is our challenge in the afternoon. We look down to one of the oldest cities of Switzerland, Chur. 79 km, 1320 hm. Day 4 If you don't feel like climbing in the saddle you can jump on the yellow postal bus carrying you to Lenzerheide. The uphill to the legendary pass Mayensäss, Alp Fops on a dramatic mountain trail is one of the many highlights, also the downhill to the village of Thusis - a classic. We stay over night at Thusis. 30 km, 600 hm (w/o.
Shuttle: 47 km, 1615 hm). Day 5 We head to the legendary gorge of the „Via Mala”, where the river Rhein cuts through the mountains. Historic houses accompany our way to the old pass of St. Bernard, an important passage through the mountains. But we avoid the tourist traffic and climb up to 2323 meters. Overnight stay at San Bernardino, as the locals call it. The region of Tessin is waiting for us on the next day. 57 km, 1670 hm. Day 6 This is the sunny side of the alps, Italy is only a short distance away. We enjoy the sometimes tricky downhills on small singletracks. Lunch break takes place in a rustic „grotta“ and then we head for the Lago Maggiore. The last night and our farewell dinner is at Locarno right next to the lake Maggiore. 72 km, 380 hm. Day 7 Transfer back in a coach bus.
My personal tip: » Everybody wants to arrive at the
Lake Garda - I can't understand this. With our Transalp Swiss you will see alpine landscapes not many people know of. Alone the start in the Appenzeller countryside is sensational. And we hit some singletracks the locals are very proud of. Very impressive is also the gorge of the "Via Mala" wehre Europe's most known river Rhine made his way through the rocks. You will never forget our arrival at the beautiful and glamerous town of Locarno at the Lake Maggiore.

Day 4 A secret trail leads us to a place high above the city of Meran to a small little restaurant with a view. Enjoy your italian pasta and the panoramic views. Day 5 Rolling hills with uphills and flowing singletracks to the vine center of South Tyrol, Girlan and on to the emerald green lakes of Montiggl hidden in the forests.
The Mendel pass has to be climbed before the lunch break - no sweat is not the right description for it. The afternoon is one long flow - on tracks down to the monastery of Romitagio with its brown bears. At Corredo we enjoy the italian food and hospitality of Thomas, the owner of the hotel offering the best pizza in town. 62 km, 1700 hm. Day 6 Quite secluded are the tracks we follow to the Valley di Non where green vineyards and apple orchards cover the slopes. When we arrive at our hotel we see the cliffs of the Paganella, the last hindrance between you and the Lake Garda. 54 km, 1780 hm. Day 7 Grande finale: wild and dramatic is the scenery up on the Paganella and the Monte Gazza where we climb to in the morning. The downhill with nearly unreal views to the lake Garda is the reward. Farewell dinner at the lake. 65 km, 1200 hm. Day 8 After breakfast transfer back in a coach bus.
My personal tip: » This is the real thing - girls (and
boys). The more exprienced you are the more fun you'll have. Fat knobby tires and fullsuspension could help, too. You won't find more singletracks on a route like this. Stunning and unforgettable is the "grande finale", the downhill to the Lake Garda on the last day – 2000 vertical meters only downhill!

Majestic mountains Day 1 Arrival at Mayrhofen. Day 2 The first day is one of the main stages: we climb over the main ridge of the Alps on a small and remote path: the Pfitscherjoch. Glaciers are close and their view helps us to get over the pass. Also rewarding is the downhill to the Pfitscher valley where we stay overnight. 50 km, 1660 hm. Day 3 Huge old castles were built in the valley of the Eisack where we roll on historic tracks bearing directly southbound. Then we change direction to the Puster valley and end up at Bruneck to stay for the night at a place the stagecoaches used to stop. 70 km, 850 hm. Day 4 Welcome to one of the most impressive alpine sceneries of the world. Narrow mountain roads lead us right into the very heart of the Dolomites. We stay over night at a comfortable hut situated at 2000m altitude right between the towering rocks of the nature park of Fanes. 34 km, 1150 hm. Day 5 Today we cross one of the most impressive high valleys of Europe. We see the legendary Falzareggo pass and the glacier of the Marmolata. There is more to come. A steep gravel road leads us to the hut Rifugio Averau beneath the rugged
towers of Cinque Torri followed by a spectacular singletrack downhill. 55 km, 1200 hm Day 6 Normally you will see the morning mist still hovering over the moiuntain lake of Alleghe beneath the climber's paradise of "Civetta". Some hours later we roll through the forgotten and peaceful Val de Mis, through tunnels, looking up to vertical walls and slopes with forests. The arrival at the town of Feltre remembers you that you are still in lively and vibrant Italy. 80 km, 900 hm Day 7 The summit of Monte Grappa is the last uphill of the tour - but one you will never forget. A small tarr road winds up through forests but the gradient is brutal - as if Monte Grappa wants to defend the fertile venetian plain. Flying down Monte Grappa on the other side watching paragliders dance in the air will blow away all your muscle pain. The multi course dinner at Bassano del Grappa will be the last reward of a week full of long lasting impressions. 60 km, 1650 hm. Day 8 Transfer back in a coach bus.

tiful part of the Alps: in the Dolomites of Italy, between the cities of Bruneck and Trient. On our way there are scenic highlights and challenges perfectly suited for mountainbikers. The daily distances are quite short so we have enough time to concentrate on the challenging and fun parts of this exceptional route. A highlight of our level-3-tours.
Singletracks – this route has plenty of the finest.
Rosengarten – the famous heart of the italian Dolomites.
Italian lifestyle – the historic city of Trento is the perfect finishing point.

Highlights Transalp Uina > Follow the route of the most famous Transalp race > The best singletracks in northern Italy > Remote valleys and panoramic views are waiting for you

The Uina canyon
ist the new highlight of our classic route to the Lake Garda. This is a challange for every mountain biker. Since cyclists started to cross the Alps on trails and gravel roads this route is a "classic" – hence the name. You roll from the southern tip of Germany to the Lake Garda in Italy and you hit a lot of historic places. Every day between 1200 and 1800 vertical meters make it a hard tour. But it is manageable. Don't tell the others about the small secret tracks we found - because they are not in guide books and we want it to stay like this.
Panoramic views – to the Lake Reschen and the italian glacier Ortler.
Stay focused – singletrack riding every day.
Finish line – at the end you feel like a real team.

6 stages – 400 km – 9850 hm – Level 4
The classic route Day 1 Arrival at Landeck. Day 2 Over singletracks in the morning we roll to Pfunds, partly on historic paths the Romans used hundreds of years ago. Before we reach Nauders with our 4-starhotel with spa area we have to sweat on the last uphill of the day. 55 km, 1550 hm. Day 3 For our highlight the crossing of the Uina-canyon we do a roundtrip from Nauders. You will never forget this spectacular landscape. We stay another night in our 4-star hotel in Nauders. 70 km, 1950 hm. Day 4 The high plain Plamort gives us wide views over Lake Reschen and the glacier Ortler in Italy. On fast gravel roads and later on narrow singletracks we explore the italian valley of Vinschgau, famous for its vineyards and apple orchards. 80 km, 1300 hm. Day 5 Another challenge is waiting: the pass of the Vigiljoch (1795m). After this climb we roll on technical singletracks down to the small village of St. Walburg. 40 km, 1880 hm.
Day 6 Shady forest roads lead us through 4000 years old larch trees A steep uphill which requires some pushing brins us up to the pass of the Rabbijoch (2500). Local specialties are waiting for us at the Haslgruber hut where we take our lunch break. And we will sip a nice original italian cappuchino later on the way. 57 km, 1650 hm. Day 7 Rolling through apple orchards we arrive at the ski resort of Andalo. Along the shore of the Lake Molveno we watch the towering rocks of the Brenta Dolomites. Enjoy the rocky trail in the area of Marocche close to the Lake Garda. Get rid of the dust while diving into the fresh waters of the lake. True north italian cuisine will make the farewell even harder. 85 km, 1500 hm. Day 8 Transfer back to Landeck in a coach bus.
easy. There are serious climbs and technical tracks waiting. Check your bike and make sure you know what you are doing.Take extra fat knobby tires so you can have fun on the special singletracks of northern Italy called "Waalweg". I rode my bike in the States, in most parts of Europe and in South Africa - but these tracks are one of a kind.

Highlights Transalp Maloja > Majestic Swiss glaciers > Legendary valleys through Italian mountains > Alpine experince and super singletrack riding

The swiss glaciers and the Engadin are definitely the highlights of this tour. St. Moritz, the birthplace of the alpine tourism still is one of the most attractive regions of the European Alps. On a mountain bike you see and breath the spirit of the swiss mountains along the route from Imst in Austria to the splendid Lake Como, where George Clooney likes to party with his friends.
Superior – This 4-starhotel at Livigno is one of our top destinations.
Alpine character – on four days you reach more than 2000 metres of altitude.
Technical – singletracks galore, with rocks or roots.

on’t be afraid – none of our guests will be challenged excessively if he has a good self evaluation of his fitness and technical riding level. To help you find the right level we have a description of what you can expect. We describe also the demands of each route. You find that in the details of the tour. If you have questions or you are unsure if the tour fits your own needs and abilities – don’t hesitate to phone us or send an email. The ALPS team will be happy to assist you with all your needs. Email info@go-alps.de, phone: +49- 89-542 78 80 (timezone is UTC/GMT +1 hour)
> Touring- or mountain bike? Wether you are riding a touring bike or a mountainbike – you have to climb hills and ride downhill when you want to cross the alps. Our advice: Don’t go extreme if it’s your first time. We have routes especially designed for touring bikes (not road racing bikes!) with relatively skinny tires (28 inches). We took care that every rider can master this routes even on a touring bike, there are no technical challenges – but you have to be in good physical condition nevertheless. The routes for mountain bikes can only be ridden with „real mountain bikes“ with fat knobby tires, minimum 27 gears and safe brakes (rim brakes or hydraulic disk brakes). However the touring routes can be ridden with touring bikes and mountain bikes – if you choose so.
Check out the profile of the trip in the internet under: www.go-alps.de
Comfort
For touring and mountain bikers who love to have a relaxed rolling day – but still you have to climb a minimum amount of vertical distance. The earth is not flat. Fitness level: Daily up to 700 hm and 60 km (2300 vertical feet, 35 miles). You are an enthusiastic cyclist, you can sit in the saddle for up to five hours for five days in a row. Riding level: moderate speed, cycling paths, minor roads, short passages of gravel roads.
LEVEL 2
Ambitious mountain bikers
„Real“ mountain biking but technically not too challenging. The perfect introduction to ride in alpine regions with medium difficulties. There are enough breaks for taking snapshots or enjoying the scenery. Fitness level: Daily up to 1000 hm and 80 km (3300 vertical feet, 50 miles). Riding level: You love your mountain bike but you don’t love those super rocky singletracks covered with roots and obstacles. Nevertheless short passages of these are not a problem for you. You like to ride on gravel roads and not too technical tracks with moderate speed.
LEVEL 3
Avid mountain bikers
You love your mountain bike and you ride normally three times a week – or you at least try to. On our level-3-tours you have perfect mountain biking days with flow – and of these six in a row. Kondition: Daily up to 1600 vertical meters (5300 vertical feet) on gravel roads, bumpy singletracks and challenging paths. You should not be afraid of heights and rocky alpine terrain. Riding level: You feel comfortabel in the saddle of your mountainbike. You are not looking for the extreme but you like technical challenges like stones and steps on your bike. You are used to ride on single tracks. It is okay to push the bike – for shorter distances.
LEVEL 4
Mountain biking for experts
Experienced riders only. High level of physical fitness and riding abilities. You are not afraid of long steep uphills – and when we say long it is long. Downhills require concentration and good technical abilities. If you don’t know what full suspension and hydraulic disc brakes mean and take the notion „long travel“ for a transcontinental flight you should not book these routes. Fitness level: You are riding minimum 4 days a week and you know by experience rides with up to 2000 vertical meters (6500 vertical feet). You are used to pushing and carrying your bike . Riding level: Steps and steep rocky single tracks is what you love at mountain biking. You know how to ride and hike on alpine terrain. A technical and demanding downhill is what you choose over easy rolling gravel roads. 35

Mit dem Rad oder dem Mountainbike unterwegs sein, eröffnet neue Horizonte. In 41 Ländern bietet bike adventure tours Reisen an.

GARGANO
Bikeadventure in Apulien
