German Teacher in Charge of Subject: Mrs Snape

Entry Requirements: You will need to have gained at least a Grade B in GCSE German.

Course Details: You will continue to study the language through the four skill areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. In addition, you will study some German films if you opt for A2. A variety of topics are covered and there is scope for you to look at specific areas of interest to you. All Sixth Form language students have priority access to the assistant and you will work with him/her in small groups. We aim to provide you with a wide range of opportunities, by using tapes, newspapers, videos, songs, the Internet, cartoons and other authentic materials.

Exams/Coursework: You will be entered for the WJEC examination which consists of 4 units, 2 at AS and 2 at A2.

Career Options: There have been many reports in the media about the shortage of linguists and the fact that those students who have studied a language Post 16 will be in demand by employers. Potential employers will often want you to combine you language skills with another subject area. The choice of University courses offering such opportunities is extensive: you can combine language study with most other subject areas. Your language skills can help to give you an advantage in a competitive job market and give you access to a higher salary.
