Entry requirements: If you have studied GCSE, a grade B or above is required. However, some students have been accepted onto the A Level course, without completing a GCSE in Physical Education, and have been very successful. If you have not studied GCSE or BTEC PE then you must gain approval from Miss Halstead. Course Details: During Year 12 you will study three theoretical topics that form the AS section of the course:  Anatomy and Physiology  Acquiring Movement Skill  Socio-Cultural Studies relating to participation in physical activity. Coursework –Acquiring developing & evaluating practical skills  Assessment in two practical activities - one has to be a personal performance but the other can be coaching or officiating.  Evaluation & planning for improvement of performance(through video/live analysis)

In Year 13 you will again study three theoretical topics that complete the A2 section of the course:  Exercise and Sport Physiology  Sports Psychology  Historical Studies Coursework –the improvement of performance & critical evaluation of practical activities  Performance, officiating or coaching in one activity  Evaluation, appreciation & improvement of performance.(video& live analysis) Exams/Coursework AS

Career Options: Because of the range of topics studied during the course it can be combined equally well with a number of A Levels. This allows students to keep their options open if they want to follow a course at university. Past students have undertaken a variety of careers ranging from Physiotherapy and Sports Management to wider occupations such as police force. One student went onto Oxford to become an astronaut!
