CONSTELLATION NEBULA
by Ishani
To get a perfect blend of colors, use the wet-on-wet technique! Get your watercolor paper fully saturated, then drop in wet color with your brush.
Remember: watercolor will lighten a bit once dry, so try to keep it as vibrant as possible. Don’t forget to add black. The contrast will make your nebulae pop!

PALM LEAF
by Ishani
Use a photograph as reference when painting an image like this palm leaf. Start by sketching lightly with a pencil to define the shape. Then, add your watercolor.
You can always start with the lighter areas, then use darker hues to add contrast. There will naturally be a bit more shadow near the central vein.

DAINTY FLOWER
by Karen Brown
If you are just starting out and aren’t sure where to begin, you can use our Watercolor Coloring Book. It includes a stunning array of floral images - each design has a version with a black outline and one with grey. Here, the artist used the grey outline as the base for her painting.
Keep areas of each petal and leaf white. These will serve as bright highlights, therefore offering a more realistic appearance.

SILHOUETTE SCENE
by Erum Tasneem
A silhouette against a bright and colorful backdrop is always eyecatching! Start with the background. Try to blend colors that are nearby on the color wheel to avoid muddy brown tones. Here, the artist kept the brightest colors near the horizon.
Allow the background to dry completely before painting the black silhouettes. If there is any moisture on the paper, you won’t get a crisp and defined edge.

COLORFUL BURST
by Laura Jane
Work on a paper designed for alcohol inks. Traditional cardstock or paper will absorb too much of the ink, prohibiting it from moving freely on the surface.
To dilute the ink and allow it to spread more fluidly, you can add some drops of clear isopropyl alcohol.

GILDED BACKGROUND
by Laura Jane
A little bit of gold can be used to enhance the look of any project! Heat embossing, gold ink spray, and even gold gel pens can be used to add that metallic shine.
Use these alcohol ink backgrounds as a base for a card, mixed media art piece, calligraphy lettering, or simply frame as is!

ICE CREAM SHOE
by Jennifer Rzasa
To protect the white surface of the paper, use a removable liquid mask! Here, the artist painted in the sprinkles with masking fluid before painting the chocolate drips. Once the paint was dry the hardened fluid was easily removed, and then each sprinkle was painted with a bright color

TYPEWRITER BAG
by Jennifer Rzasa
Spotlight a couple of key elements on your subject by painting them with our vivid liquid watercolor. The artist chose to feature the red hat and unique typewriter bag. The rest of the piece was completed with a Fine Liner Pen so as to not distract from the hat and bag.
The liquid watercolor is already a great consistency for painting, so diluting it with water is not necessary. This is how the vibrant look was achieved.
