WELCOME About Alternatives Alternatives explores world spirituality and personal growth through regular events and online resources. Based at St James’s Church, Piccadilly since 1982, Alternatives is an independent not-for-profit organisation serving a global audience. As the Summer fades and Autumn draws near, this time of year for me is about celebration and reflection, the real New Year as I call it, shedding what is no longer serving and expanding and growing what is. As I enter my third programme, or my third trimester as I jokingly call it, I can truly say that Alternatives has changed my life in ways I never imagined possible. Seeking the counsel of my new found ‘ Elders’ and the voice within, I remain steadfast in holding the vision of the organisation, keeping our intentions pure, authentic and aligned to the needs of our of audience. With that in mind we are excited to say we will be launching our very own Alternatives Life Lounge, an informal, intimate and social space with speakers sharing ideas and tips around living, loving, working and being (this will integrate Soul of Coaching) PLUS our very own Conscious Business Club! So lots of food for the soul! Mary Daniels Co-director

Monday 2 September Radical Forgiveness COLIN TIPPING What does it mean to radically forgive and how can we truly forgive those that we believe have hurt us? In this talk, Colin Tipping will tell you that his brainchild, Radical Forgiveness, is a crazy idea that cannot possibly be a reflection of reality - at least not as we know it. Even he finds it difficult to believe. And yet, during the 15 years he has been doing it, he has found that it works really well. Apparently, the spiritually intelligent part of our mind gets it even if the mental part doesn’t. It heals people. It relieves them of pain. It wakes people up from the dream of separation. It shifts consciousness, raises the vibration and dissolves problems. In this talk, Colin will explain how and why it works and what it means to forgive radically. He will give everyone an opportunity to experience it for themselves. Colin Tipping is the author of Radical Forgiveness and is hailed as one of the most practical spiritual leaders of our time. As a technology for personal healing and spiritual growth, Radical Forgiveness now ranks among the very best there is. He trains coaches in the Tipping Method all around the world. His latest book is Expanding Into Love. colintipping.com 7pm–8.30pm £10/£5 Concs

Monday 9 September Ice Wisdom ANGAANGAQ Angaangaq’s family belongs to the healers and wisdom keepers of the far north of Kalaallit Nunaat, Greenland. His traditions of storytelling, chanting, Qilaut drumming and performing ceremonies are directed at melting the ice in the heart. The Elders teach us that if we return to harmony in our lives, melt the ice in our hearts and reconnect with one another, we will survive. This evening, Angaangaq introduces us to his work as a shaman and medicine man. He strongly believes that personal transformation happens as soon as we open our eyes and hearts to the world around us, reawakening our long forgotten inner strength. Angaangaq is a shaman, healer, storyteller and Eskimo-Kalaallit Elder whose family belongs to the traditional healers of the far north of Kalaallit-Nunaat, Greenland. The training Anaangaq received from his grandmother prepared him for his task as runner for his people alerting the world to the melting of the Big Ice. Angaangaq is a key-note speaker at international conferences on climate change and environmental issues. icewisdom.com 7pm–8.30pm £10/£5 Concs

ALTERNATIVES CONVERSATIONS Anita Moorjani had a near death experience and is the author of Dying to Be Me. How did you come to be on your current path? It was totally synchronicity that led me to my current path! I had almost died from cancer, had a near death experience, and healed inexplicably. This gave me a very different perspective on life and so I started writing about it on the internet. My story went viral, and was discovered by Wayne Dyer, who was so moved by my story, that he told his publishers to track me down, and ask me to write a book, which he said they should publish. The book was launched a year later and 2 weeks after launch, it became a New York Times bestseller. What has been your biggest learning in your life? That everything in life is a gift, including our challenges. When I look back, every challenge in my life has been a gift, and I wouldn't change it for anything. I wouldn't be where I am today if I had not nearly died from cancer. One other equally important thing I learned is that it's really, really important to love yourself, and to be gentle with yourself, and not judge or criticize yourself too harshly. Be gentle with yourself.
Tony Stockwell is one of the UK’s most respected and wellknown psychics. How did you come to be on your current path? I was aware of Spirit from a very young age, probably since the age of 4 but never had a name for it or even knew that what I saw was different from everyone else. However, when I was 16 years old and went to my first Spiritualist church, it all became clear that not everybody was the same and I could see ‘stuff ’ that others could not see. After 20 years of driving up and down the country demonstrating in spiritualist centres, I was approached to do a television series called Street Psychic for Living TV and thereafter Psychic Detective & Street Psychic in San Francisco, Psychic Academy and others. This enabled me to validate the existence of the continuance of life to a wider audience. What has been your biggest learning in your life? That it costs so little to make contact in the simplest of ways which can create such a difference. So many of us are held back from reaching out and making new friends by a lack of confidence or fear of rejection. We should all try to cast aside our insecurities and just smile, chat and laugh with our fellow companions; the sound of our happiness may have a hugely beneficial effect on somebody’s otherwise dull and grey day.
What are you most grateful for in your life? Everything, but most especially my husband and soul mate, Danny! He's been my rock, and I just love him to pieces! Who has been your most significant teacher? Wayne Dyer has made the biggest impact in my life. He really inspires me, and I feel he was meant to come into my life and take it in the direction that it has been going! What are the most common challenges that the people you work with experience? Most people don't love themselves. The main thing you have to believe is that you are worthy and deserving of good things...and to believe this, you have to love yourself! Remember, you cannot give others what you don't have, so if you don't love yourself, it's not easy to love others. What advice would you offer to our audience? Don't take life seriously! Having fun is SO important! Make joy your priority, not money. Laughter and humour are far, far more effective spiritual practices than any form of prayer or meditation for leading a happy, healthy and fulfilled life. What fills your heart with joy or makes you feel alive? Spending time with close friends or family over a good meal, laughing together. Being by the sea. I love listening to music. I love animals, especially dogs, and I love watching animals at play! I love travelling and exploring new places. Anita Moorjani is leading a seminar at Regent’s College on Saturday 5 October. What are you most grateful for in your life? I am so lucky that my life is dedicated to something I absolutely love and believe in. It’s so gratifying when you see the change the work of a Medium can have on some people. It’s a privilege to help them come to terms with their loss and it has been exciting to meet such diverse characters in this world and the next. Who have been your most significant teachers. What inspires you? The teachers who have inspired me are (the late) Gordon Higginson, medium Mavis Pittilla and actress Shirley Maclaine. I often read for families who have lost a child and am amazed at their courage to continue. They inspire me. What advice would you offer to our audience? If you haven’t seen a Medium work before, then come along in a relaxed state, with an open mind and no great expectation. Although I use humour in my readings, I am very respectful and certainly won’t air anybodys ‘dirty linen’ in public. The phenomenon of Mediumship is a powerful thing and has the ability to change lives to bring closure, healing and upliftment. Some of the audience will go away with a new certainty that life goes on and for others, with a validation of their long held belief. What fills your heart with joy or makes you feel alive? My daughter Marnie. I am truly blessed. Tony Stockwell is speaking at St James’s Church on Monday 21 October.

Alternatives has hosted me many times over the years. It’s an inspirational place for people to explore their spirituality, expand their consciousness, and transform their well-being. Deepak Chopra Monday 30 September Soil, Soul and Society SATISH KUMAR This evening, Satish Kumar explains his philosophy of the soil as the source of all life, literally and metaphorically. “All life comes from the mother soil and returns to her. I love soil as my mother and take care of her. Soil contains earth, air, fire and water. She is nature herself. If my outer body is soil, then my inner being is the soul. As I cultivate the soil to grow food for the body I take care of the soul and cultivate compassion, love, beauty and unity to realise the harmony within and without. Therefore the trinity of Soil, Soul and Society is a way of saying in three words that we are all related, interconnected and interdependent. This is a trinity of wholeness and unity of life in its myriad forms.” In this talk you will be inspired by Satish’s unique perspective on ecology and its connection to your own being and the impact on society as a whole. Satish Kumar has been the editor of Resurgence & Ecologist magazine since 1973. Fired by the example of Bertrand Russell, he undertook an 8,000 mile peace pilgrimage, walking without any money, through deserts, mountains, storms and snow to deliver packets of ‘peace tea’ to the leaders of the four nuclear powers. Satish is the author of five books including his autobiography No Destination and his latest Soil, Soul and Society. resurgence.org/satish-kumar 7pm–8.30pm £10/£5 Concs

Monday 21 October Journey to the Spirit Realms TONY STOCKWELL Even as a child Tony knew he was different from other children. It was common for him to hear his name being called by someone unseen and for him to be aware of events before they actually happened. To him, all this was perfectly normal. When he was 16 years old he was invited by a friend to attend a local Spiritualist church to observe a Medium work, and from the minute he set foot inside the door he knew this was what he wanted to do with his life and what was expected of him. This was the beginning of Tony’s amazing journey. In this talk Tony will mindfully and sensitively demonstrate live his gifts and insights into the afterlife. His inexplicable, remarkable and fascinating revelations will leave you compelled to want to find out more. Reported as being amazingly detailed, light hearted and accurate, this evening, if nothing else will leave you curious and touched by the experience. Tony Stockwell is the popular star of TV’s Street Psychic, Psychic Private Eyes and Psychic Academy and one of the country’s most well-known and respected Psychic Mediums. He is always striving to push the boundaries of his work, wanting each message from the other side to be as perfect as possible to prove, beyond doubt that our spirits are eternal and are able to communicate with us. tonystockwell.com 7pm–8.30pm £15/£10 Concs

Monday 11 November Surrender: the Art of Getting Out of the Way MIRANDA MACPHERSON All of the world’s great non-dual teachings remind us that we are everything. Yet there is a world of difference between knowing this conceptually, and genuinely residing in the indestructible presence of true nature. To ask the question who are we, at a level deeper than our ego is able to answer, requires a willingness to surrender all we think we know and all we think we are. But how? What will we meet along the way? What can we do to support ourselves and make the process more graceful? Whilst our ego cannot ‘do’ surrender, we can embrace practices that support the art of getting out of the way. Through holistic inquiry, we can witness our usual ego habits of grasping, rejecting and judging and learn to open up, harnessing the energy to dive deeper into truth rather than protect and project. We can become more available to grace, so the sacred presence can find us in less resistance. Over the course of the experiential evening Miranda will share rich insights about the perennial spiritual invitation. Miranda Macpherson teaches and transmits a powerful synthesis of selfinquiry, depth psychology, devotion and embodiment practices. Miranda founded the One Spirit Interfaith Foundation in London. She is author of Boundless Love, teaches internationally and lives in California. mirandamacpherson.com 7pm–8.30pm £10/£5 Concs
Monday 18 November A More Beautiful World is Possible CHARLES EISENSTEIN In a time of mounting chaos and crumbling institutions, how can we as individuals do anything to make the world a better place? Given the converging crises in the world today, many people sooner or later come to face frustration, cynicism or despair. Far from being obstacles to overcome, these feelings are invitations into a deeper level of activism that includes the personal and relational. On the other side lies optimism, confidence, and vastly greater effectiveness as agents of change. Many people sense that the multiple crises of today share a common root. All of them come from an invisible mythology: a story of the self and a story of the people that hold us separate from each other and the world. In this talk, we will see clearly how this mythology generates the dominant institutions of our civilization, as well as the structures of our own lives. We will touch upon our innate knowledge that a more beautiful world is possible. Charles Eisenstein is an author, speaker and self-described degrowth activist. Eisenstein graduated from Yale University in 1989 with a degree in Mathematics and Philosophy. He has lived in Taiwan where he worked as a translator. He is the author of the bestselling book 'Sacred Economics' and his latest book is The More Beautiful World Our Hearts Know Is Possible. charleseisenstein.net 7pm–8.30pm £10/£5 Concs

Monday 9 December Experiencing the Divine MEGGAN WATTERSON Ever since she was a little girl, Harvard trained theologian Meggan Watterson has been compelled by a single desire, to experience the divine directly, not just in sacred texts, but in her body. Wanting to live a life led by love and not fear, Meggan knew the only way this would happen was if she wholly experienced the source of love found within. In this talk, Meggan Watterson will draw on ancient stories and lesserknown texts of the divine feminine making them modern and accessible to reveal the spiritual process she went through. Being spiritual, for Watterson, encourages embodiment rather than denies it, and inspires her to be courageous enough to follow the unassuming and fiercely loving voice of truth inside her- the voice of the soul. Meggan Watterson is a spiritual mentor, speaker, and scholar of the divine feminine who inspires women to live from the audacity and authenticity of the voice of their soul. Yule is a time that honours love and new birth, as well as the collective unity of humanity. Yule celebrates the birth of the sun god - child of the goddess in the Pagan belief system. Yule is primarily the celebration of the rebirth of the sun. Dying to Be Me ANITA MOORJANI
The Power of How TOM STONE
Anita Moorjani has become something of an international sensation since her book Dying to be Me hit the New York Times bestsellers list. She had experienced what most people never have; she ‘crossed over’, and came back to share what she learned. Her remarkable near-death experience and subsequent healing from end-stage cancer is one of the most amazing cases ever recorded. Anita’s interactive workshop will help you to transform your life by learning to live more authentically and to discover your greatest passions. She will guide you through processes that will enable you to transcend your deepest fears and live from a place of pure joy. Her story will change your perspective about your purpose on earth, your health, your relationships, and your life. In addition to sharing her story, Anita will teach you the transformative and interactive tools, exercises, meditations and visualisations that she practices today.
The Power of How provides the missing ingredient to many spiritual teachings and personal development programs – it provides the “HOW!”. In this workshop, you will discover penetrating insights into the real nature of what the painbody and the ego actually are, resulting in living in the now and less in the stories. * What the real barriers are to living in a state of Pure Awareness all the time * How to directly experience Pure Awareness instead of just understanding it * The 8 Pure Awareness techniques * How to cultivate a state of pure knowing and certainty
Anita Moorjani is the author of Dying to Be Me which became a New York Times bestseller only 2 weeks after its release. Access the Law of Light LARS MUHL Alternatives is excited to welcome Lars Muhl for his first introductory workshop on the universal Law of Light. A law that says that all beings return to a starting point, meaning everything we send out, at some point comes back to us. Lars will take you behind the personality as he peels away the layers of ego and self so that you can access your own healing abilities. Essentially this is the experience that Lars had with the Seer, he showed him how to transform people energetically, interpret spiritual visions and harness his lifeforce energy to heal. Through guided meditation and practices, Lars will help you to find a conscious connection to the opening of spirit within and show you how to harness that light to bring heaven closer to earth. The real person is to be found somewhere behind the illusion and Lars will show you how. Lars Muhl was struck down by an unexplained illness, which neither doctors nor alternative therapists could diagnose. Confined to his bed for 3 years, unable to move, Lars was put in touch with a seer who, literally brought him ‘back to life’.
