Ammonium Nitrate Technical & Fertilizer Grades Prilling Desmet Ballestra proposes in house technology to produce technical (TGAN) and fertilizer (FGAN) grades ammonium nitrate. The first one is used as civil explosive and for chemical purposes. The fertilizer grade used is a high quality fertilizer widely used in the agriculture.
Technical Grade Ammonium Nitrate (TGAN) production Ammonium nitrate is synthetized and concentrated up to 96% and then sent to the top of a prilling tower where it is distributed through prilling nozzles over the prilling tower section. During their fall down the tower, the droplets solidify, the heat of crystallization being removed by the air in the countercurrent, which is drawn off by means of fans installed on top of the prilling tower. At the bottom of the prilling tower, the prills are raked onto a belt conveyor, which takes the prills, via lump grid, to a bucket elevator. The bucket elevator transfers the prills to the drying section. Prills are first dried in a pre-dryer with a co-current hot air flow. From the pre-dryer, the prills are led into dryer, where they are further dried in countercurrent. The product is entering a cooler where the prills are cooled by conditioned air. The air from the prilling tower, pre-dryer, dryer, cooler and all other equipment is treated in scrubber, where the ammonium nitrate dust is removed by a circulating ammonium nitrate solution and process condensate make up. The cooled product is screened and coated before being sent to storage. AN SOL. 96% SCRUBBER PRILLING TOWER

Fertilizer Grade Ammonium Nitrate (FGAN) production The process is similar to TGAN production, but the ammonium nitrate melt is concentrated up to 99,5% and the pre-dryer and dryer are not used. In case the same plant is used to produce both TGAN and FGAN, a bypass is foreseen. In addition, the prilling devices are different to match the different final product size requirements.
