PROJECT #1 House of Adhika Maxi

CONTENTS

PROJECT #1 house of adhika maxi Adhika Maxi Grew up in Indonesia where he developed a passion for food and cooking at the age of fifteen watching his grandmother prepare family meals. In 2007, Max attended the French Culinary Institute in New York City. Upon graduation he worked at Restaurant Asiate, Mandarin Oriental, under Chef Nori Sugie. There he learned modern Japanese cuisine prepared using classic French techniques. Later, he worked at Gordon Ramsay’s eclectic American cuisine restaurant, Maze, under Chef Andy Cook.

In this project, the main goal is to build a house design for a chef, Adhika Maxi. The idea in the first place is to create a model which represent the feeling of the space inside that will be use for the house. Therefore two adjectives were used as the concept, cool and soft. The concept then were represented in model. Soft fabrics and and round shapes were used to create both cool and soft effect. The final statement used for the house design were the shadows made below the conceptual model. Therefore in the final design, light and shadows were the main characters.

PROJECT #2 exhibition space

The main goal of this project is to create exhibition space. In this project, I used the space as the exhibition itself regardless of the program inside. To build a contextual space, certain images and photos of the site (kota tua) were used to create the concept of the building. Two keywords were used as the concept, two faces of Jakarta Kota, hot and cold.

FINAL PROJECT open-spaces

IMPROVEMENT CRITERIA OF OPEN SPACE QUALITY IN JAKARTA IN ACCORDANCE TO TYPOLOGY STUDIES (Case Study: Plazas in Jakarta Kota District)

Public space, is a destination; purpose-build stage for ritual and interaction (Kostof, 1992:123). Public open spaces are divided into three kinds: roads, parks, and plazas. Plazas are public open spaces with a diverse geometrical typology. Paul Zucker classifies plazas into three types: linear, square, and amorphous (Zucker, 1959). The typology of plazas affects the human interactions. Typology of plaza in Jakarta has formed in accordance with the development of the city. Based on the survey conducted, Jakarta Kota District is the most influential district in the history of Jakarta. But now this area is not functioning properly, for the quality of the space can no longer provide the users, yielding some unsuccessful areas. Therefore, the author conducted a study regarding the criteria necessary to improve the quality of public space, focusing on certain types of plazas in Jakarta Kota District. The research began with literature study on the development and typology of plazas formed in Jakarta Kota district. Successful precedents of plazas and criteria of plazas by Clare Cooper Marcus and William Whyte are used as the ground of this research. Qualitative methods were used by observation of the plazas, enhanced with questionnaires. The data obtained were analysed based on literature studies and precedents. The results of this study stated that the criteria for improving the quality of public space in Jakarta Kota vary according to each typology. This variation occurs because of the difference in physical aspects from the place and sociological aspects as respond from the users.
