El Señor García como buen husmeador de mercadillos, rastros y chamarilerías, comienza este proyecto hojeando viejas revistas de los años 50 y 60. En ellas el enigmático collagista elige y recorta imágenes, textos y texturas que le llaman la atención o que selecciona puramente al azar. García convierte el viejo arte del collage en un juego de construcciones, y juntando las piezas en diferentes combinaciones conforma un puzzle en el que a base de tijeras y pegamento comienzan a asomar recuerdos, olores, tactos y sonidos de su propia infancia. Al observar estas imágenes podemos recrear la vida del pequeño García: su hogar, su familia, las vacaciones, los juegos, la religión, la tele, los miedos, la música y quizá algún primer amor.
Mr Garcia, a real junk hunter, combs markets, flea markets, and second hand dealers. He starts this project leafing through magazines of the 50s and 60s. From those magazines the enigmatic collage artist selects and cuts images, textures, and texts because they draw his attention or just because they are there. Garcia converts the old art of collage making into a sport. To him it’s a building game based on scissors and glue. He joins pieces in a variety of ways and makes visual jigsaws that reveal his childhood memories; its smells, textures and sounds. Observing the images we can reconstruct young Garcia’s life: his home, family, holidays, games, religion, TV, fears, music and perhaps even a first love.
Gracias al uso de texturas y materiales en la composición de las imágenes, este autoretrato resulta aún más evocador y envía al lector a un mundo que huele a moqueta, hule y escay, y como retrato generacional, consigue transportarle también a su propia infancia.
The use of textures and material in the composition of these images, makes this self-portrait even more evocative. It transports the viewer to a world smelling of moldy carpets, oilcloth and patent leather. As a generational portrait it could take one back to one’s own childhood.
