Creating a place for gathering and celebration
The courtyard is divided into a series of spaces by an elevated walkway in the middle running north to south. The spaces include an outdoor amphitheater, cafe seating and wildscape. The design provides accessible pathways between the dormitories for students and their guests. The planting design inspiration contrasts the traditional lawn with a display of native species.
AUSTIN STATE HOSPITAL
AUSTIN, TEXAS
Embracing the historic
and promote reflection
Austin State Hospital was founded in 1861 and is the oldest psychiatric facility in the state of Texas. Throughout history, the hospital has been coined “our little town” illustration a connection between the patients, staff, who often lived on the grounds, and neighbors in Hyde Park. This proposal embraces this historical connection by maximizing pedesitran access and connectivity and increasing the landscape program on the 80-acre campus.

EQUITY HEALTH REACTIVATION CONNECTION
THE SQUISH IS POLLUTED
Southeast of the protected Guild’s Lake Industrial Sanctuary is the intersection of US-30 and Interstate 405 that serves as a seismic lifeline and statewide freight infrastructure node within Portland. However, this intersection exists 60-100 feet above ground level and exceeds over 70 decibels where the highway interchanges are stacked. Underneath this highway network is an area of interior design retailers and light industrial warehouses that is being pressured my high-end development to the east and south.
The purpose of this proposal is to stitch three independent districts with a fabric that binds and rejuvenates the area through a series of environmental health interventions that manage stormwater, air and noise pollution and create a new place of urban culture.

Connecting visitors to the water’s edge
As the visitor approaches the site and descends the stairs, they are greeted with growing frames of the lake. The bottom platform offers an unobstructed view of the lake and offers an interactive experience with the water.
Examining Light and Temporality through Modeling
Considering capacity on lower deckImagining a beloved dragonfly hairpin coming to life
The cyborg creation was inspired by the movie, Coraline, where a young girl, often depicted with a dragonfly hair clip, discovers an “Other World” that is bizarre yet wonderful. It is imagined that perhaps the opposite - a dragonfly hair clip cyborg could exist in this world. This iteration of the cyborg utilizes the hinging of the clip for additional storage, hidden wings and balance while obelisking at the top of a plant.
Hidden wings pivot up to open and fold out from behind clip.
