Levi strauss final

Page 1

As the typical “coming to America” story goes, Levi Strauss started his journey in Bavaria, Germany. At the young age of eighteen, he and his family moved to San Francisco, California. During this time, the California Gold Rush was at its peak, which created much opportunity for Levi. It all started with his brothers dry goods wholesale business. Levi then moved west to open his own dry goods and clothing company, Levi Strauss & Co. Selling clothing, bedding, combs, purses, handkerchiefs and more. Levi never wanted to be called “Mr. Strauss” he wanted his coworkers, customers and friends to call him Levi. Levi was known for never selling a pair of jeans that were not up to par and his prices were always fair. During his life, Levi donated much of his well-earned money to Jewish and special orphanage communities, he also helped establish the first Jewish synagogue in San Francisco. Levi Strauss will live on as an honest, fair, friendly and generous man.
