The return of Condoman would not have been possible without funding and commitment from the Australian Government and Queensland Health. It has been a privilege to work closely with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership teams at the Queensland Association for Healthy Communities and the Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council to complete the return of Australia’s best-known Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander animated character. This means if we continue to have
Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)
are a real health concern for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
This is very true for those younger people between the ages of 16 – 30 years old.
unsafe sex or sex without condoms then we can pass this infection on
to someone else or be infected with another type of STI. The danger of
having one or more STIs at the same time is that it greatly increases our chances of getting HIV.
If we are sexually active and have sex without condoms we place ourselves at a higher risk of being infected with a STI. If you have sex with more than one person, it is most likely you won’t know if they are having sex
with someone else, this means that they could have an STI. STIs don’t always show any signs or symptoms which means they can be easily spread to others if they don’t use a condom.
If left unchecked or untreated STIs can cause serious problems for men
and women such as being unable to have babies later on in life. This is why we should have regular health check-ups that include tests for STIs.
There is no need to feel ‘shame’, be game when going
to the doctor or Medical Service and ask for a sexual health check up. All you need to do is give a urine
(pee) and blood sample and you can be checked for all STIs and HIV. It only takes about a week for
the results to come back. These services are private
and condential and no one apart from the Doctor or Nurse will know your results.
