Chlamydia facts ● Chlamydia is the most common sexually transmissible infection (STI) and is transmitted through unprotected sex ● The people most commonly affected by this STI are 15 to 24 year olds ● Chlamydia is known as a ‘silent disease’ because it often has no symptoms ● If left untreated, chlamydia can cause serious complications such as infertility ● Anyone who engages in unprotected vaginal, oral or anal sex may be at risk of chlamydia infection ● Symptoms of chlamydia may include pain on urination, an unusual discharge and lower abdominal pain ● The only way to find out if you have chlamydia is to visit your doctor or sexual health clinic and ask for a simple chlamydia ‘wee’ test ● In most cases, chlamydia can be easily cured with a single course of antibiotics ● Using condoms is the best way for sexually active people to prevent getting and passing on chlamydia
