The VSM Safe Place provides safety, support and assistance to young people and their families who use or are affected in some way by volatile substance misuse. We aim to do this through: Individual Support – personal, emotional, cultural, social, educational and recreational. Holistic Health Support and Referral including drug and alcohol awareness and counselling for stolen generation and cultural issues. Outreach/Diversionary Activities including footy/touch, bush tucker, recreational activities and cultural tours including local cave art. Transport and Supervision for young people to access activities in the community. Educational/Motivational Programs - VSM Youth Education workshops, “Barriers” goal-setting workshops, “On the Ground” training workshops for industry workers and “Yarning Circles” - a verbal learning circle designed to assist people in sharing their voice and experiences. Rest and Recovery - 72 hour placement for young people under the influence, where personal safety, hygiene and nutrition are addressed. Health assessments and referrals are made and case management is undertaken where required. Resources/Information - providing resources and information around youth substance misuse.
