Introduction

3

Calibre is e-book library manger application that is open source and free to everyone. A user would use this program to store their books so they can read them where ever they go. The program allows the user to transform PDF’s into an e-book so they can view on any device.

Problem Calibre has too many features that are repetitive and useless. The users that use the program get over whelmed with how many options they have to choose from and most of the time would not know what to choose.

Solution Redesigning Calibre’s interface to make it more user friendly. Recreating Calibre just in a more simple way. So that the user is not over whelmed with all the options they have.

Research The first thing that was done with the redesign was mapping out all of the buttons on the current version of Calibre. To the left is a site map of Calibre.

Wire-frame Sketches Next part of the project was to think of ideas to make Calibre more user friendly. To the left is the installation screens that will pop up when the user installs Calibre. Then the next two pages is sketched screens for the main part of Calibre. The main screen contains the basic buttons for calibre. Taking out all of the redundant stuff. Added a filter bar to filter the books by certain categories.

Low- Fidelity Wire frames Main Screen- This is the home screen that the user will come to when they open up the Calibre. The main screen contains their library. They can use the top to add a new book, delete books, edit the meta-data, search for a certain book, shop Online for books, and get help with the program if they need it. Also just below all of that they can put the books in alphabetical order by the titles, author, or genre. Preview Screen- This screen is used a couple of different times for different things. On the Library screen you click on a book this screen will pop up. Another time this screen will pop up is when after downloading a book onto Calibre from the users computer. Also after saving a books information this screen pops up. I gave the user at the bottom an option to read the book. The other thing is the option to go back to the main screen at the top right hand conner. Edit Meta-media Screen- Once the user clicks on a book that they select from their library they can click the edit button on the top of the page. They will be directed to this screen. This is where the user can edit the book cover, change any of the books information and edit about the book. Once the user edits the book they can preview what it will look like at

Part: 2 Visualization & Conceptualization the bottom of the screen. Also I added save and a cancel button Add Book Screen- This is the screen that pops up when the user wants to add a book to their library. They have two options they can take a book off their computer that they downloaded on there or they can find a book Online and put it on Calibre that way. Search Online Screen - This would be what the Online search page would look like. The user would type in the book that they are looking for and select the book so they can download it onto Calibre.

Conclusion Taking out all of the redundant options in the redesign of calibre. Only keeping the buttons that were necessarily for the application. Making the new version of calibre nice and simple for the user. Adding an add, remove, edit, and help buttons. Also adding a search bar to search for a certain book. Adding a filter drop down button so the user can search for a certain book by author, title, or genre. When searching for a book if the user clicks on the book they are able to preview it at the bottom of the screen.
