Come and join the fun: Emma’s Friendship Quilt Circle A Friendship Quilt is a creative way to make memories with friends and family that combines a variety of quilt patches that each of us
contributes into a keepsake we can give to Emma as a pre-wedding gift.
It will keep her warm on cold nights and remind her of the fun and love that went into making it.
“Like the patches on a friendship quilt, each is unique and loved.”

Instructions: (no sewing experience required!) 1. Find a piece of material that has sentimental value, it must be larger than 12”x12”. The main colours for the quilt will be purples and creams, but really do bring along anything anything you feel that represents you and we will find a way to fit it in! 2. There are several dates to choose from where we can come together to spend time with Emma in the run up to her wedding and prepare the quilt. Select a date(s) that you can attend and RSVP Emma on 07708944222. Each time we meet up we will guide you through preparing and personalising your quilt patch and sewing it into the quilt.
The main goal is to get together, have fun, and celebrate together as Emma prepares for a life of married bliss!

Part 1: Make the Blocks In Part 1, we will make sixteen Indian Star blocks. Each will measure 12-1/2" x 12-1/2" unfinished. When the blocks are sewn into the quilt, they will measure 12" x 12". Step 1: Sew a Dark 3-7/8" triangle to a short side of a Light 7-1/4" triangle as shown below. Press the seam allowances toward the Dark fabric and trim point. Repeat on the opposite side to finish the unit. Press the seam allowance toward the Dark fabric and trim point. Make 64. (This unit should measure 3-1/2" x 6-1/2".)
Step 2: Arrange two Medium 3-1/2” squares and two Light 3-1/2” squares as shown below. Sew into rows and press the seam allowances toward the medium fabric. Next, sew the rows together to finish the four-patch unit. Press the seam allowance to one side. Make 16. This unit should measure (6-1/2” x 6-1/2”.)
Step 3: Arrange four Step 1 units, one Step 2 unit, two medium 3-1/2” squares, and two light 3-1/2” squares as shown below. Sew into rows and press the seam allowances away from the Step 1 units. Next, sew the rows together to finish the block. Press the seam allowance toward the centerrow. Make 16. Your block will measure 12-1/2” at this point. It will measure 12” when it is sewn into the quilt.
Step 4: Using the diagram below as your guide, sew the blocks into four rows with each row having four blocks. Press the seam allowances to the left for rows 1 and 3 and to the right for rows 2 and 4. Next, sew the rows together and press the seam allowances in one direction.
Your quilt is now ready for borders!
Part 2: Borders In Part 2, we will piece the borders and sew them to the quilt. Step 5: Sew a Dark 5-1/2” x 40-1/2” strip and a Dark 5-1/2” x 8-1/2” strip together as shown below. Press the seam allowance to one side. Repeat once more for a total of TWO 5-1/2” x 48-1/2” strips. Next, sew a Dark 5-1/2” x 40-1/2” strip and a Dark 5-1/2” x 18-1/2” together as shown below. Press the seam allowance to one side. Repeat once more for a total of TWO 5-1/2”x 58-1/2” strips.
Step 6: Sew the Dark 5-1/2” x 48-1/2” borders to the left and right sides of the quilt as shown below. Press the seam allowance toward the borders.
Step 7: Sew the Dark 5-1/2” x 58-1/2” borders to the top and bottom of the quilt as shown below. Press the seam allowance toward the borders.
Your quilt top is now officially put together! To finish the quilt, you will need to layer the quilt top, batting, and backing fabric and baste for the quilting method you prefer. Bind the quilt with the Dark 2-1/2” fabric strips that were included in the cutting instructions.
Congratulations to you Emma! I hope this has been a fun experience that has created some happy memories and a great quilt that will keep you warm for years to come.
