DO YOU WANT TO WORK?
Do you know that when refugees submit an asylum application, they don’t have the right to work during the first 6 months of the asylum procedure? After that period they are permitted to work for only 24 of every 52 weeks, as long as their application is still being processed. Also, their (future) employer must then have a work permit (TWV). But unfortunately, this is far away from reality. Some refugees arrive here without any documents, and even when they have it, it doesn’t mean that they’re going to get their asylum. Imagine getting a job.
When you are asked these questions
“Do you want to have a job?” “Do you want to contribute to society?” of course you are going to answer yes and choose the green stickers, because employment and being part of the community you live in is an important factor in everyone’s life, including the refugees’s. With this experiment we want you to realize that refugees have the same needs for surviving, as everyone else. They fled a war zone, sometimes left their families. They don’t want to steal your job, they just want to begin a normal life in a safe place, and to achieve this they need an income. We want to create awareness and engagement towards this situation. If you were in their shoes, wouldn’t you want this too?
