Su apoyo nos hace cada día mejores y aumenta nuestro compromiso con su satisfacción. Quiero decirle que nos orientamos a hacer bien las cosas, con voluntad y amor.

Tenemos un largo camino avanzado de manera conjunta y quiero agradecerle por eso. Nuestras operaciones en los países donde actuamos se han fortalecido, generando una alternativa de conexión aérea en la región. Parte de este desarrollo no hubiera sido posible sin el aporte de todos nuestros trabajadores y de usted como pasajero. Juntos conformamos esta gran familia.

Este año lo esperamos con muchos planes, proyectos y ante todo esperanza de que todas nuestras metas se cumplan.

En Bolivia seguiremos incrementando nuestras frecuencias para que el pasajero siga encontrando la mejor forma de viajar. CONCURSO DE AMBIENTES NAVIDEÑOS

A fin de que el espíritu navideño llegue a todos los rincones de Amaszonas, se lanzó un concurso interno destinado a todas las estaciones y oficinas en Bolivia. El objetivo también fue reflejar la integración y equipo de trabajo de esta gran familia. Así los trabajadores hicieron volar su imaginación y su talento y la mayoría de los concursantes utilizaron material reciclado para la decoración. Al final, los resultados fueron sorprendentes y los ganadores de La Paz, Cochabamba, Santa Cruz, Sucre, Uyuni y Rurrenabaque, celebraron las fiestas con una cena de confraternización, en sus respectivas ciudades y poblaciones.

La belleza de los Andes The beauty of the Andes

El Parque Nacional Sajama, situado al noroeste del departamento de Oruro (Bolivia) en plena cordillera de los Andes, es uno de los destinos turísticos más importantes del país, por sus impresionates volcanes, bosques de queñua (los árboles que habitan la gélida cordillera de los ándes), géisers y toda su riqueza natural, propia de los sistemas andinos.

Uno de sus atractivo es, sin duda, el nevado Sajama, el volcán inactivo que está ubicado a 6.542 m.s.n.m.; una de las rutas más codiciadas por los andinistas del mundo. Pero en este lugar de belleza impresionante también se encuentra el nevado Parinacota a 6.032 m.s.n.m. y la Laguna Huaña Khota, paisajes que forman parte de esta postal.

The Sajama National Park, located in the northeast of the department of Oruro in Bolivia, and within the Andes Mountain range, is one of the country’s most important tourism destinations because of its impressive volcanoes, queñua forests (the trees that inhabit the frigid mountain range), geysers and all the natural richness found in the Andes.

Without a doubt, one of the attractions is the snowcapped Sajama, an inactive volcano that is located at 6,542 meters above sea level, and is known by climbers throughout the world. The impressive beauty extends to the snowcapped Parinacota at 6,032 meters above sea level and the Huaña Khota Lake, landscapes that form part of this postcard.

Yacuiba tiene el encanto del paisaje agreste del campo, pero sorprende con una infraestructura urbana que genera envidia en ciudades más grandes del país. Zona productora de gas, esos recursos han servido para embellecer este rincón fronterizo mediante plazas, monumentos y paseos que invitan a caminar a pesar del calor de la región. Y es que la sombra de los árboles o la frescura de las fuentes de agua de sus plazas aplacan al sol chaqueño, además de refrescar la vista.

En primer lugar, no pasará desapercibida su plaza principal 12 de Agosto, reinaugurada en 2013 convertida en un vergel, monumentos y una majestuosa fuente de aguas danzantes.

Yacuiba has the charm of a rough, countryside landscape, but it surprises with its urban infrastructure that is envied by the largest cities of the country. This is a gas-producing region and those resources have served to beautify this corner frontier region by building plazas, monuments and paths that call on you to walk despite the great heat.

The trees provide shade and the water fountains in the plazas give off freshness helping to placate the sun of this Chaco region, and refresh the view.

The first place which cannot be missed is the main plaza, the 12 de Agosto, that was re-inaugurated in 2013, turning it into gardens, monuments and a majestic fountain of dancing colored water.

La actividad petrolera impulsa el desarrollo de esta ciudad fronteriza, hasta donde llega Amaszonas seis días a la semana. La Plaza 12 de Agosto (der.) y la del Estudiante (Abajo) son buenos ejemplos del cuidado de los espacios públicos.

parque recuerda a los Héroes del Chaco, la contienda bélica con Paraguay que se llevó a cabo en esa zona. En la misma infraestructura hay una estatua del Libertador Simón Bolívar.

Esparcidos por la plaza hay otros monumentos pequeños de símbolos chaqueños como el ‘tatú’, animal típico de la zona o un mate con su bombilla, bebida muy difundida entre los yacuibeños.

Durante muchos años la principal vía de transporte era el tren. Por eso, la Plaza Estación Ferroviaria es otro de los atractivos yacuibeños.

Destaca el verde de sus jardines tanto como la infraestructura de la terminal de trenes que fue inaugurada en 1942. Allí se encuentra en exhibición, justamente, la primera locomotora que transitó esas rieles hasta Santa Cruz de la Sierra, ida y vuelta.

De camino a la frontera con Argentina está la Plaza Magariños, sitio fundacional de Yacuiba en 1841. Un mural recuerda este episodio y también presume de coloridos jardines naturales.

Yacuiba es básicamente un destino comercial, pero no por ello descuida ofrecer al visitante opciones turísticas. Cuenta con una recomendable infraestructura hotelera y una sorprendente oferta gastronómica, destacándose la carne vacuna y el pescado, producidos en la zona.

También se han habilitado circuitos ecoturísticos para dar a conocer la belleza de la zona, que incluyen balnearios, haciendas ganaderas reacondicionadas para esos fines y miradores naturales, aprovechando la pintoresca orografía local. Es el caso de ‘Timboy Tiguasú’, Paraíso Rural, un emprendimiento ecoturístico municipal que promueve el turismo de aventura y rural, ubicado en la serranía del Aguaragüe.

Por el motivo que fuera, Yacuiba te invita a visitarla y disfrutar de sus encantos.

Given the closeness to Argentina, Yacuiba is basically a commercial destination, but it still has tourist attractions to offer. It has a recommended hotel infrastructure, and a surprising culinary offering most known for the great beef and fish, which are widely produced in the region.

There are also ecotourism circuits which allow you to get to know the beauty of the area, including resorts, cattle ranches that have been refurbished for these ends and natural look out points, that take advantage of the picturesque local terrain. Es uno de los destinos más recomendados por su amplia y cómoda infraestructura turística, que acompaña de manera armoniosa su belleza natural.

It is one of the most recommended destinations for its wide and comfortable tourist infrastructure, which harmoniously accompanies its natural beauty.

Y pensar que inicialmente se llamaba El Destierro. Después cambió su nombre por algo más evocador al paraíso que en realidad es: Florianópolis. Y aunque parezca un homenaje a la flora local, en realidad se llama así en honor a Floriano Peixoto, segundo presidente de la República Federativa de Brasil.

Florianópolis es la capital del estado de Santa Catarina y uno de los destinos de esta temporada más fascinantes dentro de la amplia oferta turística del país de la samba.

Para darse una idea, el paradisiaco mar azul que baña sus costas está custodiado por 24 playas, todas aptas para el turismo, incluyendo un centro de actividades náuticas.

Cualquier visitante que haya estado en este edén catarinense contará lo mismo, que ni bien llegó al hotel se alistó para ir a la playa, a cualquiera, a la que esté más cerca. Sin embargo, hay algunas que destacan por la infraestructura y la movida que se genera a su alrededor. Florianópolis es una isla, aunque unida mediante un puente al territorio continental.

Originally it was called, the Exile. Later, it changed its name to something that evoked the paradise that it really is: Florianopolis. And although that name seems to pay homage to the local flora, in reality the name was made to honor Floriano Peixoto, the second President of the Republic of Brazil.

Florianopolis is the capital of the State of Santa Catarina and one of this season’s most fascinating tourist destinations among the many that are found in Brazil. To give you an idea a paradise-blue sea covers her coasts with more then 24 beaches, all ready for tourism, including a center of nautical activities.

Any visitor who has been to this Eden recounts the same things, that as soon as arriving to the hotel you get ready to go to the beach, which ever beach is the closest. Nonetheless, there are a few beaches that are well known for their infrastructure and the activities found around them. Florianopolis is an island, reached by a bridge connecting it with the continental territory.

Dependiendo de los intereses del turista, en el Norte, por ejemplo, se encuentra toda la movida de bares, discotecas, hoteles, restaurantes, en fin, el sitio ideal para festejar las vacaciones. Allí destaca la playa de Canasvieiras, de vida agitada con muchas actividades para disfrutar de noche y de día. Ponta das Canas, Ponta Grossa, Cachoeira de Bom Jesús, Ingleses, Jureré, Santinho, Praia do Forte, Daniela y Brava, son otras opciones en esa zona norte. Esta última es la preferida por los amantes del surf.

the interests of each tourist. In the north, for example, there is much activity around bars, discos, hotels, and restaurants making it an ideal area for celebrating vacations. In that area is the Canasvieiras beach, full of much activity to enjoy day and night. Ponta das Canas, Ponta Grossa, Cachoeira de Bom Jesús, Ingleses, Jureré, Santinho, Praia do Forte, Daniela and Brava are other options in this northern area. The last is the preferred spot for surf enthusiasts.

Para los que buscan mayor tranquilidad y relax, el oeste es lo ideal. San Antonio de Lisboa, Sambaqui y Cacupé son los principales sitios de aguas mansas y menos movida fiestera.

En cambio, los amantes del surf y de las aguas bravas prefieren el este de la isla. Mole, Galheta y Joaquina son los referentes para la aventura de los deportes extremos.

Y finalmente está la zona Sur, que todavía mantiene su carácter agreste lejos de la masividad de la industria turística. No obstante, allí se destaca Campeche, que según el mito urbano, fue visitada por Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, el aviador francés autor de El Principito, que además le habría puesto el nombre de “Champ et Peche” (campo y pesca). Por eso la principal avenida de Campeche se llama ‘Pequeño Príncipe’. No hay duda que la fantasía está presente en Florianópolis incluso en su historia.

For those who seek a more relaxation and calmness, the West is ideal. San Antonio de Lisboa, Sambaqui and Cacupé are places with calmer waters and less of a party atmosphere.

For those who love to surf and prefer rougher waters, the East of the island is best. Mole, Galheta, and Joaquina are the reference points for the adventure of extreme sports.

Finally, there is the South, which has kept it rough character far different from the massive tourism industry. Still, there is the Campeche, which according to local legend, was visited by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the French aviator and author of The Little Prince, who also gave it the name “Champ et Peche” (field and fishing). That is why the main avenue of Campeche is called “Pequeño Príncipe.” There is no doubt that fantasy is present in Florianopolis, even in its history.

A Tarija se la conoce como la Andalucía boliviana por su parecido con pueblos del Sur de España y porque aun conserva la herencia de la época de la Colonia. Eso se hace evidente al caminar por sus calles y conocer varias de sus poblaciones aledañas.

Quien la visita coincide en que se trata de un hermoso jardín, beneficiado por un agradable clima templado. En este valle subtropical, ubicado entre los 1.200 a 2.000 m.s.n.m., se producen los mejores vinos y singanis del país, que después de la industria del gas, es la que más beneficios genera para la región.

Tarija is called the Bolivian Andalucía because of its similar appearance to towns of Southern Spain and because it conserves its Colonial legacy. This is evident while walking the streets and getting to know the different towns of the area.

All who visit agree that the city is a beautiful garden, which benefits from its temperate climate. In this subtropical valley, located between 1,200 and 2,000 meters above sea level, the best wines and singanies of the country are produced, which after the gas industry, is the industry that most benefits the region. En la ciudad no puedes dejar de visitar la Plaza de Armas Luis de Fuentes y Vargas, la Casa Dorada, una hermosa residencia centenaria donde hoy funciona la Casa de la Cultura; el Museo Paleontológico, donde se exponen 5.000 piezas entre fósiles y objetos arqueológicos hallados en la cuenca de Tarija; el Museo Franciscano que guarda la historia de este departamento y de la orden religiosa, en manuscritos, libros, artesanías y pinturas de hace cuatro siglos. Desde el Mirador de los Sueños, con la forma de una copa de vino, se puede tener una vista panorámica de la ciudad. found here, in the south of the country.

Chronic travel / CRÓNICA DE VIAJE El castillo azul es uno de los patrimonios arquitectónicos de Tarija sobre el cual se tejen leyendas del pueblo. A pesar de que es propiedad privada, tiene algunos días que se abre para grupos de turistas. Aún conserva intacta su arquitectura y el mobiliario del siglo XIX. The blue castle is one of the architectural patrimonies of Tarija on which the legends of the town are built.

Although it is privately owned, on some days it is opened to groups of tourists. The 19th Century architecture and furnishings are kept in tact.

EN LAS AFUERAS Un paseo obligado en Tarija es recorrer la Ruta del Vino y el Singani. En la ciudad existen varias operadoras que te llevan a las principales bodegas industriales (Casa Real, Casa Grande, Kohlberg, Campos de Solana, Las Duelas) y destinos turísticos como el Valle de la Concepción, el Cañón de la Angostura, el Valle D’Vino y Casa Vieja, una pequeña bodega artesanal famosa por sus vinos jóvenes y frescos. Los viñedos tarijeños, por estar ubicados entre los 1.800 a 2.000 m.s.n.m., son considerados los más altos del mundo.

Otro destino que debes visitar en la campiña chapaca es el pintoresco pueblo de San Lorenzo, ubicado a 16 kilómetros de la capital. Allí se encuentra la Casa Museo de “Moto Mendez”, héroe de la independencia de Tarija. No te puedes ir de este lugar sin degustar sus tradicionales rosquetes, empanadas blanqueadas, y las deliciosas hojarascas.

In the city you will find several operators who will take you to the principle, industrial producers (Casa Real, Casa Grande, Kohlberg, Campos de Solana, Las Duelas) and tourist destinations such as el Valle de la Concepción, el Cañón de la Angostura, el Valle D’Vino and Casa Vieja, a small artisanal winery famous for its young and fresh wines. The vineyards of Tarija, because they are located between 1,800 and 2,000 meters above sea level, are considered the highest in the world.

Al retorno puedes hacer una parada en Tomatitas, un pequeño poblado conocido por su gastronomía típica, donde se destacan los cangrejitos de río, que junto a sus famosas humintas de maíz, son las delicias del lugar. Hay muchas reliquias, pero llama la atención el altar que perteneció a la Iglesia de Guarayos del Siglo XIX. Se lucen varios fragmentos de elementos ornamentales, procedentes de Concepción y San Javier, así como partes de barandas, horcones e imágenes de distintos santos.

Entre otras piezas del siglo XVIII, destacan los tallados decorativos de retablos y un púlpito restaurado del taller de Martín Schmid, de 1760, y un sagrario grande reconstruido. En las vitrinas se pueden ver muestras de las partituras del archivo musical de San Rafael tal cual las encontró Hans Roth en 1972. A este arquitecto suizo, el Museo le dedica una de sus salas.

Los objetos que se exponen en este museo han sido testigos del paso de los siglos y producto del trabajo de evangelización de la Compañía de Jesús en Bolivia.

While there are many rooms that display photos of the restoration process of Concepcion and other churches in the circuit, the main and largest room in the house, displays the large collection of objects that pertained to the ancient temples, which today have been remodeled and are still standing.

There are many items, but one that most calls your attention is the alter that pertained to the Church of Guarayos from the 19th Century. There are many fragments of decorative elements that came from Concepcion and San Javier, there are also parts of handrails, supports and images of different saints.

Among the other pieces of the 18th Century, a highlight are the carved, decorative alter and a pulpit that has been restored but which dates from the work of Martin Schmid in 1760.

Behind glass, you can see many of the musical scores found in San Rafael in the same condition in which they were found by Hans Roth in 1972. The Museum has dedicated on of its rooms to Roth, a swiss architect.

El 80% del agua que tenemos en las ciudades viene de los bosques tropicales. Estos nos proveen el líquido vital a través de un proceso de evapotranspiración. Por eso es importante la conservación de las selvas.

“En las ciudades, los que tenemos la comodidad de llegar a casa y abrir el grifo o la ducha, debemos cambiar de actitud, estamos a tiempo”, manifestó el ambientalista.

Después de haber trabajado por más de cuatro años continuos en América del Sur, Amaszonas decidió apostar por “más zonas”. Es así que, en un nuevo reto empresarial emprendió la conquista a uno de los mercados más codiciados e importantes del planeta - el norteamericano -.

Las relaciones aerocomerciales entre los Estados Unidos de Norteamérica y el Estado Plurinacional de Bolivia se remontan a la firma del “Convenio de Transporte Aéreo”, acuerdo bilateral firmado por los entonces cancilleres de ambos estados el 29 de septiembre de 1948.

Lo curioso de esta relación, trasluce que sin importar su antigüedad existe una estabilidad de reglas que a través del tiempo demostraron que la relación comercial del estado boliviano con el norteamericano - en esta materia - no ha cambiado mucho, tal vez solo los actores de uno y otro lado, recordar a la vieja Panagra, Eastern,

American Airlines como grandes operadores estadounidenses y del otro lado el Lloyd Aéreo Boliviano (LAB), Aerosur y Boliviana de Aviación (BOA) como representantes bolivianos.

Los puntos de interés para uno y otro lado se resumen en La Paz, Oruro, Cochabamba, Sucre, Santa Cruz, Robore, Puerto Suarez y más allá para los Estados Unidos y para Bolivia: Miami, Washington y más allá.

El reto de Amaszonas fue, es y será ser parte de esta rica historia y como objetivo central explotar los derechos de tráfico concedidos entre ambos estados. La travesía comenzó el año 2014 cuando se presentó la propuesta de llegar desde Bolivia a los Estados Unidos de Norteamérica a través de una operación aerocomercial no regular, proyecto que se detalló al Departamento de Transporte de los EEUU (DOT) por sus siglas en inglés. Aprobada la solicitud por esta instancia se continuó con la Administración Federal de Aviación o Federal Aviation Administration - FAA con quien se afrontó un largo proceso de certificación y homologación del Certificado de Operador Aéreo (COA) de Amaszonas y a quien se le demostró la seguridad de sus operaciones, así como la seguridad de los aeropuertos de partida y de llegada; finalizando el proceso con la presentación a la Administración de Seguridad en el Transporte (Transportation Security Administration – TSA en inglés) que también dio su aprobación.

Así, después de casi dos años de trabajo la Autoridad de Aeronáutica Civil Americana (FAA) en acto especial otorgó las “Especificaciones de Operación” a favor de Amaszonas, por las que le concede el derecho para operar desde Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Bolivia) hacia Miami (EEUU) con escala técnica intermedia en un punto ya sea en Medellín (Colombia) u otro equivalente. Esta autorización que tiene gran versatilidad podría abarcar la posibilidad de iniciar el vuelo en cualquier otro punto con destino a los Estados Unidos de Norteamérica a sola notificación.

Este gran logro para la empresa boliviana da cuenta de su seriedad en el mercado y muestra que a veces se puede dar una vuelta de 180 grados y mirar para el norte.

Notebook / CUADERNO DE NOTAS Un estudio científico de la Empresa Brasileña de Investigación Agropecuaria concluye que consumir cinco almendras diarias previene el Alzheimer. Y es que la especie Bertholletia excelsa, también conocida como nuez de Brasil o castaña, contiene todos los nutrientes esenciales para mantener la salud del cerebro, como son el omega-3, omega-6, fibra, vitamina E, magnesio, potasio, zinc, calcio y grandes concentraciones de selenio.

Contrario a su denominación internacional, las nueces de Brasil crecen también en otros países de la Amazonia como Bolivia, Perú, Colombia y Guyana, siendo nuestro país el mayor productor y exportador de esta semilla, que se da en los árboles más altos de estas selvas.

Solo en 2015 vendió 22 toneladas a mercados de Estados Unidos y Europa, donde se la conoce como el ‘alimento del estudiante’.

Los árboles de la castaña llegan a medir entre 60 y 70 metros de altura y empiezan a producir frutos aproximadamente a los 40 años.

“Nuestros árboles tienen más de 100, incluso 200 años y son silvestres, nadie los ha plantado, por lo tanto la castaña boliviana que llega a los mercados internacionales es orgánica”, explica Agustín Vargas, presidente de la Cámara de Exportadores del Norte de Bolivia.

A scientific study by the Brazilian Agricultural Investigation Company says that eating five nuts a day can prevent Alzheimer’s and that the type called Bartholletia excels, also known as a Brazil nut has all the ingredients needed to maintain brain health; ingredients such as omega – 3, omega -6, fiber, vitamin E, magnesium, potassium, zinc, calcium and a large concentration of selenium.

Zebras win a contest

Las Cebras paceñas se impusieron entre 171 proyectos de 300 ciudades del mundo y ganaron el concurso internacional de Guangzhou (China) para la innovación urbana.

Este programa de educación vial que ya lleva 15 años en la ciudad de La Paz, ganó por su popularidad en las redes sociales, por el alcance y contenido del proyecto y por que puede implementarse en otras ciudades fácilmente.

Las cebritas ya están en El Alto, Tarija y Sucre y urbes de otros países solicitaron asesoramiento a la Alcaldía paceña para replicar el proyecto, informó el alcalde de La Paz, Luis Revilla.

The Zebras of La Paz beat 171 programs from 300 cities of the world to win an international contest in Guangzhou (China) for urban innovation.

This program of traffic education which has been around for 15 years in La Paz, won for its popularity on social media, for its wide reach and for the content of the program which can be easily implemented in other cities. The zebras are in El Alto, Tarija, and Sucre. According to La Paz Mayor, Luis Revilla, other cities in the country have asked for guidance, so that they too can replicate the program.

La raquetbolista cochabambina, Romina Rivero Tórrez, conquistó dos títulos en el torneo Mundial Junior que se desarrolló el pasado noviembre en San Luis Potosí, México. La deportista se erigió como la mejor en singles y dobles, en la categoría 14 años. Valeria Centellas, también oriunda de Cochabamba, fue su cómplice en la cosecha de la presea dorada en el certamen por binomios.

Logró lo más alto del podio tras vencer a representantes de Canadá, República Dominicana, Irlanda, Colombia, EEUU y México. La final fue frente a la mexicana Delia Aguilar.

The racquetball player from Cochabamba, Romina Rivero Torrez, won two titles in the World Juniors competition that took place in November in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. The athlete has built a name as the best singles and doubles player in the 14-year-old category. Valeria Centellas, also of Cochabamba, was her partner in earning the gold prize in the doubles category.

She got to the medal stand after beating representatives from Canada, the Dominican Republic, Ireland, Colombia, the USA, and Mexico.

She played the final against another compatriot.

UN CONTAMINANTE DE MARES Contaminating the seas

Según la ONG Ocean Conservancy, en una jornada de limpieza de playas a escala mundial realizada en 2015, se reunieron 18 millones de toneladas de basura. Entre los objetos más colectados, el pitillo (pajilla, bombilla o popote) ocupó el quinto lugar por debajo de las colillas de cigarro, las botellas plásticas, los empaques de comida y las tapas de botellas. Ante la gravedad del asunto, diversas asociaciones ecologistas llevan adelante la campaña “Sin pitillo, por favor”.

Son tan delgados y bonitos que parecen inofensivos. Suelen durar entre 10 y 20 minutos en la boca, o menos, pero en playas y mares pueden tardar durante milenios en biodegradarse. Por esta razón es que el pitillo está hoy en la mente de los ecologistas, del ciudadano en general y de algunas empresas, como parte de su responsabilidad social.

Se trata de un asunto de supervivencia, de respeto por la fauna; pero también de cultura y de conciencia ecológica. No cuesta nada dejar de ocuparlos.

Among the items most found, from fifth place forward were – straws, cigarette butts, plastic bottles, food packaging, and bottle tops. To respond to the serious situation, associations of ecologists have launched the campaign, “No straw, please.”

They are so thin and beautiful they seem harmless. They usually last between 10 and 20 minutes in the mouth, or less, but can take beaches and seas for millennia to biodegrade.

For this reason it is that the straw is today in the minds of environmentalists, citizens in general and some companies, as part of their social responsibility. It is a matter of survival, respect for wildlife; but also of culture and environmental awareness. It is not difficult to stop using them.

DORMIR SOBRE LIBROS

A muchos les gusta leer antes de dormir. En Tokio se lo tomaron muy en serio y crearon Bed and Book (Libro y Cama), un hotel donde las habitaciones son bibliotecas. Sí, tal como lo lee. No es el primer hotel que combina ambos conceptos, pero los que existían antes en Nueva York o Londres, por ejemplo, disponían de amplios espacios con estantes de libros. Los japoneses fueron un poquito más allá y sus huéspedes, literalmente, duermen entre novelas.

El hotel cuenta con más de 2.000 libros en japonés e inglés y aunque sea algo ‘exotico’ sus precios no lo son. Las habitaciones van entre 34 y 52 dólares aproximadamente.

Otros ejemplos similares son el Hotel Library, de Nueva York (EEUU) o su homónimo de Amsterdam (Holanda), que coincidentemente se ubican cercanos a la Biblioteca Central de sus respectivas ciudades.

EL RESTAURANTE MÁS ECOLÓGICO DEL MUNDO ESTÁ EN EL PAÍS VASCO

La cocina vasca destaca por su saber pero también por su innovación en el servicio. De ahí que el restaurante Arzumendi, ubicado en la comarca bilbaína de Larrabetzu, sea considerado el más ecológico del mundo, debido a su peculiar sistema de funcionamiento.

El chef Eneko Atxa ideó un local donde desde la recolección de agua, la construcción y el uso de energéticos hasta la forma en que se consiguen los alimentos para los platillos sean amigables con el medio ambiente. Por ejemplo, se recicla el agua de lluvia y se utilizan paneles solares para obtener energía. Asimismo, el terreno donde se edificó Arzumendi ha sido reforestado y produce frutos silvestres utilizados en los platos.

J.R.R Tolkien, autor de ‘El Señor de los Anillos’ no dejó nada al azar. Incluso describe la gastronomía de la Tierra Media por regiones. La revista Estel, de la Sociedad Tolkien Española ha recreado varias de las recetas. El blog El Comidista del diario El País se animó con el Guiso de Conejo (foto), plato típico de la comarca de los Hobbits, quienes, según su creador, eran bastante fiesteros y comilones.

Up with Wood

Hace unos años se creía que la madera era demasiado frágil para resistir grandes estructuras. Sin embargo, en Londres, el edificio Stadthaus refuta esa teoría con sus 30 metros de alto y la misma ciudad se alista para tener otro gigante hecho con el mismo material. La Universidad de Cambridge proyecta construir el que sería el rascacielos en madera más alto del mundo: será de 80 pisos y medirá 300 metros.

Para su construcción se utilizará madera de los bosques sostenibles de Gran Bretaña.

Los cockteles con alcohol y sin él, están de moda y no es que sean la novedad, sucede que han renacido y ha llegado el momento de experimentar sabores distintos, frescos y novedosos, sobre todo en esta época de alto verano. Es así que Luis Pinto, uno de los brand ambassador de Opal y experto en la preparación de estas bebidas, nos ha convidado a su barra para probar algunas de las posibilidades de este arte de mezclar bebidas consistentes como el güisqui, ron, vodka, gin, con otros ingredientes.

El resultado ha sido simplemente delicioso. Hemos degustado un Mai Tai, uno de los cockteles tiki más famosos, un Johnnie Ginger, un Cocktail Punch, un Dama Blanca y un Manjar de ciruela (estos últimos de autor).

Ataviado en un traje al estilo de los años 20, el mixólogo procedió a hacer sus mezclas, mientras nos comentaba que el mejor momento para tomar un cocktel es antes de la cena, ya que son aperitivos o después, por que los hay también digestivos. Hay que atreverse a probarlos !Salud!!

Después del agua, ¿cuál es la bebida más consumida en el planeta? La respuesta está en el título de esta nota. No es el café ni siquiera la popular Coca Cola con todo su arsenal publicitario. Es el té. Según las Naciones Unidas para la Agricultura (FAO por sus siglas en inglés), el mundo toma cerca de seis billones de tazas de té al día. Para comprender mejor esta estadística hay que recordar que los principales consumidores de esta bebida son los indios y los chinos; y entre ambos representan más del 20% de la población mundial.

It is tea. According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Office (FAO), the world consumes close to six billion cups of tea a day.

Llega la buena onda de Johnny Rockets The good times are here at Johnny Rockets Johnny Rockets aterriza en Bolivia, primero en el Ventura Mall, de Santa Cruz y luego en Cochabamba y La Paz. Esta historia comienza en 1986.

El californiano Ronn Teitelbaum, decidió abrir un restaurante de comida rápida ambientado en los años 40 de su niñez. Así nació Johnny Rocket´s, que destaca por sus hamburguesas, pero también por el ambiente original en sus locales y la buena onda que generan, por ejemplo, con papas fritas y salsas presentadas de manera divertida.

La cadena internacional llega a Bolivia de la mano de Fraliment S.R.L., una empresa inversionista y administradora de franquicias alimenticias perteneciente al Grupo Empresarial Daher. “En diciembre abrimos la primera sucursal de Johnny Rockets en el Ventura Mall. Es un ambicioso proyecto a cinco años que contempla la apertura de cinco restaurantes, ubicados en el eje troncal del país”, adelantó Pablo Ferrufino, gerente comercial de Fraliment.

Johnny Rockets has landed in Bolivia, first at the Ventura Mall in Santa Cruz, and then in Cochabamba and La Paz. This history began in 1986. The Californian, Ronn Teitelbaum, decided to open a fast food restaurant modeled after the environment of the 1940’s he remembered from his youth. Thus Johnny Rockets was born, which is known for its hamburgers but also for the original environment of the restaurants, and for the good feeling it creates. For example, the French fries and sauces are presented in a fun manner.

The international chain arrived to Bolivia with Fraliment SRL, an investment company and administrator of food franchises that pertains to the Grupo Empresarial Daher. “In December, we opened the first Johnny Rockets located in the Ventura Mall. It is an ambitious five-year project that plans to open five locations throughout the main cities of the country,” said Pablo Ferrufino, the General Manager of Fraliment.

La saludable rúcula Healthy Arugula Que los niños coman verdura es un legendario problema de las madres. Pero si nos sinceramos, los adultos también son reacios a consumirlas.

Y más cuando se trata de verduras poco frecuentes. Pero con la rúcula sucede que cuando se la conoce, se convierte en la principal candidata para suplir a la lechuga.

Una buena hoja de rúcula, por ejemplo, en la hamburguesa, es un delicioso complemento.

Aunque por sí sola, también puede ser la protagonista estrella en una ensalada.

Es mucho menos producida que la lechuga, la espinaca o el brócoli, por eso, probablemente, no sea tan frecuente en la dieta popular. Pero vale la pena incluirla con más frecuencia, pues además de su sabor refrescante goza de unas características muy recomendables para la salud.

Solo por mencionar algunas propiedades, es rica en vitamina A, además de contener una sustancia llamada glucosinato, muy efectiva en la lucha contra determinados tipos de cáncer como el de páncreas, mama, colorrectal y de piel, entre otros.

También contiene las vitaminas K y C. La primera previene enfermedades cardiovasculares y favorece la asimilación del calcio en el cuerpo. En tanto, la C fortalece nuestro sistema inmunitario para evitar resfríos e infecciones.

Asimismo, por su alto contenido en ácido fólico y vitamina B es un poderoso antioxidante.

Eso lo sabían los romanos, que la descubrieron y era parte de su dieta básica pues lo consideraban un efectivo afrodisíaco.

Originalmente se la encuentra de manera silvestre, aunque ya hay productores que la cultivan y se puede encontrar tanto en mercados como supermercados.

En esta época también se encuentran frutos silvestres como el achachairú, pitajaya, ambaiba, acerola y la delicadamente perfumada carambola.

En enero no hay nada más exquisito que comerse los sabrosos duraznos que llegan de Luribay (La Paz) o de San Benito (Cochabamba), regiones famosas por la producción de esta fruta y además con calidad de exportación. Los hay de distintas especies que varían por el tamaño, el color y la consistencia. Algunos son especiales para comerlos frescos, los hay de partir con la mano y otros para preparar compotas.

La especialidad de los valles tarijeños son las uvas, pero esta región también produce higos, ciruelos, granadas y chirimoyas, que se caracterizan por su dulzor y sabor intenso.

Los valles mesotérmicos del departamento de Santa Cruz también tienen duraznos y muchas otras frutas como la sandía que aparece justo en esta época de calor. En esta región son famosas las sandías de Pampagrande, una población que ha sido nombrada como la capital de esta fruta en el departamento. También gozan de gran prestigio las frutillas de Comarapa, grandes y de un sabor inigualable.

Así la naturaleza sabia y prodigiosa nos provee alimentos que son los indicados en la época de verano, todas muy ricas en agua que te ayudan a mantener una correcta hidratación en los meses de calor.

Montevideo esconde el salero Montevideo is hiding the saltshaker La capital uruguaya se quedará sin saleros desde marzo de este año, pero eso no quiere decir que quedará sin sabor. Se trata de una medida tomada por las autoridades de salud para luchar contra la hipertensión arterial, un mal con bastante incidencia en la población charrúa. Para ese fin, un decreto municipal establece que en los restaurantes y negocios de venta de comida está prohibido exhibir en las mesas sal y otros aderezos con alto contenido en sodio.

“La norma entrará en vigencia tras la aprobación de su reglamentación, que no especificará los alimentos prohibidos, sino el grado de sodio permitido, ya que hay sales bajas en sodio, mayonesas y otros aderezos que también estarán dentro de los valores permitidos y podrán seguir estando en las mesas”, explicó a la agencia AFP, Pablo Anzalone, director de Salud de la Intendencia (Alcaldía) de Montevideo.

Cita gourmet en San José Gourmet in San Jose San José de Chiquitos, en Santa Cruz (Bolivia), fue el escenario de un encuentro gastronómico de alto nivel, ‘Posoka Gourmet’. Es así que entre el 18 y 20 de noviembre se realizaron diferentes actividades y exposiciones gastronómicas sobre la temática.

Esta actividad se suma al Festival de la Orquídea en Concepción y al Festival de Música Renacentista y Barroca Americana, que le dan a los pueblos de las Misiones Jesuíticas, un movimiento turístico y cultural sin precedentes.

TODA UNA FIESTA DEPORTIVA EN La competencia Reebok Espartanas 10k reunió a alrededor 1.000 atletas, divididos en grupos de 3, 4 y 5 participantes que no solo debían vencer obstáculos sino practicar el trabajo en equipo.

Cada ‘team’ debía vencer 17 obstáculos además de la arena, la resolana y el agua del predio del condominio Mar Adentro.

Finalmente se impusieron Horse Power (categoría 3), 4 Fantásticos (4) y Pata Pila (5), pero fue una fiesta de compañerismo, amistad y un premio al esfuerzo, que dejó más que satisfechos a los organizadores Lola Group y MO Competencias.
