Querido pasajero de Amaszonas, bienvenido a bordo y bienvenido a septiembre, mes del turismo. La Organización de Naciones Unidas declaró al 27 de este mes como el día mundial dedicado a esta actividad y nuestra aerolínea está dispuesta a celebrarlo con usted. Todos hemos hecho turismo en algún momento y sabemos que el mismo está asociado al descubrimiento de nuevos lugares, al descanso, a compartir y a disfrutar. Hoy el turismo es una de las industrias más importantes del mundo y está asociada a un importante movimiento social, cultural y económico. En Amaszonas ostentamos el título de “Primera Aerolínea Turística” y compartimos con usted la posibilidad de trasladarlo a los sitios más emblemáticos de Sudamérica: las Cataratas de Iguazú en la triple frontera, Cusco y las ruinas de Machu Pichu, el Salar de Uyuni y su magia blanca, Rurrenabaque con el Parque Madidi y las pampas del Yacuma, Montevideo y sus playas, solo para mencionar algunos destinos, porque, por supuesto, todos los países, ciudades y zonas de nuestra región tienen siempre algo para encantarnos y envolvernos en su magia. A propósito de lugares maravillosos, este mes también es muy especial para los departamentos bolivianos de Cochabamba y Santa Cruz; el primero festejará el 14 de septiembre los 206 años de su emancipación de la corona española, mientras que el segundo lo hará el 24. Además, la capital cruceña, Santa Cruz de la Sierra, albergará en esta temporada la feria Expocruz, una de las vitrinas de negocios más importantes de la región. Amaszonas ha desarrollado un importante “puente aéreo” con Santa Cruz de la Sierra, tanto en las conexiones dentro de Bolivia como en las internacionales con la región. Durante este mes seguiremos fortaleciendo esas conexiones con mayores frecuencias y el mejor servicio. AMASZONAS FIRMA ALIANZA CON MUNICIPIO DE REYES

En el marco de los programas de responsabilidad social de Amaszonas, se firmó una alianza con el Gobierno Municipal de Reyes (Beni) para las áreas de salud. El objetivo del convenio es ayudar a personas enfermas de escasos recursos, que por razones de emergencia deben trasladarse a centros de salud con niveles profesionales especializados, una acción que ya se desarrolla en otras ciudades. La alianza fue presentada en el mismo municipio e inmediatamente comenzó a ejecutarse con la asistencia a los primeros enfermos que necesitaban viajar a La Paz para tratamientos médicos.

BRIGADA MÉDICA EN RURRENABAQUE

Amaszonas mantiene acuerdos con otras instituciones para que de manera conjunta las acciones de responsabilidad social beneficien a más personas. Uno de ellos es con la Fundación del Banco Mercantil Santa Cruz, con quien se tiene previsto desarrollar una actividad de asistencia social en Rurrenabaque (Beni), bajo el programa SOS Mano Bolivia, que selecciona niños con problemas en las extremidades superiores. Para ello, una comisión visitó las instalaciones hospitalarias de esta ciudad con la finalidad de establecer las condiciones para las intervenciones quirúrgicas necesarias, que se realizarán de forma gratuita a partir de septiembre. En la alianza también participará el Municipio de Rurrenabaque a través de su área de salud.

Notebook / CUADERNO DE NOTAS El 27 de septiembre, el mundo celebra el Día del Turismo, una maquinaria gigantesca que mueve la economía de países emergentes y en desarrollo.

On September 27th, the world will celebrate Tourism Day, and tourism is a giant machine that moves the economics of emerging and developing countries. ¿Te gusta hacer turismo? Según las Naciones Unidas, esta actividad genera uno de cada 11 puestos de trabajo en el mundo y es un sector fundamental de generación de ingresos en las economías emergentes y en desarrollo. Ante ello, cada vez son más los países que dan un mayor peso a la llamada “industria sin chimeneas” en la planificación de sus políticas económicas y de desarrollo. En nuestra región, las inversiones en el sector turístico demuestran que los atractivos naturales y culturales, además de las ferias y producciones comerciales son de gran interés. A continuación, un vistazo a lo que tenemos en las rutas de Amaszonas, donde la primavera llega con turistas.

Do you like being a tourist? According to the UN, tourism creates one in every 11 jobs in the world and it is a fundamental sector for generating income in emerging and developing economies. Thus, each year more and more countries give more weight to what is called “industries with out smokestacks” when they are planning their economic and development policies. In our region, the investments in the tourism sector demonstrate that natural and cultural attractions, along with fairs and commercial productions, are of great interest. Here, we provide you with an overview of what you will find on the Route of Amaszonas, where spring arrives with tourists.

EN BOLIVIA HAY FIESTA Festivities in Bolivia

El departamento de Santa Cruz, cuya capital es Santa Cruz de la Sierra, conmemora su 206 efeméride revolucionaria este 24 de septiembre. Habrá fiestas no solo en la ciudad, sino también en las provincias, y a ellas se suma Expocruz, una de las ferias multisectoriales más grande de Sudamérica. Quien esté pensando en visitar la urbe cruceña, no puede perderse su majestuosa catedral de estilo ecléctico con elementos barrocos, el monumento Cristo Redentor, los jardines zoológico y botánico, el Biocentro Güembé y el parque ecológico La Rinconada (foto de páginas anteriores), que alberga gigantescas hojas de reina victoria. En las provincias, hay una enorme variedad de atractivos, como Vallegrande, Buena Vista, Aguascalientes y las Misiones Jesuíticas, por ejemplo, declaradas en 1990 Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco. On September 24th, the Department of Santa Cruz, whose capital is Santa Cruz de la Sierra, will commemorate the 206th anniversary of the revolution. There will be festivities in not only the city, but also in the provinces, and additionally there is the Expocruz, one of the largest multi-sector fairs of South America. Whomever visits Santa Cruz, must not miss visiting the majestic cathedral with its eclectic style 12

containing baroque elements, the Christ the Redeemer monument, the zoo and botanical gardens, the Güembé Bio Center, and the ecological park called La Rinconada (photo on previous pages), which houses the giant leaves of the Queen Victoria plant. In the provinces, there is an enormous variety of activities, like Vallegrande, Buena Vista, Aguascalientes, and the Jesuit Missions, for examples, which was declared a World Heritage Site.

Del 16 al 25 de septiembre se realizará Expocruz, la feria internacional de Santa Cruz de la Sierra. From September 16-25 the Expocruz takes place, which is an international fair held in Santa Cruz. 1

Notebook / CUADERNO DE NOTAS COCHABAMBA ES EL CORAZÓN Seguimos en Bolivia, en su corazón: Cochabamba, dominada por el Cristo de la Concordia, la segunda estatua de Jesucristo más grande del mundo. Otros puntos de interés turístico son su catedral, el convento Santa Teresa y el Palacio Portales, edificio construido entre los años 1915 y 1927 para el entonces “barón del estaño”, Simón I. Patiño. Este mes, el departamento homónimo también está de aniversario. Es una excelente ocasión para visitarlo y disfrutar de su gastronomía.

COCHABAMBA IS THE HEART We are still in Bolivia, in her heart: Cochabamba, which is watched over by the Cristo de Concordia, the second tallest statue of Jesus Christ in the world. Other points of interest include the Cathedral, the Santa Teresa convent and the Palacio Portales, a building built from 1915-1927 for the then “tin baron”, Simón I. Patiño. LA MARAVILLOSA LA PAZ Ver La Paz desde la ventanilla de un avión ya es un gran atractivo turístico y más aun si el Illimani está despejado. La “ciudad maravilla”, ubicada a 3.600 m s.n.m., tiene muchísimo para ver y admirar: la catedral, el Palacio de Gobierno, el templo San Francisco, el mercado de las brujas, la calle Jáen con sus 10 museos y casas coloniales, entre otros. Ya un poco más alejado están el Valle de la Luna, el lago Titicaca, las ruinas de Tiahuanaco, Copacabana, los Yungas... ¡Ah! Y en la ciudad no dejes de subirte a alguna de las líneas del teleférico. La experiencia es increíble.

WONDERFUL LA PAZ Seeing La Paz from the window of an airplane is a great touristic attraction, and even more so if the Illimani Mountain is clear of clouds. The “wondrous city” located at 3,600 meters above sea level, offers so much to see and admire: the Cathedral, the Governmental Palace, the San Francisco Church, the witch market, Jáen street with its 10 museums and colonial houses, and more. A little farther away is the Valley of the Moon, Lake Titicaca, the ruins of Tiahuanaco, Copacabana, the Yungas… Ah! And in the city, don’t miss the chance to ride the cable cars. 16

LO NATURAL ES RURRENABAQUE Rurrenabaque es una urbe del departamento de Beni. En 2011, la revista National Geographic la catalogó como uno de los 20 destinos turísticos más importantes del mundo por ser la puerta al Parque Nacional Madidi, donde 3.235 especies conviven en perfecta armonía con el ser humano. Es el área protegida de mayor relevancia ecológica y biogeográfica de Bolivia, y una de las más importantes del planeta por la alta biodiversidad de ecosistemas que presenta. Varias estrellas de la farándula no se han resistido a conocerla, entre ellas Madonna, Harrison Ford y Brad Pitt.

NATURE IN RURRENABAQUE Rurrenabaque is a city in the department of Beni. In 2011, National Geographic Magazine named it one of the 20 most important tourist destinations in the world because it is the entrance to the Madidi National Park, which is where 3,235 species live in perfect harmony with humans. It is the protected area of greatest ecological relevance and biogeography in Bolivia. Several movie stars have come to visit including Madonna, Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt.

UYUNI INDESCRIPTIBLE ¿Cómo se puede describir el Salar de Uyuni? Como un mar de sal, como un lugar donde el cielo se funde con un enorme manto blanco... El sitio es sobrecogedor y absolutamente tranquilo. Sus hoteles de sal le otorgan un plus que el turista no puede resistir.

UNDESCRIBABLE UYUNI How can you describe the Salar de Uyuni (Uyuni Salt Flat)? Like a sea of salt, like a place where the sky melds with an enormous white blanket… the place is enchanting and completely calm. The salt hotels give it a plus that tourists cannot resist.

Notebook / CUADERNO DE NOTAS DINOSAURIOS EN SUCRE Hace poco, un grupo de paleontólogos descubrió cerca de Sucre la huella de un dinosaurio de 1,04 metros de largo y 80 cm de ancho. Ya en esa hermosa ciudad, capital de Bolivia, las pisadas de animales prehistóricos eran un atractivo turístico y a eso hay que sumarle sus casas coloniales, su catedral, la Casa de la Libertad, el convento San Felipe de Neri, el castillo de La Glorieta, el Cementerio General y, un poco alejadas, las poblaciones de Tarabuco y Yotala, cuyos mercados campesinos son un deleite visual en sintonía con la música autóctona.

DINOSAURS IN SUCRE Recently, near Sucre, a group of paleontologists found a dinosaur track measuring 1.04 meters long and 80 cm wide. In this beautiful city, capital of Bolivia, the prehistoric animal tracks were already a tourist attraction and adding to that are the colonial houses, the Cathedral, the Casa de Libertad, and San Felipe of Neri convent, the Glorieta castle, the General Cemetery and a bit farther out, the towns of Tarabuco and Yotala, whose local markets are a visual delight in synch with the local music.

LOS ENCANTOS DEL PARAGUAY The charms of Paraguay

La primavera reverdece Asunción, la pujante capital paraguaya donde casi siempre es verano. Difícilmente el turista puede aburrirse en ella: su Palacio de Gobierno junto al río Paraguay, el Cabildo, la Casa de la Independencia y los parques acuáticos aledaños son imposibles de no visitar. En Ciudad del Este, el comercio concita la atención de nacionales y extranjeros; y al ser colindante la urbe con la brasileña Foz de Iguazú, llegar a las cataratas del mismo nombre es solo cuestión de minutos. Es en esta época también que Encarnación, la “capital del verano paraguayo”, empieza a recibir a quienes quieren gozar de su playa frente al Paraná o hacer compras a precios muy asequibles. Cerca a esta urbe se encuentran las productoras de yerba mate y las reducciones jesuíticas guaraníes, sitios dignos de visitar. Spring turns Asunción green; this bustling capital city of Paraguay where it is almost always summer. It would be hard for a tourist to be bored here: the Governmental Palace next to the Paraguay river; the Cabildo, the Casa de la Independencia, and the neighboring water parks are impossible to skip. In Ciudad de Este, shopping grabs the attention of locals and foreigners; as it is next to the Brazilian 20

city of Foz de Iguazú, you can reach the waterfalls with the same name in a question of minutes. It is also at this time of year that Encarnación the “capital of summer in Paraguay,” starts to greet those who delight on the beach in front of the Paraná or those who shop a at affordable prices. Near this city you will find the producers of yerba mate and the Jesuit mission, all worthy of visiting.

IQUIQUE ES INCREÍBLE Iquique is incredible

Situada en el norte de Chile, Iquique es sinónimo de zona franca o precios bajos en productos electrónicos que llegan hasta su puerto desde varios países. Está situada frente al océano Pacífico y junto al desierto de Atacama, cuyos morros son aprovechados para la práctica del parapente y el sandboard. En sus playas se disfruta de buenos restaurantes, bares y discotecas. Located in northern Chile, Iquique is synonymous with a free trade area or low prices for electronic products that reach this port from various countries. It is located on the Pacific Ocean, and next to the Atacama Desert, whose dunes are used for hang-gliding and sand boarding. Along the beach you can enjoy good restaurants, bars and discos.

URUGUAY PARA TODO GUSTO Uruguay for all tastes

Montevideo es un destino turístico para recorrerlo sin prisa, de punta a punta, para terminar extasiados con los atardeceres románticos en su rambla mientras contemplamos al Atlántico volverse de plata. Los edificios y monumentos históricos de la ciudad evocan a las grandes urbes europeas, y ya para asentarse en la cultura local, nada mejor que visitar el Mercado del Puerto y calmar el hambre con su culinaria o asistir a una cena-show en El Milongón, famoso centro de espectáculos para ver bailar candombe y tango. Al ser un país pequeño, todo es cerca en el Uruguay. Cuando vayas a Montevideo, date una vuelta por la pintoresca Colonia de Sacramento, donde gracias a la fusión de los estilos portugués, español y post-colonial de su arquitectura el tiempo parece haberse detenido. Si te gusta el vino y te interesa su producción, visita sus bodegas, cada una de ellas tiene una joya esperando a ser degustada. Y para quienes quieren sentirse como si estuvieran en Mónaco o en la Costa Azul, está Punta del Este. Anualmente, a esta ciudad-balneario llegan turistas de diversas latitudes y personajes del jet set mundial buscando su casino, playas, restaurantes y discotecas, y en el mar las ballenas brindan un grandioso espectáculo natural. 24

Montevideo is a tourist destination to walk through at a leisurely pace, from end to end, to finish the day in ecstasy with the romantic sunsets on the Rambla while watching the Atlantic Ocean turn silver. The historic buildings and monuments of the city evoke great European cities. To get a feel of the local culture, there is nothing better than visiting the Mercado del Puerto (the port market)

and getting rid of your hunger by trying the local cuisine or attending a dinner-show in the El Milongon, a famous show theater to see candombe and tango dancing. Because it is a small country, everything is near-by in Uruguay. When you go to Montevideo, take a spin around the picturesque Colonia De Sacramento, where thanks to the fusion of Portuguese, Spanish and post-colonial style architecture it seems that time stands still. If you

like wine and are interested in its production, visit the wineries as each has a jewel waiting to be tasted. And for those who want to feel like they were in Monaco or the Blue Coast, there is Punta de Este. Annually, this city-seaside resort receives tourists from different latitudes as well as of the international jet set, all looking for casinos, beaches, restaurants and discos. And in the sea, the whales provide an amazing natural spectacle.

A 30 minutos de la ciudad de Potosí, a 3.550 m s.n.m. y en una zona privilegiada por la naturaleza, está Cayara, la encomienda construida en 1557 por el español Juan Pendones. Sus títulos originales otorgados por el rey Felipe II demuestran que se trata de la primera hacienda edificada en la Nueva Toledo, zona en la que ahora se encuentra Bolivia. Cabe mencionar que uno de sus máximos logros es haber permanecido invicto en competiciones de carreras a escala nacional por más de una década, con récords que duraron 29 años, ¡corría como el viento! Asimismo, Rejas, tarijeño de nacimiento, representó a Bolivia 27 veces. Estuvo en torneos sudamericanos, mundiales (Italia, Israel, Alemania, URSS, Tanzania, entre otros) y en los Juegos Olímpicos de Moscú 1980 y Los Ángeles 1984. En Finlandia, en el Campeonato Militar, obtuvo el cuarto puesto en pruebas de velocidad. En la actualidad, con 52 años, casado y padre de tres niños que siguen sus pasos deportivamente, estuvo pendiente de los Juegos Olímpicos de Río con la experiencia que le dio la vida y el orgullo de haber sido uno de los hombres más veloces de su país y del mundo. Quien leyó a Mafalda en los 60, la puede leer ahora y creerá que el mundo no cambió para nada. La realidad que nos muestra esta niña argentina es atemporal: renegó contra la guerra, el desempleo, el machismo, la sumisión de la mujer, la opresión del gobierno, contra los ricos abusivos y los pobres de espíritu. Con 52 años sigue odiando la sopa y ama, sin medida, a los Beatles y al Pájaro Loco. “Quino”, su autor, la describe como “un espejo de la clase media latinoamericana y de la juventud progresista”. Si bien nació el 15 de marzo de 1962, fue dos años después, el 29 de septiembre, cuando comenzó a ser protagonista de la historieta que la volvió famosa en todo el planeta, ¡“habló” en 30 idiomas! Según contó su amigo Miguelito en una carta publicada en 1973, Mafalda ahora trabaja como médica solidaria y para la FAO combatiendo el hambre. Por su posición crítica y revolucionaria tuvo que dejar Argentina para residir en París. Felizmente no pudo parar el mundo y sigue en él. 38

En una mezcla de arte y protesta política, el diseñador de moda holandés Mattijs van Bergen y el artista Oeri van Woezik, crearon el vestido Arcoíris en colaboración con COC, una organización holandesa que trabaja para defender los intereses de hombres y mujeres del colectivo LGBTI. Se trata de una pieza compuesta por 72 banderas que representan todos los países en los que la homosexualidad es ilegal y puede ser castigada judicialmente.

¡Qué majao! What a dish of majao! ¿Seco o batido? Esa parece ser una pregunta crucial antes de servirse un majao, majau o majadido, el plato más tradicional de la cocina en el oriente boliviano (vale decir, en los departamentos de Santa Cruz, Beni y Pando). Cualquiera de las dos opciones harán danzar a tus papilas gustativas. Se trata de una comida muy sencilla a base de arroz y carne. El majao será seco cuando el arroz ha sido tostado antes de su cocción y batido cuando se obvió ese paso. Su origen es incierto, aunque se cree que la receta llegó con los conquistadores durante la Colonia; es evidente su similitud con la españolísima paella.

Su nombre parece ser una variación del término “majado” (que significa golpeado, machacado) y por el acento de los habitantes de la región adopta dicha pronunciación, “majao”. La carne utilizada (ya sea de vaca, gallina, pato o charque) es molida o desmenuzada antes de sofreírla con tomate, cebolla y otras especias, y ponerla a cocinar con el arroz. Generalmente, el majao seco se prepara con charque de vaca (arriba) y el batido con pollo o pato (página opuesta). Generally, dry majao is made with beef jerky (above) and the whipped is made with chicken or duck (opposite page).

Dry or whipped? That is a crucial question that must be answered before serving a dish of majao, majau or majadido, the most traditional dish of the eastern part of Bolivia (which, it is worth saying, means the Departments of Santa Cruz, Beni and Pando). Either choice will make your taste buds dance. This dish is a simple meal, made from a base of rice and meat. The majao is called dry when the rice has been toasted before it is cooked, and whipped when that step is skipped. The origin is uncertain, although it is thought that the recipe arrived with the conquistadors during the Colonial period; there is a definite similarity with Spa-

nish paella. The name appears to be a variation on the term “majado” (which means beaten or pounded) and given the regional accent used in this area the pronunciation became “majao.” The meat (whether beef, chicken, duck or jerky) is ground or shredded before it is lightly fried with tomato, onion and other spices, and then is put to cook with the rice. Over time, and depending on the preference of the cook, the majao can be served in different ways: it can be accompanied by a fried egg and fried banana, and there are those who add boiled or fried yucca (manioc) and a tomato and onion salad. SE VIENE LA MARATÓN ADIDAS EL 18 Oficialmente, ya está en marcha la segunda versión de la Maratón Adidas de Santa Cruz de la Sierra, un evento de Fair Play. En el lanzamiento realizado en el Ventura Mall se dieron a conocer datos generales de la actividad, horarios de largadas, recorridos y otras novedades para el domingo 18 de septiembre, día en el que más de 6.000 personas correrán por la “ciudad de los anillos”. Gustavo Buktenica, director de la marca para Centro, Sudamérica y el Caribe, destacó la importancia de la competencia para el país. Lola Group está a cargo de su producción.

MÉDICOS CELEBRAN LOS CINCO AÑOS DE MENACTRA EN BOLIVIA Sanofi Pasteur celebró los cinco años de Menactra en Bolivia en un evento denominado “Mágica prevención”, efectuado en el salón Jazmín del hotel Los Tajibos. AMASZONAS CRECE EN LA REGIÓN El Grupo Amaszonas se fortalece en la región con la presencia de tres aerolíneas nacionales en Bolivia, Paraguay y Uruguay, las mismas que ya se encuentran en operación con su propia red de destinos. En el aeropuerto Silvio Pettirossi de Asunción-Luque se produjo un evento importante cuando confluyeron tres aeronaves que representan a cada una de las aerolíneas del grupo. Entre las 7:00 y 8:30, aterrizó un avión de Amaszonas Uruguay en su primer vuelo de demostración, inmediatamente después lo hizo el de Amaszonas Línea

Aérea (Bolivia) en tránsito hacia Santa Cruz de la Sierra y finalmente el de Amaszonas Paraguay que retornaba de Ciudad del Este. Las aeronaves se posaron sobre la plataforma del aeropuerto paraguayo y allí se mostraron por primera vez los colores de las aerolíneas del Grupo Amaszonas. Amaszonas tiene como objetivo ofrecer una adecuada y eficiente conectividad regional entre los destinos de los países en los que opera, para ello utiliza en todas sus aerolíneas al Jet Bombardier CRJ de fabricación canadiense.

Esta oficina atenderá de lunes a domingo, incluido feriados, hasta las 21:00. Se pueden hacer reservas y compra de pasajes a todos los destinos de Amaszonas.
