LJ has been inducted as a member into the Continental Who’s Who of National Business Leaders for exceptional achievement, outstanding leadership and professionalism. She’s been recognized as a Professional Women of the Year by the National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) for outstanding leadership and commitment as well as selected as a Women of Outstanding Leadership by the International Women’s Leadership Association (IWLA). Naomi is the sister-in-law of the late Dr. ML King who is Alveda’s Uncle. ON THE COVER In a perfect world, we would all get along and enjoy every waking minute we spend with both our immediate and extended family. But in reality we don’t live in a perfect world so depending on the circumstances, spending time with family can be tough. As a result, it’s important to prepare ahead of time and do your best to set boundaries for
Balance is like a Dance, like the “Cha-Cha” or Salsa if you will. Now to avoid the frustrating feeling of taking two steps forward and two steps back- you need to set healthy boundaries- so Balance is all about boundaries. If you lean too far to the right side you’ll fall over, if you lean too far over to the left side, you’ll fall over. So balance is important in order to have a sense of fulfillment and avoid feeling overloaded and overwhelmed, because being overloaded and overwhelmed is often the result of being out of balance. Contributing to the well being of others, by giving back or helping out is great, but not at the expense of your emotional or physical health. Here are a few more tips: 1.
loved ones you find it challenging to be around. It’s also important during your time with them to focus on things in your control (yourself) and things outside of your control (them).
You must get clarity by taking a look at what’s creating the tension and friction between you. Is it a family feud that’s been passed down from one generation to the next? Is it a misunderstanding that simply needs to be resolved? Is it a need for more effective communication? Take inventory and find out what parts of your family relationships are functioning well and what parts are dysfunctional and why.
A client of mine was dreading spending time with her Mother-in-law, so we sat down to explore the root cause of her negative feelings towards her, and why for years she didn’t really want to deal with her. Interestingly enough, she discovered that a lot of it had to do with the fact that they both had a different way of viewing the world based on their individual life experiences. She also realized after reviewing Gary Chapman’s 5 Love Languages, they both expressed and received love completely different, which was a major factor in their lack of support and understanding of one another. So I’m happy to report that although the relationship between them isn’t perfect, she no longer has a sinking feeling or dreads spending time with her like she once did As you continue to spend time with family this Fall and prepare to spend time with extended family during the Holidays, I’d like to share some helpful tips. The first one is for you to maintain balance. . October 2015 Amazing Women

Truth is, a people pleasing, self-sacrificing, martyr strategy doesn’t work, all it leads to is feeling burnt out and resentful. An Interview with Naomi and Dr. Alveda King
Raven: Welcome everyone to the Amazing Women and Men of Power, world’s leading positive programming network. Hello, this is a special broadcast that we’re interrupting regular programming for. I want to say hello to everyone, this is Raven “The Talk Show Maven” and you’re tuned into the Amazing Women and Men of Power, world’s leading positive programming network powered by Raven International. Hope you’re having a great day. That powerful voice you hear in the background is one of the late A.D. Williams King the brother of Dr. Martin Luther King. I'm so delighted and honored and just amazingly proud to have his wife, his beautiful wife, widow Naomi Barber King and his daughter that you’ve heard so much from, Dr. Alveda King here to join us today to find out more about A.D. Williams King the brother of Martin Luther King and to find out more about Rev. Martin Luther King as Alveda calls him Uncle M.L. and a little bit about what Naomi went through during that time. I mean, she was right there in the thick of it and I know Alveda was and we’re going to find out how much she remembers as a child and hear the words of these two dynamic super fabulous strong powerful King women.
So without further ado if you’re standing sit down and if you’re sitting stand up because the ladies, they’re here, none other than Alveda and her Mom Naomi Barber King. Welcome, ladies, to Behind the Mic with Raven right here on Amazing Women of Power. How are you doing? Alveda: Thank you so much. This is Alveda and I'm about to ask Mother to answer your questions very quickly for Raven. Mother was a young bride in 1950 when she married Rev. A.D. Williams King. She found herself the sisterin-law of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and the daughter in law of Daddy King and Mama King. So she has many, many wonderful accounts that she can share. If you see a picture of her in her book or caricature pictures or glass pictures, see her on television you’ll always see a butterfly perhaps in her hair or on her shoulder or on her fingers or around her neck. She’s known as the “Butterfly Queen” because the butterfly symbolizes peace and power and beauty. I was telling my granddaughters yesterday, two of my youngest granddaughters and a grandson said that butterflies are one of God’s most beautiful creations. And so Mom is the “butterfly queen” but Raven, let’s just jump in because there are two testimonials that my Mother gives often maybe even three, depends on how she tells them. Raven: Okay. Alveda: One is mama when Uncle M.L. was in Montgomery and he had been in jail and they let him out of jail to come home. Mother was there, Mother was born on November 17th and Yolanda, the oldest of Martin and Coretta, M.L. and Aunt Coretta’s children, Yolanda, was born also on November 17th. So Mother had journeyed over to Montgomery to see her little birth mate and she will tell you what happened in Montgomery when she went over to see her birth mate, Yolanda. Uncle M.L and the tie and all of it. Go ahead, Mother.

ON THE COVER Naomi: Oh, thank you so much for asking and it’s a pleasure for me to talk. As my daughter Alveda just said that I was in Montgomery because Yolanda was born on November 17, 1955 and I was born in November 17, 1931 so you can just do the math. I was just so happy to be there because I wanted to show some love to Yolanda. It was about 10:30-11:00 O’clock at night and I was seated in the darkened living room and the only light that was shining was the street light from the window. My beautiful sister in law Coretta was attending to Yolanda and I was just sitting there thanking God and praising him for all of the blessings.
to choke me to death with my tie. I said, what, M.L. and he said yes, they did. I know it must have been painful because he continued to struggle with it. I was so glad that he could not see my face because at that point tears began to fall from my eyes and so the next words that he said floored me -- he said, you know, Ninnie, the more that we’re abused as a people he said that’s the more we’ve got to know them and forgive them. Tears were just streaming down my face because looking at him and listening to him this is when I could pick up the tone— that of non violence and in my heart of hearts when he said those words that was when I knew that M.L. would become the leader that he became to the world. Alveda: Wow. Raven, what do you think of that? Raven: Wow, Ninnie, I'm telling you first of all you definitely can tell a story in a way that we don’t just hear your words we can feel it. I felt every word, Alveda, that your Mom spoke. Alveda: That’s what I was telling.
It was 11 O’clock when M.L. as we called him, came in, he couldn’t see my face because the living room was dark as I said and he came in and he went straight to his mantle and he placed his hand upon the mantle. He was somewhat sideways to me and Martin said Ninnie, that’s what he always called me, Ninnie. So it was M.L. and it was Ninnie, so he said Ninnie, I said, yes, M.L., he said do you know what happened to me. I said no and I noticed that his tie was open and his shirt collar was open and his tie was loose and he was constantly fingering at his tie. So I looked at him but I didn’t see anything, I was just listening. So he said, Ninnie, he said I was detained at the police station. I said, yes, and he said, still struggling with, toying with the tie around his neck he said, “you know Ninnie, they tried
Raven: And she remembers that well. You know, you mentioned butterflies bringing her on and I actually got to see a video where she had two little butterflies in her hair. Alveda: Well, you saw it clear. How long ago has that been, that’s been like 23-24 years ago. It feels like yesterday and we just keep going but I say, Mom, let’s go to Callaway Garden, that’s in Georgia. And we went and there’s a beautiful butterfly atrium there. So in the butterfly atrium I went one way, Mother went the other way because it’s a place where you go and you just observe the beauty and you just get time for quiet reflection. So Mother, what happened with you in the butterfly atrium, what happened?

ON THE COVER Naomi: Oh, it was just amazing and really I was speechless because I had never encountered anything like that, so standing there in the room there is the plant that they feed on and it was that very warm climate and so I'm standing there just looking and there were so many butterflies that I thought I was in a butterfly world. When I was standing there and I had my hands outstretched and my fingers outstretched and from my perspective all of them are beautiful but the most beautiful one is the Monarch, he’s black and has gold dots on his body.
Alveda: They gave her a gift of butterflies. Raven: Well, I know how wonderful that is, I used to be a doll collector, and I know what you mean, Naomi, because my mother gave me my first little set of dolls and I loved them when I was a kid. And as I grew I got bigger and stuff and like you, Naomi, you don’t have to ask for one because what you get them for birthdays. I'm sure it’s the same with you for butterflies, when I see the gift you will be getting from me, a butterfly. Well, I’ve got to ask you guys why it’s so wonderful, I feel so blessed to have this moment with you and I'm trying to squeeze out some things. I have a couple of questions for you, Alveda, but I want to ask your mom something about her beloved husband. I love when I listen to those videos and I see that smile and I see her eyes and you talk about your beloved husband. Share with us a little bit about him, maybe some favorite things that you loved about him. Alveda: Tell her about your sweet 16 party, share some things you really love about your beloved A.D.
So as I was standing there and extended my hand out and do you know that when I looked one Monarch landed on my finger, one landed in my hair, another landed on my shoulder and the rest is history. Alveda: We came back and she began to collect butterflies, and beautifully so. She would buy one type of butterfly that might be on a curtain or shirt, a piece of jewelry, so one day I looked at her and said Mother, listen to me, this is just enough. Don’t you buy another pair of butterflies! Naomi: I said don’t worry about that, people will give them to me. Raven: Give them to you. I know, I’ve seen a video where you did a speech and someone gave you this big butterfly.
Naomi: Oh, there are just so many encounters that I could tell you about though it would take me a long, long time. But the first thing I’d like to share is that when I met my beloved husband, my soul-mate if you will, at a YWCA party

ON THE COVER and we were like 13 and 14 years old. This was the first time I met him and when I met him and we talked for a little bit I liked him while he’d been there. He was as cute as he could be and so with that voice, very popular so we just enjoyed that very, very much. I once said A.D., I want you to take me to the movie theatre. Because I want to see this picture, Blue Skies and so he listened to me and he said are you through, I said yes, and he said I love you, he said, but I can’t take you to the movies so I said well, okay, I said I’ll go myself. So at that time. you know, how you had April showers and it was a beautiful day and I got to the Fox Theatre and Negroes had to go from the outside and climb stairs while the white folk came in from the front doors. So half way up the stairs a shower came and I was -- my mother kept my beautiful dress starched out. I remember how long this beautiful dress was starched and I was looking pretty and the showers came and I was half way there I was so distressed and I didn’t know whether to go up or turn around and come down or go up. So I pretended to go up and into the theatre and as I was walking and I couldn’t really enjoy it because I was half wet and then I was mad because I had to climb the stairs while the white folk had come in the front doors. So when it was over and I came on down and when I got back in that car my father loaned A.D. and I told him what happened to me he said you had no business to go anyway. Alveda: Raven, I know our time is moving on. Mama, talk about A.D. the civil rights leader. You know, we always hear about Uncle M.L. but A.D., what kind of civil rights leader was daddy?
Naomi: I would just like for everyone to know that my husband was an icon in his own right, he was second to none, I said he was always there with his brother in the background. And they were as close as breathing, so whatever walk my husband was there with leadership in his own iconic way. Raven: Yes, he was. I’ve been reading so much about him and a lot of people didn’t know that there were some times when Rev. Martin Luther King sent your husband ahead to march or to be part of the movement. Can you tell us, you or Alveda, share a little bit about that? Alveda: Yeah, he was not only a part he was an organizer, he was always the advance man when they needed money raised, when they needed transportation he was known -- at one point he got a big CEO of a company a Caucasian man just take the corporate jet and fly them somewhere. So he was always a very resourceful and powerful preacher of the gospel of Jesus Christ himself, a peace mediator. When they bombed our house in 1963 he was able to calm that crowd and I remember because mother is good friends with the daughter of Viola Liuzzo who was killed in Selma during the Bloody Sunday time. I remember daddy because I wanted to hate somebody when my uncle was killed, my Uncle M.L. was killed. And daddy said, Alveda, you can’t hate white people, white people marched with us, white people prayed with us, white people died with us. And he was saying that “Of one blood” I say M.L. and daddy always had Act 17:26 “Of one blood, God made all people to live on the earth.” So they taught and preached that you can’t hate, you have to love. And daddy was masterful with calming crowds. Raven: Yeah. I know for sure that --maybe you can help me out with this. Did they come out with the documentary about your dad? I know I heard that they were going to.

ON THE COVER Alveda: Yes, there is A.D. and M.L. King, that documentary. And mother and Dr. Babs Onabanjo who is the president of the A.D. King Foundation, mother is the chairman Emeritus and you can go to adkingfoundation.com and get the documentary. You can order it but there’s a beautiful trailer right there if you go to adkingfoundation.comand then you look at movies, click on the menu and you can see the trailer to that documentary. Mother is in that trailer talking about how her home was bombed and there’s a picture of daddy in there talking and all of that. Daddy King is in there as well. Raven: Yeah. Well, let’s talk about the foundation real quick Naomi and Alveda. Tell us a little bit about the A.D. King Foundation. I know, Naomi, you were telling me before that you had, you were notified and in some
way can you share a little bit with us about that. Alveda: What is the mission of the A.D. King Foundation and some of the places you have travelled. Naomi: The mission of the A.D. King Foundation is simply education and my role is to go to the different schools and speak to the children and entertain their questions so that they will be knowledgeable about in whatever way that they wish to go. We’re six years old, the organization is six years old and it has enabled me to travel to Jamaica, The Virgin Islands, Northern England, Brazil, and Johannesburg, South Africa which has been a world of experience. The primary mission of A.D. King Foundation is youth empowerment and that’s the difference.

She’s wonderful and phenomenal with young people. Raven: Yeah, absolutely. Well, like you said we’ve got just about five more minutes so let me talk to you real quick, Alveda, about some of your memories that you remember especially -- I mean, you were young when a lot of this stuff was going on. What do you remember most about during those times?
Alveda: Yeah, I was young when it started but when it was over -- I went on my first march in ’63, I was 12, I went on a children’s march during the children’s campaign down in Alabama and my daddy and my teachers, primary teachers there, and they taught us to have the Ten Commandments of non violence which you could see a copy of on the foundation website. We had to be nonviolent, we were trained in it. Of my school mates was killed in the 60’s and I was a youth organizer, daddy formed the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and I was youth organizer there. And that’s when I was jailed when I marched in Alabama and was jailed and marched and was jailed again. I got married the year of the march and it was the same time daddy was mysteriously found in our swimming pool. Mother and I saw the bruises on his head when they pulled him out but mother was never able to go to the morgue and see the bruises on his body and everything yet there was no water in his lungs.
Alveda: At least mysterious if nothing else that his house had been bombed, his church had been bombed, he was a powerful leader and organizer. So we keep joy in our hearts and that’s of course one of the beautiful thing because its love to use forgiveness and as you do that -- for example, you see mama she has very few wrinkles on her face, she’s just gorgeous, she’s pretty. I'm a little embarrassed about weighing more than she does, she’s a speaker and a motivator. She’s active in church, I don’t know how to explain it except it’s the business of God. How to Market Yourself to Event Planners By Tonya Hofmann
achieve this goal. Well-delivered presentations at well-organized events earn the speakers name recognition, get their message heard, drive sales and opportunities, and build their reputation as forces for true change.
The market for speakers is always changing. All events, even virtual ones, are demanding and stressful, and need speakers to be a part of their success team rather than just flying in and out without much interaction. This article will explore how events can find creative ways to balance the investment in speakers with the end result: an informed, enlightened and motivated audience, as well as satisfied clients, sponsors, volunteers – and even the speakers themselves.
Speakers’ Fees Speakers’ fees have changed along with the changing times. Everything seems to be negotiable in today’s market. For both the speaker and the event, the challenge is to figure out how to create a win for both.
The Speaker’s Mindset In the past, speakers often had an “employee” mindset. Someone would contact a speaker, negotiate the fee and travel expenses, book the time and the topic, and then have little interaction until the event. With this approach, speakers are paid for their time and their expertise and rarely offer anything extra. The “employee” attitude is most common with celebrities, CEOs and sought-after speakers whose time is very limited.
There are some speakers that are just worth paying for. As I mentioned, the more in demand someone is the less time they have open on their calendar. To secure those who you want to absolutely speak at the event, agree up front on their speaker’s fee. You can always throw in some of these other options for marketing benefits as an extra bonus offer for them to say “YES”!
These days most professional speakers have a more entrepreneurial mindset. Their goal is to create momentum and interaction, and their highest accomplishment at your event is to have done that well. Such speakers work with event organizers on marketing and promotion to help create excitement about the event, and are sometimes involved in attracting attendees, vendors, sponsors and even other speakers to
Speakers’ fees range from $0 to thousands, but under certain circumstances even the most popular and sought-after speaker will speak for no or low fees nowadays. Working within your budget, you will have to decide how flexible you can be in your negotiations with prospective speakers. Open -minded and creative negotiations about fees can result in a fresh new approach that will benefit all parties. If your budget is low, you could supplement the speaker’s fee with one or more of these other options.
The paid for speaker is a great marketing platform for your event. Make sure you utilize their name, head shot, bio, titles, videos, etc. to enhance your attendance package. If they are not as well-known but bring huge value on the training aspect, focus your marketing on the brilliance of the actual activity and presentation. Pump up your marketing to create a Wow environment so that the attendees are looking forward to the presentation.

BUSINESS on their website, handing out fliers or postcards at other events, and personally connecting with people who might want to attend or be a vendor or sponsor. Writing a Blog Speakers could be asked to write a blog or article for your next newsletter or website. This will bring more interest around the keynote presentation and any workshops or training at the event. After-conference blogs or articles will also continue the conversation and training. Speakers’ Availability Attendees expect and appreciate more interaction before, during and after the event with those who are training, inspiring and motivating them. Greater speaker availability helps the retention of knowledge because it gives attendees opportunities to ask questions and discuss what they just heard. Speakers are usually happy to sign on for more interaction because they realize that being available to connect with the attendees is vital in today’s market. Most speakers want to be there for questions, comments, interaction, conversation and other opportunities to connect. Today’s professional speakers thrive on this approach, which gives them a sense of bringing significance to the events they speak at. Pre/Post-Event Interaction The payoff can be great when you entice the attendees, vendors and sponsors by introducing the speakers in advance. Speakers benefit by connecting with the crowd and warming everyone up to their message before the event. Simple audio or video calls can be recorded and posted on YouTube to create excitement for the event on your website, in newsletters and via social media connections. It is so easy for speakers to record a two- to five-minute video introducing themselves, talking about what they will be training on at the event, and encouraging people to attend. People love video and getting to hear a speaker’s message beforehand. As a bonus, putting the videos on the conference
website also helps with the website’s search engine optimization because Google loves video! After the event, sending a video or teleseminar offering a follow-up with the speakers will help ensure that the participants remember what they need to do, accomplish, take action on. The attendees will feel even more empowered and motivated, and will have immediate action plans to contribute to the follow-up meeting. This approach brings huge value to attendees and especially to corporate accounts that are looking for reasons to send their employees to an event. Giveaways
Ask the speaker/s to offer giveaways or special bonuses to attendees, sponsors and VIP guests. Suppose there are 10 workshop trainers and one keynoter, and each speaker gives away a special bonus to those who attend in person versus on a simulcast, or to those who sign up before a cut-off date. If each speaker offers a PDF, a promo item or a ticket to a special webinar, for example, and each one is worth $100, then you can promote a total value of more than $1,000 in bonus offers! This is a great strategy to get people to buy their tickets early, and again the speakers love it since the attendees get to know about them ahead of time. Extras for VIPs/Volunteers/Sponsors Speakers can also bring extra value to special marketing and promotions or to certain individuals. For a thank-you party for volunteers or at events for your VIP guests, sponsors, vendors, etc., speakers can do something special as a bonus – even an exclusive webinar/ teleconference call with your special guests. Most speakers would jump at the chance to speak more than once and it gives your organization another marketing approach to

BUSINESS promote those VIP tickets or another reason for sponsors to jump in. Vendor Booths and Sales Many speakers want to sell products, sign books, offer a contest or giveaway for lead generation, and interact. Sometimes offering a booth or a table for such activities can be enough to reduce or even offset the speaker’s fee. It might be necessary to negotiate the size of the area with the speaker to make sure the space is adequate. They could be bringing a sign or banner to hang, or they might need a chair or bar stool, room to do an activity, or skirting for a table – or they might prefer to be in your vendor, sponsorship or exhibit area. No Sales If you really don’t want selling of any kind or any lead generation at your event, then you will need to pay the speakers for their time and higher speakers’ fees will come into play. However, be careful, because audiences can get only so much from a 30-minute or even a two-hour presentation. If the audience is to learn some new ideas and skills and transform their habits, tactics, challenges, businesses, lives, etc., they must go further with the speaker to create permanent and lasting change – and that’s a sales process. If sales are out of the question, then it might be necessary to buy some books from the speaker for the attendees, provide contact information for all the attendees, sponsors or vendors, or allow speakers to hand out contest forms, for example. Be creative in the sales approach if a “pitch” isn’t something you want. Revenue Sharing Is your event a fundraising opportunity for your business, organization or company? Many speakers will consider revenue sharing, where they sell at your event and split the profit with you. If they offer something amazing on stage and/or at their booth, then they give the event a percentage; 25/75 or 40/60 splits are usual. (Lower amount to the event and higher to the speaker.)
This could generate significant revenue for the event. Because you are providing the speakers with a venue for sales, prospective new clients, an atmosphere of excitement and a unique marketing opportunity, of course they will be pleased to give back. Be Creative Ideally most of these ideas would be negotiated into the speaker’s contract, but at a minimum aim to include all the negotiable selections that you feel are essential for both the speaker and the event. This is the negotiation platform to start with. Most professional speakers will consider any and all of these options because in today’s market there are plenty of amazing speakers to choose from and they will all want to participate in and contribute to a successful and effective event. As an event organizer, the most effective utilization of a speaker is at the end of the event. It is the satisfaction that the whole event went off without a hitch. When the attendees, vendors, sponsors and speakers reach out to tell you what an amazing event it was for them. That moment of complete satisfaction is the outcome that everyone is searching for. I learned a long time ago, you don’t know what you can get until you ask but if you never ask, you never get. So discuss your expectations, desires and ultimate outcome you wish to create and most people are on the same platform with you. Most people want to help to achieve your goals because truthfully, it is usually their goals too. When goals are aligned, then the outcome is inevitable. If the speaker has completely different goals than you do, it is better to find someone else so that the outcome is achievable. Most importantly, have fun! Life is too short to deal with mean, grumpy or negative people and there are way too many amazing, incredible and nice people on this planet to deal with anyone who isn’t just plan FABULOUS! I know that I love not only speaking and putting on my own events but especially helping create a

Uncover Hidden Money From New Found Sales In The Next 60-90 Days! By Terri Levine A Small Business Administration study reveals that 60 percent of all new businesses fail within the first six years of operation. Dun and Bradstreet estimates that 82 percent go under by their tenth anniversary and that is in an average economy. Dun and Bradstreet also report that there are two reasons why a business fails. The first reason is the business fails to understand the market for their product or service.
If you are like the business owners I meet, you most likely have a great business idea and you had the desire to be in business for yourself. You might have a top product or service and might even have a loyal following of customers and maybe even have established good relationships with other businesses. I celebrate you for the work you have done in the past. Now I am going to help you further.
First, the other reason that businesses fail is inadequate capitalization. I certainly don’t want you to rush out and borrow money. Instead I will show you how you can capitalize your business through more sales. If you are like most business owners you probably prefer not to get into more debt but to build your business through increased sales.
In my experience consulting and mentoring over 5,000 business owners, the main problem with a business owner is they have a great idea about going into business, but they don’t have a clue about the amount of work it will take to get their product or service to customers. Every day I speak to business owners and universally I believe they have skills in what they do. A chiropractor is great at chiropractic care; a salon owner does amazing things with hair; an attorney knows law inside and out, etc. I also hear their passion for establishing their own businesses and a big desire to get the word out even further to their markets. The problem I see is that when they got into business they had no idea how much work it would take to get their products and services into the hands of paying customers.
It’s time you learn how to market and sell in this century and that you understand how marketing and sales are different today. Marketing today is not based on spending a lot of money on ads that don’t work. Marketing today is about asset marketing, which is proven to work. Think of traditional marketing: Ads, direct mail, copywriting, website, etc. Nothing is wrong with any of those tools but they all cost money. Instead focus on asset marketing to help you discover hidden assets within your business that you already have. Optimize those assets, leverage them and increase your sales. There are three ways to give you exponential growth. I’m not talking about growth of maybe five or ten percent. I am talking about growth that will really excite you. You can use these tools to grow from 25% to even 100% or maybe 1,000%.

BUSINESS I am all about getting a return on investment from marketing. Your marketing system needs to be performance based so you always know what is working and you let go of anything that isn’t working. This means you have a marketing system you can track and monitor regularly with numbers and not with your gut. The Most Important Two Words In Marketing: Optimize and leverage; they are the only two words you need to keep in mind. You are going to optimize and leverage your hidden marketing assets. These are the assets that are already sitting within your business. Potential Revenue Opportunity: Let’s begin with the assumption you have past customers. Let me tell you the story of an actual client so you can see how past customers made him a fortune when he put our system to work for his business. An Example: One of our clients is a physician and he is the owner of a medical spa focusing on women’s weight loss as well as beauty through dermatological care. When we began working with him, he had about 7,000 people who had purchased something at some time from his business. When we dug deeper with him we found that over 4,000 of his patients were inactive, meaning they hadn’t made a purchase from his business for over a year. He was depressed when he saw the numbers but we were thrilled! Why? It’s because now we had 4,000 people who became his hidden assets. We could optimize and leverage his former patients and reactivate them to purchase again. Guess why most businesses have their customers stop buying from them. It’s because the business stops staying in touch with them. Do you have that goldmine, that asset, of former customers in your business?
Multi-Pillar Marketing System: Your success depends on having a multi-pillar marketing system. You need to be using many pillars for long-term success and the biggest financial gains without a lot of expense in time, energy or money. As I said earlier, the most important two words in marketing are: optimizing and leveraging. My goal is to help you get the maximum return for the least amount of expense for the longest duration of time on everything you’re currently doing now, have done in the past, and will do in the future. Many companies won’t survive the challenges of marketing because they’re only using one or two pillars.
Three Ways For Exponential Growth: This is another unique benefit of implementing this marketing and selling system into your business. Instead of only focusing on generating new prospects the unique approach of this marketing system is that it works with two other ways to grow your business. It also increases your conversion rate of prospects to customers as well as increasing the value of each customer by increasing the average transaction value, and increasing the number of transactions. Most businesses are only using number one – trying to get more prospects. Now you will have three ways to get a significant growth or increase. Growth of 20 – 25% or More: On average most of our clients can grow their businesses 20-25% or more. Let’s take some numbers and illustrate how our clients and you can make a lot more money. BUSINESS What we do with our clients is identify these numbers as they relate specifically to your business, but here’s just an example. Numbers: Let’s say you have 200 prospects now, and 20 percent of them are closing. So, you’ve got 40 customers. And let’s also say the average customer’s worth $1,000. That’s $40,000 in gross sales. Let’s say we grew the first number. Let’s say your website did very well for a year, and it gave you 240 prospects. At 20 percent, you’d have 48 customers. At $1,000, you’d have $48,000. So, you grew 20 percent. Right?
When we go in and we increase 20 percent in all three areas – so, in this example we get 240 prospects, we have 24 percent closing, giving 57.6 customers, and we increase customer value to $1,200; that is $69,000 instead of $48,000 gross, 72.8 percent actual growth. Isn’t that amazing? Marketing Power: That’s the power of this marketing system. There is no other marketing system like this. This is what sets this apart from anything else out there because it is the only system that works on all three ways to grow.
Let’s take a look at conversion rates. Let’s say you ran Facebook ads and they didn’t work for a while, but we were able to help your salespeople do better, and so they closed 24 percent instead of 20. You’ve still got 48 customers at $1,000. You’ve got your gross of $48,000, right? Let’s also then say that your salespeople didn’t do any better, your Facebook ad didn’t do any better, but we did some up selling or we did some marketing to increase the average customer value of $1,000 to $1,200. So, if we did that and kept the 40 customers, you’ve got $48,000 or you’ve got your 20 percent growth. Right?
So, any one of those three ways, we can grow your business 20 percent. The problem is most businesses only grow using one of these and if that one stops they can’t be out of business and if they are only using one they are missing two more opportunities for growth.
That’s why our clients have seen 25, 50, 100 and up to a 1,000 percent growth because we work on all three ways. So, it makes sense, doesn’t it, to focus on all three? The growth is geometric. The compound effect on each number is exactly geometric, and that’s the exciting thing that our clients have seen happen.
Marketing and Innovation: There’s no better investment in your business than marketing. Marketing and innovation make money. Everything else is a cost. I’d bet it’s been hard for you from time to time to pay some of your marketing or advertising bills. You might even feel sick when you look at marketing expenses. And, if you attend trade shows, they aren’t cheap. They’re outrageous. Probably $10,000, $15,000 just to go to one? Remember that the ads or marketing expenses, (even those hard to pay) if they have made you money, are a wise investment.

Boost Your End-of-Year Sales with Love Based Copy By Michele Pariza Wacek It’s fall, and you know what that means: cooler temperatures, changing leaves, pumpkin spice lattes, and crackling fires in the fireplace… ahh! I just love this time of year!
consumer, you may feel pressured to make a decision about whether the product or service the page is selling is right for you. You might also think they can’t possibly work. Not only do they feel inauthentic and filled with hype (cue: stereotypical salesperson), but they’re also way too long to be effective in today’s fast-paced world. No one reads all the way through them. And even if they do, no one buys. Right? Actually, that’s not true. Those long copy sales pages DO work. BUT, there’s a reason why they feel so icky. It’s because a lot of traditional direct response copywriting (which is what it’s called when you write those very long sales letters) is based on fear.
But there’s more to Fall than the awesomeness of the season, isn’t it. As an entrepreneur, you’re likely thinking about how you’re heading into the final months of 2015. And if you are, you may also be wondering what you can do to boost your end-of-yearsales. I want to issue a challenge, right now, because I’m confident that if you take me up on it, you CAN boost your sales numbers before beginning 2016. Ready?
You see, people make buying decisions based on emotions. So that means if you want to have effective direct response copy, it absolutely must tap into emotions. The good news is that you have a choice. You can tap into love-based emotions like respect, hope, and transformation, instead of fear-based emotions like shame, guilt and worry. This brings us back to the challenge I issued at the beginning of this article. Now, you may be wondering how, exactly, to use love-based copy in your marketing materials.

Let’s start with a little background: you know those really long sales letters you find on the Internet where you scroll and scroll and scroll, looking for the price? Yeah, you probably hate them, don’t you? If you do, it’s likely because as a businessperson, they make you feel kind of “icky.” And as a

BUSINESS Concept 1: Get to know your ideal clients. Focus on who they are, what their values are, what motivates them, what moves them and what keeps them up at night. Get to know them like you would a friend. You might take this one step further by creating a client avatar. The bottom line: the better you get to know the, the easier it will be to write your marketing materials.
Concept 2: Yes, you have to touch on your ideal client’s pain. The key: when you do, do so respectfully. Some entrepreneurs are afraid to talk about their ideal clients’ pain/problems because they don’t want to be arm-twisty. I admit, this can feel a little bit confusing. Here’s the thing: talking about someone’s pain is NOT the same as arm twisting that uses fear-based tactics. Pain is a natural part of life, and you provide your product or program or service to help people move beyond a specific type of pain, so they can feel better. If you don’t mention that pain in your marketing materials, how will your ideal clients even know if you can help them? How will they ever see what’s possible bey6ond the pain they’re in? That being said, it’s important to touch briefly on pain, and then move onto solutions. You see, suffering is different from pain. Suffering takes place in our minds, thanks to fear-based emotions, and exacerbates the pain.
Concept 3: Write your promotional materials as if you’re writing to a friend (not as if you’re writing to a “walking wallet”). Remember above, where I said entrepreneurs should know their ideal client as well as they know a good friend? This is why — I want you to write to your ideal client as if she IS your friend. You want your ideal prospects to feel all of your passion and energy ar9ound helping them get past the pain they’re in, so they can experience a transformation in their lives. When you come from a place of passion and friendship, you naturally move away from the fear-based emotions and into love-based. Doesn’t that feel soooo much better? So—work on honing your love-based copywriting skills for the next couple of weeks, and discover the impact it has on your sales throughout November and December. Happy Fall! the Better Fonts app) in your name or the title of your scopes. Android users are not able to read these special characters (verified on July 25, 2015).
By Michelle A. Roberts First things First! 1. If you don’t have a Twitter account you will need this, Twitter and Periscope are connected. Www.twitter.com Go to your App store on your phone and Download the “periscope app”. Upload a photo. Periscope is about building personal relationships with people. You cannot do this if your periscope account is represented by an empty profile, also known as an egg. Don’t be an egghead.

Put the URL to a website where folks can learn more about you and exchange their contact information in your Periscope bio within the first 117 characters (you have a total of 160 available). This is important because only about 117 characters of your bio show on the Periscope app (Verified on July 25, 2015). Be aware that your website url is click-able on the web version, not the app. Before starting your Periscope broadcast (aka “scope”), make sure you have a solid wireless Internet connection. If your connection is bad, your scope will lag and may freeze.
4. Before starting your scope, make sure that your audio is good. While it’s nice to have great lighting, your audio is most important. If people cannot hear you, they cannot engage with you. IF people are not engaging, your Periscope profile will become a poor imitation of YouTube or Snap chat.
6. Name every single one of your scopes. Write
drafts of your headlines in Twitter and make sure that you have at least 20 characters left in the title. This leaves enough room for the information the Periscope app will add without cutting off your Tweets. User has tags (#) in the title of your scope that will be useful once the title of your scope is shared by you and others on Twitter. 7. Set up an IFTTT recipe on www.IFTTT.com that publishes tweets containing a specific hash tag to your social media sites. Be sure to include this hash tag in titles for the scopes that you want to share on multiple social networks. This automates the process of letting folks in your other social media communities know that you are live on Periscope. Don’t abuse this feature with aggressive auto-posting. If you are scoping a lot, you may not want to share all of your scopes. 8.
Pay attention to what is in front of you when you launch your scope. Whatever your camera is facing when you start your broadcast will be the archived image visible on the replay of your scope.

Write down several points that you want to cover in each broadcast. You may not get through them all, but be ready to have something of value to share!
10. Write down URLs for websites and other things that you will mention during your scope on index cards. When you reference these during your scope, hold up your index card and invite people to take a screenshot they can save for reference after your scope has ended.

Let folks who are following you on your other social networks know that you’re about to go live on Periscope about 10-15 minutes before your scope. Do this for both scheduled and impromptu scopes. The more people know, the more people can show up on your broadcast. Right before you hit the “broadcast” button, make sure that the Twitter bird is highlighted. When you do this Periscope will tweet out a message that you are life, Katch.me will start recording your scope and iFFF will make sure your Facebook and LinkedIn communities know that you are broadcasting.
13. Right before you start to broadcast your scope make sure that the padlock symbol is NOT highlighted. When the padlock is highlighted, the commends on your scopes are limited to those people you follow on Periscope. 14. During the Broadcast Tips: 1. Give people about 20 seconds or so to join your scope before you get into your content. This gives your tribe enough time to do things like get the notification that you are broadcasting; open up their Periscope app; and hop onto your scope somewhere there is a good internet connection. While waiting for folks to join your scope, use this time to: Welcome people to your scope Tell folks who will be watching the replay how to show love by tapping the screen for hearts and help promote your message by sharing your scope Acknowledge regular viewers and extra special broadcasters who have joined you Introduce yourself and tell people how to find you online. Do this throughout your broadcast 2. Record your broadcast in portrait view, not landscape. This makes it easy to view and comment. 3. Tell folks to share your scope if they want to bless other people. They can do this by hitting the little person at the bottom right of their screen if they are on a mobile device. 4. Throughout the broadcast, remind your viewers to share your scope if they are finding it valuable. Don’t be shy about doing this, folks who want to help to spread your message may forget to do this if not reminded. If you are sharing great content (which I know you are) others deserve to hear it! BUSINESS 5. Tell folks that they can demonstrate their love for your message and your content by tapping the screen to give you hearts. Remind the viewers that if they want to bless you with more than 500 hearts, they have to leave the broadcast ad come right back in.
Block them by tapping the persons name on your screen and hitting the block tab. Folks like to call this sending the trolls to the “block party.” 11. Integrate a call to action into your scope; do not be obnoxious about this. Instead, find opportunities to inspire people to go to your website to get something or sign up for something that provides value. 12. Recap the points that you’ve made during your broadcast. Make it easy for folks to get the main actionable points of the broadcast.
6. Interact with people throughout the duration of your scope. Be mindful about answering questions, acknowledging comments and welcoming new viewers. The seasoning that makes Periscope so yummy is engagement. Without engagement, you might as well go back to Snap chat. 7. Ask new viewers to say a fun word (like Amazing!) so you can acknowledge them in a special way. Give extra special love to new viewers of your scope and ask your scope “regulars” to welcome the new viewers. This is a cool way to engage and have fun. This is an important part of building an engaged and loyal community. 8. Watch the positioning of your face during your broadcast. Stay in the top portion of the screen. Also be mindful of the space that comments will take on your screen and position yourself accordingly. 9. Be mindful of where you vision is focused when broadcasting. A best practice is to look directly at the camera hole at the top of your mobile device as much as you can.
13. Thank people for watching your broadcast. This shows your appreciation for their time and participation! 14. Tell folks when you’ll be back on Periscope broadcasting and let them know what to expect. This is a good time to remind folks to follow you by tapping the little person on the right of your screen. 15. Remind people again to follow you if they want notifications After the Broadcast 1. Capture the analytics that appear on your smart phone or tablet right after you end your broadcast. Be quick because the information will disappear forever (verified on July 25, 2025) 2. Save your scopes and screen shots of the analytics in a special folder on Google Drive, Drop-Box or another cloud storage solution. This will help you keep up with your scopes and the baseline analytics.

Pay attention to the number of people who watched your scope live, the number who watched the replay and the times of day or night that you get the best viewership (people and hearts). 4. Consider repurposing your scope by uploading it to FaceBook, YouTube and your website or blog. You may need to edit before uploading, so be mindful 5. Go on over to Katch.me and send a tweet to folks who gave you lots of hearts. If your number of viewers is relatively small, assign someone to thank everyone who viewed your scope via Twitter. 6. Get the link for your broadcast from your Twitter feed (or the replay) and remind your communities on other social networks to watch the replay within 24 hours. Schedule this using a tool like Hootsuite, Buffer or Sprout Social. Be a Power Viewer, Learn and Serve then Network 1. Say “hello” when you join someone’s scope. This is a great way to show love to the broadcaster and increase your visibility. 2. Be a scribe during a broadcast by taking notes for the broadcaster. Write down major points, websites that are referenced and ‘ah ha’ moments. This is a great way to be of service while increasing your visibility.

Marketing that fits your small business. Are you willing to be seen as an expert in your field? It’s by being willing to be seen as an expert that helps others view you as such. Set up something that lets people see you as an expert, a blog, regular, informative brochures, a meeting. Be willing to do it for a year, consistently, because consistency is key. For me, it was due to my willingness to be an expert that I developed greater expertise in my industry, and automatically, people began to see me as one. Create a positive feedback cycle; forums and platforms like LinkedIn are great ways to speak to others. Search for forums, join meetings with others in your field, or create a FaceBook wall. Empowered Life By Suzi Petrozzi We’ve all disempower ourselves at times. Sometimes we are aware and catch ourselves and other times we don’t, and end up complicating our life. The most important step in living a more empowered life is to be honest with ourselves about how we disempower ourselves in our relationships, work, health, family or business and other areas of life. This is like shining light on what is there and deciding what needs to be done with it. It’s the most important step in living a more empowered life. So here are 5 main ways in which you can life a more empowered life: 1. Listen to your inner voice around your needs. We attend to so many other needs including kids, family, work, food, school and the rest. But at what point do you remember to put on the oxygen mask on yourself first? It doesn’t. Nothing is going to fall apart. If anything, when we hold that space to come back into our bodies, to really listen and hear what it is that we need, we validate what is going on for us and allow emotions such as stress or anger to move in. Hold space for what your needs are by taking time out to just be with yourself 2. Take responsibility for what you need to do; and take responsibility for what you don’t need to do. For example, saying no to someone instead of yes and then becoming resentful and blaming that person for extra stress in your life is not taking responsibility for your needs. Maybe you’ve been invited to a friend’s party that you don’t feel like going to but you don’t want to disappoint them. Well, remember that you disempower yourself by not honoring what

Invest in Number 1—Yourself. This could be in terms of time, energy or even financially. Maybe you’ve been thinking about a holiday for a long time or weekend away with your girlfriends but you keep putting it off because there doesn’t seem to be any time or you fell guilty leaving your family behind. There never will be time until you say yes to yourself and your needs. The more you think that you don’t have the time to do something special for yourself the busier things will get. Ask the question; what is the cost of you not investing in yourself? Be honest and then plan to do one small thing for yourself. When you invest in yourself other people start to treat you differently. Refusing to get in on the Blame Game or Gossip. This doesn’t serve anyone. Only talk about someone in context of a problem if you are going to problem-solve the situation. I have seen such huge turn-around in my clients when they take an oath to move on from this kind of energy drain. If there are certain people in your life that try and pull you into these conversations, it’s time to put boundaries in place such as spending less time with them, changing topics when they start to gossip or simply tell them you don’t feel comfortable talking about someone who’s not present.
5. Take regular time out to learn about yourself so you can keep up-leveling in life. It’s all about learning to step more into your potential and put that potential to great use. Abusive Behavior in Relationships
Realize that they are in an abusive relationship, and being confronted with that fact can sometimes be frightening and confusing.
By Norva Semoy Abiona According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.K. Office of National Statistics, at least one in four women experience domestic abuse, also known as relationship abuse, in their lifetime. Many of these victims will experience it at least four times. An abusive relationship does not just refer to one spouse being violent towards the other. No, besides physical abuse other types of abuse are emotional/psychological, sexual, spiritual, verbal, financial/material, stalking, digital, abuse of power and coercive control. Under each t6ype of abuse there are different methods of abuse used. For example, these may include hitting, spitting, belittling, humiliating, isolating, manipulation, being overly possessive and controlling a victim. Once a spouse is being disrespected or devalued or having their human rights and liberty undermined, they are in an abusive relationship.
With October being dedicated to Domestic Violence Awareness let me share with you some behavior that can point to an individual being in an abusive relationship or marriage. Many times you hear married people say that their marriage is good, apart from the occasional conflict or disagreement, which all couples have. However, it could well be that some reactions or indeed the way one spouse treats the other could be slightly or even severely abusive. Some people may not
There are times that a spouse might not feel well enough to engage in sexual intercourse, but their partner may demand that she fulfills his needs. That is a form of abuse. On the other hand, a spouse who withholds sex from his or her spouse with no valid health reason for doing so is also being abusive. This is termed sexual neglect and often times the abuser may be getting their sexual pleasure from another source. Then there is psychological violence. When a spouse has a habit of criticizing their partner often, or contradicting whatever he or she says, that is a form of abuse too. They may be acting in a way that either makes their spouse fell less independent, or make them more inclined to approve of whatever they say, even if they do not agree. Furthermore, if a spouse is being ridiculed or embarrassed in front of friends, relatives or anyone for that matter, or is made to feel insulted or incapable of doing something, these are also types of abuse.

EMPOWERMENT If you think you may have seen any of the behaviors outlined above exhibited in your relationship then it is important that change takes place, otherwise the perpetual cycle may continue or the relationship may come to an end. If you are the abusive spouse then you should consider getting professional support like attending an anger management course. You can also read books on the subject matter of find lots of resources online. The sooner you get help, the great chances you have of creating a positive environment for you and your spouse. If however, it is your spouse who is being abusive then let them know how their actions make you feel. Give them a chance to seek help and support. Within a month or so you should be able to tell if your spouse is interested in getting help or in making changes for the good of the relationship. You do not have to force them and you should not just take their word for it especially if their actions do not back up what they
said. That being the case, you should start working on your own self-confidence and possibly start making decisions to come out of that toxic environment. Finding My Joy and Passion Again By Pia King, MSW, CVBC Whatever you are looking for is looking for you… I just love this saying now, as it took me a while to understand it and figure out what it really meant. Whatever you are looking for is looking for you will resonate differently for everyone, but it holds true for each of us. Just think back to when you were a child and your teacher, parent or another source figure asked you want you wanted to be when you grew up. What was that? How did it make you feel to want to be that? Did you want to be the “traditional” doctor, dentist, banker, lawyer, fire women/man, police women/man; teach; an astronaut, or the President of the United States? Did you become what you said you wanted to be as a child?
I can clearly remember wanting to be a veterinary and a hair stylist. I loved animals, particularly cats and dogs and loved styling my doll babies, my mom and sister’s hair. I don’t know if I knew it then but, being around my pets and doing hair was very soothing to me. I was in my own world where I could create all types of exotic hair styles, play in makeup and yes even dress up my Kimpo and Lady Lip my cats. As I grew older and stepped out of my safe space into the grown up world, other people’s realities took over. I will admit that my formative years
of school were pretty interesting and the exposure to many different cultures and geographical places excited me. The kids I went to school with had what I thought at the time really far out and interesting parents. This was my first exposure to field trips that took us to the mountains of West Virginia, the beaches in the Caribbean and Broadway plays in New York City. This was a little different from my family vacations where our we shared bonding time or going to see other family members along the east coast or the islands. Now I was spending time with other kids that didn’t look like me, ate different foods, wore different clothes, spoke other languages and even danced differently. Now, how was I going to take care of animals or be a famous hair stylist and travel the world? In college I found yet another interest that was in the field of communications, television and radio. Yes, I was going to be the next Oprah Winfrey the talk show host extraordinaire. A very competitive field at the time and finding a job was, well can I just say more challenging than I imagined and very stressful. What was I going to do now? Bills don’t get paid by wishful thinking. Eventually I ended up in a government position and returned to school to obtain a masters degree in social work. Not so bad, after all, I did enjoy working with people and children. Seventeen years under my belt in public service in child welfare, my soul began to cry out “this is not what I want to do, it’s hard, sad, painful and draining!”.
Now don’t get me wrong, social work is not for the faint of heart, a rewarding career, but it no longer October 2015 Amazing Women 41
EMPOWERMENT felt good. I wanted to help people move from bad to good, help put their lives back together or create new lives for themselves and their families. Dealing with the families that were caught in government and legal systems took a toll on my overall health and well being. I had to get out and find my joy and passion again. But how to do that was the major question. Three years ago I sat down with my husband and said “honey, we have to talk”. Yes, the dreaded honey we have to talk discussion. However, I think he knew what was coming. He knew that my health was in jeopardy, I wasn’t happy doing what I was doing and I was not present in our home life because I was always tired and didn’t feel good. He asked me two things: What do you want to do and how can I help? My heart did a triple flip and I felt so free. My husband an entrepreneur in his own right, clearly understood where I was coming from. He retired from law enforcement years ago because of the stress and devastation that he witnessed day in and day out. He told me “honey, you have to get your passion and joy back and this time—don’t let anything get in your way.” Together we created a vision board of what we both wanted together, developed a plan of action, and implemented a budget plan since I was going to leave my job. It didn’t happen overnight, and there were some bumps along the way. However, my energy changed, my vibration was stronger and I felt the sides of my mouth start going in an upward motion. Was that a smile returning to my face? I started to feel better because now I was creating my vision for myself, one I held as a kid, full of choices and “I can do that.” Today I can say that I found my way back to radio and television as the executive producer and talk show host; a published author and speaker; owner of a holistic psychotherapy practice in the Washington DC area and a global health and wellness retreat business where we travel the world helping women and men discover their true gifts and passions. Life just gets better and
better when you take the time to sit and be still! Step out of all the noise that is around you and declutter your physical and mental space.
Once I turned off the noise and de-cluttered I was able to search for my joy and passion and it was searching for me. The union was bliss and each day a new bud blossoms filled with more adventures, possibilities, opportunities, light and love. So I leave you with this, each of us have gifts and talents that may have been left behind or forgotten. Life may have steered you down another road or you received negative feedback or input from someone that didn’t make their dreams come true. What You Believe, Brings What You Wish By Lorena Douglas Does it truly matter? Yes. Negativity draws in negative things. Your life fills the anticipations you embrace. Will your anticipation be damaging messages or will you select to live out the favorable ones and be happy, successful and free?
Perpetually berate you? Tell them to quit. Do you accept statements from other people as real, or talk to yourself in a patronizing manner? Confident individuals more easily dismiss abrasive insults from those distant contacts, but when uttered from close family, it becomes difficult to ignore. It is even harder to keep from accepting their negative opinions of us as reality. The hardest battle of all is when you tell these negative messages to yourself. Are you your own worst critic?
It takes an intentional determination to ignore or overwrite damaging messages, and a deliberate posture to take on a full life. It is not simple, but with power and a positive attitude, you will do it. The life you aspire to harvest depends on it. A self-fulfilling prophecy is where a belief (frequently false) is accepted as reality and in saying and thinking, it becomes true. We’re all living out self-fulfilling prophecies, as whatever your perception of reality, whatever ideas you accept as true, will lead you. You draw in negative things by centering on the negative— that is a part of the law of attraction.
Where do you discover the positive message, and when you find them do you hold on to them? Where do you discover the positive messages and do you still hold on to the damaging ones? Observe the term “self-fulfilling” one’s prophecy. Whose prophecy are you truly fulfilling, are you believing fake messages about yourself and producing your own misery?
Perhaps the following statements sound familiar to you: “you’re stupid”, “you’ll never amount to anything,” you can’t come through,” “how could you even think that you could succeed, you ought to have known better,” why did you even try,” “what an embarrassment you are,”… useless, unintelligent, incompetent, a failure, on and on. These statements cut deep wounds into your spirit. It takes intentional, direct aim to replace these thoughts with favorable truths. A favorable outlook makes the difference between being unsuccessful and successful. In spite of obstacles, our needs determine our designated success and keep us moving. Successful individuals trust in themselves and their aspirations and persevere. They dwell on favorable thoughts and draw in the reality they believe that they are worthy and deserving of. If we are determined, we will discover a way to make it occur because we believe that we will be able to succeed. If you trust that you cannot, you will not. There is always a way. It might be hard, might be different than you had done before,

The Law of Attraction rules thoughts and prayers. To trust that everything works for our greatest good, we have to trust in universal prayer that works through us and utilizes our experiences to enlarge our awareness.
In addition, this is what prayer is all about. Actually, anything asked in prayer with a spirit of trust and belief is more likely to be accomplished. The Law of Faith is a double-edged sword as it may bring either success or failure. However, prayer is a favorable tool. Prayer provides the individual what he asks. Once you really believe in prayer and ask for particular things, it will be given in reply. An excellent tool connects us to the universe. The universe gives an individual more of what he or she is seeking.
Prayer is something individuals do to ask for or give thanks for a want or a sought after or favorable change. There are many different ways to pray, but they all involve thinking of what you require. Individuals utilizing the Law of Faith are practicing the same principle; they are thinking of a want, or a sought after outcome in a way they trust will give them the best chance of experiencing it. There are many different ways to view the process of turning our ideas into realities, or experiencing them in the tangible world, but they all involve thinking about what you wish.
The Law of Faith is true for everyone. This Law is universal, as it doesn’t care who you are or what faith you subscribe to. It’s as true and universal as the Law of Gravity. It is commonly assumed that we think with our brains, but the Law of Faith asserts that our thinking and trusting stems from our hearts and not from our brains. The Law of Believing is not only favorable thinking but also likewise faith, confidence and conviction the ultimate goal is centering the thoughts toward spiritual ideals. The Law of Faith states that if an individual centers on favorable things, they will draw great things into their life. If they center on damaging things, then they’re likely to perpetuate trouble. This is the root of the Law. As humans, we like to center our ideas on great things. That is why we believe and trust in prayers and miracles. The most adept way to pray effectively is to pray with an affirmative attitude. A mighty prayer is one of appreciation, which again is a favorable thought.

Are you present in this very moment? Do you feel like you are living your best life? Ask yourself these simple questions and then check in with your heart, listen to your soul and find out whether you truly are living your best life! After teaching middle and high school choir and guitar for more than 25 years, I found myself sitting in front of my students one day, doing what I had always done, but not being present while I did it! I was playing the tenor line on the piano, singing a line out to the alto section, writing a pass for a student to go to the restroom… and all the while, I was thinking about writing songs, traveling to music festivals around the country, recording in Nashville and being a full time singer-songwriter. The thing is, I loved kids, was excited about inspiring them to live their best lives, was passionate about creating top level performing choirs, truly believed in modeling high expectations and always felt like I was living my true purpose as a teacher. I was living an inspired life… until one day I wasn’t! It had slowly crept up on me but suddenly it had become apparent that I no longer felt passionate about my calling as a teacher in one classroom. I was convinced that it was time to shift out of
One of the things that I was having a hard time wrapping my head around was how I could bring my dreams to life while still living in the present? How could I bring my desired future into my current situation without leaving my present to get there? As I continued to feel that this shift was absolutely what was supposed to happen in my life, I remembered one of the quotes I had shared with my students through the years: Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness concerning all acts of initiative (and creation). There is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans; that the moment one definitely commits oneself then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now ~ Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
So begin it I did! I decided to take some steps toward my shift by writing down all the things I was currently grateful for in my life and penning my intentions for what I would like to be grateful for in my future. My friend MK Mueller, author of the book “8 to Great” had written about how important it is to not run from something you aren’t interested in doing anymore, but to run to your dreams. EMPOWERMENT I wanted to remain grateful for the job I had and the difference my students and I were making in each other’s lives as well as in the lives of people in our community. I wanted to continue to feel gratitude for all of the things that were good about the present, while also trying to bring about the change I desired. So, as I imagined my future and continued to grow my gratitude for my present, I took a step each day toward my dream. One day, I cleaned out my closet and took all of the East High t-shirts, sweatshirts and sweatpants I had collected over the years and put them in two big bags. I thought about all the good memories wearing all of these items, and while feeling grateful for the past, I packed them away imagining that I would not need them anymore in my new career. I kept one or two things for nostalgia and then imagined donating the bag of clothing to the new choir director, who would be replacing me at my school. I pictured her wearing some of the clothes and donating others to her new choir students. Then, I began to imagine how great it would feel to be able to wake up and spend my mornings reading and writing and playing my guitar. I had been waking up at 5 AM for so long, racing into a day where I would leave my house at 6:30 AM and would not have a moment alone until my teaching day was over. The thought of sitting in a quiet space in the morning and spending time thinking and dreaming and writing and just being, was making me feel huge doses of happiness, even if it was just my “imaginary world” at the time. When I used my imagination as a tool for helping me FEEL in the present what it would be like in that new reality, the vision of that reality became clearer with every waking day. I felt it as thought it was already real. As time passed, I began to add more and more stories to my imaginative role-play. I started using some of the techniques I learned from author MK Mueller at her 8 to Great workshop I attended with my sister Carol in Los Angeles that year. MK was one of the people who taught me that if you talk about your dreams as though they are
already part of your present, you will help them materialize more rapidly. So, my little sister Carol and I began having phone conversations where we would ask each other how it felt now that our dreams had come true. She would say to me “So how does it feel Janie, now that you are a Grammy winning artist?” And I would ask her, “So, how does it feel Carol, to be the number one selling Real Estate Agent in Silicon Valley?” It is just a few years later now, and Carol is in the top percentile for her home sales in the Bay Area of California and I am in Nashville writing, recording and performing with Grammy winning artists. Imagination is more important than knowledge. ~Albert Einstein
The power of imagination is underestimated. In order to reach higher levels of consciousness, we need to remember Einstein’s quote “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” It isn’t as though he was saying that we should daydream our way through life. I think he was just saying that all the knowledge in the world isn’t necessarily what is going to make our dreams come true. We need to use our imagination in the present to bring our future dreams alive! As I write this article, I am two days away from releasing my new Nashville recorded album. It is my sixth solo CD and my second produced since retiring early from East Anchorage High School. I am now a full time artist ~ singer/songwriter ~ author ~ speaker. What’s Love Got To Do With It
Economic where the abuser will control the finances or cause their partner to go into debt or other financial legal trouble.
Sexual where the abuser will sexually assault their partner, but can also sexually humiliate, insult, and berate them as well.
Spiritually, where the abuser will use the partner’s religious beliefs and guilt to control and manipulate their partner.
By Robyn C. Hill, LPCC When working with a women involved in a domestic violence relationship, one of the hardest things to discuss is the concept of Love. That is because, for the Survivor, while in the midst of the relationship and even after she may get free, she may perceive that her partner does love her. That is because the concept of love is very subjective and has a lot to do with how we each understand, express, and receive love. As a part of her support system, it is better to not argue the issue of love, but rather to address partner abuse from an issue of power, control and safety. In America, 20 people per minute are being physically attacked in a domestic violence relationship, according to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Additionally, according to the Safe Horizons website, “1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime.” They go on to give a clear and concise definition of what entails domestic violence, which is “a pattern of behavior used to establish power and control over another person through fear and intimidation, often including the threat or use of violence.” www.safehorizons.org
Understanding this definition is very important to truly understanding domestic violence. This behavior is a pattern, not a one-time mistake, in order to maintain power and control. These behaviors are often exhibited through physical abuse, but it does not always have to be. Some other forms of abuse are: Emotional where the abuser might berate, criticize, name call, guilt trip, or insult or manipulate the partner.
Psychological where the abuser might install fear, use intimidation, threaten to harm self or family, or isolate the partner from their friends and family.
Consistent repetitions of these behaviors will constitute a domestic violence relationship. Unfortunately, by the time the pattern develops it has developed into a codependent relationship that is difficult to escape from. When the partner does not to get free, trying to do so safely now becomes the issue. Getting free from a domestic violence relationship often requires legal, mental health, and social services support along with lots of support of their loved ones. Therefore, it is important to try to be as preventative as possible through education. Along with learning about abuse, it is important to try to understand some of the warning signs of an abuser. Here are a few highlighted from a list found on Abuseintervention.org: Has a record or history of domestic violence Dual personality (Jekyll an Hyde), i.e. charming in public, aggressive in private

EMPOWERMENT Blames you for his/her problems Needs to constantly know your whereabouts; expects to spend all of your free time with him/her Feels he/she has a right to dictate your behaviors, privileges, responses or opinions Becomes angry when you have a different opinion than he/she does or don’t take his/ her advice Demonstrates ownership of you or extreme possessiveness; says things like “I can’t live without you” or “You are my whole world” Has no regard for your physical or mental health Shows jealousy toward your children, family, friends, or job Pressures you to live together or get married before you are ready Criticizes y our appearance, weight, clothes, etc. Blames all past relationship problems on the ex-partner Angers easily

The long term effects of a domestic violence relationship on the individual can be damaging. By the time that they come to my office, they exhibit similar symptoms of a veteran that has returned from war. That is because they too have lived through a trauma; their home was like a warzone never knowing when the next battle was going to spark. And the most confusing part for the women is the issue of love. “But he said he loved me…” And my reply is always the same. October 2015 Amazing Women 49

Take the Fright Out of Life By Boni Oian Do you want to know what’s really scary? Coming into this life with a purpose, knowing you will complete it and not knowing how to do that or when it will happen. Do you know which is scarier, living your purpose or not completing your purpose? Stepping out into the spot light makes you take off your mask, set yourself up as a target and makes you completely vulnerable or naked to the eyes of others.
So who wants to do that? Yet not completing your purpose would be even worse. Not completing your purpose would mean going back on your promise that got you here. It would also mean you would be letting down all those that were counting on you to do your part or job. Talk about a rock and hard place! We go through different stages in our life and knowing what stage we are in allows us to better complete that stage before going on to the next. What most people do is get too far ahead of themselves. Let me rephrase that. Most people let their head get to far out in front of their feet. When their head is two years or more ahead of their feet, one of two things happen:
1) They don’t see what is in front of them and they trip or miss opportunities 2) They get overwhelmed about what it’s going to take to get their feet to catch up that they can’t get out of bed in the morning Now I’m not saying don’t have goal or long term plans. It’s important to know where you are going. So have a rough draft of what you want your life or business to look like. You can fill in the details as you go along. The basics won’t change. You may want to work or live with people, travel, own a home, drive a car, have a family or build an empire. The details may expand your vision, you may want to work and live with creative, energetic, heart centered entrepreneurs, travel the world in luxury, own a mansion or a castle, drive a red Ferrari, have 3 brilliant, healthy, happy children with loving extended family worldwide, and have your purpose touch the lives of everyone on the planet in a good way. Back to the different stages of unfolding your life plan. Before embarking on this journey, let’s decide where we are going. Knowing your purpose would help but it’s not essential. Just knowing what you like to do, what your talents are, where you like to spend your time, what brings you joy and knowing your distractions would be enough to get started. Let’s call this Stage 1 – taking inventory. Stage 2 would be acquiring the knowledge, the relationships, and the determination to see your purpose through. Even though this is a short list, most people spend most of their lives pulling this all together. Stage 3 is stepping out. You are always ready and never ready at the same time for this stage. You have acquired as much knowledge as you can from books and other peoples experiences and now it’s time for our own experiences to move you into your true knowing. October 2015 Amazing Women 51
LIFESTYLE Stage 4 is the stage some people call failure. What it really is, is when reality meets the road. Now you find out if the knowledge and skills you have is the knowledge and skills that will get you to your destination. Will it get you the relationships and lifestyle that you set out to create? This can be a time of great clarity, correction, adjustment and realization on your part. Skipping this stage and moving into giving up is failure. Completing this stage gets you back on track. You don’t have to start over or return to go, you only have to take what you learned, move back to the center of the road, refresh your list of your vision and continue on to your destination. Direction, knowledge, experience, knowing then comes correction and back to the compass for direction. This question helps, ‘Is what I’m doing today getting me closer, or farther away, from living my purpose?’
Do you know most people spend more time making their grocery list then listing what is important in their life? Next time you make a grocery list, make a second list for whichever stage you are going into so you’ll know what to pick up and what to leave behind when you get there. Walk Your Way to Health By Consuelo Meux, PhD. It’s important for every professional business women to take responsibility to maintain a healthy lifestyle. If you work primarily no the Internet, exercising might not be on the top of your daily list, however, no one can do what’s necessary for your health except you. One of the simplest ways to get a good workout, burn calories, and get your heart rate up is to walk. Walking is easy, cheap, accessible to almost everybody, and makes you feel good. Walking even helps you with weight loss and keeps you feeling younger. Of course, check with your medical provider before starting any exercise program.
Following six months of low-impact exercise like walking. Even pre-diabetic, sedentary adults were found to improve their sensitivity to insulin by 59% and their ability to produce insulin by 31% in as little as seven days with a one hour daily walking program. These studies give examples of the many benefits of walking as an exercise for health. But even everyday results are impressive. Walkers are more energized, rest better, and sleep more soundly. The body when active provides natural antioxidants, lubricants, and nutrients for the joints, muscles, and bones which is important for proper bone density as we age. Speaking of aging, you might not realize walking helps to keep oxygen flowering to the brain, providing it with substances which improve memory, attention, and problem solving abilities.
Why Walking Works Walking helps build muscle, even while you lose weight. You can lose weight simply by eating less calories; without exercise, you also lose muscle tone along with the weight. A University of Pittsburgh study compared the results of 64 overweight and obese participants losing weight, with or without adding exercise.
Both sets of dieters followed a low-fat eating plan cutting 500—1000 calories a day. One group did moderate exercise 45 minutes a day, three to four times a week. After four months both groups lost up to 45 pounds on average. But the dieters who didn’t exercise also lost about three times more lean body mass and muscle while the dieters who exercised improved their fat burning ability twice as much and burned nearly 40% more fat than the non exercisers (Amati, et al., 2008). Another study from the university of North Carolina at Chapel Hill found that arthritis sufferers experienced 25% less pain and 15% less stiffness
With these great benefits, walking should be high on your list as a daily activity. However, just plain walking at a pace to which you’re accustomed is not going to give the benefits you need. It’s easy to just get out for a stroll. It’s walking which pushes you past your comfort zone into levels which challenges your body that matters.
Walking That Matters Start where you’re at and move up from there. If regular exercise has not been a part of your agenda, start slowly. A short 10 minute walk might be all you can handle at first. Remember, something is better than nothing. Take a short walk around October 2015 Amazing Women 54
LIFESTYLE the block or up and down the neighborhood. But don’t stay at this level as the body gets accustomed to a certain activity.
Now you need to get ready to start walking
If you never get past what you feel comfortable doing, you won’t see the scale moving in the direction you want it to go. Push yourself a bit each day.
Before starting, get a good pair of walking shoes. Walking shoes are specially designed to support the heal-to-toe motion of walking. These shoes will have a beveled or rounded heel, similar to the shape of your foot to allow you to roll smoothly through each step and cushion your heel. These shoes bend in the forefoot, right behind the ball of the foot and stabilize the fee for a smoother stride and reduced risk of injury.
Different Ways to Walk
The type of walking you do will depend on your health. You might start with the short, slower walk I mentioned earlier. Once you do this, be ready to increase the intensity, distance and add other supports to make your workout more effective. Interval walking is when you maintain a high intensity speed for a period of time. You walk fast so you can only talk in brief phrases. You can do a burst of high energy walking for a few minutes, slow down, returning to the burst walking. Repeat this type of interval walking for 10-30 minutes. Long walks help with endurance and keep your calorie burn going for over seven hours after you finish exercising. These walks will normally be longer and slower. Speed walks are shorter, but more intense throughout the walk. You’ll walk like you’re trying to get somewhere fast, taking long strides and moving at a consistent fast pace which leaves you close to breathless. This is the best type of walk to help burn belly fat. A recovery walk is the type you can do every day. This is more than a stroll, but not very brisk. Do these in-between the days when you use the interval walk or speed walks to keep burning calories without over exerting yourself. Doing a variety of walking speeds while you select a different route over the course of a week will keep you motivated.
Essential Walking Equipment
Another reason to get a good pair of walking shoes is because your fee are unique. You have your own size, foot shape and way of moving. Go to a sports store or other specialty shoe store where they can analyze your foot to fit you with the correct shoe. The right type of sock is another important tool for safe walking. Socks help keep feet cool, dry and comfortable. Some have extra padding in the heel and ball to cushion the foot. This also protects against bumps, bruises and blisters. Try walking shoes on with your socks to ensure a proper fit. Almost 60% of women report some type of breast pain while exercising. A properly fitting sports bra can often help. These bras are designed to sop the motion of the breast in all directions, not just up and down, giving support and comfort. To find the best sports bra, try on several styles as each has different features. The bra should be form fitting and supportive, without pinching or squeezing. LIFESTYLE Three things to do to start walking properly are to warm-up, cool-down, and stretch. To warm up, start walking slowly for the first 5 minutes to gradually raise your heart rate, send blood to the muscles, and ramp up respiration. It also increases body temperature and starts burning calories.
As body temperature increases so does your metabolic rate. You increase circulation, blood flow, and range of motion to protect yourself rom injury. Then move into the type of walking routine you planned. While walking, stand tall. This makes you feel better while helping to increase your speed. Bend your arms at a 90 degree angle to swing them at your sides. This also increases speed. Keep your elbows and hands close to your sides. Practice until you can bring the hand all the way back to just past your hip swinging the hand forward to about chest height. These are the essential pieces of equipment needed to make walking safe and healthy. You can add a pedometer to measure your steps, an MP3 player for music or motivational talks while you walk and/or a heart rate monitor to measure heart rate. You can also use weights of 1 to 5 pounds to help with fat burning. While all of these help, none are essential to get going.
Exert yourself, but don’t overdo. Depending on your health, start with a few steps, building up to a minimum of 30 minutes at least four days a week. At the end of your walking session, cool down by slowing the pace to an easy intensity for about 5 minutes to prevent the blood from pooling in your legs, which can cause dizziness or nausea. It also helps remove lactate build up in the muscles so you won’t feel as fatigued.
After the cool down, end with stretching while your muscles and joints are warm and flexible. This helps to maintain a good range of motion in the joints. Find a set of different types of stretches for the whole body. Do each stretch for about 10 seconds, release and repeat, working up to 30 seconds. An Interview with Comedian Sinbad
Appearances in hit movies like “Jingle All The Way” playing opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger, House Guest staring the late Phil Hartman. You’ve seen him everywhere! I watched him on Oprah—he’s that bag of chips and then some! So help me in welcoming none other than the comedian and entertainer extraordinaire Sinbad. Yes, ‘cause he’s bad. Hey Hey—Sinbad, how are you doing? Sinbad: What a way…. How you doing girl?
Raven: Welcome everyone to the Amazing Women and Men of Power, world’s leading positive programming network. I’m so excited! You all know him as being hilarious. His name is Sinbad. He’s an actor and comedian, and as you know, arrived on the comedy scene with a “hit ‘em in the face” style of comedy. He has kept audiences laughing over the last two decades. He truly admits that he doesn’t know any jokes except for the ones that his dad told him back in the day. The basis of his humor comes from everyone he’s met, everything he’s seen and everything he’s done. Many of you don’t know, but Sinbad is also a great singer! He has a fantastic band which we will hear more about in a bit. I’ve seen him and I was shocked. I’m going, goodness, he is so dynamic. His entire band is which includes his daughter. Ranked by Comedy Central as one of the top 100 standup comedians of all time, Sinbad has built a large following by taking all his painful trials and embarrassing tribulations of day-to-day life and throwing them back in your face and causing an uproar of comedic hysteria.
Raven: I’m doing well my friend. It’s good to see you. You really rock the house all the way whether you're singing or performing comedy. I have to tell you, when Colleen took me to see your band, I was floored. I didn’t know you had all that in you! Sinbad: You know, when I started music I was the drummer. When I was growing up, I thought I was going be, well I had ADHA, which we didn’t know what that was back then. So I had a million things, I thought I was going to be. I thought of music because music was attainable. You know, there was no HBO yet. Raven: That’s right! Sinbad: There was no way to get to LA. And my voice is the weakest of probably all the people we know. You know what I do—I give it all I’ve got. I don’t have a great voice, but thank God my daughter does because she has her own thing and her own band. It was my daughter and son that got me back into music. Her time is coming. People just need to get over the fact that she’s my daughter. What I find funny in this business is the children of entertainers are not allowed to be entertainers. Raven: Really?

ENTERTAINMENT Sinbad: It’s like people get mad at them. Really, what else would they be? Raven: That’s what they have learned, being kids of entertainers. Sinbad: I mean, what else? You wouldn’t be mad if a man was a plumber and his son became a plumber. It’s crazy. Raven: It really is! Sinbad: But in this business, folks act like your kids have no right to want to entertain. Like it’s not stuff for them.
Raven: God blessed me with this platform and that’s what it’s all about. Paying it forward just like you’re paying it forward to us today. Gifting us with this great interview. So absolutely, anything I can do—I’m here! Tell me Sinbad, we touched upon giving it all you’ve got and you know, I teach people to don’t wait to be great, do it now. That’s the same message isn’t it. Giving it all you got and just going for it. Sinbad: You don’t know how long you’re going to be on this earth, we don’t live forever so. Raven: that’s for sure!
Raven: Your daughter is extremely talented. She always has a spot here at the Amazing Women of Power. Tell her if she ever wants her own radio show where she can sing and talk about herself, I’ve got the hookup—it’s my station! We will make it happen for her, okay?
Sinbad: There are two points you are going to expect. When you are young and you think you’ve got forever, but I was blessed. I’m was lucky to be growing up in that generation with great grandparents with those crazy sayings that didn’t make any sense back then, but they do now. My Dad was all about “don’t waste the time you’ve been given.” Sometimes I would get mad. I wasn’t sure what he was talking about but it was not about having fun. You have to have fun every step of the way. As a matter of fact, I think it’s so important to have fun because it might not happen.
Sinbad: You know, I’m going to hold you to that one. Raven: I’m very serious. I am looking for great guests. Absolutely. We’ll talk offline about it because I’m serious! Sinbad: All Right!
Raven: I think that it’s really important that you touched on that because so many times we are moving forward in life and we look like we’re just miserable

ENTERTAINMENT Sinbad: Even our young people are looking miserable. They thought that at some point there’s a certain amount of money or there’s a certain level or certain show that will make them happy. Okay, this is it! This is my happiness. The main thing I learned early, the most important thing I learned early was if you’re not happy before you are successful, you will never be happy after success.
We really don’t know what success entails. That’s a word—Success is a word. We don’t really know what it means. I’ll give you an example. Lebron James is an example. I don’t know what the kid had, I don’t know what God gave him, he’s just got something special. There’s something more there than ability. He came from the hood like everyone else, yet he has something built into him. He’s going to be alright.
Raven: That’s a good rule to live by Sinbad.
I’d like to be able to take his brain apart and see what makes him Lebron. He has ability, but it’s the part of your head that keeps you right, that keeps handling the situation.
Sinbad: You must find happiness early in life because if you don’t have it early, it’s likely never coming.
Raven: Absolutely Raven: That’s huge, it’s almost like you’re getting ready to get ready. Just like many people say, if you want to make a million dollars and you want to make the big bucks and you are not preparing for that when you are young, when you get it, you’re not going to handle making it. We see it all the time. Performers, ball players, whatever, they make the money and they are not happy. They just throw it away.
Sinbad: Not everyone has that. Raven: No, they don’t. Speaking about handling situations. I recently caught a replay of Oprah Favorite shows and guess what—there you were. How was that experience? I always get to ask people that because talking about going for you greatness. Most people dream of Oprah interviewing them. My dream is to be blessed to have Oprah on my show one day. So tell me about your experience.
Sinbad: Oprah and I started about the same time. I was playing at a comedy club early in my career—1983—1984 called Zanies in Chicago. I was watching a daytime show called AM Chicago or something like that.
Sinbad: Well, it’s not because everyone is going to pay for hard work. You can prepare me to train. You can prepare me to play an instrument. No one prepares you for success because you don’t know what it is going to look like.
I’m watching this sister with big hair and people in chairs and was like “who is that woman?” I said wow, we kind of came to it at the same time and thought a lot of the same stuff.

ENTERTAINMENT Sinbad: The way I got on her show was pretty funny. One day I was talking trash about how Oprah and I are so much the same, just hoping to salute her in LA and someone hit me in the back. I turned around and it was her—Oprah! Raven: Oh my goodness! Sinbad: I said, look, I ain’t stepping back, and she put me on her show. Raven: Oh my, she must respect you to put you on her show. Sinbad: Along with my wife too.
I’m also proud when they didn’t listen. That is the key, knowing sometimes when to follow your own path even when your parents don’t believe in that path. Raven: I can understand that!
Sinbad: Since that time I’ve been on her show 17 times or so… Raven: We’ve covered giving it all you have. Being a comedian, an entertainer extraordinaire and a great father. I applaud you on doing such a great job in raising your kids because I’ve met them both and they have great manners—and your wife, Oh my— she’s adorable. That’s something to be proud of. You and your wife definitely need to pat each other on the back for a job well done. Congratulations Sinbad: We are proud of them. You could do a great job raising your children and yet the can go all sorts of directions—crazy like! I’m proud my kids have listened to both me and especially my wife.
Sinbad: They can see some pride and self respect. It’s not about being wrong. It’s about doing what you want to do even if you’re all wrong about the path as long as you adjust when needed. Sometimes, you don’t know how to turn left. Many people can’t turn left. That’s when I watch a lot of contestants on these new talent shows and I seem them crying, this is my last chance, then this isn’t for you. If this was your only chance, it’s not for you. You can’t consider anything your last chance. There’s always another chance, you have to keep working. Raven: I know. Everyone wants to have a miracle. Just let it happen now and they don’t see or they haven’t gone through what you and I and many other people have gone through. A lot, it didn’t just happen overnight Sinbad: No

ENTERTAINMENT Raven: Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t but you have to be ready for the long haul. Sinbad: Yes, if you’ve been dreaming about this, but you have done nothing to get there… and now you’re crying because you might be eliminated from the show. If you don’t know how to use the show, I don’t care if you’ve bene there one time. If you don’t know how to parlay this show into something, I swear the job is not for you. If I’ve given you nothing more, you are going to compete with women who have just got big boobies and no talent. It’s a whole new world for people Raven: You make me laugh Sinbad! You are absolutely right. I’m curious because all of our experts have had a different definition of what the word great means to them. What does “great” mean to you? Sinbad: These days I think the word is overused. They call everybody great. This person is great. This is great. Oh, this is great! This show is great. Some things look good but they’re not great. Greatness is when you s stand out to the point where it takes look this way. Know when something’s great? When other people look at it and agree, they stop and look at it! Raven: That’s a great description Sinbad. Sinbad: That’s when people with skills are like, wait, I can’t wait to see that person. Something so unique. I might now like the person but there’s something about...there’s work ethic, there’s commitment. Then I go, hey, I can respect that.
In my mind, that’s what great is. You demand my attention whether I want to look at you or not. Raven: I like that Sinbad. You demand. You’re demanding meaning the person you respect is demanding. Sinbad: Yes. You demand my attention and that’s what we do as entertainers. It’s not like I say I don’t care. You hear yourself say I don’t care if people don’t like that. That’s bull crap. We came out here to be liked. Everybody doesn’t like you, but some do—many do—or you are not doing any shows! I don’t care if people like me or not. I’m going to do my music. Then, you are in a room for yourself and there’s a lot of folks like that.

PTSD & Suicide By Reggie A. Lacina Just a thought, regarding Military Suicide, PTSD, Politics, Government injected medical values, the second leading cause of death in youth and young adults between the ages of 10 & 25 is suicide and taxes, these are my thoughts after recently hearing a radio program about how the US military has a higher suicide rate from returning soldiers than lost in combat warfare calling it the root cause of PTSD while the rest of society lives it equally in their own back yards at home since the war began in the Mideast. Additionally, the suicide rate among our young adults was released show a steady increase.
The good news is the wars of the past took more lives in a single day than over the past 15 years of war, meanwhile the PTSD phenomenon and climbing suicide rate observation is a by-product of socially corrupted values of the mainstream attempting to dictate and inject their values into what social dogma wants everyone to believe in. Being the by-product of parental suicide at age 5 and just like back in the medieval times when all civilizations were at continuous war to create societies of religious belief systems to govern the law of the one to many, PTSD is contrasted in everyone’s daily life equally at the threshold and tolerance to pain and the pleasure they seek in life.
So, where are we today? A very controversial observation when neither side is telling the truth between reality and actuality in its entirety and while both sides are piggy backing off each other’s success’s and drawbacks including those of previous administrations (politically speaking). Or was the spending on warfare necessary to create a new world order that holds everyone victim of governmental injected values separating even greater the philanthropist from the alchemist while dissolving the middle class and still making them pay for the debts of our nations decisions based on what it believes is best for everyone.
I went through this and turned my life around. Giving everyone credit where deserved, PTSD is not limited to just the soldiers returning from active duty and is not a justification for suicide because they could not get, receive or accept help because of fear, shame or guilt from some belief or ideology that caused them to give up. This is crazy, because I have lived with this threshold of the outcome from my parent’s actions which is no different that that of war and I have turned my life around. If you’re somewhere in between all of this because our social system does not recognize or teach, “that everyday life in the mainstream is just as brutal as a calculated war between countries.”

We must understand that it is just another conflict between governments injecting the difference of values between them over monetary and social beliefs and gains to perpetuate societies.

AMAZING MEN has overcame his 3rd-capitol economic rescission, 4th-marriage, 2nd-bankruptcy, DUI, foreclosure and the most recently when the doctor stated he was not going to live much longer than a few more years!!! This was in 2008… Reggie started a career in construction at 15 yrs. old as a laborer and is now one of 800 registered, Division of the State Architect Class-1 Building Inspectors to have passed the exam since 1997 as required by the California Education Code of 1933 for public safety. These are the same skills that have allowed him to become one of 3000 globally trained facilitators by the Demartini Institute in Houston Texas. The Power of Suggestion By Barclay Fisher
You have heard and seen hundreds, if not thousands, of these during your life. These statements were all recorded and stored in your sub-conscious mind. What is SUGGESTION? Suggestion is defined as: What you receive from an outside source. It is conveyed to you through your five senses and then stored in your sub-conscious. The job of the subconscious is to store all the information. The sub-conscious doesn’t care if the information is fact or fiction. Its job is to simply record everything.
Researchers say by the time we are 19-years old, 77% of all suggestions we have received are negative. Surely that cannot be true, right? Oh, but it is correct. Following are a few statements we have all heard either from our parents, teachers, and friends or have seen them written:
You never listen when I talk to you Close the door, were you born in a barn? You’re just like your father (mother, etc.) Children should be seen and not heard You are lazy You are impossible You’ll be the death of me You are always in a bad mood Why should I listen to you? You’re no good at all You just don’t think Where were you when the brains were passed out?
Let’s use a modern scenario so you can understand how the subconscious works. It’s like using your key board to record the information that comes through the five senses and putting it on a CD or DVD so everything can be retrieved. Like it or not you have been programmed. What you think, how you act, and who you are has become a part of you and is stored so that it drives you 24/7. Don’t forget you were born with unlimited potential! We are all programmed to think and act on the suggestions we have received. In addition, we all have used self-talk to reinforce what we have received in the form of Suggestions. “The Law of Repetition” means the more you hear a fact or fiction, the more you develop it. Some information in your brain is not repeated very much so it constitutes only a pathway in your brain, information repeated more often develops in the brain as a roadway. Other information used still more often becomes a highway. And then some information becomes major highways because they are used so much. Finally, some information becomes Interstate Highways and they have a great deal of value in all that we do. These Interstate Highways shape who we are and what we believe.

AMAZING MEN At each level, they are developed by how many times they are repeated. We download this information with self-talk. We all become what we think about most. You can find this truth in the Bible, As a Man Thinketh by James Allen, the Strangest Secret by Earl Nightingale and in many books by Og Mandino. You could have focused on the positive side, but since most of what you received from outside sources was negative, your belief system was programmed to hold you back.
Pick, you choose, you determine what you need to connect to greatness.
You began to associate with peers, who were mostly like you so they reinforced the negative talk. Therefore, your self-talk placed you on the Super Highway of doubt.
What you project on the outside is the direct reflection of your predominant thoughts and beliefs. So by changing your thoughts, you change your reality. Your thoughts manifest through the written word, the spoken word and finally your actions.
Who robbed you of your potential? Was it your mom, y our dad, y our friends, or could it have been you? Remember, you were born with unlimited potential. As you privately repeated what others said to you, you repeated it to yourself ten times more than what you said out loud to others. Self-Talk has a major role in your programming and in all that you do. Remember, SUGGESTION is what you receive from an outside source. SELF SUGGESTION is what you say to yourself. It is inter communication. You must decide what selfsuggestion you are going to use to replace the negative language that is not serving your desire for success. You get to pick positives to take the place of the negative self-talk that is not working. You do this first by listening to your self-talk and then replacing the negatives with positive affirmations. You become what you think! An AFFIRMATION is a positive thought or idea that you consciously focus on in order to produce a desired result. The affirmation is a simple, yet powerful technique which can heal and transform your most deeply held beliefs.
It has been said motivation is like a fire. You have to add wood continually or it will go out. Just as a fire needs more fuel becoming a positive person needs constant motivation from some source whether it’s reading motivational books, attending workshops or talking to a Life Coach. You can find great books to motivate you in the local library, book stores or online. This is the way to always stay motivated be inspired, and create a positive attitude and outlook. By repeating your positive affirmations, you are adding wood to the fire. By selecting people to surround you who have similar motivation, you add wood, and through this process, set yourself up for success. The last form of suggestion is AUTO-SUGGESTION. It is the automatic release of Suggestions or SelfSuggestions from the subconscious mind, the storehouse of all suggestions, to the conscious mind. This is the release of thoughts, actions, and ideas from the subconscious. The positive suggestions and self-suggestions practiced through repetition have now replaced your old thoughts and habits with positive ones that are more productive for you.

AMAZING MEN The thoughts on which you have decided to focus have now become your new reality. You have used this new, improved program to place you closer to connecting you to your greatness. Here are a few of my personal favorite affirmations: I feel healthy! I feel happy! I feel terrific! Day by day in every way, I am getting better
and better. Whatever the mind can conceive and be-
lieve, the mind can achieve! Success is achieved by those who try and
keep trying! Where there is nothing to lose by trying and a great deal to gain if successful by all means try! Keep your mind on the things you want and off the things you don’t want! As long as you are green you are growing— when you get ripe you being to rot! Pick the affirmations that are most important to you now and repeat those 20 times every morning and 20 times at night before going to bed. What other slogans or platitudes do you wish to use to become more positive? Who are you now is small compared to what you are capable of being. You were born with unlimited potential. Use the power of suggestion to make you a NO limit person!
