Africa-Angler.com, in association with our partners in Uganda, is proud to promote our sport-fishing adventure in Uganda’s Murchison Falls National Park. This package takes our anglers to one of the best Nile Perch destinations in the whole of Africa. Anglers will fish for giant Nile Perch and other species in a spectacular fishing area in the African. Guests will fish from the shore and from boats with a maximum of two anglers per boat.
Our anglers will stay in a camp that is just a few minutes away from the majestic river Nile and they can see elephants, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes and all the other game of Africa while fishing the River Nile. This is a real Africa adventure! Huge fish and wildlife everywhere!
THE FISHING
Lure and bait fishing are the most common techniques for these river giants. Fishing is done by casting from the shore, rocky outcrops, drift casting or casting while moored to the bank from the boat, fly fishing (with large streamers), vertical jigging with live/dead bait and soft lures and trolling. We use hard and soft lures, usually all big-sized, trolling lures. Apart from huge Nile Perch, our anglers will also have the chance of catching Vundu and Semutundu catfish, Tiger Fish and other smaller species.
The season to come fishing for the huge Nile Perch and other great species is from December – April when there is less current and the water is in perfect condition.
TACKLE TALK
We suggest the following gear for our Uganda Nile Perch trips: RODS AND REELS 9-10ft up-tide rods or similar heavy action rods matched with either a large capacity bait casting reel or a large capacity spinning reel with minimum 200m of 80lbs braid can be used when trolling and long-casting for Nile Perch. Heavy 8-9ft bait casting or spinning rods should be matched with bait casting or spinning reel with capacity of min. 120m of 80lb braid. This heavier outfit is needed to handle deep diving lures and larger baits and heavy jigs. Strong braid is used to handle runs from Nile Perch. This same outfit can also be used for Vundu cats with cut baits. Medium-heavy 6’6”–7’6” baitcasting or spinning rod should be matched with a baitcasting or spinning reel with capacity of min. 120m of 45-50lb braid. These slightly lighter outfits will handle casting and using smaller baits, jigs and lures. It will handle medium-sized Nile Perch and other smaller species. Medium-light 6’6”–7’6” spinning rod spinning reel with capacity for min.120m of 20-30lb braid. This much lighter outfit will give your arms and wrists a rest from bigger baits and will allow you to easily use jigs and smaller minnowbaits when casting from the rocks. 9-12 Wt fly rods should be matched with fly reels with good, smooth drag systems, loaded with fast-sinking 300-500 grain flyline and intermediate flyline; 30-50lb straight mono can be used for leaders 1.5m–2m attached to large streamer flies. Medium and long length streamer flies are generally great fish producers.
