Following sell out seasons at the National Theatre and on Broadway, The Pitmen Painters embarks on a national tour prior to opening in the West End. Written by Lee Hall, creator of the worldwide sensation Billy Elliot and directed by Max Roberts, The Pitmen Painters, has received huge critical acclaim and won the Evening Standard award for Best New Play. In 1934, a group of Ashington miners hired a professor to teach an art appreciation evening class. Rapidly abandoning theory in favour of practice, the pitmen began to paint. The Pitmen Painters examines the lives of a group of ordinary men that do extraordinary things; it is a humorous, deeply moving and timely look at art, class and politics. 4

Warren Clarke leading an all star cast, playing Winston Churchill, in the world premiere of Ben Brown’s thrilling political drama

MAY 1940. DOWNING STREET. THREE DAYS THAT WILL CHANGE THE COURSE OF HISTORY. FOREVER. Ben Brown’s political thriller takes us behind the doors of Number 10 during three of the most pivotal days in British history, when, extraordinarily, giving in to Hitler was considered by some to be a viable option. Having urgently assembled the British war cabinet, the new Prime Minister is suddenly confronted with an intense game of political chess between peace treaty supporters and its opponents. Divided on whether to negotiate terms through Mussolini or escalate the battle against fascism alone, one man has to make a monumental decision, which will shape the future of the free world. One of the UK’s most recognised and versatile actors, Warren Clarke has been starring on stage, television and the big screen for over four decades, with a wide range of credits such as: Coronation Street, Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange, Clint Eastwood’s Firefox, Blackadder, Bleak House, The Invisibles, three series of Down to Earth (starring opposite Pauline Quirke) and of course playing Dalziel in no less than 12 series of the multi award winning BBC TV hit Dalziel and Pascoe, which ran for 11 years. Three Days in May, directed by Alan Strachan, embarks on a strictly limited national tour prior to the West End, which sees Warren Clarke lead an all star cast in his return to the stage for the first time in over a decade. 6

Tracie Bennett Hilton McRae

★★★★★ ‘One of the greatest musical performances I have ever witnessed’ THE Daily Telegraph

By Peter Quilter Directed by Terry Johnson Olivier award winning Tracie Bennett has taken the West End by storm as Judy Garland in Peter Quilter’s new play End Of The Rainbow. London, December 1968, and Judy Garland is about to make her comeback again. Determined to reclaim her crown as the greatest talent of her generation, she battles with a tornado of drugs and alcohol and a gruelling schedule of exhausting concerts at The Talk Of The Town. Despite a series of failed marriages, Judy has her latest and youngest husband-to-be by her side, a man as determined as she that, at any cost, these concerts will mark the revival of her battered career. Tracie Bennett’s remarkable portrayal of this tough, talented, compelling woman has been rewarded with standing ovations. This extraordinary production - thrilling, hilarious, moving and tragic - is directed by Tony and Olivier award winner Terry Johnson, features a six piece onstage band and includes Garland’s most memorable songs - The Man That Got Away, Come Rain Or Come Shine, The Trolley Song and of course, Somewhere Over The Rainbow.

Earthquakes in London A new play by Mike

Bartlett Directed by Rupert Goold

An all-pervasive fear of the future and a guilty pleasure in the excesses of the present drive this epic rollercoaster from 1968 to 2525 and back again. A hedonistic whirlwind, this is a thrilling, immersive experience from the ever-inventive Headlong who created the multi award winning ENRON. Burlesque strip shows, social breakdown, population explosion and worldwide paranoia. Experience a fast and furious metropolitan crash of people, scenes and decades, as three sisters attempt to navigate their dislocated lives and loves, while their dysfunctional father, a brilliant scientist, predicts global catastrophe. Earthquakes in London premiered to critical acclaim at the National Theatre in 2010 and is written by award winning playwright Mike Bartlett (Cock, Love Love Love, My Child), and directed by Headlong Artistic Director Rupert Goold (twice Olivier award winner for Best Director and Associate Director at the RSC). tue 18 - sat 22 oct Eves 7.45pm Thu & Sat mats 2.30pm POst show talk Thu 20 Oct 7.45pm

Audiences are in for a treat this Autumn when the master of wit, Roger McGough dips his magic quill, adapting Molière’s sublime comedy Tartuffe. Tartuffe is a beacon of piety and has his feet firmly under the table in the home of wealthy merchant, Orgon. But all is not as it seems and as Orgon becomes enraptured with Tartuffe the whole city is chattering. Is he friend, fraud, miracle or hypocrite? The family smells a rat and amid the frills and frivolity of seventeenth century society, they hatch a cunning plan to outwit the wily deceiver before he brings their house crashing down. Directed by Gemma Bodinez and originally presented to massive critical and public acclaim in Liverpool, this scathingly funny production reunites ETT with the Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse following their hilarious joint production of Roger McGough’s version of Molière’s The Hypochondriac in 2009.

Simon Callow is a virtuoso storyteller who has already presented the life of Britain’s greatest novelist in The Mystery of Charles Dickens in both the West End and on Broadway. Now he brings to life two one-man plays by Charles Dickens after a sell out London run. In an absorbing theatrical event he tells the stories of Dr Marigold, a travelling salesman who adopts a little deaf and dumb girl and Mr Chops, a freak show turn who wins the lottery and a place in society. Adapted by Patrick Garland, these masterpieces which were hugely popular when Dickens himself performed them on his famed reading tours, provide a masterly blend of the comic, bizarre and poignant that is classic Dickens.

Simon Callow recently played Pozzo in Waiting for Godot and has starred in the Oscar winning films A Room with a View, Howard’s End and Shakespeare in Love.

by gill adams starring Paul Nicholas as Stephen Ward alice coulthard as Christine Keeler In 1963, the Secretary of State for war, John ‘Jack’ Profumo, was forced to resign after it was established that he had lied to the House about the nature of his relationship with a young showgirl Christine Keeler. She was also involved with a Russian spy during her affair with the Secretary of State. The ensuing scandal was in part responsible for the resignation of the Prime Minister Harold MacMillan and the suicide of the man who introduced Keeler to Profumo, Stephen Ward.
