GIVING UP WAS NEVER AN OPTION! Bill Kenwright presents
Warren Clarke leading an all star cast, playing Winston Churchill, in the World Premiere of Ben Brown’s thrilling political drama
MAY 1940. DOWNING STREET. THREE DAYS THAT WILL CHANGE THE COURSE OF HISTORY. FOREVER. Ben Brown’s political thriller takes us behind the doors of Number 10 during three of the most pivotal days in British history, when, extraordinarily, giving in to Hitler was considered by some to be a ‘viable option’.
david haig stars in alan bennett’s
Having urgently assembled the British war cabinet, the new Prime Minister is suddenly confronted with an intense game of political chess between peace treaty supporters and its opponents. Divided on whether to negotiate terms through Mussolini or escalate the battle against fascism alone, one man has to make a monumental decision, which will shape the future of the free world.
Directed by Christopher Luscombe
One of the UK’s most recognised and versatile actors, Warren Clarke has been starring on stage, television and the big screen for over four decades, with a wide range of credits such as: Coronation Street; Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange; Clint Eastwood’s Firefox; Blackadder; Bleak House; The Invisibles; three series of Down to Earth (starring opposite Pauline Quirke) and of course playing Dalziel in no less than 12 series of the multi-award-winning BBC TV hit Dalziel and Pascoe, which ran for 11 years. Three Days in May, directed by Alan Strachan, embarks on a strictly limited national tour prior to the West End, which sees Warren Clarke lead an all star cast in his return to the stage for the first time in over a decade. 4

During George III’s reign, he fathered 15 children and founded the Royal Academy of Arts; Great Britain and Ireland became the United Kingdom, and Britain lost its American colonies. In spite of all this, he is best remembered today for his bouts of unbridled lunacy when it seemed that the very future of the monarchy was at stake. David Haig, most recently seen in West End hit Yes, Prime Minister, plays King George. One of the UK’s most versatile actors, his numerous stage credits include West End and Broadway productions of Donkeys’ Years and Art as well as an Olivier Award-winning performance in Our Country’s Good. He is joined by acclaimed actor and writer Clive Francis (The Reluctant Debutante, Enron) and directed by Christopher Luscombe, who has achieved considerable success directing Alan Bennett’s work including Enjoy in the West End and The History Boys. With its huge cast, this epic production combines drama, politics and humour into a vivid theatrical portrait of English history.

Simon Callow is a virtuoso storyteller who has already presented the life of Britain’s greatest novelist in The Mystery of Charles Dickens in both Richmond and the West End. Now he brings to life two one-man plays by Charles Dickens after a sell-out London run. In an absorbing theatrical event he tells the stories of Dr Marigold, a travelling salesman who adopts a little deaf and dumb girl and Mr Chops, a freak-show turn who wins the lottery and a place in society. Adapted by Patrick Garland, these masterpieces, which were hugely popular when Dickens himself performed them on his famed reading tours, provide a masterly blend of the comic, bizarre and poignant that is classic Dickens. Simon Callow recently played Pozzo in Waiting for Godot and has starred in the Oscar-winning films A Room with a View, Howard’s End and Shakespeare in Love. He returns to Richmond after the success of Shakespeare the Man From Stratford. 6

In 1963 the Secretary of State for War, John ‘Jack’ Profumo, was forced to resign after it was established that he had lied to the House about the nature of his relationship with a young showgirl Christine Keeler. She was also involved with a Russian spy during her affair with the Secretary of State. The ensuing scandal was in part responsible for the resignation of the Prime Minister, Harold MacMillan, and the suicide of the man who introduced Keeler to Profumo, Stephen Ward. Based on the 2001 biography, The Truth At Last, written by Christine Keeler with Douglas Thompson, this play reveals the sensational inside story of the infamous Profumo affair: the biggest political sex scandal to rock the British nation in the 20th century. Paul Nicholas is probably best known for the BAFTA awardwinning TV series Just Good Friends. Alice is well known for her 2-year role as Maisie Wylde in Emmerdale. Contains some nudity.

‘genuinely touching, well worth a spin’ the daily telegraph
David Essex and Boogie Nights creator Jon Conway invite you to a helter-skelter, rollercoaster of a musical inspired by David’s classic 1975 album, All the Fun of the Fair. Recently widowed Levi Lee (David Essex) is struggling to keep his ailing funfair on the road, and his rebellious teenage son out of trouble. It doesn’t help when a gypsy fortune-teller predicts danger ahead for Levi – but does she have an eye on her own future? Against the carnival atmosphere of crafty cons and candy-floss, dodgems, carousel horses and the odd punch-up, a touching contemporary love story reveals that it’s not always fun at the fair. With its string of fabulous Essex hits – including Winter’s Tale, Hold Me Close, Gonna Make You A Star, Me And My Girl, Silver Dream Machine and Rock On - All the Fun of the Fair was nominated for the What’sonStage Award for Best New West End Musical after its record-breaking West End run in 2010. 8

But all is not as it seems and as Orgon becomes enraptured with Tartuffe the whole city is chattering. Is he friend, fraud, miracle or hypocrite? The love story that gripped Paris. A tragic tale of searing passion, La Traviata is Verdi’s outstanding interpretation of one of the most popular love stories of the 19th century, La dame aux camelias. Based on a true story, it tells of the passionate consumptive Violetta. There are many echoes of Verdi’s own life in La Traviata and he threw himself into the music. The highlights include the brindisi, the best known drinking song in opera, the duet Un di felice and Violetta’s haunting aria, Addio del passato.
Further to the play’s recent sell-out season at the National Theatre, Bill Kenwright presents a brand-new production of Alan Ayckbourn’s hilarious hit comedy Season’s Greetings. It’s Christmas at Belinda and Neville’s house, a time for family and friends to come together and celebrate the festivities - and celebrate they do! Take one frustrated wife, add a seductive stranger, two eccentric uncles and a mechanical monkey, and watch the hilarity unfold in Ayckbourn’s explosive festive treat. Christmas will never be the same again! Glynis Barber is perhaps most recently known as EastEnders’ notorious vixen Glenda Mitchell. Starring alongside her is Denis Lill, star of the highly-acclaimed TV drama The Royal, Ricky Groves, who played the lovable Gary Hobbs in EastEnders, Mathew Bose who played Paul Lambert in Emmerdale, Christopher Timothy, the popular soap actor known for his parts in Doctors, Casualty and The Bill and Jenny Funnell, best known for her role as Sandy in the British sitcom, As Time Goes By. 10

The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Little Cloud and The Mixed-up Chameleon by award-winning children’s book illustrator and writer Eric Carle, are beautifully told in this glowing stage adaptation with puppetry. The Very Hungry Caterpillar follows the wonderful adventures of a very tiny and very hungry caterpillar that progresses through an amazing variety of foods towards its eventual metamorphosis into a beautiful butterfly. Children will delight in the antics of Little Cloud.
