TREINTA AÑOS FORTALECIENDO LAZOS ENTRE ESTADOS UNIDOS Y PANAMÁ La Cámara Americana de Comercio e Industrias fue creada el 31 de octubre de 1979 por un grupo de empresarios quienes sintieron que la organización podría tener una voz importante promocionando ideas de negocios en Panamá.

30 YEARS STRENGTHENING THE TIES BETWEEN PANAMA AND THE UNITED STATES The American Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AmCham) was created on October 31, 1979, by a handful of Business people who felt that the organization could be an important voice in promoting Business ideas in Panama. AmCham membership has grown from 68 firms in its first year, to over 420 member companies today. Since its founding, the Chamber has provided members with conferences and seminars on a variety of important topics. In addition the Chamber publishes a selection of newsletters, research articles, a bimonthly magazine and an annual directory. The dissemination of Business and economic information, which can be difficult to obtain in Panama, is one of AmCham's primary and most valuable member services. Periodic market studies and reports covering topics such as a local legislation, have all provided critical data about the Panamanian market for Business people here and the head offices of American businesses in the United States. In 1986, for example, a comprehensive study was made by Amcham of the "Assets and Liabilities" of Panama in the development of tourism. In 1995, AmCham promoted a very successful international

investment forum on the "Opportunities in the Panama Canal Areas". Research of this kind, helps the Chamber's members stay abreast of the most important and timely business information in Panama. As the independent voice of business in Panama, AmCham has been instrumental in communicating U.S. trade and multinational commerce concerns to the American Embassy, as well as to the U.S. Congress in Washington. Improved communications and better understanding between U.S. and Panamanian member companies, have also resulted from the Chamber's activities. AmCham is a non-profit, non- political, independent, voluntary association supported primarily by membership dues. Much of the organization's work is accomplished through the efforts of volunteer member committees which collaborate to help AmCham promote free enterprise in Panama. Today, AmCham organizations are established in 91 countries throughout Latin America, Asia and Europe. Panama's Chamber is affiliated with the Association of American Chambers of Commerce in Latin America (AACCLA) and is a fully accredited member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce In the United Sates of America.

AMCHAM CELEBRAMOS 3 DÉCADAS El pasado 22 de octubre, la Cámara Americana de Comercio celebró sus 30 años de fundación, con un coctel ofrecido a sus miembros en el Centro de Visitantes de Miraflores. La celebración inicio con las palabras de introducción por parte de Annette Cárdenas y David Hunt, moderadores del evento. Continuando con Alexander Psychoyos, quien fue Presidente de AmCham en 1987, además de uno de los 68 miembros fundadores de la organización, y parte de la primera junta directiva del 30 de octubre de 1979. Psychoyos ofreció un excelente discurso a cerca de las razones y dificultades que era hacer negocios en Panama en esa época. La honorable Barbara Stephenson, embajadora de los Estados Unidos en Panamá, que fue la oradora principal, felicitó a los miembros por esta especial ocasión y a su vez animó a la Cámara a seguir apoyando los programas para mejoras en la educación, seguridad y las leyes de Estado para hacer de Panamá un lugar cada vez mejor para vivir. Los miembros disfrutaron de una deliciosa comida atendidos por el Hotel Marriott Panamá y bailaron junto a la Orquesta Café. Además de contar con el patrocinio de Cervecería Nacional y Medimex, quienes ofrecieron cervezas y vino para la celebración.

(REALTOR) que cumplen veinticinco años como miembros de la Cámara. Bienes Raíces y Seguros Carles, S.A. se incorporó a la AMCHAM en 1984 cuando mayormente sus miembros eran empresas Norteamericanas, pero la visión y misión de la institución incluía incorporar empresas Panameñas que conjuntamente promovieran las inversiones hacia Panamá, fortaleciendo la economía y consolidando gobiernos democráticos en el hemisferio. AMCHAM Y MINISTRA DE EDUCACION Aprovechando la visita de una misión comercial de los EEUU, el Presidente de AmCham, Thomas Kenna, se reunió con la Ministra de Educación, Lucy Molinar. Durante su reunión, intercambiaron ideas sobre la importancia de la educación y como lograr mejorar la misma para que los jóvenes panameños puedan competir en el mercado laborable y conseguir mejores empleos. AmCham y sus miembros, conscientes de la importancia que representa la educación, no solo para lo juventud si no también para las empresas que requieren capital humano capacitado, se manifestaron dispuestos a colaborar con la Ministra en desarrollar programas que incentiven la buena formación de los alumnos en las escuelas del país. Esta formación debe incluir el aprendizaje del idioma Inglés. AMCHAM Y RICARDO MARTINELLI Durante la visita de una misión comercial de los EEUU al Palacio de las Garzas, el Presidente de AmCham, Thomas Kenna y el Presidente de la República, Ricardo Martinelli, conversaron sobre la importancia de seguir apoyando el Tratado de Libre Comercio entre Panamá y los EEUU. A pesar de los contratiempos, AmCham considera que este tratado es de sumo beneficio para ambos países y continuara con sus esfuerzos cabildeando por la aprobación del tratado por parte del Congreso estadounidense.

AMCHAM Y MINISTRO DE TURISMO El Presidente de AMCHAM, Thomas Kenna, viajo recientemente con el Ministro de Turismo, Salomón Shamah, a St. Lucia para participar en la 16a Conferencia Anual de Turismo del FCCA (Florida Caribbean Cruise Association). El Presidente de AMCHAM y el Ministro participaron como miembros del "Panama Team", organización que lleva 9 años promoviendo a Panama como destino turístico y atractivo para la industria de cruceros. El Panama Team es un esfuerzo mixto de la empresa privada y el Gobierno de Panamá. El esfuerzo en común del Panama Team fue clave en lograr que la línea de cruceros Royal Caribbean estableciera su "Homeport" en Panama. Panama Canal Railway Company, Colon 2000 y Panama Ports Company son tres de las empresas fundadoras del Panama Team. AMCHAM NETWORKING La Cámara Americana de Comercio e Industria de Panamá realizó un Networking con sus miembros en las instalaciones de la Cervecería Nacional. Nuestros miembros pudieron degustar distintos productos y a su vez escuchar una charla de la Ingeniera Cervecera, Galaxy Ardila quien nos explicó el proceso de la cerveza y como se distribuye al país. AMCHAM - JUNTA DIRECTIVA 2009 TOMA DE POSESION

Se realizó la Toma de Posesión de la Nueva Junta Directiva de la Cámara Americana de Comercio e Industria de Panamá, la cual será presidida en el 2009 por Thomas Kenna, Presidente, Panama Canal Railway Company. ALMUERZO AMCHAM - ACP El Administrador de la ACP invitó a miembros de la Junta Directiva y presidentes de comité de la Cámara Americana de Comercio e Industria de Panamá a un almuerzo en las instalaciones de la ACP con motivo de estrechar lazos y hablar sobre temas de intereses para ambas entidades. AMCHAM Y MISION COMERCIAL DEL ESTADO DE ARKANSAS El Presidente de AmCham fue anfitrión de una misión comercial del estado de Arkansas, EEUU, para hablar sobre inversiones y negocios en Panamá. Además de celebrar visitas con altos funcionarios del gobierno panameño, el Sr. Kenna consiguió que los delegados estadounidenses acordaran apoyar la pronta aprobación del TLC EEUU-Panamá en el Congreso de los Estados Unidos. AMCHAM - RESPONSABILIDAD SOCIAL EMPRESARIAL La Cámara Americana de Comercio e Industria de Panamá realizó un desayuno para orientar a las compañías miembros que se presentarán al Premio AmCham al Buen Ciudadano Corporativo, sobre las bases del concurso, formatos, criterios de selección y otros detalles relacionados. El premio pretende incentivar la responsabilidad social empresarial entre la membresía y documentar casos de buenas prácticas.
