Q. Tell us about yourself; How did you get your start with Northrop Grumman? How long have you been working in the Middle East? A. I am a Saudi national with diversified background and a global mindset. I have five lovely children 3 girls and two boys. I started with Northrop Grumman in January 2014 as the Chief Executive for Saudi Arabia, and I am now the Chief Executive for Northrop Grumman in the Middle East. Key aspects of this role are to establish a growth strategy for Northrop Grumman and lead the company’s operations across the region, accelerate business growth and explore opportunities for public-private partnerships. The majority of my professional career has been in the Middle East region; I spent about four years in the United Kingdom with BAE Systems. Prior to my appointment at Northrop Grumman, I was the Saudi Deputy Minister for Industrial Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. I joined the Ministry after serving at General Electric (GE) for Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, where I was president and chief executive officer during a period of significant growth in the region. I also worked at BAE Systems for more than 20 years where I developed strategies for growth and inward investment opportunities in Saudi Arabia. My passion for technology and innovation, particularly in defense and aerospace, is rooted in my education in the U.S. where I earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering and management systems from the University of South Florida. While Northrop Grumman’s regional headquarters is in Riyadh, we maintain an office in Abu Dhabi as we have significant business interests in the UAE and I am in Abu Dhabi on regular basis.
Q. Can you share with us the history of Northrop Grumman in the Middle East? How long has the company been operating in Abu Dhabi? A. Northrop Grumman has maintained a strong partnership with the United Arab Emirates for more than 25 years as a leading
6
supplier of a range of capabilities and technologies in defense, security, and communications. Most notably, we are a key subcontractor for the UAE Air Force F-16 Block 60 Desert Falcon and the Emirates Air Defense Ground Environment (EADGE), an integrated air defense program. Our work in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia extends even longer, more than 30 years, when we first sold the F-5 Tiger tactical fighter jet to the Royal Saudi Air Force. We continue to grow our presence in the Kingdom through programs such as the Longbow Fire Control Radar for the AH-64 Apache Attack Helicopter, and we have also been heavily involved in the training and development of Saudi military personnel.
Q. What are the core values of Northrop Grumman? A. We treat Northrop Grumman employees, suppliers, and other partners as essential team members, as we strive for customer satisfaction through the delivery of high-quality products and services. Also, we act with integrity in all we do. I can tell you that these values are more than words, they are the expectations set and exhibited by the company’s CEO and incorporated into every employee’s job performance evaluation. By living up to these values, we can build lasting relationships in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and across the region that make Northrop Grumman the business partner of choice.
Q. What long term vision does Northrop Grumman have for UAE and the region? A. Our long-term vision is to further enhance the trusted partnerships we have established in the UAE and the region. We know that the capabilities of Northrop Grumman are well aligned to the national security requirements of the Gulf States and, in concert with the U.S. government, we see excellent business opportunities now and in the future. Still, I firmly believe that a trusted partnership is much more than a sale. It means finding

opportunities to engage the local supplier base, develop the local workforce so they are prepared for the high-tech jobs of the future and advance STEM education so the next-generation of scientists and engineers are prepared for the opportunities that await. These ongoing activities are in line with UAE Vision 2021 and Saudi Vision 2030 and represent the type of long-term commitment we have to the UAE, Saudi Arabia and the region.
Q. What is the most important lesson you have had to learn as a leader? A. Leadership is about understanding and appreciating people’s views and perspectives. Identifying what motivates them is an absolute must as is recognizing that everyone matters and should be treated with the utmost respect. I also find that I can always learn from the people I meet and engage with. Emotional intelligence is a key attribute to any successful leader.
Q. As an Executive in the defense industry, what is the value of the Aerospace and defense Committee?

Q. What do you do to relax after work? Do you have any particular hobbies of interest? A. I love to spend time with my children after work. This can be difficult as I am frequent business traveler and often have formal events after working hours, but I try my best to spend quality time with my kids. When it comes to hobbies, I still love to play football, table tennis, and brain-teaser games on my iPad.
Q. What do you love most about being in UAE? A. The UAE has a dynamic international environment and atmosphere, yet you can find an amazing local culture with remarkable tradition. I also love the UAE as it comprises a diversified workforce.
A. The Aerospace and Defense Committee enables the relevant business community to engage in bilateral dialogue with key UAE stakeholders and fosters industry-to-industry relationships. It is important that we can rely on our peers and this committee to create a culture of trust and information-sharing. Northrop Grumman also sees value in using this forum to access the enduser community and leverage the great work done by the Office of Defense Partnership. Finally, the committee is a conduit to ensure further alignment and ultimately work share with the local UAE defence and aerospace industry.
Q. Is it true that Northrop Grumman has acquired Orbital ATK? How will that impact the UAE office? A. Yes. In June, Northrop Grumman completed its acquisition of Orbital ATK, a global leader in aerospace and defense technologies. The acquisition created a fourth business sector of the company, Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems, which designs, builds and delivers space, defense and aviation-related systems to customers around the world. Together, through our leading technologies and innovation-focused culture, we look forward to developing enhanced mission capabilities and more competitive offerings in critical global security domains.

AmCham Abu Dhabi Announces 2018 Excellence Awards Winners
At AmCham Abu Dhabi’s 8th Excellence Awards and 18th Charity Gala, top business and community leaders came together to recognize leading U.S. and U.A.E. companies, institutions and entrepreneurs for their dedication to strengthening U.S.-U.A.E. commercial relations. The finalists were honored Friday, January 26, with an evening gala at Rosewood Abu Dhabi, with guest of honor, the Honorable Barbara A. Leaf, U.S. Ambassador to the U.A.E. “AmCham Abu Dhabi is proud to recognize the winners of the 2018 Excellence Awards,” said Sharief Fahmy, Chairman of AmCham Abu Dhabi. “We honor and celebrate these U.S. and U.A.E. companies, institutions and individuals for their achievements and contributions to enhance the U.S.-U.A.E. commercial relationship. Because of their commitment and dedication to excellence, the U.S.-U.A.E. relationship continues to grow stronger.” The Excellence Awards applaud best-in-class American and Emirati individuals and businesses for their achievements in the local business community. The winners of the five awards are: Nora Jamal Al Suwaidi, Director General of the Cancer Patient Care Society – Rahma received the Young Achiever
Award, which recognizes a young entrepreneur under the age of 40 who has demonstrated smashing success in professional practice and exemplifies a commitment to excellence by inspiring others in launching U.A.E. based business opportunities. Nora is the Director General and Founding Member of the Cancer Patient Care Society – Rahma, which offers care, services and information to help cancer patients receive treatment and information about cancer, while educating the community regarding the types, causes and prevention of cancer. Nora has worked diligently to

promote Rahma’s mission in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., regionally and internationally. In line with her efforts to spread public health awareness, Nora has also launched multiple activities including high profile lectures during the World Cancer Day; awareness campaigns for cancer in the U.A.E. and various partnership programs with companies, hospitals, health associations, schools and the community, which have inspired others to launch projects and businesses in the healthcare sector. Nora is also an advisory member of the United Planet Foundation, an international humanitarian organization based in Boston which fosters cross-cultural understanding. Esther Ndichu, Director of Public Affairs and Government Relations, Indian Subcontinent, Middle East and Africa, UPS, received the Woman in Business Award, which recognizes
a working female who has demonstrated exemplary leadership and accomplishment by pushing barriers, overcoming challenges and setting an example of perseverance and professionalism. Esther is the Director of Public Affairs and Government Relations for UPS in the Indian Subcontinent, Middle East and Africa. She is responsible for public/government and customs affairs for the region. One of her core focus areas and interests is increasing cross border trade and identifying ways to assist SME’s access global markets. Esther has proven herself to be an entrepreneurial leader, passionate about the cause of logistics and women empowerment. She has been spearheading UPS’s Women’s Leadership Development program in the region and launched an apprenticeship program in U.A.E. which has opened doors for many women to consider the transportation sector as a career choice. The program focuses on helping women enhance their ability to lead others professionally and personally while developing the knowledge, skills and values necessary to confidently step into a leadership role within UPS.

Dr. Mohammed Nasser Al Ahbabi, Director General, UAE Space Agency, received the Falcon Individual Award, which
recognizes an individual demonstrating an outstanding commitment to sustainable U.S.-U.A.E. business relations. Dr. Mohammed is the Director General of the U.A.E. Space Agency and is one of the most qualified national leaders within the space industry. His initial responsibility included designing and creating the agency. Under his leadership, the U.A.E. Space Program has collaborated with a number of U.S. organizations, including Lockheed Martin, the U.S. Strategic Command and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. These collaborations lead to various joint projects in the aerospace industry, which further strengthened the U.S.-U.A.E. commercial relationship. The Boeing Company received the Falcon Organization Award,
which recognizes an organization demonstrating an outstanding commitment to sustainable U.S.-U.A.E. business relations. The Boeing Company is the world’s largest aerospace company and leading manufacturer of commercial jetliners and defense, space and security systems. The Boeing Company shares a longstanding relationship with the United Arab Emirates and has worked closely with U.A.E. civil and defense authorities to achieve the country’s objectives and ambitions. This collaboration has helped the U.A.E. transform into a global transportation, logistics and tourism hub. In 2017 alone, U.A.E. carriers announced the purchase of 265 new Boeing aircraft valued at $42.1 billion. These purchases will support hundreds of thousands of jobs in the U.S. Boeing has also entered high profile industry collaborations with U.A.E. organizations including the Mubadala Investment Company, Tawazun Precision Industries and Emirates Defense Industries Company (EDIC) creating jobs in the U.A.E. In addition, Boeing has supported numerous organizations to address the U.A.E.’s community needs including INDEMAJ, Action Care, Injaz, Planet Finance and various educational programs.

Farewell Receptions in Honor of U.S. Ambassador to the U.A.E. The Honorable Barbara A. Leaf
The U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council, the American Chamber of Commerce Abu Dhabi (AmCham Abu Dhabi), and the American Business Council in Dubai and the Northern Emirates (ABC Dubai), co-hosted two luncheon receptions in Abu Dhabi and Dubai on March 7 and 8 to say farewell and thank you to The Honorable Barbara A. Leaf, outgoing U.S. Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates. At each event, Ambassador Leaf was received by over one hundred senior government officials and business leaders from the U.S. and U.A.E. who had an opportunity to celebrate and recognize her tremendous accomplishments throughout her time as U.S. Ambassador to the U.A.E. During both receptions, U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council President Danny Sebright, AmCham Abu Dhabi Chairman Sharief Fahmy, AmCham Abu Dhabi Executive Director Theresa Weber, and ABC Dubai CEO Bilal Sabouni provided sincere messages of thanks for her support of the American business community. In Abu Dhabi, Mr. Waleed Al Mokarrab Al Muhairi - who serves as the Mubadala Investment Company’s Deputy Group CEO and Chief Executive Officer, Alternative Investment and Infrastructure - congratulated the Ambassador on bolstering the overall U.S.-U.A.E. bilateral relationship and for successfully navigating a range of challenges to ensure an ever-stronger partnership between the two nations. In Dubai, Paul Malik, Consul General at the U.S. Consulate in Dubai, highlighted the close working relationship he has enjoyed with the Ambassador since taking up his duties as Consul General in September of 2015. He thanked her for her service, for tirelessly working to promote increased cooperation between the U.S. and U.A.E., and for bridging the cultural ties between the two countries.
Finally, she expressed confidence in the enduring nature of U.S.-U.A.E. relations, and the U.A.E.’s promise to be a driver of safety and security, progress, and prosperity in the region. Ambassador Leaf remarked, “The U.S. and U.A.E. have been working together since the first days of the U.A.E.’s founding in 1971. But in the intervening years, the bilateral relationship has evolved remarkably from one based almost exclusively on hydrocarbons to the closest of strategic military, political, and economic partnerships. In fact, in this region, it is singular in that respect.” “And after three years, I can say that the U.S.-U.A.E. trade relationship remains strong, and that the U.S. will continue its key partnership role as the U.A.E. transitions to becoming a leading hub for innovation.” “I am proud to have been part of that relationship, and working with the U.A.E. government, and the U.S. business community to deepen trust and friendship has been a career highlight for me.” Following her remarks, the U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council, AmCham Abu Dhabi, and ABC Dubai presented Ambassador Leaf with a special gift in honor of her service. Since 2015 the U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council, AmCham Abu Dhabi, and ABC Dubai were honored to have closely collaborated with Ambassador Leaf on a range of policy issues. We wish her continued success in her future endeavors.
Ambassador Leaf thanked both Mr. Al Muhairi and CG Malik for their heartfelt messages, the attendees in Abu Dhabi and Dubai for their warm reception, and all of the American and Emirati organizations who helped promote the U.S.U.A.E. commercial relationship. Ambassador Leaf then reflected on some of her fondest memories and proudest accomplishments as Ambassador. She also applauded the U.A.E.’s forward-leaning leadership for pushing the Emirates closer to becoming a true knowledge-based economy.

AmCham Abu Dhabi’s WOMEN ACHIEVE Initiative Celebrates its Fifth Anniversary “WOMEN ACHIEVE in The Year of Zayed”
WOMEN ACHIEVE, a women’s advancement initiative launched by AmCham Abu Dhabi’s Women in Business Committee, celebrated its fifth anniversary on March 15, 2018 at The Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi, Grand Canal. The symposium featured keynote addresses by The Honorable Barbara A. Leaf, U.S. Ambassador to the U.A.E., Virginia Grebbien, Chief of Staff, Parsons Corporation and Asantewaa Engmann, U.A.E. Operations Manager, UPS. In addition, Emirati executives from SEDRA Foundation, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and Capital Health Screening Centre participated on an interactive panel. AmCham Abu Dhabi Chairman Sharief Fahmy addressed the sold-out crowd in his opening remarks. “The AmCham Abu Dhabi Women in Business Committee has been working diligently to empower women in the workplace by organizing numerous events, programs and initiatives that benefit members and WOMEN ACHIEVE Ambassadors. U.A.E. continues to highlight the contributions of women in the workforce. In recognition of the Year of Sheikh Zayed, I am proud of the committee’s hard work in launching various initiatives across Abu Dhabi in support of the vision for the nation.” “This symposium marks the 5th anniversary of the Women in Business Committee’s WOMEN ACHIEVE Initiative, which coincides with International Women’s Day and the U.S. National Women’s History Month which is celebrated in March,” said Dareen Zoughbi, Chairperson, AmCham Abu Dhabi’s Women in Business Committee. “It is a special celebration today as it also falls under the Year of Zayed. The late founding father has played an influential role in

advancement and support for women empowerment in the U.A.E and the region.” Ambassador Barbara Leaf provided insights on U.S. and U.A.E. efforts to support female empowerment. She reflected on her 30 years as a diplomat as well as her role as U.S. Ambassador to the U.A.E. She noted “Almost nothing has impressed me more about this remarkable country I have served in for over three years than the women I have met, from pioneers in aviation, space, science, engineering, medicine and sports to women breaking the very highest glass ceilings and entering the C-suite of major private sector firms as well as those launching their own businesses.” Ambassador Leaf also noted the legacy of Sheikh Zayed, the U.A.E.’s founding father, and his support of women in the U.A.E. Following the keynote speeches, Dareen Zoughbi moderated a Q&A session with the Honorable Barbara A. Leaf, Virginia Grebbien and Asantewaa Engmann. The panelists highlighted three lessons which they learned during their careers and experience. They also discussed what women should do differently to help shift the paradigm and promote female empowerment in the workplace. The second part of the symposium featured a distinguished Emirati panel moderated by Farah Al Alami, Member of the AmCham Abu Dhabi Women in Business Committee. AmCham Abu Dhabi Celebrates American Independence Day AmCham Abu Dhabi celebrated the 242nd anniversary of the United States of America’s Declaration of Independence at its annual “4th of July” Celebration on Friday, July 6, 2018. This year we are celebrating AmCham Abu Dhabi’s Philadelphia theme. Hundreds of business leaders, U.A.E. and U.S. government officials, military officers, AmCham Abu Dhabi members, and the greater American community attended the celebration at Beach Rotana Abu Dhabi. The event included an official ceremony, posting of the colors and flag by the U.S. Marines, a cake cutting, dinner, games, balloon drop and dancing. Guests of honor, Cabinet Member and Minister of Tolerance, H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan and U.S. Embassy Abu Dhabi Charge d’Affaires, Steven Bondy, spoke about shared values and the importance of the U.S. - U.A.E. relationship. In his remarks, H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan said, “I am delighted to join you in celebrating Americas Independence Day. I greatly admire the stirring words in the preamble to your Declaration of Independence: We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. These are some of the most important and most memorable words ever written in the English language.” He added “Your Declaration of Independence clearly also inspired us in the United Arab Emirates. Our nation’s founder, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, whose centennial we celebrate this year, has sought to provide a safe place where all are considered equal. Where citizens and residents alike can pursue a better life. He established a spirit of tolerance that flourishes today under the leadership of His Highness the President, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.” Steven Bondy, Charge d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy said “Since our founding in 1776 in Philadelphia, the growth and success of the United States has been strengthened by the

international relationships we have forged with key friends and partners like the U.A.E.” During his welcome remarks, Sharief M. Fahmy, Chairman of AmCham Abu Dhabi, recognized both active and retired U.S. Military in the audience and thanked them for their service. He commented, “Each year we celebrate our nation’s patriotism and diversity with hundreds of guests from the U.S., U.A.E. and other nationalities from around the world. There is no better theme for the 2018 celebration than Philadelphia, known in the United States as the City of Brotherly Love, and as we continue to celebrate the Year of Zayed in U.A.E. The 4th of July celebration reminds us of many of the same principles our founders had in making both countries great. The U.S. and U.A.E. will always enjoy a strong bilateral relationship based on those strong common core values built by the founding fathers of both countries.” He also thanked AmCham Abu Dhabi Managing Director Theresa F. Weber for her leadership and Board Member Elias Sayah for his contributions as Chairman of the Programs Committee. The event ended with firework displays from across the U.S.A. and a balloon drop with guests dancing the night away. AmCham Abu Dhabi Corporate Social Responsibility AmCham Abu Dhabi made significant donations to four organizations as part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives in 2018. The donated funds were raised at the 8th Annual AmCham Excellence Awards and 18th Annual Charity Gala held on January 26, 2018. Charitable donations of this magnitude have been made by AmCham Abu Dhabi on a formal basis for the past 18 years, in keeping with AmCham’s commitment to promoting goodwill between the U.S. and U.A.E. by giving back to the community. Emirates Red Crescent: Established in 1983, The Emirates Red Crescent is the U.A.E.’s main relief and aid society. An AmCham delegation visited the Abu Dhabi headquarters in March to present a check in support of humanitarian projects. H.E. Rashed Mubarak Al Mansoori, Deputy Secretary General for Local Affairs, Emirates Red Crescent commented, “We would like to thank the initiative of AmCham Abu Dhabi for its continued support of the various activities of Emirates Red Crescent and its humanitarian programs. With the help and support of donors like AmCham Abu Dhabi, the programs and activities of Emirates Red Crescent are constantly expanding and spreading to areas that suffer from vulnerability.”

Make-A-Wish Foundation: Established in 2010, the U.A.E. chapter of The Make-A-Wish Foundation is dedicated to bringing joy, strength and hope to children living with life-threatening diseases. In March, Hani Al Zubaidi, CEO of Make-A-Wish Foundation U.A.E., received the AmCham delegation noting, “It is our pleasure to receive this generous donation from AmCham Abu Dhabi for the third consecutive year, which will support the foundation in reaching out to more children with life-threatening medical conditions. We are proud of our partnership with AmCham Abu Dhabi during the past years which has helped us grant wishes to hundreds of children in the U.A.E.”

St. Joseph’s School: Established in 1967, St. Joseph’s School is a primary to secondary school with an Indian curriculum that provides a high quality, affordable and value based education. In March, an AmCham delegation visited the school to present a scholarship check to Joseph Flynn, Managing Director of the St. Mary’s Group of Schools, which includes St. Joseph’s. Joseph Flynn thanked AmCham stating, ”We are very grateful to AmCham Abu Dhabi for their generous donation. AmCham Abu Dhabi’s continued support will help us provide financial aid to a number of students in need.”
