Spectacular View from a Perfect Location

B

eyond the essential “bed and broadband” expectations of hotels by business travelers, there are certain requirements that can elevate the experience above that of a chore and even render it a pleasure. Hong Kong’s Royal Pacific Hotel & Towers is a venue that exceeds those requirements. Located in the commercial heart and shopping hub of Tsim Sha Tsui, along the Canton Road, ‘The Royal’ is the only hotel in Hong Kong that is directly connected to the China-Macau Ferry Terminal and can be accessed via an enclosed walkway. Access to other transport, such as the MTR, is also quick and convenient: Kowloon station is basically a HK$20 taxi ride away, while Hung Hom station can take as little as 10 minutes to reach. The Airport Express is also no more than 20 minutes away and the Star Ferry

can be boarded in moments. Clearly, the hotel has the advantage over other business accommodation when it comes to location. It’s possible to pop over to the mainland for a full day’s business and even stay for dinner and still be back in Hong Kong in time to catch the late night news on TV before sinking into a sound night’s sleep in a blissfully comfortable bed [every Royal room bed has top-ofthe-range Sealy mattresses, soft goose feather duvets, a selection of pillows, and pure white cotton bed linen]. Precede that with relaxing in the spacious walk-in, glass-door shower or deep bathtubs, and you’ll be fit for anything the next morning.

Breathtaking view With its floor-to-ceiling windows, the hotel affords spectacular views over Victoria Harbour, Kowloon Park or the

city and the opportunity to watch the nightly laser light display from a unique vantage point – your room, so there’s no need to break a sweat in the street with the hoi polloi. The two-towered hotel has 673 very comfortable rooms and suites, including last year’s addition of 104 rooms on the upper four stories: the Pacific Grand Rooms and Deluxe Harbour View Rooms in the Towers Wing, which command either a city view or 180 degree breathtaking Victoria Harbour view. If, after a hard day’s work and/or sightseeing and shopping, an evening spent in the hotel offer a choice of three restaurants including a coffee shop Café on the Park serving all-day buffet, the Pierside Bar & Restaurant offering a wide selection of cocktails, champagnes, wines and bar food al fresco, and an Asian restaurant Satay Inn serving authentic Singaporean and Malaysian cuisine. There’s also a 24-hour gym, a business

centre and meeting spaces. Add to that the nearby shopping havens of Harbour City and the legendary Nathan Road, and the choice becomes a no-brainer. Frequent business travelers arriving from global locations as far afield as Sydney, London and New York and needing to reach destinations such as Zhuhai and Macau, will find a stay at The Royal Pacific Hotel & Towers, with its prime location and comprehensive amenities, more pleasurable than the alternatives. Kevin Chuc, General Manager of Royal Pacific Hotel & Tower, shares additional information about the hotel with biz.hk: biz.hk: What are the common features shared between Premier Plus and Deluxe Harbour View and what are their key differences? Chuc: These two types of guests rooms

are located on two different wings: Hotel Wing and Towers Wing. The Premier Plus Rooms, though compact in size, provides all essential amenities an overnight traveler needs: complimentary WiFi and iPod dock. Our Deluxe Harbour View Rooms at the Towers Wing on the other hand are very generous in size (35 sqm), they command stunning harbour view, spacious bathroom with separate shower and bath tub and comprehensive amenities. Of course WiFi and a large working desk is included. biz.hk: Business travelers today are highly demanding. They value privacy, business efficiency and work life balance. How does the hotel cater to their needs in this regard? Chuc: We provide guests staying at the club floors exclusive access to our club lounge and business centre. Guests can enjoy personlised check-in/ -out

service, breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails away from the crowd. Business travelers usually have a very tight schedule during the day. Therefore, our fitness centre is open 24/7 to bring greater convenience to them. biz.hk: Royal Pacific embraces alfresco dining in a big way. What are the choices available? Chuc: Both the Satay Inn and Pierside Bar & Restaurant provide alfresco dining because of our waterfront location. Satay Inn is our award-winning restaurant and people can enjoy authentic Singaporean and Malaysian food in a casual environment. Pierside is more on the stylish side with two levels – restaurant on the upper and bar on the lower level. On either level you get a nice view of the harbor, but our guests especially like chilling out at the bar where it’s open up to the waterfront.

Pampered, Enlightened and Satiated in Style

S

pa junkies – and those eager to experience one of the best there is locally – will really appreciate the steps the staff in the Bodhi Spa at the Conrad Hotel, Macau, take to ensure you feel extraordinarily relaxed and rejuvenated. If you only ever think of Macau as frenetic and a gambler’s paradise, then the spa – and indeed, the hotel itself – will come as a very pleasant surprise.

By Nadine Bateman

Enhanced well-being The word ‘bodhi’ means ‘enlightened and awakened’ and that’s certainly how you can feel after one of their unique signature massages, should you choose to. There also numerous other treatments designed to enhance different aspects of your well-being, which are a modern take on ancient traditions. The pampering begins the moment you step foot inside the spa which is located on the third floor of this sumptuous yet comparatively understated hotel that’s somewhat different from its gaudily decorated neighbors along the Cotai strip. There’s certainly no bling to be seen in the spa, which is a haven of tranquility that has been tastefully and thoughtfully decorated with muted

earth tones that give it the feel of an inviting, highly stylish cave. Guests are greeted warmly in the spacious reception lobby, before discussing their well-being needs with their assigned therapist in one of three private consultation rooms. From there, you can customize your own spa experience – you’d be well advised to starting as early as possible in order to fit as many treatments as you can into a day while also taking sufficient time between them to relax and enjoy the luxurious facilities. There’s an art to being pampered: get organized first, then you can just go with the flow. Bodhi Spa includes 10 very sophisticated spa suites: three deluxe suites for couples and two deluxe singles, in which each has a spa bath and private wet facility with steam/shower; and five single suites that include a private wet facility with steam/shower but not a bath. Amenities include a reflexology lounge offering purifying manicures, pedicures and reflexology, separate men’s and women’s relaxation lounges and a hair salon. Yes, that’s right, a men’s relaxation lounge. Spas are not the preserve of the female of our species, as some might assume, they can be the ideal way for men to shake off the cares and woes of corporate life and domestic responsibility. A few hours devoted to

recharging his batteries can have a dramatic effect on a man’s health in numerous ways. What the staff at Bodhi Spa like to promote is that they are there to facilitate your path to “being yourself”, by that they mean finding a way of experiencing the spa that is specific to your needs. To this end they offer a wide range of treatments that include 15 different massages that borrow elements from Aboriginal, Ayurvedic and Asian traditions. These include the amazing LI’TYA Kodo Massage, a 90-minute rhythmic body massage inspired by old Aboriginal techniques – which has to be experienced to be believed!

Dynasty 8 It’s surprising how a pampering session can stimulate your appetite for something special. And you don’t have far to go. There’s no need to venture out into the wonderful but ‘wired’ side of Macau when you’re feeling so relaxed and the delectable menu in the hotel’s Dynasty 8 restaurant on the ground floor is waiting to be savored. Overseen by celebrated executive chef Wong Man, Dynasty 8 serves up the finest Chinese cuisine. Wong has almost four decades of professional culinary experience, most recently serving as executive chef at the highly-regarded, two-Michelin-star Tim’s Kitchen in Hong Kong. In addition to having led some of the best dining spots in Hong Kong, demand for his skills has taken him to restaurants in Japan, Indonesia and Singapore – which received industry accolades under his direction. At Dynasty 8, traditional dishes from all over China are presented with flair and distinction. They include such mouthwatering [and healthy]

delights as an appetizer from northern China that comprises eggplant, marinated in soy sauce and black vinegar and garnished with brunoised red and yellow peppers, spring onion and minced raw garlic. From the south, enjoy a delicious fish maw soup with conpoy and mushroom – the portions were very generous and the soup was clear and with not a trace of grease. Dining in a Chinese restaurant wouldn’t be complete without ordering Peking Duck as a main course. At Dynasty 8, it is served in half portions and can be wrapped by diners or by the waiting staff who have two methods of slicing the duck: with crispy skin and minimal meat, while the breast is sliced as the French do it. Dynasty 8 also has an outstanding selection of wines as well as an extensive choice of teas – if you insist on being really healthy. Conrad Macao is conveniently connected to ferry terminals that are within a few minutes of the hotel, making it easy-to-reach for a weekend trip from Hong Kong and just a five-minute drive from Macau International Airport.
