MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN Dear Fellow Members: What an unforgettable event! Thank you for making our 2013 AmCham Ball – A Gala Night At Sea such a resounding success. Each year the AmCham Ball is a must-attend highlight of Hong Kong’s social calendar and this year was no exception. For the first time, we ventured to the Kowloon side and held the event at the opulent and glamorous Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong. The venue was truly superb, the staff hospitable and helpful, and all our guests treated like royalty as the Ritz-Carlton’s Executive Chef personally crafted an exquisite dinner menu paired with wines exclusively sponsored by Golden Gate Wine. A special thanks also to Sennheiser who sponsored the evening’s sound and entertainment and provided one of Hong Kong’s best DJs (DJ Costef ) and bands (Collective.HK) for our enjoyment. This ensured an enthusiastically packed dance floor with dancing well into the early hours – it was definitely a memorable party with world class music for our 400 guests! The mission of AmCham is to foster commerce among the United States, Hong Kong, and Mainland China and to enhance Hong Kong’s stature as an international business center. While we take our mission seriously, we also make time to put aside business to showcase one of the best events in town. This year’s Ball was our best yet! This success would not have been possible without the tireless effort and countless hours of input from our Ball Committee under the leadership of Chair Rex Engelking, Vice-Chair Kay Kutt, and the ever-professional AmCham staff led by Director of Events Mary Simpson. In addition, each year the AmCham Ball helps raise funds to support the AmCham Charitable Foundation. The Foundation supports local charities, recognizes outstanding high school students in local schools, and gives partial scholarship support for a few exceptional local students studying in the US. This year, we had great success again with our Silent Auction and were able to raise a substantial amount for the Foundation. Once again, thanks to FunRaising Events Ltd who oversaw the auction and to all who bid so generously. The 33rd Annual AmCham Ball was an evening of spectacular romance and glamour at the Ritz-Carlton as 400 guests “sailed away” onboard a luxury cruise liner for an unforgettable “night at sea” in the golden era of the 1920s. Guests were treated to a night of cocktails, premium wines and sumptuous fine dining with a menu prepared exclusively by Ritz-Carlton’s Executive Chef, as well as entertainment by one of Hong Kong’s best live bands, in addition to a chance to win fabulous prizes and travel packages to exotic destinations in a lucky draw. It was also a night of fundraising for AmCham’s Charitable Foundation, for which a silent auction was held throughout the evening, with a wide range of highly-sought-after items and rare, signed memorabilia.
