Integrating East and West YCIS combines the best of Eastern and Western cultures by promoting fluency in two major world languages, creating a truly bilingual learning environment, providing courses of study in Eastern and Western philosophy. Co-Principals and Co-Teaching Models Two Co-Principals, one Western and one Chinese, serve as partners in the operations and administration of the school. In addition, two fully-qualified teachers, one Western and one Chinese, together plan lessons and conduct classes in the Early Childhood Education and Primary School, and providing excellent role models who respect and value one another’s culture. YCIS Education Programme

• • • •

A Bilingual focus within a multicultural environment will give your child the global mindset and intercultural competence they need for the 21st Century. Unique Co-Teaching and Co-Principals models help students to learn two cultures and give equal emphasis to both English and Chinese. YCIS integrates Character Formation programmes into our curriculum, focusing on developing positive qualities. Strong music programme enhances children’s reasoning skills, develops memory span, concentration and coordination. YCIS maintains 100% university placement with students admitted to top universities in Hong Kong and overseas.

YCIS’s international curriculum is based on the learning criteria and framework from the National Curriculum for England (NCE). The research based curriculum allows high standards and ease of transition for international students.

GUIDE TO MOVING TO HK: EDUCATION

Avendale International Kindergarten Parkside Campus: 101-103, The Parkside Mall, 18 Tong Chun Street, Tseung Kwan O Harmony Garden Campus: Kindergarten, Harmony Garden, 9 Siu Sai Wan Road, Chai Wan Sai Wan Campus. 1-2 Floor, 554-560 Queen’s Road West, Sai Wan

Reggio Emilia inspired learning environments Through engaging learning environments and a childcentred pedagogy, Avendale sparks the innate curiosity in children to ensure they grow into lifelong learners. Engaged children drive their learning, create their knowledge, and develop innovative thinking skills. Avendale believes that academics are vital, but alone are insufficient for preparing future leaders. Therefore, they instil moral strength and character to empower children in becoming productive and upright members of their community. Campuses are located in Tseung Kwan O, Siu Sai Wan and Sai Wan.

Child-centred emergent curriculum

Holistic early childhood education

Pre-Nursery and Kindergarten classes are half-day sessions and are informal in structure, but follow a rigorous childcentred educational program that aims to actively observe each child, listening and actively responding to their questions, interests and stories. Each child is immersed in a bilingual environment (English and Mandarin) with both a native English and Mandarin teacher supporting them. Avendale draws upon the Hong Kong Kindergarten curriculum guidelines and the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) framework to support and localize a curriculum in order to prepare students for the future.

Avendale offers playgroups that are led by professional educators who are native speakers of either English, Mandarin, or French. A variety of enrichment programmes and creative play explorations are also available for young children to expand their creativity and explore diverse interests. GUIDE TO MOVING TO HK: HEALTHY LIVING

Mindful Wing Chun 8/F On Lan Centre, 11-15 On Lan Street, Central

Mindful Wing Chun is dedicated to passing on the true essence of Wing Chun Kung Fu, which has been passed down by the late Grandmaster Chu Shong Tin, one of the best martial artists and greatest teachers. Being a 2nd generation Ip Man school, we have direct links to the Wing Chun family tree that can be traced back to Fo Shan and then to the original Master Ng Mui. Our school believes that the true essence of martial arts is to promote personal growth, inner balance and healing. Wing Chun is more than just a martial art. It is a way of life. Our mission is teaching students to utilize Wing Chun; so they can live mindfully and develop increased focus and relaxation. By introducing correct and efficient movement patterns, Wing Chun will become a practice that enhances our students’ everyday lives on both a physical and mental level.

The future generation of martial artists reside in our Kids Kung Fu division. Children learn to develop their coordination, self-defense, teamwork and life skills through discussion, experience, and games. Our goal is for children to discover the most mindful and balanced way of life for themselves while they develop respectful communication and harmonious interaction with others. All classes are taught in English by our highly experienced instructors. This opens the door for non-Chinese speakers to learn Wing Chun and experience its culture, philosophy and traditions. Here at Mindful, we maintain a safe and supportive family-style environment where students of all ages can meet new friends and learn to cultivate a mindful way of life. Ultimately, we believe that our job is to assist our students on their journey towards self-awareness and character development. We are passionate about spreading this incredible practice to as many people as we can!
