Accent Contracting 2016 Home Builders Association of F-M President The Fall Parade of Homes offers a chance for you to see what our Home Builders Association of Fargo-Moorhead members have to offer by way of new homes on the market. You can see, touch and experience all the latest trends by taking advantage of the Parade’s two weekends: Sept. 17-18 and 24-25, noon - 5 p.m. each day. Better yet, many of the builders and trade contractors who constructed the homes will be available during the Parade. If you visited the Spring Parade of Homes, you probably noticed some exciting new features we launched by working with Paradetix. It’s the same for this event:

This year’s cover features a home built by Dietrich Homes, Inc., in 2016. The two-story home was designed and decorated by Dietrich Homes. It has a mainfloor master suite, office, sunroom, vaulted ceiling and a professional kitchen. It’s designed for entertaining with a lower-level walk-out and theater, pool table, pub-style bar, lounge and covered patio. It was a “featured home” on the 2016 Spring Parade of Homes to raise money for Home Builders Care Foundation. Clay Dietrich owns Dietrich Homes, Inc.,

luxurious featured homes The Parade of Homes’ luxurious featured homes have raised funds since 2003 for Home Builders Care of F-M. Over the years, nearly $125,000 has beed raised for Home Builders Care, which is the HBA of F-M’s charity that supports scholarships and projects related to housing, like Habitat for Humanity and construction of handicapaccessible ramps.

Two HBA of F-M member have volunteered their entries for this year’s event. Here is a sneak peek at the homes and just a few of their fantastic features. Featured homes must be priced $750,000 or more and must be a first-time entry on the Parade. The cost is $5 to tour both homes on this year’s Fall Parade of Homes.

Monarch Homes | $870,500 4717 Chokecherry Ct W, West Fargo • The Wilds at Westport As of press time, Monarch Homes #9 was still being finished. Here’s a peek at what it looked like on Aug. 15 during installation of siding, flooring and cabinets. Stop by to see how it turned out, complete with all the finishing touches of décor by Scheels Home & Hardware.

This Monarch Homes’ Craftsman/cottage-style rambler is full of ambiance: it feels rustic, comfortable and classic with exposed beams, accompanied by a dropped ceiling wrapped in reclaimed wood. It’s also spacious, with vaulted ceilings and an open design, catering to the flow of your day-to-day activities. Monarch Homes’ co-owner Ryan Johnson says, “Not only will this home’s character make you feel warm, it has advanced technology to keep you and your family safe with a home security system. Help is just a few minutes away, whether it’s to assist with a home intrusion, fire or medical emergency. The large touch screen is very user-friendly and works together with a mobile app, either Apple or Android.” As with previous luxurious Featured Homes on the Parade, Monarch strives to put new twists out there for potential buyers. This house features a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace in the great room, as well as reclaimed wood beams and paneling from ICSS Supply Company, and barn doors and saloon doors by Grain Designs. The upscale master bath has a gorgeous barrel-vault ceiling, custom tile shower, stand-alone soaking tub and two walk-in closets. It features granite counters, a chandelier, recessed can lighting and sconce lighting, along with Delta fixtures. “As you head downstairs, you’ll experience fun for the whole family,” Johnson says. “The home has a theater with stage, seating for seven, and full wet bar with saloon doors - just to add a touch of whimsy and fun.”See the home’s description and rendering on page 36. Footitt Homes’ owner Bob Footitt, Jr., points out that Parade attendees will notice a difference as they approach his home in Fargo’s Eagle Pointe. With unique details on the porch columns, the herringbone pattern on the porch top, and limestone step treads, this modern Craftsman 2-story home is a study of intricacies. “Our specialty is designing and building unique, one-of-a-kind homes,” Footitt says. “I am very proud to say we have never built the same home twice in 13 years!” The home’s interior is designed by

Reed Malm, CID, who has a master’s degree in fine arts and an extensive knowledge of antiques, decorative arts, accessories, fabrics and fine furniture. The warmth of the design shines through, with Footitt Homes attention to craftsmanship, custom trim, designer doors and specialty hardware. Footitt says, “One feature in this home, that you won’t see in others, is a curvedglass shower in the master bath.” The $10,000 door pairs with exquisite tile and dual shower heads to be the showpiece of the master. Other features include a three-

panel door with rain glass inserts, a linen cabinet and floor heat throughout. The main level features brushed oak hardwood and an open kitchen with quartz countertops and black stainless steel appliances. The lower level includes space for entertaining with two bar areas, a dining area and seating for watching movies on the 75” screen. Cabinet details with wire mesh hide the audio technology. 1. Always check to see if the contractor you are considering, local or transient, is licensed in the state in which work will be performed. Construction offers lucrative future to area students Home Builders Care Foundation offers resources, scholarships Is your son or daughter interested in the construction trades? The Labor Department remains upbeat on the construction trades sector, predicting overall employment growth of 13.6 percent, or almost 520,000 new jobs by the year 2024, according to U.S. News & World Report in January. Plumbers, electricians, carpenters, painters and construction managers will be needed to build new structures and update existing buildings. Locally, the construction industry has been very stable and steady. Group showcases industry through events, assists with charitable projects Remodelers Council is a group of Home Builders Association of F-M members that deals with issues affecting the remodeling segment of the building industry. It holds meetings every other month for networking, informative sessions and conducting council business. The Council was formed in 1990 and plans and coordinates the Remodeled Home Tour. Council members regularly lend their efforts to charitable projects and build handicap accessibility ramps. Past projects include constructing bunk beds for the Gladys Ray Shelter in Fargo and assisting with the Home Builders Care Builds with Habitat for Humanity in 2012 and 2014.

Giving back… With funding from Bell Bank’s Pay It Forward program, HBA of F-M Remodelers Council members helped a Christine, N.D., home owner in May by remodeling her bathroom left in disrepair by an unlicensed contractor. The project was managed by HBA of F-M Remodelers Council member Stone Ridge Builders, Inc. HBA members Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Showroom, Lampert Lumber, Laney’s, Inc., Precision Plumbing, Electric, Heating & Cooling, Inc. and Sherwin Williams Co. provided products, materials and labor at a discount for the project.

Delores Kramlich’s ordeal began when she paid a friend $1,200 to remodel her bathroom. He started the work, but never finished, leaving her without a shower, with leaky plumbing and rotted-out floors. After her story aired on local media in April 2015, the contractor refunded Kramlich’s money, but her bathroom remained in disrepair. In March, Bell Bank contacted the HBA of F-M about assisting with finishing the bathroom. Kramlich had to flush the toilet with water in a bucket and took sponge baths for almost two years due to her dilapidated bathroom. She could not leave the water on in her home due to leaking pipes, and had to turn the water on and off several times a day by accessing it in the basement. She says, “It’s wonderful to have the bathroom functioning and I’m very appreciative of the work. I just had my 78th birthday so I’m looking forward to a shower and working plumbing again!” The words of a volunteer say it all: “There is no better feeling than working together as a team to assist someone in need. The look we get, and appreciation expressed by those we help, is priceless,” says Terry Lipp, Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Showroom. Lipp is HBA of F-M Remodelers Council vice chairman

and regularly volunteers to help build wheelchair accessibility ramps for area residents. “Giving back to the community is personally rewarding and to do this with members of the Council makes it even more special,” he says. “The value we bring by enhancing a person’s quality of life and the fact that they are able to stay in their home is extremely gratifying. What other choice would these people have? It is great to know that we do make a difference.”

Public events highlight industry Through the Remodeled Home Tour, the Council aims to highlight industry members. The Tour is held the second weekend of the Fall Parade of Homes, this year Sept. 24-25. It features area remodeling projects, offering a way for Remodelers to show off their work and for home owners to get ideas for updating kitchens, bathrooms, basements and more.
