Elizabeth Academy is a private, non-profit inclusive Montessori school that serves children from Infancy through Early Childhood and Elementary (infant-6th grade). It is located at 2870 S. combined, ours is an amazing holistic program which enhances critical thinking and growth for all students at all levels of ability. Inclusion at our school means much more than just “special needs”. We are a diverse community and also a fully accredited school with a curriculum catering to highly academic, college-bound students. This is inclusion. Montessori is an essential element of inclusion, offering flexibility within multi-age-grouped classrooms and integrated programming. Early intervention and integrated services incorporate therapies into the classrooms to support all students. Education Entrepreneur In 1960, while teaching in a public school, Challenger School founder and CEO Barbara Baker became alarmed that her first grade students had received no academics in kindergarten and that their best years for establishing a foundation for learning were being wasted. Barbara decided to leave the comfort of the public schools to start her own preschool where she could teach phonics to children before they went to public school. “I figured that if they learned phonics in preschool, no one could take that away from them.” In Barbara’s first class, there were only six paying students. Two years later,

Established in 1977, the Open Classroom is a teacher-directed, parent supported, childcentered, K - 8th grade charter school. Our Classrooms... • The Open Classroom is a parent-cooperative school. Each class is led by a district certified teacher and supported by weekly parent participation.
