Today, as we participate in the 68th parade, I can’t help but admire the ingenuity of those early members and wonder what they would think about how this idea spread across the nation. Our builders compete to find new products and design better living spaces, which improve lifestyle across all living accommodations. As you dream with us while you walk through each home, you will quickly find “New Possibilities and Creative Ideas.” Our founding members joined together to protect private property rights and foster a healthy free market. Those ideals haven’t changed. Today, our members are actively engaged on the local, state, and national levels, assisting deciding leaders to ensure our communities are strong. Salt Lake’s Home Builders fulfill more than one dream… As you may have heard, in this year’s Salt Lake Parade of Homes™ we have built “playhouses.” Our thought has been two fold. First: Not all will have an opportunity in life to participate in the “American Dream” of homeownership, and second: There may be a way for us to raise money for those in need with a playhouse exhibit. Three member builders volunteered to participate: Breen Homes, Cowboy Partners, and McArthur Homes, who each have built and donated their playhouse. These playhouses will be presented to the public and sold through an auction with 100% of the proceeds going to charity. This is made possible through partners such as Mountain America Credit Union, our playhouse sponsor. The Home Builder Association is building a playhouse as well, with materials and labor donated by members. Breen Homes built an ice castle made to represent Elsa’s home in the movie Frozen. The charity receiving proceeds from its sale is Primary Children’s Hospital, which has for over ninety years helped children, families, and communities across the western United States. PCH ranks among the best children’s hospitals. Cowboy Partners built a cabin made to represent Jerimiah Johnson’s home. The charity receiving proceeds from its sale is Huntsman Cancer Institute, which serves cancer

McArthur Homes built a firehouse made to fill the dream of a young fireman. The charity receiving proceeds from its sale is a scholarship fund designed for a specialized trade. As an industry, we realize the continuing need for craftsman, but not all who desire to participate in can because of financial limitations. We want to assist where we can.

The charity receiving proceeds from its sale is Make a Wish Utah, which every thirty-eight minutes grants the wish of a child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition. MAW grants wishes that change the lives of the kids they serve. Each of these playhouses has been created beyond what we had hoped for; they are meant to bring a smile on the face of our youth, inspiring them in fulfilling dreams—which they are.
