2016: DESIGN TRENDS
WHAT’S NEW? Recently, Osmond Designs’ team of designers returned from the country’s largest furniture and accessory market. They were excited to see the new introductions by the best manufacturers in the country (many were designed and sold to Utah’s Osmond Designs stores exclusively). Here Heather Osmond shares the top five hottest design trends we will see in 2016. Visit Osmond Designs throughout the year to create the home of your dreams. 1. Color
You don’t have to reinvent your home to be current. Pile on the pillows (use two pairs in contrasting colors, patterns and textures), colorful art, lamps, paint and throw blankets to add style and luxury to any space.
2. Let there be light
Four lamps are better than two. You need direct light for reading and ambient light to create the right mood. The result will be vibrant. You can also add a large mirror opposite a window to open up a room and double the amount of light and also increase the illusion of added space.
3. Decorate with texture
The best rooms have a balance of warm, cozy feel and sleek metals, mirrors and glass. In a room with hardwood or tile floors, use textured upholstery and/or fluffy rugs.
4. Draw inspiration from nature
Shells, stones, birch branches, feathers and cotton blossoms are just a few of nature’s best in home decor. They can be easily displayed in vases, glass canisters and trays. They will liven up any space.
5. Show off your accessories We like to think of accessories as the frosting on the cake. Carefully choose picture frames, clocks, canisters and bookends in the appropriate style and color for your home. Then, group them in odd numbers, staggering heights and varied colors and shapes for the most appealing look.

TASK LIGHTING Proper task lighting an important element when designing certain spaces. It is especially crucial for sitting areas and bedrooms for completing a task, like reading. A great benefit to task lighting is that there are so many artistic lamps available to be a beautiful statement piece in the daylight, when not in use, and acts as functional art in the evening. UP A ROOM
by Kristen Rockwood, Studio 7 Interior Design
Lighting is one of the most important elements to consider when decorating a space, as proper lighting in a room can enhance the home atmosphere. Truly, any room in the home can benefit from some great lighting options. TASK LIGHTING Task lighting refers to most lamps including this feminine table lamp from Tuesday Morning
AMBIENT LIGHTING ACCENT LIGHTING This is referring to candles, sconces or mood lighting. This isn’t a crucial lighting element, but in the right spaces are a perfect accent and create a beautiful atmosphere. Putting hardwired sconces on a dimmer switch in hallways or foyers is always a functional idea that can make a space feel luxurious. Proper lighting in a home can make such a difference and will up ones spirits, clear ones head, and make a home feel like a more welcoming, happier place. Elise Candle Sconce, Ballard Designs $59 6

This mainly consists of any hard, overhead, ceiling mounted light fixtures. A lot of homes have the standard flush mount fixtures that often times are too small scale for the space, which in turn isn’t properly lighting a room. Putting a better scaled fixture that allows more light in the room will add so much ambiance. The most important rooms in the home that Ambient lighting is crucial are the kitchen and the bathrooms. WALLPAPER-TRIANGLES/ DARK WALL FABRIC Once something that maintained a “see, but don’t touch” status, today’s textures and textiles say otherwise. As the desire for vintage grows, so do the choices, offering modern patterns and colors in purely touchable lusciousness. Jewel Pearl by Julien MacDonald, Graham Brown, $85.00

ADDING DIMENSION by J’Nel Wright
Forget semi-gloss and neutral eager-to-please shades. These days, we like our walls rough, flawed, touchable, and unflinchingly bold. Today’s trends highlight our imperfections and the look is contrastingly flawless. This season, we seek guidance from textiles past with aged bleached wood, cracked paint in earthy yet grounding tones, unpredictable surfaces and loud statements of color and patterns.

Don’t let the surface of a temperamental wall prevent you from adding color. Today’s bold shades celebrate the uneven, cracked texture of aged surfaces. Welcome home! Barrel clock, CF Home Furniture & Design at Gardner Village, $239

INSPIRATION by J’Nel Wright
Style trends may come and go with the seasons, but one style that is never left out in the cold is bringing outdoor elements into interior design. Deep greens, rich auburn, rugged tans and romantic blues easily marry outdoor elements with every room in your home. Simple accents such as a friendly burlap pillow or a saucy cowhide throw rug require little commitment but offer instant impact. Go ahead. It’s natural.
FUR/EMBELLISHED/EMBROIDERED PILLOWS Many believe the softer the pillow the sweeter the dreams. These pillows are sure to bring on visions of sugarplums in no time. Throw pillows, $40-150, CF Home Furniture & Design. Embroidered pillows, $26.00-40.00, Aunt Elsie’s Trinkets & Treasures, West Jordan.

Luxury Meets the Great Outdoors AT VICTORY RANCH
By Spencer Edwards
O
n the edge of Utah’s Wasatch Mountains, just minutes from Park City and Deer Valley, lies the private, four-season residential community, Victory Ranch. Set along a majestic stretch of the Upper Provo River and amidst 6,700 pristine acres of rolling hills, Victory Ranch is a place where active families escape from the everyday and reconnect with nature’s untouched beauty. At Victory Ranch, homeowners enjoy a boundless array of adventure and lifestyle amenities, including exclusive access to a celebrated Rees Jonesdesigned golf course, a ski-in/ski-out lounge in the heart of Park City, a family clubhouse with pool and fitness center, riverside dining at the Freestone Lodge and a host of kid-centric activities. Originally conceived as one of the lowest density communities in all of Park City, the developer, Sterling Bay, has elected to reduce density further from 700 homes to approximately 350, providing unmatched exclusivity for a legacy home. The majority of homes at Victory Ranch are being constructed on remarkable one- to four-acre lots within walking distance of core amenities. The demand for luxury mountain living at Victory Ranch has never been greater than now. Already this year, 61 cabin homes and estate homesites have either been reserved or sold, representing approximately $62 million in sales.
The Post is Victory Ranch’s new community centerpiece, featuring a fully-equipped Outfitter’s store, fitness studio, family lounge and game room, and a heated outdoor pool and hot tubs.
With the increased sales pace, the developer has released new homesites and cabin home collections and has introduced new amenities to enhance the Victory Ranch lifestyle.

This Fall, Victory Ranch opens its newest amenity The Post, and it will soon break ground on The Barn, which is set to include an indoor gymnasium/activity area with tennis and paddle tennis courts, a swimming pool, restaurant and a state-of-the-art fitness center and spa facility.
The true beauty of the community at Victory Ranch can be found in the quality of the people who call it home. They appreciate authenticity in all things and value the lifestyle and experiences that living in such a special place affords them.

his home is a rarity in the depths of Holladay’s Cottonwood trees. A deviation from the classical, traditional, or even transitional style, this contemporary style home is made beautiful by its forms, carefully selected materials, and thoughtfully placed color. The conception of such a stunning, unique home, takes trusting and inspired homeowners, paired with a team of talented and dedicated professionals. John Shirley of Think Architecture designed the stunning forms, shapes, and layout. Liz Wixom and Kimberly Rasmussen of Elizabeth Kimberly Design, selected the finish materials and all of the furnishings and décor in this expansive home. Their talented, precise vision guided Jackson & LeRoy as they built each detail to perfection. Every feature of this home is exquisitely designed and created. Even the powder room with its metallic gold walls, and the quarter-sawn dark walnut stair treads possess an exclusive quality. The impressive entertaining and gathering
areas of the home tie each of these details together. The owners love to entertain and creating a home that flowed well from space to space, indoors to outdoors, was critical in the design. Shirley’s floor plan marries the indoor and outdoor entertaining areas perfectly. Nearly every room in the home borders the courtyard and pool. A view of the nearby mountains and Mount Olympus can be seen from a variety of vantage points as well. This design creates the perfect flow for entertaining. Upon arriving, guests are greeted into a brightly lit, yet secluded entry. The rough limestone walls and oversized painting make an immediate impression. With the turn of a corner, guests are both enveloped by, and lost in the great room and kitchen. The six foot wide flame of the fire is unobstructed by glass, while the natural walnut shiplap fireplace hood ascends 14 feet to, and along, the ceiling. This beautiful fireplace is made entirely of Calcutta marble and quarter-sawn dark walnut. Opposite the fireplace,
large doors and two-story windows invite the outdoors in. Just beyond the great room couches and loungers is a magnificent 11-foot waterfall-style island. The island is made of multiple pieces of marble formed together to create a four-inch thick slab. With chairs down both sides, this island can seat ten people. A second island with a built-in sink and two dishwashers sits just beyond the marble island, with a large Viking range as the centerpiece of the far wall. his stunning Herriman home, built by Edge Homes and designed by Stephanie Holdaway and Chanelle Anderson of Gatehouse no.1 Furniture & Design and Kate Heath of Edge Homes, is the perfect destination for a simplistic and modern home. You’ll love the way the living space throughout the main areas feels much larger than it actually is. Guests will be taken aback by the organic style created by the soft textures, rich neutrals and combination of natural grays, mineral blues and herbal greens that are then mixed with the sharp contrast of blacks and whites. This creates a calming and livable feel with a dash of drama and interest throughout the main floor. The large windows bring in the natural
light, which is repeated throughout the interior to both soften all of the clean modern lines as well as keep a fluidity between all the interconnected rooms on the main floor. Entertaining will be an enjoyable experience with its open floor plan with the living room adjoined to the dine-in kitchen. There is plenty of furniture to create warm and comfortable areas that you can live and relax in. The comfortable poofs can double as both seats and footstools for lounging, while the comfy wing chairs in the office can become captains chairs at the dining table when it is extended. elebrating its 67th year, Huetter Mill and Cabinet, Inc, continues their tradition of quality, craftsmanship, and service that began in 1948. The company offers wholesale and retail millwork and stair parts for commercial, remodel, and new home construction. They can also supply installation for all your stair or molding projects. As a leader in Utah’s building community, Huetter Mill provides competitive prices, backed by the finest service and competent, trained employees. “We pride ourselves on our craftsmanship” says Gordon Huetter, CEO. “After 67 years in business, we have found that not only do our customers demand our high quality, but they have come to appreciate the level of service we provide. We demand our team be properly trained and motivated to provide superior customer service throughout the customer experience.” Huetter Mill and Cabinet had a humble beginning. Its founder Alfred Huetter, a young German immigrant, found his way to Utah with his family at the age of 17. Alfred gained his experience at Salt Lake Mill. As he developed his skills in fine wood craftsmanship he explored other millwork and furniture projects. This led to the start of his own business in his back yard, making window sashes. From Alfred Huetter’s early efforts in the 1930’s and 40’s, the company has expanded from the chicken coup in the backyard business to a multi-million dollar company, with a 65,000-square-foot facility, under the management of Gordon Huetter. Its current facility, at 4730 South 500 West in Murray, maintains a spacious showroom and warehouse for customers to explore a world of options. Huetter Mill and Cabinet has on-hand over one-million dollars worth of inventory and more than 158 different profiles of molding in oak, maple, poplar, alder, knotty alder, and cherry. You can choose from crown moldings, casing, baseboard, chair rail, panel molding, and plant on moldings. To complement its line of moldings and

Huetter Mill and Cabinet produces and installs the finest custom straight and circular stairways, as well as stair parts for the do-ityourself projects. As a family owned company since 1948, Huetter Mill and Cabinet is dedicated to providing builders and homeowners with the highest quality, service, and craftsmanship, in the industry.
