North Korea steps up activity at its nuclear site, South says Seoul, South Korea (CNN) -- North Korea has stepped up activity at its main nuclear test site, possibly preparing to carry out a fourth underground blast, South Korea said Tuesday. The report comes just days before U.S. President Barack Obama is due to arrive in South Korea as part of a visit to several Asian Countries. "We confirm that we have spotted several activities related to the nuclear test in Punggye-ri in North Korea," the South Korean Defense Ministry said
in a statement. It declined to specify what the activities were, saying the information was classified. The ministry said it had increased its military preparedness since Monday morning and was monitoring around the clock for signs of activity at the Punggye-ri site in a northeastern region of NorthKorea. North Korea said last month that it wouldn't rule "a new form of a nuclear test" to strengthen its nuclear deterrent. Experts have speculated that that could refer to the testing of a uranium bomb. 3 previous tests The reclusive regime in Pyongyang is known to have conducted three previous tests, all of them believed to be based on plutonium. The most recent one took place February 2013. The past tests prompted international condemnation and the imposition of sanctions aimed at hampering the North's weapons program. Since the last underground detonation, South Korean officials have repeatedly said that they believe North Korea is ready to carry out another test at any time, pending a political decision to go ahead with it. "A lot of activity is currently being seen, so our forces are keeping in mind the possibility that North Korea may suddenly conduct a nuclear

test in a short period of time, or as in previous cases, deceive us with what appears to be a nuclear test," Kim Min-seok, a spokesman for the South Korean Defense Ministry said Tuesday, according to the local news agency Yonhap. Obama visit 'dangerous' The reports of activity come ahead of Obama's South Korean visit, which begins Friday. The North Korean Foreign Ministry on Monday described Obama's trip as "a reactionary and dangerous one as it is aimed to escalate confrontation and bring dark clouds of a nuclear arms race to hang over this unstable region." North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un's regime carried out a series of missile and rocket launches in March, prompting condemnation from the U.N. Security Council. An artillery exercise on March 31 near the border with South Korea resulted in a brief exchange of fire between the two sides after North Korean ordnance landed in South Korean waters. North Korea's series of provocative acts were seen as a response to joint U.S.-South Korean military drills in the region. The exercises take place each spring and regularly draw angry reactions from Pyongyang.
general of NATO. In a question-and-answer session with a small group of reporters, Vershbow said Russia's annexation of Crimea and its apparent manipulation of unrest in eastern Ukraine have fundamentally changed the NATO-Russia relationship. "In central Europe, clearly we have two different visions of what European security should be like," Vershbow, a former U.S. diplomat and former Pentagon official, said. "We still would defend the sovereignty and freedom of choice of Russia's neighbors, and Russia clearly is trying to re-impose hegemony and limit their sovereignty under the guise of a defense of the Russian world."

optimum level of sugar and protein. These nutrients are needed, especially in the early hours of the day, as they prevent brain degeneration according to the World Health Organization
The brain is the place where ideas, goals, feelings and where our movement and even breathing are coordinated. However, there are habits or circumstances, that imperceptible, are damaging our health. According to a study by neuroscientists at the University Pompeu Fabra, the brain is active even if it is believed that it is at rest. This is because it meets certain patterns or spatial networks called resting state networks. Here are the top 8 worst thing that can damage your brain
3. Sleeping little. According to a study published by the Journal of Neuroscience, sleep increases the reproduction of cells involved in the formation of myelin, the insulating material on projections of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.
1. Covering your head while you sleep. When you sleep with the head covered increases the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the brain. This causes harmful effects in the main body of the human being. 2. Skipping breakfast. People who skip breakfast do not have an
4. Lack of physical activity. Research published in the journal Neurobiology of Aging, suggests that exercise can change the structure and functioning of the brain, it keeps you healthy. 5. High in sugar. Too much sugar will interrupt the absorption of proteins. If the body does not properly consume various nutrients, brain development is interfered by poor diet. 6. Forcing the brain during illness. Work or study hard when one is sick is very harmful to the human being. Do this frequent this habit will lead
to a decline in the effectiveness of the body in the long term. It is advisable to rest when one is poor health. 7. Violent reactions or stress. You must try to avoid any surprise or stress reaction, as it causes hardening of the brain arteries. If they are fortified, mental capacity diminishes with time. 8. An environments with pollution. The brain is the organ that consumes more oxygen. If you are a long time in a contaminated site, the oxygen supply to the brain is decreased. Consequently there would be a cerebral deficiency.

HIP Board Announces Unity Walk The Board of Directors of the Hazleton Integration Project, Inc. announced the creation of Hazleton’s first Unity Walk to be held Sunday, May 18th at 2:00 PM. The purpose of the 1.1 mile walk that begins and ends at the Hazleton One Community Center, is to gather as many people together as possible to display their solidarity with the idea that Hazleton will be a stronger community when everyone works together. “We believe that the city of Hazleton is poised to take a quantum leap forward,” said Bob Curry, HIP Board President. “Our recent experience is telling us that so much of the tension and miscommunication between our long standing population and our newcomers is really starting to fade. The unity walk should send a powerful visual signal to everyone both inside and outside our community that Hazleton is coming together and that our best days are still in front of us.” There is no charge to participate in the walk, and free bib numbers will be available to every walker who wants to be identified as part of this effort. Refreshments will be served at the Center at the end of the walk to all of the participants. “Everyone is welcome to join the Unity Walk who believes that our city’s strength ultimately lies in our diversity and our own ability to accommodate change,” said Eugenio Sosa, Executive Director of the Center.” In addition to individuals and families, corporate and business participation is also encouraged. Tee shirts will be available for sale through preorder in advance of the walk by contacting the Hazleton One Community Center at (570) 861-8081 or through email at hazletonintegrationproject@gmail. com.

Justin Bieber can't go a day without dram: Detained at L.A. Airport The latest in the 20-year-old singer's life is that he was held up in customs at Los Angeles International Airport for a reported five hours after arriving on an Air Singapore flight from Tokyo on Thursday afternoon. We also have no further information about what customs officers grilled the pop star about. When he finally was able to leave the airport around 6:20 p.m., Justin was clearly more than ready. During 1905, he published five important works in the Annalen der Physik (Annals of Physics) the first of which earned him a doctoral degree from the University of Zurich, and the remaining four eventually impose a radical change in the image that science offers of the universe.
By: Carlos Rodriguez E = MC ² (energy equals mass times the speed of light squared) this, without doubt, is the most famous equation in science and perhaps the most famous equation in the world. Albert Einstein is and will be one of the most admired men in the world of science. His revolutionary theory of special relativity among many others scientific papers published in 1905 led him to the pinnacle of success and made him one of the most famous scientists of all time. Albert Einstein was born in the Bavarian town of Ulm on March 14, 1879. He was the eldest son of Hermann Einstein and Pauline Koch, both Jews, whose families came from Swabia. Little Albert was very quiet and a reserved child, who had a very slow intellectual development. Einstein himself attributed the slowness of his personality to the fact that he was the only person to develop a theory like relativity "a normal adult is not disturbed by the problems posed by space and time, always has the belief to know everything since his/her early childhood. I, on the other hand, I had a so slow development that I have begun to wonder questions about space and time until I was older. "
Einstein’s special relativity theory solved the problems opened by Michelson and Morley experiment which had shown that electromagnetic waves are moving light in the absence of a medium. The speed of light is, therefore, constant and not related to motion. Einstein's effort placed him immediately among the most eminent of European physicists, but public recognition of the true extent of his theories was long to coming;
Science
Albert Einstein
Of these, the first work provided a theoretical explanation, in statistical terms, of Brownian motion, and the second was an interpretation of the photoelectric effect based on the assumption that light is composed of individual quanta’s, later called photons, the two remaining jobs laid the foundations of the theory of relativity, establishing the equivalence between the energy E of a certain quantity of matter and its mass m, in terms of the famous equation E = mc ², where c is the speed of light, which is assumed constant.
the Nobel Prize in Physics, which was awarded in 1921, was exclusively "for his work on Brownian motion and its interpretation of the photoelectric effect". In 1909, he began his university teaching career in Zurich, then going back to Prague and back to Zurich in 1912 to become a professor at the Polytechnic, where he had made his studies. In 1914 he went to Berlin as a member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences. In scientific terms, his activity was centered between 1914 and 1916, in the improvement of the general theory of relativity, based on the assumption that gravity is not a force but a field created by the presence of a mass in the space-time continuum. The confirmation of his predictions came in 1919, where it was able to photograph the solar eclipse of May 29; The Times magazine introduced him as the new Newton and his international fame grew, forcing him to multiply his outreach conferences worldwide. From 1933, with Hitler's accession to power, his loneliness was compounded by the need to renounce his German citizenship and move to America, where he spent the last twenty years of his life at the Institute of Advanced Studies of Princeton, the city where he died on April 18, 1955.

Forecasters Downplay 3rd-Day Dire Predictions
The Nation
LOUISVILLE, Miss. April 29, 2014 (AP) By JEFF AMY and ADRIAN SAINZ Associated Press.Ruth Bennett died clutching the last child left at her day care center as a tornado wiped the building off its foundation. A firefighter who came upon the body gently pulled the toddler from her arms. “It makes you just take a breath now,” said next-door neighbor Kenneth Billingsley, who witnessed the scene at what was left of Ruth’s Child Care Center in this logging town of 6,600. “It makes you pay attention to life.” Bennett, 53, was among at least 35 people killed in a two-day outbreak of twisters and other violent weather that pulverized homes from the Midwest to the Deep South. The child, whose name was not released, was alive when she was pulled from Bennett’s arms and was taken to a hospital. Her condition was not known. As crews in Mississippi and Alabama turned from search-and-rescue efforts to cleanup, forecasters began to downplay their initially dire predictions of a third round of deadly twisters Tuesday. Meterologists said the storm system had weakened substantially by evening, although some tornado watches and warnings were still in effect for isolated areas. In North Carolina, the National Weather Service reported tornado touchdowns in five counties Tuesday, but the twisters caused only moderate structural damage to homes and toppled some trees. Two cities in the state reported extensive flooding from the storm system. No injuries were reported. One of the hardest-hit areas in Monday evening’s barrage of twisters was Tupelo, Miss., where a gas station looked as if it had been stepped on by
12
a giant. Francis Gonzalez, who also owns a convenience store and Mexican restaurant attached to the service station, took cover with her three children and two employees in the store’s cooler as the roof over the gas pumps was reduced to aluminum shards. “My Lord, how can all this happen in just one second?” she said in Spanish. On Tuesday, the growl of chain saws cut through the otherwise still, hazy morning in Tupelo. Massive oak trees,
knocked over like toys, blocked roads. Neighbors helped one another cut away limbs. “This does not even look like a place that I’m familiar with right now,” said Pam Montgomery, walking her dog in her neighborhood. “You look down some of the streets, and it doesn’t even look like there is a street.” By the government’s preliminary count, 11 tornadoes — including one that killed 15 people in Arkansas — struck the nation’s midsection on Sunday, and at
May 2014
least 25 ravaged the South on Monday, the National Weather Service
Storm Prediction Center said. Among those killed was 21-year-old University of Alabama swimmer and
dean’s list student John Servati, who was taking shelter in the basement of a Tuscaloosa home when a retaining wall collapsed on him. His death — and that of at least two others in Alabama — came the day after the third anniversary of an outbreak of more than 60 tornadoes that killed more than 250 people across the state. In Kimberly, Ala., north of Birmingham, the firehouse was among the buildings heavily damaged. Four firefighters suffered little more than cuts and scrapes, but the bays over the fire trucks were destroyed, and the vehicles were covered with red bricks, concrete blocks and pieces of the roof. The trucks were essentially trapped, so the town had to rely on nearby communities for emergency help.
Louisville was also one of the hardesthit areas, with officials reporting at least nine dead in and around town because of a powerful tornado with a preliminary rating of EF4, just shy of the top of the scale. A team formed by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks was searching on Tuesday for an 8-year-old boy still missing from the community after rescuers found the bodies of his parents near their destroyed home. The boy was believed to have been with his parents when the tornado struck, said department Capt. James Crawford. Sennaphie Yates arrived at the small local hospital in Louisville to check on her grandfather just ahead of Monday’s twister. As the funnel cloud closed in, staff members herded people into a hall. “They had all of us against the wall and gave us pillows. They said, ‘Get down and ... don’t get up,’” she said. The winds knocked down two walls
and tore holes in the roof. Doctors moved some emergency room patients to a former operating room and sent some to other hospitals. Bennett’s day care center was not far from the hospital. Her niece Tanisha Lockett had worked at Ruth’s Child Care since it opened seven years ago. She said all but the one child — a 4-year-old girl who had been in the center’s care since she was a baby — had been picked up before the storm. On Tuesday, Bennett’s family and those who worked for her stepped over schoolbooks, first aid supplies and a Hooked on Phonics cassette as they tried to salvage paperwork. “We’re just trying to keep a smile on our faces,” said Jackie Ivy, an employee. “I cried all last night.” ——— Sainz reported from Tupelo, Miss. Associated Press writers Jack Elliott Jr. in Jackson, Miss., and Jay Reeves in Kimberly, Ala., contributed to this story.

White House considers former banking lawyer for Fed board - sources (Reuters) - A former lawyer with the American Bankers Association is being considered by the White House as a possible nominee to the board of the Federal Reserve, according to sources familiar with the efforts. The lawyer's name emerged as the White House weighs candidates with community banking backgrounds to fill gaps on the Federal Reserve's powerful but depleted board, the sources said. The U.S. central bank, which is looking to wind down its most aggressive economic stimulus ever, is operating with just four of its seven board positions filled. Two nominees await congressional confirmation to fill two of the current vacancies. With another governor set to retire in a month, there would still be two vacancies. People familiar with the White House's process said administration officials may fill one of the remaining openings with someone with banking experience, as opposed to an economist. Two sources said the administration is considering Diana Preston, a lawyer who recently left a post at the American Bankers Association, which represents many small banks. A separate source familiar with the process said officials are looking at Rebeca Romero Rainey, who runs a small bank in New Mexico, and Ann Marie Mehlum, who headed an Oregon-based bank before joining a federal small-business agency last year. The latter two were previously named as possible candidates by other news outlets. It was unclear whether
14
the Obama administration was considering additional candidates besides those three or how close it was to making a decision. Preston declined to comment in an email, referring questions about vetting to the White House. Romero Rainey and Mehlum did not return calls or emails. The White House did not respond to requests for comment on the nominations process. Community bank lobbyists and lawmakers from both political parties have pushed for a small-banks representative on the Fed board since
Elizabeth Duke resigned in August. Duke, who had worked for small banks and was a past chairman of the ABA, was seen as the board's voice for smaller banking firms and periodically spoke about the state of community banking. "Nominating an individual with community banking or supervisory experience would ensure that future Federal Reserve actions and regulations are tailored and reflect a nuanced understanding of the regulatory and economic environment faced by community banks," Senator Heidi Heitkamp, a North Dakota Democrat, and 15
other senators wrote in a letter to President Barack Obama on April 10. Community bank groups have had some success pushing for their priorities in Washington in recent years. The smallest banks were exempt from many requirements under the 2010 Dodd-Frank rewrite of financial rules, and regulators tweaked part of the Volcker rule proprietary trading ban related to trust-preferred securities earlier this year after the ABA sued over the requirements.
Preston, Romero Rainey and Mehlum all have some experience that appears to fit the profile. Preston was a vice president at the ABA and deputy general counsel of its securities unit until she left on January 16. Romero Rainey is chief executive of Centinel Bank in Taos, New Mexico, and is heavily involved with another community bank group. Mehlum, who led Summit Bank in Oregon for a decade, now runs a capital-access office at the U.S. Small Business Administration. A spokesman for the small business agency referred questions about Mehlum to the White House.

Amazon Pays Its Staff Up To $5,000 If They Quit — No Strings Attached
people at Zappos, and the Amazon fulfillment centers have been iterating on it. Pay to Quit is pretty simple. Once a year, we offer to pay our associates to quit. The first year the offer is made, it’s for $2,000.
Here's our favorite part of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos' annual letter to shareholders. He describes how the company will pay Amazon's warehouse workers up to $5,000 to quit their jobs.
Then it goes up one thousand dollars a year until it reaches $5,000. The headline on the offer is “Please Don’t Take This Offer.” We hope they don’t take the offer; we want them to stay. Why do we make this offer? The goal is to encourage folks to take a moment and think about what they really want. In the long-run, an employee staying somewhere they don’t want to be isn’t healthy for the employee or the company.
The intent of the program is to ensure that Amazon only retains people who really, really want to work at Amazon: The second program is called Pay to Quit. It was invented by the clever

Uranus’s presence in Aries means that you may be zinged every now and again with a revelation that makes you deeply reflective. The year, as a result, follows a back-andforth pattern of introspectiveness and action. One moment you may be out and
The Earth Signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) year has an organic flow. Instead of the hurly-burly of throwing yourself into tricky situations, the art of effective communication will grow within you like a seed in the Earth. Though outside stimuli still have an effect, ideas have time to gestate slowly, growing almost of their own accord. As a result, you gain an aura of “quiet wisdom.” Even when you feel like isolating yourself from the outside world, you’re still praised for the well-nourished concepts you bring to the table when you’re ready. Pluto’s year-long position in Capricorn charges your words and ideas with a natural, productive effectiveness... Whatever you have to offer, it’ll be the right thing at the right time. For Air Signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius), communication is more constructive. Talking and listening become like girders on a skyscraper - they’re components of a larger and more important objective. You may not be stopping to smell the roses much this year, but you will remember
how the roses smell anyway! In the meantime, you’ll be gaining the satisfaction of watching your personal goals achieved little by little. Your vision of the future you’re trying to create will help inspire others with their own aims. There may still be the occasional hesitation, but the overall motion will be forward, propelled by the connections you make with friends and strangers alike. Water Signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) have two beneficial planets taking up residence within them. Jupiter is in Cancer at the beginning of the year, and Neptune is positioned in cozy Pisces. Put them together, and they spell an abundance of expression. So much to say, so much to hear, so much to do, and so little time to do it in! With every word you give, you receive just as much in return. Unlike the Fire or Earth signs, there may not be much time to “process” this information. Back and forth it goes, but it doesn’t seem there’s ever enough time to let it sink in! The good part is that with so much going on, you gain more knowledge even if you don’t feel like anything’s changed! You’re gaining the skill to think on your feet and act wisely even while you’re in constant motion. So if you’ve taken it for granted before this year, communication will become your key to unlock doors you’d thought were sealed up for good! Provided by Astrocenter.com

Horoscope
2014... Numerologically, it reduces to seven - the number of the thinker and the seeker. Astrologically, it translates the same way. Thinking and seeking, combined, will be part of your goal this year. But just how differs for each sign. Some may be quietly exploring cyberspace in the confines of their own home. Others may go out and about, socially expanding their horizons. In either instance, one skill is emphasized above all others: communication. While we think of communication strictly as sharing information by talking, writing, or body language, we forget that sometimes we communicate without any outward expression at all, through actions and even thoughts. Whether our goals are love-related, career-oriented or just for bettering ourselves, stronger and smoother communications remain essential throughout 2014 and into 2015.
about, full of motion and excitement. The next, you’re touching base with people you love to gain “brain fuel” for the next big project. And then, out of nowhere... something else comes along that keeps you and your loved ones talking for hours! The things you learn and share thus continue to enrich your life in unpredictable ways.

NBA bans Donald Sterling for life, fines him $2.5 million for racial comment
16
The NBA has banned Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling for life and fined him $2.5 million for racial comments he made to his reported girlfriend. The NBA will immediately begin working to try to force him to sell the team. "The hateful opinions voiced by that of the man [on the tape] are those of Donald Sterling," NBA commissioner Adam Silver said. "‌ I'm personally distraught the views expressed by Mr. Sterling came from within an institution that has historically taken such a leadership role in matters of race relations." As part of the ban, Sterling is not allowed "to attend any NBA games or practices, be present at any Clippers office or facility, or participate in any business or player personnel decisions involving the team." Sterling also will be barred from attending any Board of Governors meetings
and participating in any other league activity. The fine is the maximum the NBA can issue under the NBA constitution, Silver said. Seventy-five percent of the NBA's owners must vote to oust Sterling to force him to sell. "I fully expect to get the support I need from the other NBA owners to remove him," Silver said. "Adam has the votes – all of them, I believe," a league source told Yahoo Sports. Several groups hoping to purchase the Clippers are already stepping forward with a bidding war expected to exceed $1 billion for the franchise, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Among those groups, Magic Johnson and Guggenheim Partners will be front and center in pursuit of the Clippers. "Magic Johnson knows he's always welcome as an owner in this
league," Silver said. Silver said Sterling admitted the voice on the recordings was his, but Sterling "has not expressed to me directly any other views." Sterling violated league rules, Stern said, through his "expressions of offensive and hurtful views, the impact of which has been widely felt throughout the league." Members of the players union, including Los Angeles Lakers guard Steve Nash, gathered with Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti and Sacramento mayor and former NBA player Kevin Johnson at Los Angeles' City Hall after Silver's announcement was made. "The players spoke, acted and they were listened to," said Kevin Johnson, who has been assisting the National Basketball Players Association in its investigation. Kevin Johnson called the sanctions "a defining moment in our history." "I want to thank the commissioner for bringing down the hammer," Garcetti said. Sacramento Kings guard Roger Mason, who is part of the union's governing board, said the players had considered boycotting games and will not be satisfied until Sterling is ousted. /Source Yahoo Sports

A Look to the Past

The death of the Romanovs
the investigation in 1919 and died in mysterious circumstances shortly afterwards.
The Romanov family was murdered at Ekateringburg on July 17th, 1918. After his abdication in March 1917, Nicholas and his family had been put under house arrest and kept just outside of St. Petersburg. As the civil war developed, the whole family was sent to Tolbolsk in Siberia and from here to Ekateringburg in the Urals.
It suited the Whites to put out stories about how cruel the Reds were and it may well be that the Whites themselves were responsible for the many rumours that persisted after the murders.
The Romanovs had given Lenin a major problem. To many, Nicholas was still the legitimate ruler of Russia. While he was alive, people would rally to his cause. The simple fact was that many in the White corner were fighting to restore Nicholas the throne. The tsar, appointed by God, had many loyal followers. If Nicholas escaped, then his followers would have had someone at their head to lead them - against Lenin. In the summer of the 1918, Ekateringburg was threatened by the advancing Whites. The decision was taken by the Bolsheviks to kill Nicholas and his family. On the night of July 17th, the family was awoken and told that there was trouble in Ekateringburg. They were told that they would be safer in the basement of the house they were staying in. The whole family, the family doctor (Botkin) and three servants went to the basement. A group of twelve Red Army soldiers
18
appeared in the basement and shot those there. The legend has it that the princesses had to be finished off with bayonets as they had stuffed jewels in their blouses which had deflected the bullets. Many rumours quickly spread with regards to the murders. One was that the youngest daughter, Anastasia somehow managed to survive. Another was that not all the family were murdered in the basement and that some, primarily the children and Alexandra, were removed from the house and shot elsewhere. Another was that the first judge appointed by the Bolsheviks to investigate the murders, Judge Sergeyev, was removed from the investigation as he was going to go public about what had happened. Sergeyev was certainly removed from
A second investigative judge, Sokolov, reported that the bodies were removed from the basement and taken to the 'Four Brothers' mine near to Ekateringburg. Here they were thrown done a mine shaft and left. Grenades were thrown in the mine shaft in an attempt to make it collapse. Such was the fear of the Cheka that the story of the Romanovs deaths was never challenged and the same remained true under Stalin. However, in September 1918, a number of people claimed to have seen Alexandra and the four princesses at a house in Perm - this followed the rumour that a heavily guarded train left Ekateringburg immediately after July 17th, with the four princesses and their mother on board. Also a doctor in Perm claimed to have treated one of the princesses after she had fallen ill in September 1918. The actual details of what happened to the Romanovs on July 17th will never be known and this has led to continual speculation as to what exactly did happen. Source HLS

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray - Four Seasons Introduction
Our first few weeks with the Chevrolet Corvette have been as awesome as those kids in the museum probably imagine it to be. Everyone loves the bark of the 460-hp V-8 and the satisfying snap of its seven-speed manual gearbox. But this test will be more than a yearlong victory parade. Beyond learning whether our friends in Bowling Green have put together a reliable car, we intend to determine whether the Chevrolet Corvette has, at last, evolved into the sort of personal luxury coupe one can comfortably and proudly drive every day. Source / automobilemag.com
Want to know how much people like the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette? When we climbed into ours for the first time, we literally received a round of applause. OK, it’s probably worth mentioning that we picked up the car from the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and that most of the clapping bystanders were excited elementary school students on a tour. Yet, people of all ages seem to react with childish delight when they see the new Stingray. A young woman in Louisville mouthed, “nice car,” and an old mailman in Michigan asked to take a cell phone picture. We’ve shown our own appreciation for the Chevrolet Corvette by naming it our 2014 Automobile of the Year. Now we get to spend four seasons with one. We opted for a coupe equipped with the Z51 package, which includes stiffer dampers, a sophisticated electronic limited-slip differential, bigger brakes, and higher performance tires. Another $1995 brings slimmer Competition seats. Yup, we’ll be visiting the track. But we also plan to take plenty of long road trips, so we made sure those seats are heated and ventilated, with power adjustable lumbar. Adjustable magnetorheological dampers should likewise improve handling on the track while smoothing out the potholes around town.

Our white on red color combination— just like the original—flatters the Stingray’s robotic exterior and rich leather interior. Last but not least, Chevrolet charges $990 for museum delivery. That sounds like a lot to pay to schlep your own car home, but it also buys a tour of the factory and museum. Heck, you even get to see Zora ArkusDuntov’s cremated remains on display (his wife is interred there, too, perhaps to remind spouses being dragged along that things could be worse). All told, our car lists for $68,060, some $15,000 more than the base Stingray but still an unseemly bargain by sports car standards.

them question their own safety or give them physical and psychological discomfort.
Terrorism, acts of brutality and armed conflicts are simply a sad reality. Violence, whether targeted or random, down the street or across the globe, is emotionally jarring to many. And violence can sometimes seem like it’s happening everywhere to anyone.
How can you help your children cope with their anxieties and questions? Always consider the age and maturity level of your children when you have to explain tragic events. Young children (toddlers to 9-year-olds) should be shielded from as much media coverage as possible. For older children, that’s not practical. However, they possess greater cognitive skills which can help them better comprehend what happened.
Media saturation, coupled with the proliferation and sophistication of mobile devices, makes the sounds and images of violence instantly accessible and practically inescapable. For many children, exposure to attentiongrabbing headlines, disturbing videos and uncensored pictures can make

John Boehner Blames Obama For Immigration Reform Delay House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) once again blamed President Barack Obama for the potential failure of immigration reform, saying Monday that changing deportation policies would make legislation very unlikely. "That will make it almost impossible to ever do immigration reform, because he will spoil the well to the point where no one will trust him by giving him a new law that he will implement it the way the Congress intended," Boehner said on Fox News' "The Kelly File," flagged by Politico. The Senate passed a comprehensive immigration reform bill last June, and Boehner has been saying for more
22
than a year that he believes the House should deal with the issue as well. He rejected the Senate bill and put out House Republicans' own principles for reform in January, but so far there have been no votes on immigration reform bills or movement on legislation. A Democrat-led effort to force a vote on their own bill looks unlikely to succeed.
In the meantime, the administration is reviewing its deportation policies to determine whether changes could be made to make the system more humane. That could lead to measures that reduce removals for certain segments of the undocumented
population. Boehner said in February that it would be "difficult to move any immigration legislation" until Obama proved he could be trusted to enforce the laws. He reiterated Monday that he believes the House should address immigration reform, but said distrust of the president could derail that effort. "The American people want us to deal with immigration reform, Boehner said on Fox News. "I've tried to get the House to move on this now for the last 15 or 16 months. But every time the president ignores the law, like the 38 times he has on Obamacare, our members look up and go, 'Wait a minute: You can't have immigration reform without strong border security and internal enforcement, how can we trust the president to actually obey the law and enforce the law that we would write?'" Cantor says Obama ‘not sincere’ on immigration reform House Majority Leader Eric Cantor on Wednesday said he had a phone call with President Barack Obama on the topic of immigration reform. It didn’t sound like it was a particularly friendly conversation. Cantor issued a statement saying, in part: The President called me hours after he issued a partisan statement which attacked me and my fellow House Republicans and which indicated no sincere desire to work together. After five years, President Obama still has not learned how to effectively work with Congress to get things done.
You do not attack the very people you hope to engage in a serious dialogue. Indeed, Obama had issued a statement earlier in which he criticized Republicans: Unfortunately, Republicans in the House of Representatives have
repeatedly failed to take action, seemingly preferring the status quo of a broken immigration system over meaningful reform. Instead of advancing commonsense reform and working to fix our immigration system, House Republicans have voted in favor of extreme measures like a punitive amendment to strip protections from “Dreamers”. The majority of Americans are ahead of House Republicans on this crucial issue and there is broad support for reform, including among Democrats and Republicans, labor and business, and faith and law enforcement leaders. Obama in that statement asked the House Republicans to bring the Senate bill on immigration to the floor, and Cantor replied that the bill doesn’t have support and won’t be brought to the floor. Navy's future: Electric guns, lasers, water as fuel (CNN) -- Imagine ships that fire missiles at seven times the speed of sound without using explosives, or that use lasers to destroy threats at the cost of about a dollar a shot, and vessels making fuel from the very seawater in which they're floating. That's the glimpse of the high-tech future the U.S. Navy gave this week. And these aren't just ideas. They've all been shown to work to some degree. Saturday, the Navy will christen its most advanced warship ever, the destroyer USS Zumwalt, which may one day be using these new technologies. The Zumwalt, which was launched last year and is to be christened at Bath Iron Works in Maine, is the Navy's first stealth destroyer. At 610 feet long and 80 feet wide, it's about 100 feet longer and 20 feet wider than ships in the Navy's current fleet of Arleigh Burke class destroyers, but the canopy and the rest of the Zumwalt is built on angles that help make it 50
24
times harder to spot on radar than an ordinary destroyer. "It has the radar cross-section of a fishing boat," Chris Johnson, a spokesman for Naval Sea Systems Command, told CNN when the ship was launched last year. In its current configuration, the Zumwalt will carry a considerable arsenal of weapons, including two Advanced Gun Systems (AGS), which can fire rocket-powered, computerguided shells that can destroy targets 63 miles away. That's three times farther than ordinary destroyer guns can fire. But in the future, it could be fitted with the even more advanced systems the Navy talked about this week. One, a laser weapon prototype, will be tested aboard the amphibious transport dock USS Ponce in the Persian Gulf this summer, the Navy said. "This is a revolutionary capability," Rear Adm. Matthew Klunder, chief of Naval Research, said in a statement. "This very affordable technology is going to change the way we fight and save lives." The laser weapon is design to take on aircraft or small surface vessels that may pose threats to Navy ships. Tests in 2011 and 2012 showed it can accomplish that mission. The laser can be fired by one sailor
using a video game-like console and do it at little cost, the Navy said. "Spending about $1 per shot of a directed-energy source that never runs out gives us an alternative to firing costly munitions at inexpensive threats," Klunder said. The Navy thinks the other weapon prototype it discussed this week, the electromagnetic railgun, will save money while providing a more potent force. The gun uses electromagnetic force to send a missile to a range of 125 miles at 7.5 times the speed of sound, according to the Navy. When it hits its target, the projectile does its damage with sheer speed. It does not have an explosive warhead. "The electromagnetic railgun represents an incredible new offensive capability for the U.S. Navy," Rear Adm. Bryant Fuller, the Navy's chief engineer, said in a statement. "This capability will allow us to effectively counter a wide range of threats at a relatively low cost, while keeping our ships and sailors safer by removing the need to carry as many high-explosive weapons." The railgun projectiles could cost about 1/100th the price of current missiles,
according to Klunder.

Another “gentlemen in the parking lot” was even less polite, suggesting the person complaining about the poor behavior to perform a lewd act, the bishop wrote in his letter.
Foul behavior off-court brought a season-long warning to the St. Clare/ St. Paul Elementary School’s Crusaders boys basketball team.
“The fact that multiple individuals from throughout Pennsylvania, as well as other states, took the time to locate one of our diocesan schools in order to report to us their terrible experience due to the poor behavior of adults ... is incredibly disappointing and, frankly, quite embarrassing,” the bishop said.
According to a letter the Most Rev. Joseph C. Bambera, bishop of Scranton, wrote to Elizabeth Murray, the school’s principal, the bishop received numerous complaints about “the conduct of children and adults of the St. Clare/St. Paul School community,” during their stay at the Hilton Doubletree Hotel in Plymouth Meeting in March. As a result, the bishop placed the boys basketball team on probation for the 2014-15 school year. “This sanction is the direct result of the serious misconduct of the representatives ... who stayed at the Hilton Doubletree Hotel, Plymouth Meeting,” he wrote. “Any additional infractions may lead to forfeiture of games, including those associated with representing the Diocese of Scranton in post-season play.”
The bishop said he received complaints about the St. Clare/St. Paul players, their parents and chaperones from across the state. According to his letter, one hotel guest said the group made their stay a “nightmare,” while another said the parents “were allowing the kids to run freely while they socialized at the bar.”
The terms of the team’s probation were unclear Wednesday night. Despite several messages, boy’s basketball coach Mike Brown could not be reached for comment. The school’s principal also could not be reached Wednesday. The bishop asked Mrs. Murray to share the complaints with the school community. Bill Genello, executive director of communications for the diocese, confirmed she followed the bishop’s request.
“One gentleman who told us they were from St. Clare/St. Paul said that their group rented 75 rooms and therefore our complains would fall on deaf ears,” one complaint read.
“That was done and the matter has been addressed,” Mr. Genello said via e-mail on Wednesday.
Federal judge dismisses case against late ex-Sen. Musto
U.S. District Judge A. Richard Caputo, who ruled in January that Musto was unfit to stand trial, on Wednesday granted a prosecution motion that officially ended the case because of Musto’s passing.
In a procedural move, a federal judge on Wednesday dismissed the criminal case against the late state Sen. Raphael Musto, who died last week at age 85. Corruption charges against the former longtime lawmaker were never resolved at the time of his death, but now they have been officially dismissed from the court’s docket.
Writer: @sscintoTT on Twitter
Musto, who faced bribery allegations, was first indicted on Nov. 23, 2010 prior to his previously announced retirement from the state senate. His attorneys for years argued he was too ill to stand trial, leading up to the January competency hearing. After the hearing, Musto was sent to a federal medical prison for evaluation, then was released a few weeks before his death after being diagnosed with end stage cancer.

Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls (review) I can’t recall a gaming villain who looks as imposing as Reaper of Souls’ Malthael but leaves so weak an impression. He pops in and out as the narrative unfolds, spouting a few threatening lines before evaporating in a mist of gloom, and thus he recalls Blizzard's similar treatment of Arthas Menethil during World of Warcraft's Wrath of the Lich King expansion. But at least Arthas had the benefit of years of accumulated lore to support his cameos. The star of but one act, Malthael is never around long enough to make us care about his grumbles. Malthael's saga delivers few surprises; there's little like the shifting allegiances and unexpected deaths of Diablo III proper. If it warrants attention at all, it's only in that it lets us settle a score gone unpunished from the first outing (and in the weakest of the expansion's three boss fights, no less). Instead, it's the environment that stands out in Reaper of Souls. As if in defiance of criticisms that Diablo III was too soft, Blizzard kicks off its tale with medieval streets paved with bodies that squish under your feet. Later, marshlands simmer with more menace than I ever felt in the Leoric Highlands or Dalghur Oasis, and the portal-ridden citadel of Pandemonium mirrors Malthael’s madness. Reaper of Souls fails to serve a sufficiently epic story, but it nails the ambiance. The cast is as entertaining as Reaper’s setting, too, with demon dogs that wriggle you in their jaws like a squeaky toy and a boss that wields a demonic flamethrower while a burning ceiling collapses around him. Perhaps that's why Blizzard's kept the prattling to a
Play it again, Sam(ael) I’m especially pleased by the direction Blizzard took Reaper’s levels because there were sections of Diablo III that I dreaded slogging through—zones like High Heavens with their bland grandeur—but each of Reaper’s eleven zones here yields its own treats. What's more, some levels shift randomly with each new playthrough so you're never running through the same map twice. Randomized events pop up around most grimy corners. Some of these rely on familiar scenarios like fending off hordes on a timer, but others present vignettes that demand attention. One time I stepped through an unassuming door and found a would-be usurper gloating over the slain leader of Westmarch. And when my haughty Crusader condemned him for taking advantage of the chaos to further his own ambition, I felt his zeal. He was a tough bastard, but only because I allowed it. The massive patch that dropped two weeks before launch let all players choose specific difficulty modes at their leisure, and this mattered a great deal for my wellgeared level 60 character with a 55 Paragon rating. For around two years, you could only reach the tough stuff by chugging through three separate difficulty modes corresponding to fixed level brackets across three playthroughs. The “hardest,” Inferno, was sometimes stupidly easy thanks to its fixed nature and the conveniences of gear optimization from the auction house. About a month ago I jumped
into a multiplayer battle on Inferno mode with Azmodan, the boss of Diablo III's third act, and saw him three-shotted by a high-level, wellgeared Paragon. Reaper of Souls may give folks like him a hard time. Without the tiresome need to slog through an overly easy first playthrough to access tougher stuff; I could choose from one of five difficulty settings right from the beginning and change them if it got too rough. But wait, it gets better. Select the highest level difficulty, "Torment," and you'll find a slider that lets you bump it up six additional tiers of brutality. That gives you perks like 300 percent extra gold or 300 percent extra XP, but if you're unprepared like I was, it'll knock you silly. Weeks or months from now, when I’m decked out in the godliest of gear, I’ll be grateful for the remaining challenges and associated replay value.

minimum: story never gets in the way of Reaper’s eternal hunt for the next best loot upgrade or its satisfyingly responsive dance of combat and movement. Instead of force-feeding us tragedies, Blizzard instead invests in spectacle. Malthael himself makes up for his insipid tale with a fantastic boss fight that makes Diablo’s feel like a glittery piñata bash. At times, I felt as though I should reach for popcorn. Am I really battling on top of a moving battering ram in Pandemonum? Thank the heavens, I am.
And so it came to pass that I chickened out and cut down the difficulty a notch or four. It wasn't for naught; when this would-be ruler fell, he dropped a legendary shield that might have given me a fighting chance against his tougher self. Five legendaries in all dropped during my six-hour march from 60 to 70, a marked improvement over the zero found during my initial 2012 playthrough. Such improvements also spring from the pre-launch patch. In a sweeping overhaul, Blizzard ditched the auction house and tweaked the game to drop legendaries that live up to their name, eradicate most trash drops, and focus on gear that is usually relevant for your character. That's all true here, too. It works so well that I ran into a laughable problem: so many Crusader-only shields were dropping that I had nothing to give the NPC Templar companion I took along for an extra hand in solo play.

l a i c rt Poor e o p p S e people R and beggars under the sun of Miami
By: Carlos Rodriguez
Downtown Miami, a landscape dotted with skyscrapers of glass and steel that exhibit the opulence of a city where large companies banks and hotels are vying for a place under the sun. But that splendour reflects also the shocking discrepancy between the fortunate and the sectors of low resources.
Among major U.S. cities, Miami ranks third in the income gap between rich and poor. According to a report by the Brookings Institution, the wealthiest five percent of the Florida city earned $ 164,031 on average in 2012, compared to just $ 10,348 received by 20 percent in the bottom of the scale of wealth. Maintain a modest lifestyle in Miami are extremely expensive. A study
28
of the Economic Policy Institute calculated that $60,168 income is required for a family of three members (mother father and a son) to cover their basic expenses. This figure represents more than three times the poverty threshold set by the federal government Food insecurity afflicts nearly a million people in south Florida from Palm Beach County until Monroe according to the Network of Food Banks Feeding America. That statistic makes Florida the fifth worst state in the country. More than 23 percent of children in South Florida are food insecure. This ratio means that 196,000 small do not have access to adequate food in their homes. According to the census of 2012, 17,1 percent of the residents in the Florida subsists under the poverty line. This
limit establishes minimum income of $23,492 annually for a family of four people. Some neighborhoods such as East Little Havana, Little Haiti and Allapattah concentrated the greater proportion of low-income families. In the United States about 48 million people are poor, 15,9 percent of the total inhabitants, including Puerto Rico. In Miami-Dade resides 48 percent of
the Cuban exile community in the United States. According to the Pew Research Center, in 2010 18 percent of the emigrants from Cuba lived in poverty. The population of "homeless" in Miami has remained at about the 4,000 people in the last five years. This group comprised a majority who frequents hostels and around 900 that roam the streets of the city. Florida is considered the most dangerous state for the "homeless" in the United States in accordance with the report of 2012 of the National Coalition for the Homeless. Of the 18 murders committed against the homeless this year, three happened in the "Sunshine State that also doubled the number of hate crimes of the second place in the list, California. Last February the authorities of Miami tightened restrictions against the "homeless " after a lengthy dispute with the Union by the American Civil Liberties (ACLU). The local police may detain the homeless when they build makeshift tents to sleep or make fires in the parks for cooking. Also may only rest on the sidewalks if not interrupted to pedestrians.

them from swindlers. After registration, immigrants could purchase train or boat tickets from approved agents. The procedures developed were eventually used as the models for all immigrant examining stations. Nevertheless, corruption still was present among the staff and outsiders. This eventually led to public outcry and demand for a new solution. Ellis Island
Castle Garden and the port of New York, mid 1800s
Early Arrivals Before 1855, immigrants were not processed through a central area in New York. Custom collectors worked at the docks and by 1819 were keeping statistics on the numbers of passengers, names, and ports of origins. A state commission in 1847 found that many frauds were being perpetrated against the new arrivals. Boardinghouses hired runners to steer immigrants to their establishments stealing luggage or children in order to get victims to follow them. The boarding houses and confidence men overcharged the immigrants for tickets, rent, and other necessities. By 1848, the state had leased a pier at the end of hubert street to process and protect immigrants but was forced to move to Castle Clinton due to neighbors complaints. Castle Garden

The examination process that followed was both direct and clandestine. Doctors watched for signs of mental or physical illnesses they walked up ramps into the facility.Inside, following a quick medical examination, they would wait in the registry room for their interrogation. Meeting Sponsors
Following the federal takeover of immigration in 1890, the congress appropriated money to convert abandoned Fort Gibson on Ellis Island into an immigration center. Castle Garden had become too small for the traffic of the 1880s. Because of an economic depression during the 1890s, immigration was “light” at 200,000 persons/year. In 1897, fire broke out and the original building was destroyed. In 1898, construction of the present building was started and by 1900 the new building designed to handle 200,000 people.year was complete. By the time it opened however, immigration through New York had reached 500,000 and by 1907 immigration surpassed 1 million.
Castle Clinton, a circular red sandstone fort built in 1807 on what was then an offshore spit of rocks. Countless fills by the land-hungry city have left it a few hundred feet inland. The fort’s history took another turn in 1855, when Castle Clinton became the country’s main immigration center Castle Garden. Until Ellis Island replaced it in 1892, more than 7 million immigrants passed through here, mostly Irish, Jewish, and Italian. A few years later it reopened as the City Aquarium, which it remained until 1942. After missing a date with the wrecking ball in the ‘40s, the Castle became a national monument.
collected their belongings and boarded small ferries owned by the steamship companies for processing at Ellis Island. Immigrants were asked how much money they had with them and my ancestors rarely had more than $10. At one point some Americans tried to require $25 but it never stuck. Nevertheless word of the $25 requirement got back to Europe and later immigrants often arrived with that amount just in case.
Once cleared by inspectors, the immigrants were free to get on a train for the trip further west, or to go to New York or New Jersey directly. Depending on the final destination and age or sex of the immigrant, sponsors were contacted to pick up their relatives. Those detained were housed in the main building on wire bunkbeds that filled the lower level. One young relative of mine was detained for a day until his sponsor in Brooklyn could pick him up. It was duly noted that he ate dinner and breakfast, served free in the dining hall, before being picked up at 11am the next morning. Before it sank, my grandfather recovered one of the signs on the front and donated it to the immigration museum then housed in the base of the Statue of Liberty. It now hangs in the Ellis Island Museum.

What Is Bullying?
The Anti-Bullying Page
By: Fanny Rodriguez (13 years Old) Bullying is when a person hurts another person to make his/her feel better about themselves. Most bullies don’t do it because they want to, but because they were bullyied before or they were hurt by their parents at home; but some bullies do it because they like hurting people. There are four main types of bullying, “verbal bullying”, “physical bullying”, “cyber bullying”, and “emotional bullying”. 1. Verbal Bullying: This type of bullying is the most use one. It consists of; name-calling, insulting, making racist marks, remarks of teasing, abusive language, and finally, sexist or homophobic jokes.

2. Physical Bullying: The physical bullying is extremely dangerous around kids, teens, and young adults. This type of bullying includes; hitting, kicking, pinching, punching, scratching, spitting, pushing and tripping. 3. Cyber Bullying: This type of bullying is mostly used by the teens/young adults. It includes; bullying on the internet and internet sites such as,
Facebook, Intagram, Kik, Snapchat, Twitter and Youtube. This also may happen when you are playing on a console, such as, Xbox, PS3, Wii, WiiU and PSP. 4. Emotional Bullying: Emotional bullying is also a very common type of bullying. This type of bullying consists of; spreading false rumors about someone, exclusions from groups, spreading nasty stories about someone, and saying stuff about their families or their lives that are not quite true. Most bullies use these types of bullying because the other kids might not look exactly like them. But I believe that in this world there should not be any kind of bullying at all. But sadly there is! We can all stop this if we try it and give it our best shot. I believe that the world can be a better and safer place if you make help it become a place where everyone knows they are safe and they can be who they are no matter what! Always remember, you make this world a smaller and better place by making your hearts a little bit bigger and sweeter.

What if I’m Being Bullied? Why do people bully others? Who is most likely to be a target? What can you do if you’re bullied?
They have poor role models. “Many times young bullies treat other people . . . the way they see their parents, older brothers and sisters, or other family members treat others,” writes Jay McGraw in his book Life Strategies for Dealing With Bullies. They act as if they are superior—and yet they’re insecure. “Kids who bully have an air of superiority that is often a mask to cover up deep hurt and a feeling of inadequacy,” notes Barbara Coloroso in her book The Bully, the Bullied, and the Bystander. Who is most likely to be a target?
Also, read tips from your peers and a teacher’s comments about bullying, and take our bullying quiz. Bullying is no trivial matter. A British study found that more than 40 percent of the youth suicides reported in the national media appeared to involve bullying as a contributing factor. Why do people bully others?
These are some common reasons. They themselves have been bullied. “I was so sick and tired of being mistreated by my peers that I began to bully others just to fit in,” admits a young man named Antonio. “Later I looked back and realized how wrong it was to do that!”
Loners. Some young people who lack social skills isolate themselves from others and become easy marks for bullies. Youths who are perceived as being different. Some youths are targeted by bullies because of their appearance, race, or religion or even because they have a disability—anything the bully can pick on. Youths who lack self-confidence. Bullies can detect those who think negatively of themselves. These are often the easiest targets, since they’re not likely to fight back. What can you do if you’re bullied? Don’t react. “Bullies want to know that they’ve succeeded in making you feel bad about yourself,” says a young woman named Kylie. “If you don’t react, they lose interest.” The Bible
says: “He that is wise keeps it calm to the last.”—Proverbs 29:11.
Don’t retaliate. Revenge will add to the problem, not solve it. The Bible says: “Return evil for evil to no one.”— Romans 12:17; Proverbs 24:19. Don’t walk into trouble. To the extent possible, avoid people and situations where bullying may occur.—Proverbs 22:3. Try an unexpected response. The Bible says: “An answer, when mild, turns away rage.”—Proverbs 15:1. Use humor. For example, if a bully asserts that you’re overweight, you could simply shrug your shoulders and say, “I guess I could lose a few pounds!” Walk away. “Silence shows that you are mature and that you are stronger than the person harassing you,” says 19-year-old Nora. “It demonstrates self-control—something the bully doesn’t have.” Work on your self-confidence. “Bullies notice when you aren’t relaxed,” says a girl named Rita, “and they might use that to destroy whatever selfconfidence you have.” Tell someone. According to one survey, more than half of all victims who are bullied online don’t report what’s going on, possibly because of shame (especially for boys) or fear of retaliation. But remember, bullies thrive on secrecy. Speaking up can be the first step to ending the nightmare. Source: All images and text extracted from: www.jw.org - Book, Young People Ask...
