Barcelona An Overview of Spain Widely known for Flamenco music and dance, bull-fights, fantastic beaches and lots of sunshine, Spain has to offer much more than that. Spain is located at the Iberian Península, of which it occupies approximately 80% (the remaining 20% are occupied by Portugal), in the southwest of Europe. In the north Spain borders on France and Andorra, with the Pyrenees as a natural frontier. Spain is the 3rd country of Europe in extension and the 5th in population. There are five big mountain ranges crossing the country, and about 50% of it are located at an elevated plain. Landscapes are extremely varied, some

almost desert-like, others green and fertile, and of course there are the long coasts, in the east along Mediterranean Sea from Pyrenees to Gibraltar, and in the west (the major part of the Iberian peninsula’s western coast is occupied by Portugal) along the Atlantic Ocean and Cantabrian Sea. Flamenco is a genuine Spanish art, and to be more exact a genuine Southern Spanish art. It exists in three forms: Cante, the song, Baile, the dance, and Guitarra, guitar playing. Gipsies are very often named as the fathers of Flamenco, and at least it can be taken for certain that they played an important part in its creation. But also the popular songs and dances of Andalusia have influenced early Flamenco considerably.

World News

Why world is overtaking America By Fareed Zakaria, CNN The single biggest force behind falling American rankings on education and skills is not that the United States is doing things much worse, but that other countries have caught up and are doing better. The American system of secondary education and adult training is clearly inadequate in the new global environment. And things show no signs of improving.

Obama says U.S. needs to choose battles more carefully By Dylan Stableford, Yahoo News After defending his approach to foreign policy in a commencement address at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., President Barack Obama told NPR that America’s leadership in the 21st century will be defined in part by its military strength — “but only in part.” “There are going to be times where we might have to go to war,” Obama said in the wide-ranging interview that aired late Wednesday. “And that’s why I think it’s very important for us not to get into these simplistic ways of thinking about it, (that) either we pull back entirely and we’re isolationist, or alternatively, every problem around the world is ours to manage.” Echoing some of themes in his West Point speech, Obama said the United States must “clearly define where is it in our national interests to use military force”— typically involving “direct interests, core interests, our safety, our security, our livelihoods, the protection of our allies, you know, international opinion matters, but we may have to act on our own.”

4

The bipartisan backlash against the common core – a set of national standards agreed to by governors – is a tragic example.Parents raised on a culture of low standards and high self-esteem are outraged that the tests show that many, many American schools are not teaching their children enough.(The tests must be at fault because their kids are brilliant!) Some left wing groups and teachers’ groups are upset with the emphasis on testing (though Randi Weingarten, the head of the American Federation of Teachers, has actually endorsed the Common Core.) But the president said conflicts like those in Syria and Ukraine are not America’s to manage alone: When it comes to the kinds of issues, though, that dominate the headlines — a conflict in Syria, a Russian incursion into Ukraine, the kidnapping of 200 young girls in Nigeria — in those circumstances, we are going to be most effective when we use a wide range of tools — diplomacy, sanctions, appeals to international law. In some cases, a judicious use of military force may make sense. But in those circumstances, it has to be in a multilateral system where other countries are participating, we are not going alone, because when we make sure that other countries are participating, that means that we’ve done our homework, we’ve thought through the consequences, we’ve built legitimacy, and we’re not carrying the burden entirely on our own. His comments came a day after announcing a drawdown of U.S. troops in Afghanistan. In his West Point speech, Obama called on Congress to create a $5 billion counterterrorism fund that would, in part, address the humanitarian crisis in Syria and aid opposition groups. Obama told NPR that Syria’s “moderate opposition” to Syrian President Bashar Assad — “farmers or dentists or maybe some radio reporters” — are

And Republicans now oppose it, despite having championed it only a few years ago, largely because the Obama administration also happens back this project. Here’s another quote from French economist Thomas Piketty’s big book: “[T]he principal force for convergence [of wealth]-the diffusion of knowledge-is only partly natural and spontaneous. It also depends in large part on educational policies.” In other words, if America really wants to reduce inequality, it needs to reform the system, spend money where needed – such as early education – and get to work at it now. inexperienced fighters “as opposed to the jihadists that have seen the chaos there as an opportunity to gain a foothold.” Creating a capacity for the rebels “to hold ground, to be able to rebuff vicious attacks, for them to be able to also organize themselves in ways that are cohesive — all that takes, unfortunately, more time than I think many people would like,” he said. But Obama added that America’s support of the opposition has its limits, and that U.S. military intervention in Syria is still not an option. “I still do not believe that American military actions can resolve what is increasingly a sectarian civil war,” the president said. “And I also believe that, ultimately, the only way you’re going to get a resolution that works for the Syrian people and the region ... is going to require some sort of political accommodation between the various groups there.” Obama also refuted the notion that Russian President Vladimir Putin had gained strength in his attempt to annex Crimea. “It’s a mistake to think that somehow Mr. Putin reflected strength in this situation,” Obama said. “He was operating from a position of weakness.”

Arts & Poetry

Bill T. Jones / Arnie Zane Dance Company Bill Jones was born and raised in rural Steuben County in upstate New York. He began his dance training as a student at the State University of New York at Binghamton where, as a theater major on an athletic scholarship, he enrolled in dance classes with Percival Borde. After living briefly in Amsterdam, Jones returned to SUNY in 1973 and joined with Lois Welk in forming the American Dance Asylum. Two years earlier, Jones met his longtime partner and companion Arnie Zane. The two choreographed and performed innovative solos and duos in the 1970s, often employing openly gay choreography. In 1982 they founded Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane and Company, which provided a vehicle for the development of their choreography. Their works increasingly took on evening-length dimensions. Jones, a tall, powerful dancer, was an outstanding soloist who often mixed video, text, and autobiographical material with his choreography, as he did in “Blauvelt Mountain” (1980) and “Valley Cottage” (1981), part of the trilogy that began with “Monkey Run Road” (1979). Jones and Zane gained recognition as “new wave” or “post modern” choreographers whose large-scale, abstract collaborations, such as “Secret Pastures, Freedom of Information,” and “Social Intercourse,” were visually and spatially altered by contemporary sets, costumes, and body paintings. They danced in costumes by clothing designer Willi Smith and had sets created by pop artist Keith Haring. These collaborative works were performed in prestigious venues such as the Brooklyn Academy of Music and New York’s City Center theater.

6

In 1983, Jones was commissioned to create the fast-paced, all-male “Fever Swamp” for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, followed by “How to Walk an Elephant,” in 1985. After Zane’s death in 1988 from AIDS, Jones continued to choreograph and perform.

B. Chandler Performing Arts Award. In June of 1994, Jones was awarded a MacArthur fellowship.

His works expanded to the field of opera and musical theater. He choreographed British composer Sir Michael Tippett’s “New Year” (1990), choreographed and directed Leroy Jenkins’ “Mother of Three Sons” (1991) at the New York City Opera, and directed Kurt Weill’s “Lost in the Stars” in 1992.

Summer Workshop

Jones’ work has been commissioned by companies throughout the U.S. and Europe. In 1986 Jones and Zane received a Bessie Award, and in 1991 Jones was recognized as an “innovative master” with the Dorothy

The Community Center of Hazleton (HIP) By: Eugenio Sosa. Executive Director The month of May was one of the most active because we had the opportunity to make a variety of activities where the integration of colors and the joy of our people flourished our community center. The first of May we had the honor of celebrating the national day of prayer, as well on May 2nd we have the Circus with two functions for the entire family. In the academic we had the privilege of having 18 students from Penn State with three of their teachers doing the half of May with our students in the afterschool program. In addition we are proud to share with you, the citizens of Hazleton, that our Community Center was awarded with the prize of the human and civil rights given by the Association of Education of the State of Pennsylvania. Another great activity carried out was our first walk through the unit in the city of Hazleton, coordinated by the Community Center of Hazleton and held on Sunday May 18, 2014, being the same a success; where hundreds of people in all the social elites were present giving their support. Inside the participants we had judges, priests and ministers from different churches, elected officials, the Mayor of the city, students, organizations, businesses and families in general. All with the same goal: to be one community, a city and a single Hazleton. The route of the walk was only 1.1 miles away, which has served to symbolize that every step we take together leads us to accept ourselves as a diverse community and to teach our children about the importance of working together to have a city more vibrant and successful. We take advantage of this medium to thank all the participants for having shared a few hours in a day as special as it is on Sunday, to support this hike and be done with the family; to all the volunteers, sponsors and in particular the Giant Food by providing us with the staff and customers. Also we want to thank all the media for their support, SSPTV and WYLNTV, the local newspapers El Mensajero, Standard Speaker, and Poder Latino News, the magazine What’s UP! And to the internet Radio, Latino Radio Mix. In addition, we want to thank the editor of the newspaper La Transformación, Levy Guzman who came from New York to support us. We hope to see you next year at the walk and we wish to remind all readers that the Community Center of Hazleton is open from Monday to

Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 am until 8:00 p.m. We are located at 225 East 4th Street, in the city of Hazleton Pennsylvania and you can contact us by calling 570-861-8081 to learn more about all the programs that we have available and agenda for the next few months.

Statewide Drug Take-Back Program Launched By State Rep. Tarah Toohil (R-Luzerne) Pennsylvania has launched a permanent statewide drug take-back program that will provide up to 250 secure medicine return boxes throughout the Commonwealth. The new MedReturn boxes, installed in Luzerne and 28 other counties, allow individuals to dispose of unused and expired prescription and over-the-counter medication safely and anonymously. Prescription drug abuse has quadrupled in the past 10 years and now results in more deaths than all illicit street drugs combined. Almost all prescription drugs involved in overdoses are originally prescribed by physicians. Improper disposal of prescription drugs could also create environmental hazards impacting groundwater and rivers and harming wildlife. There are three MedReturn boxes currently located in Luzerne County. Those locations include the Hazleton City Police Department, 40 N. Church St., Hazleton; the Pittston City Police Department, 35 Broad St.,

10

Pittston; and the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office, 200 N. River St., Wilkes-Barre. Medications accepted in the MedReturn boxes include prescriptions, prescription patches, prescription medications, prescription ointments, over the counter medications, vitamins, samples and pet medications. Medications not accepted include needles, inhalers, aerosol cans, and thermometers. Under the program, all pharmaceutical drugs being disposed of need to be in a sealed container, such as the original bottle or a zip-lock bag. They may not be disposed of loosely. Liquid pharmaceuticals should remain in the original container. Personal information should be removed or blotted out with a permanent marker. To find a MedReturn box in your area, please visit www.ddap.pa.gov . Representative Tarah Toohil 116th District Pennsylvania House of Representatives Contact: Rep. younger group and 40 percent of the older group saying that they favor the law. (The difference is well within the poll’s margin of error.)

Why Do People Oppose Obamacare? The Answer May Surprise You

The Nation

By: Tamara Lytle |Washington Watch A lot of Americans say they oppose President Obama’s health care reform law. But you may be surprised to learn that of all those who say they oppose the 2010 law because its approach to health care is “too liberal” (35 percent), nearly half again as many oppose it because they think it’s “not liberal enough” (16 percent). This from a recent CNN/ORC survey that shows 43 percent of all Americans in favor of Obamacare — a figure that, for all the politicking on both sides, hasn’t really changed in a year. Opposition from the “too liberal” camp has softened a bit (down from 37 percent in March 2012), while opposition from the “not liberal enough” camp is significantly stronger (up from 10 percent in March 2012). Get discounts on health and wellness products and services with your AARP Member Advantages. More than half (52 percent) of those in the youngest age bracket (18 to 34) favor the law, which may have something to do with the fact that many of them were among the its first beneficiaries: one provision requiresinsurance companies to offer coverage to young adults up to age 26 on their parents’ policies. On the other hand, less than a third (31 percent) of Americans 65 and older favor the law. A lot of their opposition may be rooted in the misconception that Obamacare “cut” Medicare. And, of course, there’s the fact that people in the 65+ age group have

12

access to Medicare and don’t face many of the problems the law was designed to solve — like being turned away by insurers because of preexisting health conditions or paying sky-high premiums because of age. Sign up for the AARP Health Newsletter What about the rest of us? The CNN/ ORC poll shows that, overall, adults between the ages of 35 and 49 and those between the ages of 50 and 64 have pretty much the same view of Obamacare, with 43 percent of the

Kevin Drum of Mother Jones magazine calls the CNN breakdown — which has 54 percent of respondents categorized as opposing the law — “wildly misleading”: If you oppose Obamacare solely because you think it should be more generous, then you’re not part of the group that’s commonly thought of as the opposition: tea partiers, conservatives, Republicans, and so forth. These are the folks who want to repeal Obamacare completely and leave it a smoking husk, and they’re the ones most of us think of as the “opposition.”

Amazon has gone too far FORTUNE -- Because it was Apple (AAPL) that got sued for violating the Sherman Antitrust Act, not Amazon (AMZN), the federal judge who decided the case last July was able to ignore the facts on the ground: Namely, that • Amazon had monopoly control of the e-book market • Amazon kept competitors at bay by pricing publishers’ bestselling e-books below cost • Amazon ruthlessly enforced its control. When challenged in 2010 by Macmillan, one of the big five publishers, Amazon simply pulled the “buy” button off Macmillan’s books. Apple tried to raise these facts in its defense, but U.S. District Judge Denise Cote, in the ruling that found that Apple had conspired with five publishers to raise the price of e-books, dismissed them in two sentences: “If Apple is suggesting that Amazon was engaging in illegal, monopolistic practices, and that Apple’s combination with the Publisher Defendants to deprive a monopolist of some of its market power is pro-competitive and healthy for our economy, it is wrong. Another company’s alleged violation of antitrust laws is not

14

an excuse for engaging in your own violations of law.” (U.S.A. v. Apple: Opinion and Order) Her remedy, Judge Cote wrote, would “restore competition” in the e-book market. This week, we got to see what restored competition looks like. To extract concessions from Hachette, the fourth largest publisher, Amazon has begun delaying delivery of some Hachette titles, removing others from its online bookstore, and in some cases -- including J.K. Rowling’s new novel -refusing pre-orders altogether, according to a front page story in Saturday’s New York Times The situation was summarized in two short paragraphs: “How is this not extortion? You know, the thing that is illegal when the Mafia does it,” said Dennis Loy Johnson of Melville House, echoing remarks being made across social media. Amazon is, as usual, staying mum. “We talk when we have

something to say,” Jeffrey P. Bezos, the founder and chief executive, said at the company’s annual meeting this week. Apple has appealed Judge Cote’s ruling and will be back in court next week for oral arguments on procedural issues. Amazon, meanwhile, may finally get its day in court. “We are determined to protect the value of our authors’ books and our own work in editing, distributing and marketing them,” said Sophie Cottrell, a Hachette senior vice president late Friday, it its strongest statement yet. “We hope this difficult situation will not last a long time, but we are sparing no effort and exploring all options.” The Authors Guild took it one step further: “Amazon clearly has substantial market power and is abusing that market power to maintain and increase its dominance, which likely violates Section 2 of the Sherman Antitrust Act,” Jan Constantine, the Guild’s general counsel, told the Times.

2014 Horoscope

Personal and Social Life in 2014:

Taurus At the beginning of the year, you’re going to be channeling Greta Garbo in “wanting to be alone.” You’ve got a lot on your mind, and though you might have a few days here and there of major support, you’re mostly going to be lost in your thoughts. However, this is likely to dissipate into a desire for Taurusstyle action. Gemini This balance might face a few hiccups as a friend or relative will test your resolve around late November, but don’t let it get to you. All in all, you’re holding your own very well! Your aims this year are going to make you very single-minded. You will likely have a personal financial goal that will prompt a do-or-die feeling all year. You’re going to face a number of planetary influences that will have you measuring your progress, thus giving you a concrete feeling of moving ahead. Cancer Dreams, ideas, and personal connections are going to be extremely valuable to you at the beginning of this year. You have a lot of ideas to sort through, and your friends can be very helpful in making this happen. Some of these ideas can seem very powerful, and others can seem a bit peculiar, but none of them should be dismissed. Jupiter is in your sign at the beginning of the year, and he’s giving an approving nod to your idea-making. With such mental stimulation, it seems you’re charged like a battery, even when Jupiter leaves your sign on July 16.

Virgo This year, two fire signs - Aries (clutching on to Uranus at the beginning of the year) and Leo (seizing Jupiter toward the end) - are acting as stimulants to help bring the best of you to the forefront. A friend or acquaintance will be amazed at what a treasure trove of helpful information you are. At first, you may be dismissive because you’ll have so much on your plate you can barely think about yourself! But in the end, this could well be a channel for a new network of friends or acquaintances, thus opening up a new world for you! This is one of those times when just being yourself will pay off a hundredfold. Libra Like a beautiful and intricate spider web, you’re going to feel connected with others via various strands of communication in 2014. On January 21, the Moon enters Libra and creates a trine with the Sun that helps to enhance your interpersonal skills. People who might have looked past you in previous years are now looking at you, and finding a valuable human being. On one hand, this is going to increase your personal network. On the other hand, you could find that people who need your skills will be coming to you more often. Scorpio The Universe has plotted a way for you to reveal more of your inner self to your friends and family, but you’ll be getting something in return! From February 10 through February 12, the Moon in Cancer will be trine Saturn in

Scorpio, meaning that difficulties within the home will be ironed out through the use of your own personal wisdom. Sagittarius You’re hitting the ground running this year, considering Mars is in Libra and Uranus is in Aries, balancing out the staid effects of Capricorn. With the Moon entering Aries almost immediately (on January 6) you’re finding that chores aren’t back-breaking work but interesting puzzles that you’re bending over backward to solve. Some of your more personal goals may take a while to achieve, but the path to solving them is strewn with solutions to questions you’d lost hope in answering. Capricorn The year begins with five planets in Capricorn - the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Pluto. This suggests that you will be very busy, but that doesn’t just apply to your job/work. Adding to the momentum - particularly later in the year - is Jupiter’s position in Leo starting in mid-July. Not only are you getting your second wind, but at last the work-to-results ratio is skewing in the favor of results. Aquarius You may not believe you have all the answers, but this year you’re going to have the right answers at the right time. If you go to others for advice, you may not be totally satisfied with what you’re hearing. With Saturn leaving secretive Scorpio and entering flighty Sagittarius on December 23, your elevated intuition could eventually pay off more than you expect. Pisces Sometimes when people say the right thing, they’re not just cheering up the person who’s crying for help - they’re often helping themselves as well. On January 31 the Moon conjoins Mercury in Pisces, setting off a time period during which you have a lot to offer others. Then when Mercury goes retrograde and lands in Aquarius on February 12, a friend could come back and reciprocate your help in some manner. Take advantage of it. One good turn always deserves another, and for you, “another” could be beneficial for the rest of the year!

15

Horoscope

Aries If you thought 2014 would be dull, think again. And again. And again! Because, for certain, this will be a year when you’ll do a lot of reassessment. For some people, especially the Aries, this could threaten to sink into selfabsorption. But with all that’s happening, especially with the Capricorn Moon in late January causing a flurry of excessive self-examination, you certainly have the right to be introspective.

Leo If you have a taste for the unusual, this is going to be the year for you! Uranus is mostly in Aries this year, and during the year it creates interesting and harmonious aspects with planets in both your sign and another fire sign, Sagittarius. Because of this, you’re going to be faced with fresh, interesting new challenges that might require you to be on your toes more often. Friends may come to you with interesting puzzles for you to solve. Family may be looking to you for advice that will help a loved one out of a crisis.

Disputes of a great scientist: Stephen Hawking By: Carlos Rodriguez A few years ago, the great scientist Stephen Hawking, one of the most brilliant minds of the 20th century and our present days, which has been known worldwide for its revolutionary theories on black holes and a variety of science books among which are “A Brief History of Time, The Nature of Space and Time, The Origin of the Universe, The Theory of Everything” among others, stated in his book “A Brief History of

16

Time “ that the day that we finally fully understand the laws of the Universe,” that day we would understand the mind of God.” However, Hawking that a few years ago was one of the few scientists who had had an open mind and was a little more sensitive to the concept of God, now takes a more radical stance by stating that the most recent theories of the universe indicate that with the simple laws of nature, the universe could have arisen spontaneously from nothing. That is, without any God. “The Grand Design” is the last book in the long list of Hawnking,

which along with physicist Leonard Mlodinow come to claim that God basically is “irrelevant” to the creation of the universe and that God was not needed to create our whole universe. Hawking adds that since we discovered the first planet orbiting another star in the year 1992, it has been collapsing the concept of a creator. In a conference held at the California Institute of Technology, Stephen Hawking remarked his firm belief in the nonexistence of God. “We are the product of quantum fluctuations in the early universe,” and that, while science seeks to uncover the truth behind reality, the Catholic Church has been hardened to discredit the progress with much less sensible explanations (such as ensuring that the creation of the Universe was a holy event and not a Big Bang). His claims come to contradict himself. From a scientist who believed that when we could understand the laws of the universe we would understand the mind of God, today we have a scientist who is totally confused.

A Look to the Past

Who Was Al Capone? Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1899, Al Capone was the original gangster. He built an organized crime empire in Chicago during the Prohibition era of the 1920s, amassing enough wealth to be unofficially labeled the richest man in America in 1927. While his meteoric rise was unparalleled, his fall was equally swift. Let’s take a closer look. Childhood of Al Capone Al Capone, the Brooklyn born son of Italian immigrants began a life of crime at an early age. Capone left school in the sixth grade and joined a notorious New York street gang whose members included Johnny Torrio, Capone’s future mentor, and a fellow legend of the underworld, Lucky Luciano. With the passage of the Volstead Act in 1919, the Prohibition era was ushered in, marking a golden opportunity for gangsters such as Capone to build profitable bootlegging businesses. Early Rise of Al Capone Around 1920 Capone came to Chicago at Torrio’s invitation and shortly thereafter Torrio was running the Chicago Mob with Capone as one of his right hand men. The two steadily grew in influence and power as they

18

took over most of the bootlegging operations in the city. They also ran a number of businesses that capitalized on vice, such as various clubs and brothels. In 1925 Torrio was critically injured in an assassination attempt and was forced to step down, vacating the head position for Capone. Al Capone at His Peak With Capone the show the Chicago Mob proved brutal to its enemies and immensely profitable for those involved with it. Many estimates place the annual income of the organization while ran it at around $100,000,000 per year. In fact, as previously mentioned, in 1927 he was considered the richest man in America. During this period, Capone gained a reputation amongst the poor and downtrodden of Chicago as a hero, running soup kitchens and showing his generous side to the average citizen from time to time. Valentine’s Day Massacre Orchestrated By Al Capone But it was also during this time that he brutally

consolidated power, perhaps most notably in the infamous St. Valentine’s Day Massacre of 1929. It was believed that Capone’s men, dressed as cops, lined up 7 members of a rival gang, gunning them down in cold blood. Downfall of Al Capone Capone’s run finally ended in 1931 when he was indicted for income tax evasion and numerous violations of the Volstead Act. He went on to serve the majority of his 11 year sentence at Alcatraz and was released a shell of his former self in 1939, suffering the effects of advanced neurosyphillis. He ultimately passed away in 1947 of a stroke. Capone’s story is a fascinating one on many levels. He walked a dark path to being one of the richest men in America and was taken down by the law at the height of his power.

BMW caught crushing its ActiveE electric test cars

As TransportEvolved reported, even though the Electronauts were first in line for new i3 and i8, some felt misty that BMW couldn’t find a home for more of the cars. Since all of the ActiveEs were imported into the United States as “pre-production” cars, there’s no way for BMW to certify them in a way that makes it legal to sell them publicly; the only way to keep them on the road is either through car sharing or re-leasing them. Otherwise, the only environmental action left for the ActiveEs is recycling. / Auto.yahoo.com

New cars come with a set of promises from maker to the owner that the darn things will not fall apart in a way that could kill you for at least a decade. Despite the occasional outburst of broken vows, automakers tend to take this seriously, not just because it’s law. But those promises can result in some odd choices, which is how a flatbed trailer came to be filled with crushed cars that were once lowmileage BMW electric vehicles. In 2010, BMW launched a test program with great fanfare to study EV vehicles and their drivers’ habits, using Minis and BMW 1-Series coupes converted to run on electricity. Some 700 ActiveE cars were leased around the United States to select owners — BMW dubbed them “electronauts” — to drive and report back to BMW before the company launched its own

production electric vehicles this year, the i3 and i8. With the production models in hand, BMW took back the ActiveEs, and announced it would give 70 to a car-sharing service in California. But the fate of the rest were unclear — until someone spotted the crushed and disabled trailer of ActiveEs and posted the photo to Facebook, a move reminiscent of General Motors decision to call back and crush every EV1 on the road.

The dance movements were in fact not by Michael Jackson but apparently the substitute of an artist that recreation his steps for a computer program that later was put into an image that was intended to replicate Jackson. Why Your Child Acts That Way By Elizabeth B. Krieger WebMD Feature

What to do: Talk to children about when and how it’s OK to play jokes and pranks, and how to tell if it goes too far. Is the prank harmless or meanspirited? Does it make someone laugh or distress them? Can your child tell the difference? “Kids sometimes have a stronger sense of humor than they do a sense of consequences, so you might need to help them see how the other person may not be laughing,” Borba says. Pouring on the Drama Why they do it: To get attention or because they’re still learning how to handle their emotions. Some kids may be acting. Others “really feel things deeply, intensely. In the moment, they are devastated,” Huebner says. What to do: Don’t reward it with your attention. Instead, talk about it and about other ways to handle emotions like anger, jealousy, or frustration. Be empathetic. “In the moment, telling her, ‘Hey, it’s no big deal,’ feels to her like you’re minimizing the issue. Instead, say that you understand how hard the situation is, or that you see how frustrated she is.

21

Parenting

Just when you think your child is capable of acting almost “adult,” or at least more mature than they used to be, they do something that makes you wonder what they’re thinking. They stretch the truth, pretend they don’t hear you, or explode into tears seemingly over nothing. They tease and babble like they were still babies. Why? There are usually simple explanations and ways to head off these habits. Fibbing The lies may be little (“Yes, I made my bed!”) to bigger (“No, I didn’t hit my sister.”) but you know that what you’re hearing is far from the truth. Why they do it: Because they fear the punishment; or because they have gotten away with it before and hope they can again; or because they don’t want to disappoint you, says Michele Borba, PhD, author of The Big Book of ParentingSolutions.

Teasing This is good-natured ribbing of friends, siblings, and other family members -- not bullying. Why they do it: Because it’s fun and can make the teaser feel powerful, says Dawn Huebner, PhD, a clinical psychologist in Exeter, N.H., and the creator of theWhat-to-Do Guides for Kids series. What to do about it: Help your child know when they’re going too far and how to be sensitive to other people’s feelings. When your child teases someone who doesn’t like it, take her aside and ask her how her comments are making the other person feel. “Boost their sensitivity skills by encouraging her to look at the other child’s reactions and her facial expressions,” Borba says. Of course, if the teasing is clearly going too far, you should step in to make sure the kids are safe. Then take them aside to talk about what happened and how to prevent it from happening again. Playing Pranks Why they do it: For laughs, to feel powerful, and to get a reaction out of you, Huebner says.

Google Wants To Put Ads On Thermostats (And Everything Else You Own)

There’s a reason Google (among a number of other companies) has been pushing for the internet of things. Not only does it engrain Google in your

24

daily life, but every extra screen it can slap on to your possessions means one very important thing — precious ad space. In a letter Google sent to the Securities and Exchange Commission, Google attempted to justify its decision not to disclose revenue generated from mobile devices because in the future it could be serving ads on “refrigerators, car dashboards, thermostats, glasses, and watches, to name just a few possibilities.” This basically means its mobile device revenue now isn’t a reliable guide for what’s coming — because everything you own will essentially be a revenue jackpot. Enhanced Campaigns allows our advertisers to write one ad campaign, which we serve dynamically to the right user at the right time on whatever device makes the most sense. Because users will increasingly view ads and make purchase decisions on and across multiple devices, our

view of revenue is similarly deviceagnostic. Google even said that its “expectation is that our users will be using our services and viewing our ads on an increasingly wide diversity of devices in the future.” So Google’s decision to buy Nest for $US3.2 billion this past January makes even more sense when you realise it’s potentially just another screen on which Google can force-feed you custom ads. As Google keeps gobbling up hardware manufacturers, brace yourselves. You could be doing your grocery shopping from your thermostat sooner than you know. / gizmodo.com.au

2014 Football World Cup

adidas Brazuca Final Rio unveiled adidas has unveiled the brazuca Final Rio Official Match Ball, the official match ball for the Final of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™. The ball will be an integral part of the fixture on 13 July, when two teams will do battle for a place in history. The design of brazuca Final Rio has been inspired by the green and gold on the FIFA World Cup Trophy and is a variation of the previously released adidas brazuca Official Match Ball, which was launched back in December last year. At the time of the brazuca launch in December, adidas delivered

Cameroon’s preparations Cameroon’s preparations for next month’s FIFA World Cup™ took a knock when the Africans fell 2-1 to Paraguay in a pre-tournament friendly in Kufstein on Thursday. Volker Finke’s men had secured a 2-0 win over Macedonia in Austria earlier this week as they build towards the World Cup, which they begin against Mexico on 13 June. But they were trailing early on Thursday after forward Oscar Romero put the South Americans ahead after just four minutes with Malaga striker

brazucas to all Participating Member Associations competing at Brazil 2014 in order for all teams to have sufficient time to practise with the new balls both in training and competitive matches. Since then, the ball has also played a starring role in competitions such as the FIFA Club World Cup, Copa del Rey, MLS, DFB-Pokal as well as numerous international friendlies. Prior to the official launch, brazuca and brazuca Final Rio went through a thorough testing process over a twoand-a-half-year period, involving more than 600 of the world’s top players and 30 teams in ten countries across three continents, making it the most tested ball ever by adidas and ensuring that it is suited to all conditions. Clubs involved in testing included AC Roque Santa Cruz netting a second after 68 minutes. Mainz striker Maxim Choupo-Moting, who also scored against Macedonia, pulled one back 15 minutes from time for Cameroon. The Africans are in a tough World Cup Group Group A with hosts and favourites Brazil, Croatia and Mexico as they bid to qualify for the knockout stages for the first time since 1990. Samuel Eto’o, who remained on the bench Thursday as planned, is expected play at least 20 minutes against Germany on Sunday. Milan, Bayern Munich, Fluminense and Palmeiras. Players involved in the process included global football stars Leonel Messi, Iker Casillas, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Zinedine Zidane. The technology incorporated into the bladder and carcass of brazuca and brazuca Final Rio is identical to the Tango 12 (UEFA Euro 2012), Cafusa (FIFA Confederations Cup 2013) and the ever-popular UEFA Champions League Official Match Ball. However, a new structural innovation with a unique symmetry of six identical panels alongside a different surface structure will provide improved grip, touch, stability and aerodynamics on the pitch. brazuca has been thoroughly tested to meet and exceed all FIFA metrics for an official match ball, ensuring top performance for every condition. Delaware Water Gap

National Recreation Area, NJ, PA

Traveling

Plan Your Visit About two hours from New York City or Philadelphia is a 40-mile river valley. Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area encompasses nearly 70,000 acres along the Middle Delaware National Scenic and Recreational River in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. At the southern end of this park the river cuts an S-shaped pass through the mountains, forming the Delaware Water Gap. Millions of years of uplift, erosion, and glacial activity gave us the Water Gap, lakes, streams that flow through hemlock- and rhododendron-laced ravines, and the waterfalls that pour off the Pocono Plateau. The crisp, cool air around the waterfalls is refreshing, especially in summer. In the 1800s resorts flourished throughout the region where city dwellers arrived by carriage or rail, often spending the entire summer away from the urban heat. The Water Gap became a scenic wonder for fashionable travelers.

26

Today the river and its valley remain a major vacation haven. Although transportation and the lengths of stay may have changed, many who remember family trips, summer camp, or their honeymoon return to reminisce at a favorite site in the park. In 1965 Congress established Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area to preserve this natural and historic area.

Enjoy this rural vacationland. Did You Know? ... that the Appalachian Trail (AT) runs more than 25 miles through Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. l a i c rt e o p p S e Mystery of Flight R370 By: Carlos Rodriguez Flight 370 was a Malaysia Airlines plane that disappeared on March 8, 2014 on the sea belonging to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Although it is known that it is more likely that the aircraft fell into the sea, the causes of its decline are still a mystery. The aircraft was reported for the last time with the air traffic controllers

at 01:30 a.m. and lost radar contact with the Air Traffic Control Center of Subang (Malaysia) at 02:40, two hours after take off. However, the families of the persons aboard the aircraft reported that, in a desperate attempt to communicate with their loved ones, many of then tried to call the mobile phone of the passengers of the plane, in whish some reported that many cell phones

28

continued ringing up to two days after the incident. On Sunday, March 23, 2014 it was reported that the plane had crashed and that the 277 people and 12 crew members aboard had died. The cause: bad weather (perhaps), mixed with human failure. But this explanation is short compared to the large number of unknowns that emerged after the disappearance of the aircraft. Many of them have not yet been resolved and some have not been able to be explained. This is a small list of the anomalies of Flight 370 1) Unlike the 9-11, the passengers of the plane did not use cell phones as would be the regular in a hostage situation. This could also

be caused by the cover of the aircraft, which could make the times cage Faranday avoiding that passengers used any type of communication technology. 2) The aircraft disappeared from the radar without leaving a trail, in spite of the fact that the Chinese experts in aeronautical communications are still saying that when an airplane crashes

it should still be followed seeing on the radar, although it was in pieces, as in an explosion. 3) The plane took a turn of 180 degrees before disappearing altogether. This does not have been explained yet and is the main track (idea) for those who believe that the ship was hijacked. This does not explain why the plane did not continued to be in the radar. 4) This accident, very tragic for China and for the planet, accounted for a large profit for Jacob de Rothschild, who benefited from the death of 4 Chinese partners, with whom was patented a new superconductor. Rothschild is now the sole owner of the patent, which will be a thousand times more millionaire than before the accident. Conclusion: there is NO doubt that something is missing from this puzzle. And there is no proof that the aircraft crashed into the sea, this situation will remain as one of the greatest mysteries of modern aviation. The key piece to find the real truth would be the black box, which could reveal the mysterious secrets of what happened with the flight 370 of Malaysia Airlines.

How can you prevent bullying

please remember that we can make our world a better place by stopping

and saying “How can I help” or “How can I make it better”.

The Anti-Bullying Page

By: Fanny Rodriguez (13 years Old)

The word “bullying”, yes, we heard about it all the time but have we learned it well yet? Some people say it’s easy to say no to bully but most of the people just don’t understand that bullying is not a game. Many teenagers around the world bully other kids. But how can we prevent this to happen? Well, many people don’t know how to prevent it from happening but here are some ways to prevent this from happening: 1. Learn how to recognize bullying.
