Our 30th Americade!
How’d we get here so fast? Back in ‘81, my wife Gini and I decided to live full-time where we’d previously vacationed in the beautiful Adirondack Mountain region which we loved so much. Initially I had no plans to do so, but as a rider all my life I soon realized that a big event for touring motorcyclists could fit very well here, and offer a lot of fun riding and activities. Starting with the excellent availability of the 3 Rs: Roads, Rooms & Restaurants, add the scenic wonders of the Adirondacks, plenty of planning and organizing unique events, many great volunteers, a pinch of luck, and stir. Presto: Aspencade in May 1983. We changed its name to Americade a few years later and the event has grown and grown. Having set out to create a family oriented event, in the process we’ve spent the past 30 years sharing the best of the Lake George Region with over half a million motorcyclists. The event has expanded with the help and support of family, friends, fantastic staff and fabulous sponsors. Major motorcycle manufacturers, vendors, and thousands of riders now have “Americade” etched on their annual schedules. A few riders have been registered to every one ! That’s impressive, and we’d like to show our thanks with this offer: if your name appears in the 1983 and ‘84 Official Programs or if you have an official T-shirt or pin from those events and our records show regular attendance since then, we’ll give you a free full-week registration and recognize you on stage Friday evening. Just be sure to let us know before March 1. For 2012 we’ve hatched up the best event ever with many new 30th Celebration activities which will be fully described in the 2012 Fact Sheet and on our website starting early February. And don’t worry, we wouldn’t forget the classic activities that you love, like boat cruises, rides and rodeos.

2011 Hi Right from the get-go, registration at the Holiday Inn was humming. Thousands showed up on Monday to collect their Pre-Registration packages and get the week started. Many got a head start on the week-long Scavenger Hunt before rolling into the new Social HQ at Ft. William Henry (FWH) for an incredible Opening Celebration that evening. Relocating our social HQ to a centralized location created an opportunity for more, more, more...
14 manufacturers came to Americade to provide demo rides: hundreds of new bikes to try out! This was probably a record for 2011 anywhere. Not only did FWH offer a great location to bring the manufacturers together, it was also the home to motorcycle judging, fun contests, daily door prize drawings, dozens of seminars & workshops, sumptuous meals, and exciting evening entertainment. For history buffs, the FWH Museum Tour brought the French & Indian War to life. For others, the Fort’s famous Ghost Tours brought infamous characters from the past to life, too! Tuesday and Wednesday crowds streamed in to see Stunt Rider Champion Geoff Aaron’s gravity defying show.
For those needing a break from all the activity, FWH boasts the most stunning views of Lake George to be found---anywhere. At any time of day, Americaders could be found relaxing on the grassy lawns overlooking the lake, around the fountain or along the shaded deck. Every morning thousands lined up in front of FWH (on Beach Rd) to take off for a day of riding with experienced MiniTour Guides. For those wanting a less structured adventure, we offered Un-guided MiniTours---where riders could roll at their own pace while still getting in on all the fun of great food, amazing locations and sponsors’ door prizes. Tourers explored many sites of natural beauty, man-made wonders, and also enjoyed delicious meals at the destinations. Ride, ride, ride... If MiniTours weren’t enough, we offered 30 Self Guided tours & 2 Charity Poker Runs to chose from. One Americader estimated that Americade MiniTourers rode a total of over a 1/2 million miles this year, over hill & dale, thru mountain passes, along scenic shores, and through the Adirondack and Green Mountain twisties!

ghlights Our rides may be designed to WOW, but the evenings were there to kick back, relax, and keep the fun coming. Dinner Cruises on Lake George and the RodeoBBQ continued to be crowd favorites. Eleven cruises over 5 days gave all the opportunity to see the lake from “the other side.” Folks could choose one of 3 lively themed boats or a “regular” relaxing 2 hr voyage along the majestic shore. The Rodeo-BBQ roped in hundreds of folks to enjoy the down-home goodness of a Texas BBQ while watching the western action. After all the food & fun, there was plenty of time to meander back to FWH to catch the evening’s entertainment. Over the course of 6 evenings, Americaders were entertained by comedian Alonzo Bodden and stories peppered with humorous anecdotes from by industry leaders or dazzled by the latest moto fashions, lighting contests and the illuminated bike parade. Wednesday night’s hot air balloon glow mesmerized onlookers as the huge, brightly colored balloon slowly inflated to tower over FWH’s five storied hotel. If the mood struck, Americaders could groove to the tunes coming from the Party on the Lawn overlooking the lake.
FWH...or via the air-conditioned buses shuttling between the two tradeshow sites. The fun-filled week culminated with 2 celebrations, the Friday Night Spectacular at Great Escape and Saturday’s Party on Prospect. On Friday night, Americaders wrapped up their week with great food, then music by Groove Therapy. We announced the top contest & judging winners and distributed over $30,000 dollars in Major Door Prizes. Still more prizes and (saturated) fun was to be had on Saturday at the top of Prospect Mt. after a mouth-watering chicken and rib barbecue. The Central Florida Precision Drill Team impressed with their big bike, slow and close riding expertise. Another action-packed Americade Week! Check out the following pages to learn more about the prizes we won, the places we went & the sponsors who helped us get there.
When not out riding, Americaders were busy checking out the hundreds of vendors & displays at two TourExpo locations--both an easy walk from the free motorcycle parking at Father Jogue’s Park and

Opening Celebrations Music, prizes, food & fun. What a way to start the week! The Evening began with a Newcomers’ Meeting to highlight all the activities available and help folks learn the insiders’ secrets to making the most of their Americade Week. J & M contributed fantastic door prizes to give Newbies a taste of the fun to come. Pre-Registered Americaders were the Guests of Honor at RIDER Magazine’s Opening Celebration under the Big Top Tent on the FWH lawn overlooking majestic Lake George. Monday Night was the first look at the new Americade Social Headquarters and before the party began, folks were invited to join one of several guided tours around the property. Afterward, party-goers had a wide variety of delectable desserts to chose from on their way to the main stage where Rider’s Clement Salvadori gave away over $7500 in door prizes from, among others--- Dunlop, Olympia MotoSports, Road Gear, Cardo/Scala Rider, Stop n’ Go International, and Whitehorse Press. The evening didn’t stop there, Groove Therapy played music into the night. Folks were welcome to dance or kick back and enjoy the view. Everywhere the eye could see, Americaders were settling in for an evening of entertainment with friends both new & old.

Charity Poker Runs Two days of fun and a good deed to boot!
Once again, the Blue Moose hosted the start of both days of the 2011 Charity Poker Runs. They provided hot beverages, coffee cake, and assorted baked goods to participants on Thursday & Friday mornings. Players traveled over 100 miles in search of five stops where they were met by Americade Staff and had their cards punched. Along the way they visited with residents at West Mount Nursing Home, enjoyed home-made ice cream, and took in some spectacular sights. BMW, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Kawsaki, KTM, Kymco, Motor Trike, Roadsmith, Triumph, Victory, and Yamaha donated thousands of $ in great door prizes to all the participants, AMA contributed special prizes to the top 3 AMA winners---awards were given at the Friday Night Spectacular at the Great Escape.

We found Americaders in some of the darnedest places. The 4th annual Scavenger Hunt had folks hunting high & low for out of the way places to get their cards stamped. There were plenty of chances to win fabulous prizes from Scala Rider. Only one stamp from 8 communities was required to enter---but there were incentives to visit all 10 towns & 30 locations. By doing so, players were able to DOUBLE & TRIPLE their chances to win! MiniTours...
Let’s face it...you came to ride. That’s what Americaders are all about. Riding the spectacular roads in and around the 6 million acre Adirondack Park, along the shores of Lake George & Lake Champlain, and through the pastoral landscape, quaint towns & mountains of Vermont offered an unbeatable experience. Couple the ride with a spectacular destination & delicious lunch--- you’ve got the makings for a fantastic day. It really doesn’t get much better than this! Guided MiniTours departed bright & early each morning as the mists rose off the lake. Thousands rolled out to explore what the region had to offer and make their way to a spectacular luncheon destination. Unguided MiniTours allowed folks to take off at their own pace and meet up with other Americaders for a refreshing break with food & fun. Whether traveling in a group or on your own---MiniTourers had the opportunity to visit with other riders while enjoying a mouthwatering meal and

Rodeo BBQ
Wednesday was the BIG night for bronc fans to take in an exciting professional rodeo with a dee-licious Texas BBQ to boot! Hundreds of Americaders moseyed up to the Chuck Wagon for Smoked Chicken and Pulled pork with Green Bean Casserole, Apple Crisp and all the fixin’s. Nobody goes hungry at the Painted Pony Ranch.
Once all the cow-hands were fed, the fun got started down at the corral with covered stadium seating. The professional rodeo with bull & bronc ridin’ had folks cheering in their seats. The boys from Cycle Solutions were on hand with hundreds of dollars in goodies to lucky prize winners. Later---the Longhorn Saloon opened its doors so folks could two-step into the night.
3 Course Dinners With 4 nights to chose from, 100s of Americaders made their way to Ft. William Henry’s White Lion Room for an extraordinary evening of good food, great conversation and spectacular views. Even though Wednesday evening was the annual Red Knights Corporate Supper, the dinner was open to all. Club Officers were on hand to meet current and potential members and distribute endless door prizes. Thursday, Friday & Saturday were hosted by TourMaster and Cortech. Folks who were lucky enough to win one of the fabulous door prizes got a head start on suiting up in all kinds of riding gear. Diners were treated to a four star experience of Sliced NY Sirloin, Roasted Pork Loin, Baked Salmon, salad, dessert and more. Afterward, folks could wander around the grounds for music, Lighting Contests, Comedy Shows & more... FWH was the place to be in the evenings!

Comedy Shows Thursday & Friday were charged with laughs. Headliner Alonzo Bodden, winner of NBC’s Last Comic Standing, and opening act Jodi Weiner had folks laughing in the aisles and catching their breath as the next joke broke. Jodi tuned ‘em up just right. When Alonzo, an avid motorcyclist himself, came on stage---he immediately established rapport with the audience. Playfully teasing just about every motorcycle group represented in the crowd, the take no prisoners give and take with the group really showcased his quick wit. This was Alonzo’s first experience with Americade and he shared with us what a GREAT time HE had. Thursday was an Americade Only exclusive for Registered Attendees. We opened the doors on Friday for General Admission ---and lots of Americaders made it to this second show as well. Both evenings were supercharged by Yuasa with electrifying door prizes for lucky audience members,

Adventure Events All the riding is great...but sometimes it’s fun to see what’s going on, off the bike. Whether treating yourself to a relaxing ride over the patchwork fields and maze of roads, or climbing into a different kind of saddle, or joining a group of other thrill seekers---we helped round out your Adirondack Experience. All week long, thousands of folks took to the skies, trails, and waterways seeking adventure. Some got up before the crack of dawn in preparation for a Hot Air Balloon Ride into the crisp morning air. Catching a glorious sunrise over the Green Mountains and surrounding countryside was a GREAT way to start the day. For others, the Saddle Up adventure took them along the piney trails, grassy meadows, and into the surrounding mountains for a fabulous view of Lake George! One of the most popular events, White Water Rafting, had hundreds gliding down the Hudson River and shooting through Class II & III rapids on Wednesday & Friday mornings. Those wanting more of a thrill came out for a Full day of rafting on Friday! By popular demand, we’re adding more Adventure Events in 2012.

Boat Cruises
Thousands took to the water aboard one of eleven special Americade Dinner Cruises. Each 2-hour lake cruise took off from the foot of Lake George and headed north along the shore, dipping into secluded bays, and gliding by rustic Adirondack style camps, impressive historic homes, and other points of interest. Passengers dined inside or on deck and then strolled around to enjoy the fresh lake breeze and the unfolding views. Some stayed inside to enjoy the live entertainment.
18
www.americade.com
Themed Cruising returned by popular demand. There was a choice of three, on Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday evenings. Each had a special, themed menu & entertainment, and based upon the compliments, they were an experience to remember! Tuesday featured the King of Rock cruise, with the famous tribute artist, Donny Romines, who entertained the crowd & wooed the women. Many gals grabbed their hunka burnin’ love and rocked the dance floor until the boat came home to port! Wednesday welcomed back the Mardi Gras Cruise---a definite fan favorite. After this year’s party we’re ready to rename The Saint as “The Big Easy.” Passengers were decked out in the gallery with colorful Mardi Gras beads while the authentic Cajun Zydeco band played and the Captain let the Good Times Sail!
Partiers feasted on a Cajun Buffet which included chicken & sausage Jambalaya, seafood creole, red beans w/rice, french bread, assorted salads, bread pudding dessert, and beverages. Thursday was LUAU night. A Hawaiian band and show, with hip-shakin’ Hula dancers, exciting fire-breathers and more. This Hawaiian Buffet included Kahlua pork, sweet & sour chicken, rice pilaf, Hawaiian macaroni salad, Hawaiian cole slaw, pineapple upside down cake, and beverages.
All cruises, Tuesday thru Saturday, traveled several miles up this beautiful body of water---giving a unique perspective as to why this region is so special. Each cruise also included a tasty buffet, commentary from the Captain, music, and generous door prizes from the sponsors:
If Themed Cruising wasn’t your speed, we also offered our version of “Free-Style” cruising. Eight cruises offered a less structured environment for those who wanted something good to eat and enjoying the views & the music.

Riding Shows Geoff Aaron
Tuesday & Wednesday evenings kicked off at Fort William Henry with 10-Time AMA Trials Champion and winner of 73 National competitions, Geoff Aaron, as he performed his amazing stunt show in front of a mesmerized audience. His trials bike looked more like a unicycle with just one wheel-rear or front--on the ground for much of the performance. Geoff’s vertical climbs atop his rig with sudden stops---frozen in motion; his jumps and spins looked effortless but his control and balance were astounding. The audience collectively held their breath watching Geoff’s heart-stopping stoppies and bunny hops over his trusting sidekick lying prone on on the pavement. Spectacular!
NY State Troopers & Central Florida Precision Drill Team Always the professionals... Saturday’s riding demonstrators didn’t let a “little drizzle” stop em’. The NY State Troopers & Central Florida Precision Drill Team suited up and showed us how it’s done in the rain. The Troopers demonstrated how to weave through tight turns with confidence & authority. Afterward they offered individual instruction. The CFPDT glided their Gold Wings and big Harleys through their complex routine with grace and meticulous timing.

An appreciative audience roundly applauded both impressive performances.

Party on the Lawn
After a day of MiniTours, Demo Rides, Judging, Seminars, and shopping at TourExpo, Americaders needed a break from the go, go, go...we gave ‘em a place to do it.
The Big Top Tent at FWH was the venue for a different band each night on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. After the Opening Celeb- ration, Groove Therapy’s terrific 7 piece band stayed on to entertain party goers with their energetic mix of rock, R&B and even some country. Tuesday featured an all girl band---the aptly named Babe Band. Their music was inspired by rock, moved by pop, and had a whole lot of soul. On Wednesday, the everpopular Stony Creek Band with their distinctive Adk sound rooted in folk and country entertained all with the magical backdrop of the Balloon Glow. The Stony Creek Band

TourExpo @ the Beach... The bar is raised AGAIN!
A record number of vendors kicked TourExpo up yet another notch this year. With over 250 vendors and displays at both locations---the Beach and The Forum were bursting at the seams with motorcycle gear and accessories. Shoppers lined up at the GMAC Main Gates every morning to check out the eye candy-everything from motorcycle headsets to trikes, trailers and motorcycle lifts. Whether you were looking for helmets, gloves or boots, leathers or shiny chrome---TourExpo had the vendor for you! If you were looking for Americade souvenirs or official logo tees the Official Americade Tee Shirt Booth offered a wide variety of Americade loot---everything from pins to classic denim shirts. Both TourExpo locations had much to offer. The spacious, air-conditioned, indoor space of the Forum was a popular place to cool down; and the Beach attracted those looking to have work done on their bikes: installation of custom seats, suspensions, saddlebags, and exhausts, chrome accessorizing, even pinstriping. Getting there was a nice experience itself. There was plenty of free motorcycle parking conveniently located between both TourExpo locations. Helping Americaders get

During the past 29 years, Americade has finetuned the event so that it satisfies most riders, and for the BIG 30th Celebration we’ve even come up with some exciting new ways to satisfy ! Let’s start with a very special Monday evening Opening Celebration Carnival: many different booths with a special circus theme; all overlooking the lake on the grassy back lawn of FWH. The place will be jumping with live music, games, and of course, tons of door prizes. This year, in response to your requests, we’re extending TourExpo’s hours to 7 pm on Thursday and Friday evenings. A new Fiesta Boat Cruise with a fun Latin theme will be added to the other dozen scenic boat cruises. More, and More Motorcycle Stuff! In 2011, a record 250+ vendors were at TourExpo Beach and Forum. We’re striving to top even that, this celebration year. Fun and laughs: in addition to the return of hilarious comedian Alonzo Bodden, we know “Americade’s Got Talent,” and you can show it to us! It’s an opportunity for you to be the stars. Start planning now for the show---we’re excited to see what Americaders come up with. New demo bikes from the manufacturers. Lots of new bikes to try out because Americaders are serious riders and buyers, so the manufacturers will present their latest and greatest. Come ride with us New MiniTours, both guided and unguided, that take you on new scenic mountain routes to wonderful new dining spots with character - and doorprizes.

Featured Speakers Question: What gives these speakers the street cred to stand up in front of a group of other riders? Answer: Years on 2 Wheels.
Lee Parks Author- “Total Control” Owner- Total Control Training
These Industry Leaders have ridden the roads of the world...putting their advanced riding skills to the test in some pretty amazing places. They have technical know-how and some pretty unique perspectives about the motorcycling community.
Christa & Florian Neuhauser Editor & Contributor RoadRUNNER
On Tuesday evening Lee Parks, Clement Salvadori, & Fred Rau entertained the assembled group with topics ranging from “Skill vs. Stupidity (on a motorcycle)”, riding thru European mountain passes & forests, and how to write it all down for others to share.
Clement Salvadori Contributor - Rider and American Rider Magazines
Christa & Florian Neuhauser continued the theme on Wednesday--but went further afield into the Andes of South America. Later that evening, Ken Condon enumerated some of the mistakes he’s made and the lessons Ken Condon Columnist - MCN Magazine he’s learned from professional and Author-”Riding in the Zone” recreational riding over the years. Saturday was a reflection of what motorcycling has come to mean to all who gather in Lake George the first week of June every year. Bill Dutcher described Americade’s past and discussed current trends in the industry & the future of motorcycling, followed by a Q & A session.
Fred Rau Contributor - MCN Magazine Author- “Motorcycle Touring Bible”

Anyway you look at it, each evening had something for everyone; to entertain, inform, and leave ‘em wanting more.

Bill Dutcher Americade Founder
Fort Museum & Ghost Tours Fort William Henry hosted exclusive tours for Americaders to get an exclusive look into Lake George’s past. Folks were treated to a tour through the ramparts, battlements, barracks and parade grounds of one of our country’s best preserved French & Indian War sites! A town with such a long history also has its share of ghostly inhabitants--for those who dared, there was a tour thru the Fort and select village locales where paranormal gumshoes were able to visit with Native & Colonial locals of the past.

Field Events
Thursday afternoon was a great time to join fellow motorcyclists for a test of riding skills & humility. Contestants defied the laws of nature by creeping along on some pretty big machines. When that wasn’t enough, they grabbed a passenger and added a balancing act to the fun. Some even won a trophy and prizes from BIG SKINNY WALLETS for their effort. Golf Ball Balance 1st - Stephen Henry & Ed Nevin Bradford, Ont & Downsville, NY
2nd - Russell & Michael Thorne Greenwood Lake, NY Slow Race 1st - Huascar Amador - Jacksonville, FL 1989 - Harley Davidson FXSTC 1340 2nd - Richard De Jong - Caledon, Ont 1998 - Kawasaki Concours 1000
Bowling Thunder
Tuesday was a fun night for all who rolled out for Bowling Thunder. Trading in their motorcycle boots for bowling shoes, experienced and amateur bowlers alike teamed up into foursomes and had a ball. A not-so-serious competition had Americaders contending for either the highest or lowest score. Generous prizes were awarded by the enthusiastic reps from ScalaRider who always enjoy the camaraderie of Bowling Thunder. Between games, the competitors were treated to delicious Italian fare with Baked Ziti & Meatballs and dessert.

Fashion Show This year the popular Wednesday and Thursday night fashion shows were held in historic Towers Hall where new moto-fashions & gear contrasted with the vintage architecture. Fashions provided by a combination of motorcycle manufacturers and TourExpo vendors created a fun and varied show highlighting the latest styles and convenient features that riders appreciate. $15,000 worth of door prizes were given away each night. Some apparel, like leather jackets, were taken right off the models’ backs and given away. Others, like cool hats and tees, were lobbed out to the eager audience. This tradition has always attracted an enthusiastic, standing-room-only crowd of fashionistas. Entertaining as always, emcee Fred Rau seemed to enjoy himself as much as the fans did.

Best of Show Winner
All week long, Americade Motorcycle Judging Officials eyeballed hundreds of bikes looking for “that special one.” This year Doug Kellar from Adams, NY picked up the coveted Best of Show trophy and a nice new set of tires Dunlop. Lodging Tips
To Indian Lake North River
• Check out the Accommodation Guide on the preceding pages. • Don’t just call the first few places in the guide; they tend to get called the most. • Call the Chambers of Commerce who advertise here for recommendations. • Many small hotels don’t open up their reservation system until April, so a call then will often have success and a lower rate. • There are many small towns within a 25 minute ride and they tend to have more available space and lower rates.

Nights of Lights... Wednesday evening, the Balloon Glow lit the skies to the delight of all. FWH’s battlements & fountain and Lake George served as dramatic backdrops to the magical experience. The same evening included the Functional Lighting Contest, also known as the “Battle of the Bulbs,” sponsored by PIAA. It ‘Illuminated” the practical side of lighting. The focus was bathing the dark roadway with mega-lumens without dazzling oncoming motorists.

The Fort William Henry grounds were alight mid-week with the Balloon Glow, Functional & Decorative Lighting Contests, and Light Parade. On Thursday, just after dark, Americaders with special lighting effects were invited to show off their creations in the Decorative Lighting Parade. Immediately after the parade, the Decorative Lighting Contest sponsored by Corbin Seats showcased the most creatively lit bikes with everything from subdued under lighting, to “rings of fire, to flashing LED displays which were synchronized to music.

Friday Night Spectacular Everybody was excited to get Americade’s biggest night of the week started. Thrilling rides, funny water show, delicious food, a great band, special awards, spectacular fireworks, and fabulous door prizes awaited inside The Great Escape amusement park. Dinner Ticket holders were allowed early access to the park---the first 1000 motorcycles got to drive right in and park near all the action! Before dinner the Giant Ferris Wheel, Sasquatch Tower, Comet Roller Coaster, Pirate Ship, Blizzard, & Go Carts were open for all those wanting to build up an appetite. Lake George Rotary Motorcycle Winner! Choices, Choices...wouldn’t we all like to be so lucky? After this year’s Lake George Rotary Motorcycle Drawing Brian Van Houten of Hurleyville, NY had quite a choice to make. Harley Davidson Ultra Classic or Honda Gold Wing? As a lifelong Honda rider you wouldn’t think the choice would be difficult. Brian started riding a Honda 450 in 1969 and had graduated up to a 2008 Gold Wing a few years ago as a retirement present to himself. However, Brian’s son Neal is an avid H-D rider and likes to cruise with his dad whenever possible. Given the fact that his wife REALLY likes the Wing---it was a toss up. So---what did he chose? The Harley-Davidson, to make ‘em both happy. Now he has two bikes to ride; one with each of his two favorite people. Which would you choose?
