New Location for Easter Eggstravaganza Freedom High School in Oakley by Laurie Darroch-Meekis The Easter Eggstravaganza is only a few weeks away. This phenomena started as a small event 6 years ago, in a pitted field near the old church site in Brentwood. The church was much smaller then, still in its infancy, but now has grown to see the fruition of all its hard work and seed planting. The reasoning behind this awesome event and all the other activities that day is that Mountain View Christian Center wants to give back to the people in the local communities, no matter who they are or where they come from. Your background makes no difference and all are welcome. This year the main sponsor is Trinity Christian School, another growing
branch of Mountain View Christian Center. As Pastor Jerry so eloquently puts it, “This is not about what we do inside the walls of our church, but what we do outside.” They aren’t trying to push
the church down people’s throats at the festivities; if you have attended in past years, you know the warm spirit is there. You will see joy on faces all over the Eggstravaganza grounds. This is a “love thy neighbor and do good will for
everyone” gathering. It is intented to show the love of Christ in action, not by lecture. It is a day for everyone of all ages to gather with a blessed spirit and welcoming smiles. God blesses us to bless others. Cont. on page 2

The Eggstravaganza is FREE to anyone attending. No entrance fee and no cash donations are accepted that day. If the spirit moves you to give, donations are accepted prior to the event at Mountain View Christian Center. They are located at 5000 Amaryllis Street in Oakley. The day is kept to the spirit of the event. The price was paid at Calvary. In the beginning of the Easter Eggstravaganza’s history, it was a much smaller gathering. There were only 10,000 stuffed eggs put out that very first year. The church threw the event anticipating 500 visitors. Not everyone thought they would get that many, but over 1,000 came. From that first Eggstravaganza, the hunt has grown each year to become the spectacular gathering it is now. The second year it increased to 8,000 participants, the third to 16,000, the fourth to32,000. Last year, anticipating a possible 45,000 people attending, they hit an astonishing 52,000 participants.
The Largest Egg Hunt on the West Coast! Don’t miss this one!!!
It was awesome to see so many people gathered there to participate at such a positive event. Because of the economy, MVCC is hoping to see 60,000 people come this year. They will have 250,000 eggs dispersed at age related hunts throughout the day. With the newer and larger setting at Freedom High, the Easter Eggstravaganza will be able to better accommodate the bigger group, and be able to spread the many and varied activities out more. There is more parking available this year too. What else will be there? If you have never attended, be prepared to be astonished at the sheer size, variety of fun activities and amount of work that goes into hosting and running the Eggstravaganza. Dedicated volunteers staff most of it. This year there are 50 bouncers of all types, climbing activities, a petting zoo, pony rides, a 30 foot truck slide and laser tag. Don’t forget the free hot dogs, cotton candy, popcorn and drinks. Of course the crown event is the
Easter egg hunt. The hunts are scheduled all day long. A fresh fully stocked hunt is set up each time. There is even a hunt just for the adults who are still willing to dive in and enjoy a bit of free spirited and energetic fun. If you have very young children who are able to participate, there is a separate and gentler area set up specifically for them. Every age has a welcoming place at the Eggstravaganza. Helping Hands Ministry will be present at this year’s Easter Eggstravaganza too. The ministry was started almost two years ago at the old Brentwood location on Harvest Park Drive. At the time they had about 5 people who came regularly. Now the weekly attendance numbers have jumped, with 45 to 60 people participating each week. Not only does it provide food and clothing for the body, each week a message of hope is offered along with those physical gifts. Helping Hands Ministry is food for the body and the soul. Helping Hands is asking for everyone that comes
to the Eggstravaganza to please bring a canned food donation if you are able to. You can bring it that day or donate ahead of time at the church. Come one, come all on Saturday the 11th of April! Bring family and friends too. Have a joyous, energetic and busy day at the huge Eggstravaganza and give all the praise and honor to the Lord. There will be seven separate egg hunts throughout the day with 4 and 5 years of age starting at 10:30am. The egg hunt for 0-3 years of age will be going on all day long and they will have their own area for safety purposes. Easter Eggstravaganza hours are: 9:30am to 4pm. Egg Hunt times for all ages are on the front page of this America’s Good News edition.

THE PUBLISHER AND EDITOR OF AMERICA’S GOOD NEWS SPEAK OUT ON PRESIDENT OBAMA
PRESIDENT OBAMA Editor-in-Chief Will Byrns by Jerry Hanoum and Will Byrns John has been a devout Christian since the age of twenty-two. He is now fortynine, has a lovely wife named Debbie, three grown children and four grandchildren. He is happily married, goes to church every Sunday and shares his faith and conservative views with most everyone he meets. He is employed with a major automobile company and is in a position of authority as he oversees the work of eighty men at a manufacturing plant in Detroit. John also spends countless hours devoted to charity work and the spreading of the Gospel. He reaches out to the homeless in the area that he lives in twice a week as his church provides food, clothing and prayer for those in need. He has a big heart to serve the Lord and has a great deal of compassion for the lost. He prays with power and passion for hurting souls that come to the outreach ministry. Christian Soteriology focuses on our love for bringing in the lost so that they may come to know Him. Christ commanded us to love one another. John 13:34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” Recently John was listening to the radio with a friend of his as they were driving back to the church from an outreach event. The radio spokesperson was ranting about some of the new policies our new President Barack Obama, had put into place. The radio

personality was asking that listeners stand in agreement with him that our new President be removed, even to the point of praying for his failure. Over the next 30 minutes, many listeners were calling in, also voicing their disgust with our President and shouting aloud with endless hostile complaints. John was in agreement that some of President Obama’s policies are not in line with his faith, so he joined in on the mutiny. We have seen a large number of Christians complain and whine over the last couple months about our President. It’s getting ugly and disgraceful. Is this exercising the love that is spoken of in John 13? Is this how we should treat our own President?
or are you a Christian that is also a plumber? Are you a Republican or Democratic that is a Christian? You would be wise to be a Christian first that happens to be a Democratic or Republican. Your Christianity should always dictate your identity first and foremost.
A great leader by the name of Greg Winn once said, “Don’t come to me with a complaint or problem unless you also have a solution for it.”
Let’s look back at John’s love for people as he strives to be Christ-like. He prays for the sick, the lost and the needy. He prays for them to draw closer to the Lord. He prays for them to be guided by the Holy Spirit. He prays for their healing and that they would achieve great and mighty things for God’s glory. That’s good stuff, but wait… John won’t pray for God’s guidance and success of a man in authority over him? What? Why not? What does the Bible say about governing authorities? Romans 13:1 [Submission to the Authorities] Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Once more, the authorities that exist have been established by God. There is no argu-
Well, the short story above is definitely a problem. So what is the solution? John has voted along party lines for the better part of his adult life and has grown accustomed to their politically correct stance on certain issues. John, at times has let his party affiliation overrule who he is as a believer. But many times his party has let him down when it comes to certain issues that he is passionate about. Let’s face it; many of us are going through an identity crisis when it comes to our party affiliation. Are you a plumber that happens to also be a Christian,
There’s a problem if your identity hinges on whether you’re a Republican, Democrat or Independent. The solution is… Be a Christian that will pray for and submit to the authoritative figure that is leading this great country that we are blessed to live in. There is always POWER IN UNITY AND PRAYER!

ing about that one. God knew beforehand who would be President and He established it. Whether you voted for Obama or not, he is our President and we should have respect for him and the position he holds. As a man or woman of God, if we find it in our hearts to pray in love for lost souls to be led by the Spirit and come to Christ, wouldn’t it make complete sense to pray for God to guide our President, bring him success and draw him closer to His mighty love and presence? Philippians 4:6 –Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Pray for God to touch our President and “RENEW a right SPIRIT in HIM.” Pray that he would become a strong leader who would make Godly decisions when it comes to governing the people. The solution is prayer! Please feel free to respond with any comments: Letters to the Editor at mvcc2@ sbcglobal.net

A CANDLELIGHT VIGIL HELD IN REMEMBRANCE OF LOUIS STRAITEN Let’s band together as a community and put an end to violence in Contra Costa County. Call your local police department and find out what programs are available, and how to get involved. by Diana Dobbie “Someone” can help a family find peace and solve an unspeakable crime. On Tuesday, March 16, 2009 approximately 40 people attended a mother’s candlelight vigil for her 16 year old son who was brutally and senselessly murdered in front of the Deer Valley Regal Cinema in Antioch two years earlier. Victoria Straiten, the mother of Louis Straiten (AKA Byrd) gathered family, friends and local community support together and as one they all prayed for peace, understanding and closure. “Amazing Grace” and “This Little Light of Mine” were sung as candles were lit. Some people cried in grief and sorrow, some shared fond memories. You could see the light of a mother’s love for her son as Victoria shined with joy when she talked about Louis’ beautiful smile and how it sometimes got him excused from doing dishes. As a mother, she was very proud of his protective spirit as he righteously stood up for people who could not defend themselves. She is sad knowing he won’t fulfill his dream of attending college. This candlelight vigil for Louis was held not only in remembrance of him as a loving young man that won’t ever be forgotten by those who knew him, but also as a visible sign to the community that there is a much needed outreach. Community resources such as counseling, tutoring and mentorship need to be made readily available and accessible for at risk youth, as well as for families dealing with needless tragedies from

World News Briefs Missionary arrested upon returning home Charlie Butts – OneNewsNow 3-20-09 A former Vietnam pastor has returned to his country and is under arrest in Ho Chi Minh City. Dr. Paul Ai Tran returned to his homeland to visit family but has been detained and can only travel within the city. Two police officers follow him 24 hours a day, according to Bruce Sonnenberg, founder of ‘He Intends Victory’ who called Ai at his hotel. “It’s still very interesting that they would take such a great and wonderful man and they are so afraid of what he would share, the hope of Jesus Christ, with so many people,” he notes. Sonnenberg adds that while living previously in Vietnam, Ai had great success in planting churches and spreading the gospel – but he paid a price. “And over the years he was imprisoned for preaching the gospel for a total of 12 years,” he points out. “And during those times he was tortured, his legs were broken, he was starved on numerous occasions, and was forced into labor.” The last time Ai was sentenced to nine years, but was thrown out of prison after a year-and-a-half because he had converted so many of the inmates. “In 1999, they actually forced him to move out of the country and move to Hampton, Virginia, where we started ‘Vietnamese Outreach International’” Sonnenberg says.
Sonnenberg is asking people to pray that Dr. Ai will soon be released and allowed to leave the country, and that he will be fairly treated. Copyright 2007 American Family News Network - Used by permission."

Courageous and Gracious Even on a Gurney – Phyllis Schlafly A Trouper! Press Release, Berkeley, CA, 2-25-09. Distributed by AGN-TCL Combined Newswire Service.: Berkeley, California-AGN-TCL Wire Release 2/27/09 Shocked Berkeley students and adults, Tuesday evening, February, 24, witnessed the legendary Phyllis Schlafly fall as she was leaving the stage after delivering a well received and motivating speech about “Conservatism vs. Feminism.” Through the pain of a fractured hip, the 84 year old Mrs. Schlafly was as courageous and gracious waiting for medical assistance as she has been throughout her 40 years as a political activist. Mrs. Schlafly is an icon of conservative values, possibly best known for her successful leadership defeating the controversial Equal Rights Amendment. Through the years, she has continued to inform and energize people to honor our Constitution and embrace the excellent values of our forefathers. During her ten years of fighting the ERA, she successfully united conservatives from all religions behind her, thus starting the pro-family, pro-life movement. Among the 150 who heard her well-delivered talk, were also students who disagreed with her conservative opinions. But even they asked their questions with courtesy and respect. Schlafly’s wise and witty answers often brought laughter and applause from the audience and caused the students to realize there are two sides to every issue, and each deserves to be heard and considered. Jiesi Zhao, President of the Berkeley College Republicans, who conducted the meeting and introduced Mrs. Schafly, stated “We were all very impressed. I think even the liberal students were. It was so refreshing having a different voice on campus... Very rarely do we ever get to hear a conservative voice. It was good to give especially the women on campus a different perspective.” There are few people able to maintain the schedule this attractive 84 year old woman has maintained throughout her life. Her positive, conservative perspective has been a role model to all women. Phyllis worked her own way through college, and had a night job of testing ammunition at a factory during the 2nd World War. She holds a degree in political science from Harvard and a law degree from Washington University in St. Louis. She married an attorney, raised six children, became actively involved in national politics, founded and is National President of Eagle Forum, is a syndicated columnist, author of 20 books, and writes the monthly Phyllis Schlafly Report and Education Reporter. The audience applauded throughout her message, appreciating statements such as “Feminists today have an identity crisis. They don’t have any happy role models.” She warned the students to not catch it - it’s like a disease. It is the way that you react to what is going on around you in life that is most important.” But possibly what had the most impact on those who attended, was watching the dignity and grace of Mrs. Schlafly, who, reacting to what was going on in her life at the moment - extreme pain - continued to reflect the strength and character she had just urged the students to embrace. With no crying, no tears, she waved good bye with her customary beautiful smile as she was taken away by the paramedics. (Update 3/15/09) Ms. Schlafly is recovering well. She was transferred to rehab, is able to walk with the use of her walker and was discharged on March 14th.Her son John had flown in to escort her on the flight back to her home and headquarters in St. Louis. The Truth of Global Warming
Are We Doomed For Man’s Inaction?
by Rev. Austin Miles AGN-TCL Wire Service--Guest Commentary (AGN-TCL News Wire-3/17/09) Oakley, California: The Bible makes it clear that we humans are to tend the garden as he instructed Adam and Eve. We must take care of the earth we occupy. Man has been so lax, so careless that we are now in danger of making the earth uninhabitable. It all started with the Industrial Revolution. When the first factories were built in Germany, they were built next to the pristine rivers so that waste from those factories could be dumped directly in those rivers, providing great convenience for the factory barons. What could they expect? Certainly not that the waters would remain pure and healthy. That was not their focus or even concern was bringing in a big profit as easily as possible. At one time in New York, the Hudson River was flowing with sturgeon. From that river, America shipped caviar to Russia! Today, the Hudson River is so filthy that even seasoned divers for the police department dread having to go into that cesspool to find a body. Fishing there is unthinkable. All because of man’s failure and neglect of tending the garden. Man’s primary interest is in making a profit no matter what or who must be destroyed in the process. And that often includes other people. At this time in history, if carbon emissions are not controlled, we will all be destroyed due to “global warming.” At least that is what the politically produced ads and TV spots want you to believe. The first true clue is in the TV ads. Question: Why should something so vital for human survival be produced with the style of a political ad? Answer: Because it is strictly a matter of politics, not
a matter of survival for the human race. A lot of money is behind it for a good reason. It is hard to forget the picture of Al Gore passionately speaking before Congress of the need to cap all emissions to prevent the greatest catastrophe of all time by unchecked global warming....while it was snowing heavily outside! The Arab Émigré’s had their first snow fall in history at about that same time. People were shivering all over the world. Even a recent demonstration of solar energy had to be cancelled because there were four inches of snow on the solar panels. How did Al Gore become the spokesman for this political project? Is this truly a concern from his heart, or were there other... considerations?. Why did Al Gore win an Academy Award for his documentary titled, “An Inconvenient Truth,” and even the special music written for it, since the documentary, by production standards, was only so-so and the music terrible? Indeed, it stinketh! What influenced (persuaded) the Academy to give them such prestigious film awards? It certainly was not the artistry or even legitimate knowledge proclaimed in the documentary. Like some Nobel prizes, this is questionable. Many ideas and concerns have been expressed with theories as to why this is being so vigorously championed and pushed. More Americans than at any time believe that the seriousness of “globalwarming” is being exaggerated, according to a new Gallup Poll released 3/13/09. These polls show that support for Gore’s ‘cause’ has fallen from 61 percent in March of last year to 53 percent this year as people wise up. Many of the world’s
most respected scientists have denounced Gore’s claims. Even the UK, that normally backs the hysteria, had some telling comments on the BBC News Science & Environment section by scientists (3/13/09). One of those by Dr. T.T.Gough of Ballendalloch, Scotland, stated simply that the whole global warming idea is, “dangerous nonsense.” Another one backing the flack, Peter Scargill of Wark-on-Tyne, gave this chilling statement: “Of course as long as we keep producing babies as if our planet has endless resources, we’ll never truly solve this problem.” Gulp! Abortion is the answer? A respondent to that, Thomas Goodey of Cuxton-upon-Medway wrote: “I am simply not prepared to close down half of industrial civilization and eliminate half of the population on this planet to gratify these alarmist fantasies.” The most telling response came from Norman G. Smith of Chilliwack, Canada: “This is to scare people and keep the grant money flowing.” Then he goes further by stating, “NASA says the sun is suddenly losing power and it is already 13 degrees cooler. That’s a fact --not theory.” However, the one who comes the closest to revealing the heart of this aggressive move (to “stop global warming”) is Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH), who, according to the New York Times (3/11/09), referred to climate legislation as “a national sales tax on energy.” This is the key and here is the reason behind this effort. (Fasten your seat belts!) The United Nations has tried to devise a way to impose a global tax since its inception. They have tried other schemes that failed. But this one is the ultimate...
to show that the entire world is at stake and will blow up, burning us all alive if we don’t stop it. So the tax they have in mind (that will go to them) will prevent this catastrophe. That tax, a world tax, will make the leaders of that organization unspeakably wealthy...and THAT’S the name of the game. That’s why they hired Al Gore to give it some muscle and influenced the film industry to award his meager documentary and even its dreadful music score to make it appear to the public that this cause is ‘genuine.’ It is not. Yes, we must be conscious of our use of this planet...we must be wise, like the Indians who, whenever they cut down a tree, planted another one in its place. They nurtured the land. Indeed, had the Indians remained in charge, we would not have environmental problems. However, Indians or no Indians, “global warming” would never be a threat. This ruse is a well calculated financially based hoax. Rev. Austin Miles, a Pastor/Chaplain working in Northern California is an award winning writer and free-lance journalist whose stories and essays have been published throughout the world. Listed in the International Who’s Who Historical Society, he is the author of five books. He has been on numerous television programs including Larry King Live, has been spotlighted in People magazine and is currently working on a screen play. Let’s Look At The History Let’s Look At The History - Part III Our historical timeline continues from last month. Here we go… World War I - During World War I (1914-1918), the Ottoman Empire joined Germany and Austria-Hungary against the Allies. An Ottoman military government ruled Palestine. The war was hard on both Jewish and Arab populations, owing to outbreaks of cholera and typhus. However, it was more difficult for the Jews. For a time, the Turkish military governor ordered internment and deportation of all foreign nationals. A large number of Jews were Russian nationals. They had been able to enter Palestine as Russian nationals because of the concessions Turkey had granted to Russian citizens, and they had used this method to overcome restrictions on immigration. They had also maintained Russian citizenship to avoid being drafted into the Turkish army. Therefore, a large number of Jews were forced to flee Palestine during the war. Britain and France planned to divide the Ottoman holdings in the Middle East among themselves after the war. The Sykes-Picot Agreement of 1916 called for part of Palestine to be under British rule, part to be placed under a joint Allied government, and for Syria and Lebanon to be given to France. However, Britain also offered to back Arab demands for postwar independence from the Ottomans in return for Arab support for the Allies and seems to have promised the same territories to the Arabs.
In 1916, Arabs led by T.E. Lawrence and backed by Sharif Husayn revolted against the Ottomans in the belief that Britain would help establish Arab independence in the Middle East. Lawrence’s exploits and their importance in the war against Turkey were somewhat exaggerated by himself and by the enterprising publicist Lowell Thomas. The United States and other countries pressed for Arab self-determination. The Arabs, and many in the British government including Lawrence, believed that the Arabs had been short-changed by the British promise to give Syria to the French, and likewise by the promise of Palestine as a Jewish homeland. The Arabs claimed that Palestine was included in the area promised to them, but the British denied this. In November 1917, before Britain had conquered Jerusalem and the area to be known as Palestine, Britain issued the Balfour Declaration. The declaration was a letter addressed to Lord Rothschild, based on a request of the Zionist organization in Great Britain. The declaration stated Britain’s support for the creation of a Jewish national home in Palestine, without violating the civil and religious rights of the existing non-Jewish communities. The declaration was the result of lobbying by the small British Zionist movement, especially by Dr. Chaim Weizmann.
In 1920, Britain received a provisional mandate over Palestine, which would extend west and east of the River Jordan. The area of the mandate given to Britain at the San Remo conference was much larger than historic Palestine as envisaged by the Zionists, who had sought an eastern border to the West of Amman. The mandate, based on the Balfour Declaration, was formalized in 1922. The British were to help the Jews build a national home and promote the creation of self-governing institutions. The British hoped to establish selfgoverning institutions in Palestine, as required by the mandate. The Jews were alarmed by the prospect of such institutions, which would have an Arab majority. However, the Arabs would not accept proposals for such institutions if they included any Jews at all, and so no institutions were created. The Arabs wanted as little as possible to do with the Jews and the mandate, and would not participate in municipal councils, nor even in the Arab agency that the British wanted to set up. Ormsby-Gore, under Secretary of State for the colonies concluded, “Palestine is largely inhabited by unreasonable people.” Arab Riots and Jewish immigration In the spring of 1920 and 1921 and the summer of 1929, Arab nationalists opposed to the Balfour Declaration, the mandate and the Jewish National Home,
Saed & Linda Awwad instigated riots and pogroms against Jews in Jerusalem, Hebron, Jaffa and Haifa. The violence led to the formation of the Haganah Jewish self-defense organization in 1920. The riots of 1920 and 1921 reflected opposition to the Balfour Declaration and fears that the Arabs of Palestine would be disposessed. They were probably attempts to show the British that Palestine as a Jewish National home would be ungovernable. In 1936, widespread rioting, later known as the Arab Revolt or Great Uprising, broke out. The revolt was kindled when British forces killed Izz al din El Qassam in a gun battle. Izz al Din El Qassam was a Syrian preacher who had emigrated to Palestine and was agitating against the British and the Jews. The revolt was coopted by the Husseini family and by Fawzi El Kaukji, a former Turkish officer, and it was possibly financed in part by Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy. Thousands of Arabs and hundreds of Jews were killed in the revolt, which spread rapidly owing to initial unpreparedness of the British authorities. About half the 5,000 residents of the Jewish quarter of the old city of Jerusalem were forced to flee, and the remnant of the Hebron Jewish community was evacuated as well.

MISSIONS CORNER
NEW LOCATION!!! EASTER EGGSTRAVAGANZA FREEDOM HIGH SCHOOL IN OAKLEY 1050 Neroly - SATURDAY APRIL 11TH GATES OPEN 9:30AM
by Pastor Julie Jackson Do you know that the “mission field” can be as close as your own backyard? I’m sure you’d agree that’s as close to home as you can get. Sounds somewhat ludicrous, but I assure you that we have a whole mission field awaiting us, just over the other side of our backyard fences! Every day as I open my window blinds overlooking my backyard I see a myriad of fence lines encompassing all my neighbor’s “American dream” homes. Have you ever wondered if your neighbors are “born again”, knowing Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior? Often times we are so caught up in our own lives, envisioning “missions” on faraway lands, that we miss out on the opportunity that lies just a few yards away from our home. We don’t have to travel 6,000
Close Encounters – “Backyard Missions” miles away to find people that don’t know Jesus Christ. We can find them in adjacent homes and our neighbors down the street. When a person does not know Jesus, it is irrelevant whether they live on the African continent, in Ireland or in the United States. Their cast, nobility or financial standing has no bearing on spending eternity in heaven. Their V.I.P. status on earth does not affect their destination once they die. All the accolades on earth, all the adoration of peers and all the red carpet treatment will not
open the gates of heaven if a person has not repented of his sins and asked Jesus Christ into his heart as his Lord and Savior. Romans 10:9 “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God ~ Pastor Julie Jackson raised him from the dead, you will be saved”. Many years ago I had a dear friend who seemingly “had it all”. This person was the President of a well known world-wide organization, possessed great financial wealth, as well as the ability to fulfill every earthly desire. People clamored for position to be mentored by this person. Being a “mentee” provided status and the hope of one day also being able to satisfy their own selfish earthly desires. Life on the surface was seemingly good, very good. However, one night at 2:20 AM I received a call that my friend had died unexpectedly in the prime of life having just turned 40 years old. My greatest regret was not that I had lost a dear friend, although I was deeply grieved, but was that for all my “witnessing with goodness, kindness and grace,” my friend had to my knowledge never accepted Jesus Christ. All the treasures built up on

Freedom Recovery Ministry “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1 by Andrew Pate The first time that I heard the term stronghold, I had a hard time relating it to myself. I didn’t understand what a stronghold was. I thought it was a complex term which mature Christians used when talking about spiritual warfare. I couldn’t have been any further from the truth, and I found that a stronghold was a very basic term. Simply put, a stronghold is a thought process that has gotten off track from the will of God. For example, you might have been a very easy going person and now find that you are always angry. A stronghold does not start out as full-blown rage; it always grows from a much smaller problem. It could be, at one point you were offended by someone. For whatever reason, instead of dealing with that offense you suppressed it. Since the emotion was not dealt with properly, it started to appear in other areas of your life. You start getting irritated easier, and you start snapping more at friends and loved ones. Finally, you stay in a constant state of rage and you are convinced that everyone is out to get you. While this is a simple example, it shows how easy a small thing can turn into a large problem. Freedom Ministry was developed to help break these types of strongholds. Through biblical instructions and illustrations, we first identify the main issue and then attack the core root of the problem. We then apply the Word of God and practical applications to break strongholds, and once again align our thought process up with the will of God. Freedom Recovery Ministry is held every Friday at Mountain View Christian Center. It starts at 6:30 PM in room 16 (Located next to the back parking lot) at 5000 Amaryllis St. in Oakley. Through the instruction of the Word of God, we are offering the following services: counseling and edification, overcoming strongholds, men and women support groups, and biblical instruction for living and walking triumphantly in Christ. earth were now of no value, nor could they secure eternity in heaven. Many times it takes a personal crisis or loss for people to understand that this life is just temporal and that the only important thing is where we, our families and others will spend eternity. God loves each of us equally and it is His desire to see all of us saved. We are to love others as commanded by Jesus in John 13:34; “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another”. Love is what leads us to pray for our neighbors, to reach out to them with the love and gospel of Jesus Christ. Fences may be boundary lines in the natural, but there is no “back yard fence” that can stop our prayers. Prayer is spiritual in nature and therefore no earthly obstacle can stop our prayers. Ask God to direct you in your prayers for your neighbors, for opportunities to show them the love of Christ and to share the gospel with them. Make a decision that every time you open your window shades you will pray for all your neighbors with a heart of compassion, the heart of our loving Heavenly Father who desires for each of us to spend eternity with Him. You don’t need to travel abroad; your mission field can be as close as the other side of your fence!

FREEDOM REIGNS FOR MEN OF VISION Pastor Tyrone shares his incredible testimony “God has a good plan for me and for you” Oakley, CA 3-16-09 Men came from all over Contra Costa County and beyond as they gathered at the ‘Men of Vision’ monthly meeting that is exploding out of Oakley. After feasting on hot links, potato salad and burgers they praised the Lord in song. Worship leader Sammy Johnson, closed the set with ‘Heart of Worship’ and then silence came over the sanctuary for a time. Men were looking around at each other wondering what was happening. Why this silence? Suddenly, music started to play in the background that seemed to get louder and louder, but no one came to the platform as men were still wondering what was to happen next? The song was ‘He’s All I Need.’ Less than five people there had ever heard the song before, but everyone there recognized the voice behind the song. It was Pastor Tyrone Holmes. The song kept playing, but still no one came to address the men on the platform. All at once, there was a crashing sound and a door broke open from the back and two men dressed in orange prison jumpsuits and handcuffs walked down the aisles followed by an armed guard shouting commands. They were led to the platform and Pastor Tyrone (in an orange suit) began to share his riveting testimony. “I’m not here to talk about my crazy past and lifestyle. I’m here to lift up the name of Christ and tell you all of the wonderful things that He has done in my life,” he said. “I spent twenty years in prison for a crime I never committed; but in 1981God’s hand was on me and touched me and called me into ministry

in prison. God told me there that he had a plan for me, and that His plans were good just as it says in Jeremiah 29:11.” Pastor Tyrone – In his own words “Being a black prison inmate I could not hug a white man in prison. These weren’t the prison rules, they were the inmate rules. In Chapel we would hug each other, but when we walked out of Chapel we had to play this game like we didn’t know each other. We decided no more game playin’. If we’re livin’ for Jesus, we’re gonna live for Jesus! So we’re gonna walk this walk whether we live or die! God began to do a mighty work in all of our lives. Many men were getting saved through the Lord’s power working in us. At the chow halls we would sit together and the prison guards got extremely nervous as they expected a big riot to break out. We didn’t do it because we thought we were tough. When you’re born again something happens to you. You don’t walk like the world; you become a different person.” The testimony Pastor Tyrone shared continued to get more personal, exposing the heart and soul of this mighty man of God. At one point he got a little choked up, “I’m not a man that cries easy. I’m not a whiner” he exclaimed, “but when I talk about prison, it brings back some painful things. I know what God did for me and I know how far He brought me! And that’s what He’s gonna do for you!” Tears were streaming down the faces of half the men in the sanctuary. “There is no way that I deserve to be a Pastor, but when God said

he had a plan… He had a plan for me, and His plan is always good.” “If I wouldn’t have given my life to Jesus in prison, I would have gone another way. I had people pulling on me to ride with them. And I could ride! Believe me; I’m not gonna talk about it, but I could ride! But I’m ridin’ with Jesus now! I just want to encourage you guys that no matter what you are faced with, don’t let the despair get to you, because God has a plan and purpose for your life. You may not see it now, like I didn’t see it, but I’m tasting the fruit right now. I was to serve a life sentence… Life! But God set me free in the name of Jesus. With all humility, I’m not supposed to be here, but God said, I’m gonna take an old school gangster on the street that was a hoodlum and put him in a ministry where he can pastor. Ain’t that something? Praise the Lord!” The ‘Men of Vision’ director, Pastor Keoni Clifford, brought a close to the meeting with a strong word. “I want to thank you all for coming tonight. We have good food and fellowship here, but the reality is… if you’re coming for the food and the skits and messages, but you’re not
living it, honestly, it’s all for nothing. We have to be the men of God in our homes first. Make your home strong and pray with your spouse and spend time with your children. Every morning, stretch out your hands over them and cover them in prayer.” An altar call was given for men to come forth that may be struggling with anger, addiction, work, unforgiveness and a host of other problems that can affect men from all walks of life. “We all have our issues and we just want to be real with each other,” said Pastor Keoni. Forty men came forward and God’s healing and forgiveness was clearly evident as strongholds were broken. Yes, just as Pastor Tyrone shared, God is good – All the time.

HANOUM ESTATE BRINGING A ‘TOUCH OF CLASS’ TO EAST COUNTY FRONT PAGE NEWS FOR OAKLEY RESIDENTS Staff Report Oakley, CA A recent City Council meeting in Oakley drew a great deal of attention as plans for the ‘Hanoum Estate’ were brought forth in converting the Mansion and the beautiful 5-acre landscaped site at 4790 Knarlwood Rd. into a venue equipped for weddings, corporate events and a retreat for pastors seeking refuge. The Estate is like none you have ever seen in East County. It boasts a tennis court, billiards room, library, two large ponds with fountians, paddle boats, outdoor barbeque kitchen, a gigantic swimming pool and spa with waterfalls, gazebos, playground for children, running water creeks and a parking lot that will hold 77 vehicles. Mountain View Christian Center proposed that the venue would boost Oakley’s image and be a destination for many world travelers looking for an elegant country retreat. But several neighbors were in opposition to the plans that the
Hanoum Estate corporate directors had envisioned. The close residents said they were worried about the increased traffic and party atmosphere in a quiet residential neighborhood. Director of the Hanoum Estate, Bryan Donally expressed his passion to minister to people at the estate and also to be respectful of the neighbors and their concerns. After all was said and done, there were a few restrictions put in place for the venue to open their doors. But the Council members agreed that this facility would be good for the City of Oakley and its residents as a destination location adding a touch of class and beauty to East County.
The Hanoum Estate’s landscaping is like no other in East County. A perfect place for the wedding you’ve always dreamed of.

FAMILIES ON FIRE Continued from March… by Andrew Pate He was about to respond to that last comment when he saw a single tear run down her cheek. The anger subsided and he decided that maybe he should hear what she has to say. He looked at her and said, “I can’t say I’m excited about your sister knowing our business, and it seems to me that there are more productive ways to spend your days than watching these shows that put crazy ideas in your head. But go ahead, tell me what has you so worked up.” She offered a weak smile, “The things that you say hurt me so bad, but the way that I react is just as horrible. Please forgive me for treating you so unloving. I will try to treat you with the respect that you deserve.” He had no idea what to say. She seemed sincere, but this sounded like a trick. What was her angle? After pausing a moment, he responded, “Of course I forgive you, you know I love you.” He offered a weak smile hoping the uncomfortable conversation was behind them. He had just started to cut into his steak when she dropped the bomb. She mustered up her courage and said, “Would you watch the series with me?” He looked startled, “Me? You want me to watch a preacher I don’t know tell me everything I’m doing wrong in our marriage?” “It’s not like that,” she said, “He isn’t brow beating, he is simply giving the facts
of what God says about how we are supposed to honor each other. I know it’s not what you want to do, but maybe you could sacrifice one of your nights out so that we could do something to make this marriage work. If you haven’t noticed we barely speak unless it has to do with something about business or if we are criticizing each other.” She looked at him with a mixture of desperation and sadness, “I want us back, and was hoping you would want that too.” The heat that was beginning to rise was extinguished by the sincerity in her voice. They had this conversation before, but it was usually accompanied by her telling him what she really thought of how
bad a husband he was becoming. It took him off-guard, but he could hear the respect in her voice. “If I agree to watch an episode with you can we get back to enjoying our dinner?” She smiled and nodded yes, and she couldn’t believe what had just happened. Had she really had it so wrong over the last few years? All the fighting and complaining only created more aggravation, but applying one example of how to honor in the way that God had intended us to honor each other resulted in something wonderful. They didn’t say much during the rest of the meal, but that was ok with her. She knew that it wouldn’t be easy, but their marriage was worth every uncomfortable minute spent in introspection, in order to bring life and restoration into their relationship.
Pastor Joe & Shelby Seeley

To Our Friends, Our Customers, and Our Community, The gloves are off. We have listened to the media and the politicians spin their story to paint our company, Ford, in a negative light. Now it is time for one of the largest employers, largest tax generators and one of the most involved companies in our community to make sure you are getting the facts straight. We are tired of allowing these biased parties the right to send out a message based on misleading and sometimes untrue facts without a proper response. This is not a mass produced marketing campaign given to us by the manufacturer. It is from our family to yours and we sincerely appreciate your taking the time to read it. We offer at least one vehicle for every single market class available regarding automobile purchases. If you listened to the media, you would think our cars ran on coal and were undesirable. That is simply not true. Ford has some of the best products in the market as you will see. We have been rated by the top third-party research firms as a leader in reliability, customer satisfaction, price, design, safety and, yes, fuel economy. We do not win top honors in every category because it is impossible; there are simply too many competitors and we compete in too many classes. But we have made it to the top of the list in several categories and Ford, Lincoln and Mercury are rated better than average by JD Power and Associates. Ford vehicle quality has improved at five times the average for all manufacturers. We have also won several top honors including the number ONE vehicle line sold in this country, the F-Series pick-up. Yes, Ford sells more F-Series than any other model by any other manufacturer inclucing Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Chevrolet and Dodge. In fact, Ford sold 79,000 more F-Series units than the Toyota Camry and 50,000 more units than the Chevy Silverado. Ford took home an unprecedented FIVE Initial Quality Awards by JD Power Associates in 2007, more than any other manufacturer. We ARE a great American Company. In the 1980’s and 1990’s the Asian manufacturers took our customers and delivered products that were superior. But that was then and this is now. Ford stands behind their products and their impressive vehicle warranties. Our family is confident that Ford will not only be here for our next generation but will be stronger than ever. All we ask of this community is that you give us a look. We think you will be impressed with the strides we have made. We also offer the best service, parts, and 24-hour towing anywhere in the East County. We are not asking you to be our customer because we are local. We are asking you to give us a look because no other dealership in the area does more and cares more about you and your family. The next time you are in the market for a new or used vehicle, stop by our dealership first; you WILL have a good comparison. And if you are looking for a Ford in East County, our prices are competitive and we take care of our own. Thank you for all the years of support and please enjoy the information.

My Prayer to People at Mountain View Christian Center
Psalm 33:1,2 Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. Praise the LORD with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. I pray to you Lord that when we worship you Lord, everyone in Elementary and even in Jr/Sr High, we would not be ashamed of you or embarrassed Lord. That we would just sing to you Lord Jesus and lift our hands to you for we love you Lord. Forgive the people who don’t sing or lift their hands to you, for they don’t mean what they are doing. In your name Father God, Amen.
My Prayer for People to be Saved and have Eternal Life
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. King Lord Jesus, I pray to you that people will have you as their Savior and will not perish. That they will have you as their savior. Most importantly they won’t perish in HELL, they will be with you forever!
My Prayer to Everyone
Psalm 33:5 The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love. Dear Lord Jesus, everyone in the world who does not love you Lord, bring them to you Lord, help them come to know you. But those people who do love you, their love will never fail. Our love will never fail Lord!
My Prayer for People to Come to Church
Psalm 42:8 By day the LORD directs his love, at night his song is with me— a prayer to the God of my life. I pray Lord that people would come to church, and learn about you Lord. So
when young children grow up they maybe could be a Pastor or even a missionary! For I know you will guide them in your life. Amen
My Prayer for My Classmates
Hebrews 13:5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Father God, I pray to you Lord, that all of my classmates in 6th grade would have great careers and still have you to count on, I pray Lord that they won’t go and have a bad reputation and most importantly that they would teach the word of God, at a time of their lives!!! In your name, Amen.

Women of Worth
by Gina Dacus As I approached Mountain View Christian Center for another Woman of Worth evening, I noticed that the parking lot was full. Now a year going strong, a Monday night at Women of Worth has become a true place for fellowship, worship and the word. As I stood in line to enter the sanctuary, I met a woman named Lisandra Zaste who said, “I tell my family, when those doors close, it’s me time”. Women of Worth evenings are designed to truly minister to the needs of women; tonight was no different. Following the food, fellowship, giveaways and worship, Pastor Kim ministered to the women. She shared the familiar story about Abraham preparing to sacrifice his son Isaac. Pastor Kim challenged the women to evaluate what they carried and prioritized in their lives. Sometimes the things deemed as precious can affect the ability to act in obedience. Just as Abraham was called to sacrifice his promise, we can expect God to call on us. At that time, our response of obedience and faith will be required.
Pastor Kim reminded the women that Isaac was a promise to Abraham. In turn, Abraham called his process of sacrificing worship. She shared that Abraham proved he was willing to sacrifice the most precious thing that he had. Pastor Kim then challenged the women to think about things that they could be called to sacrifice: a husband away from the Lord, children, parents, health issues, or a job. As she spoke, I conducted my own spiritual inventory and realized that my turn could come at any moment. Would I be ready? Would I be willing to prepare a sacrificial altar if God called me to do so? Who or what would be my sacrifice? As I pondered the questions, God started to minister to me. Following the sermon, Pastor Kim
Author Gina Dacus challenged the women to surrender their issues and circumstances to the altar. Even in that short time, God showed me my precious areas and I approached the altar with an Women of Worth Abraham spirit. As I wept, I could Pastor Kim Moreno and Shelby Seeley imagine Abraham preparing to sacrifice his son. I took items from my fight against obeying the instructions spiritual inventory and began to presof the Lord. At the place of his sacrient them before the Lord one by one. I exchanged my tears for a Hallelujah. fice, Abraham called it Jehovah Jireh – the mountain of the Lord will be As a reward for giving up control and surrendering, the Lord created a peace provided. Restaurants & Entertainment America’s Good News
THE SHEPHERD’S KITCHEN
A FEAST OF DELICIOUS FOOD FOR EAST COUNTY AND THE WORLD - Matthew 4:4 Staff Report The Shepherd’s Kitchen is a jewel in the heart of Brentwood. The restaurant offers clientele a truly unique experience in fine dining with the best in Mediterranean food. The Shepherd’s Kitchen is a classy establishment, but it boasts a menu that will fit any budget in today’s economy. They also have a list of sandwiches and food-to-go at down-to-earth prices for those that are in a hurry and want to grab a quick meal. The Shepherd’s Kitchen owner, Saed Awwad, was raised in Palestine. He then came to America in 1990 seeking freedom from oppression. After years of disappointment and depression from a wayward lifestyle, Saed accepted Christ as his savior late one night in 1994 and has been serving the Lord faithfully ever since that day. “This restaurant is a means to support the kingdom work of ‘Echo of Christ Ministries,’ and the kids who attend the summer camp in Taybeh,” said Saed Awwad. Every year Saed and his wife Linda, pack up their suitcases, their two children and head for Israel and Palestine to minister to the children of Arab and Jewish decent. At the camp they seek to bring reconciliation to the children and a land torn by war and hate. They are trying to change this never ending cycle of destruction that has
existed for thousands of years by reaching kids with the love of Christ. Saed and Linda hope to create a future for these children filled with love and hope. “We always love to have guests over to our house, so this restaurant is like an extension of us. God works with our personalities and who we are. He knew that we liked to often play host to friends and family,” said Linda Awwad. She also noted, “The real motive behind the restaurant is that we would like to feed people physically and spiritually. There are so many people that won’t go into a church but they will come into a restaurant. Saed added, “God has gifted me and my wife Linda in evangelizing and we want this to be a refuge and a safe place for people that are hurting. We’re not here to preach to you. Granted this is a Christian-themed restaurant, as you will see Bible scriptures on the wall (Psalm 23) and on all of the dinnerware. But we would never try to force our beliefs on anyone. We want to make it clear that this is a community restaurant and everyone is welcome here. We will share with you or pray for you only if it is your heart’s desire. Yesterday a man came in from Discovery Bay and said that he just wanted
to have ‘one last good meal out’ and we probably wouldn’t see him for a long time because of the fact that he was going in for knee replacement surgery. I told him that I was a minister and I believe that God can heal him. Our Lord is the same yesterday, today and forever. I prayed that if it there wasn’t a miraculous healing that God would guide the physician’s hands and Upper left - Owners, Saed & Linda expedite the recovery process. Almost Awwad. Reflexione obediencia requiere no sacrificio, desobediencia requiere sacrificio. “Somos justificados for la fe.” ROMANOS 5:1. SALMO 55:22

“WOMAN TO WOMAN” ALL OF CREATION IS HAVING BIRTH PAINS! by Susan Holmes One thing that every woman who has ever given birth to a child has in common is birth pains. We love to tell our stories of the birth of our children over and over again. Our stories may vary in detail whether we gave birth naturally, had an epidural, C-section or even if we adopted our child. We all know what it means to have birth pains. The process of bringing forth new life comes with many painful changes, like morning sickness, emotional mood swings, stretch marks, leg cramps, weight gain, practice contractions, the list goes on and on. We, as a soon to be parent, know that this process is necessary to reap the harvest of holding our newborn baby in our arms. Two things that all births have in common is pain in one form or another and joy after the birth process has been completed. “Sorrow and weeping may last for a night, but joy comes in the morning” Psalm 30:5b. The reward and joy of enduring the travail of birth is enjoying God’s new creation that you hold in your arms. The birth of a new relationship has also taken place, one that can never be replaced. Parent with child and child with parent, the instant bond of this new relationship is awesome to witness! Even as an adoptive parent, the bond between my daughter and myself was instant. The pain and joy of a new creation is one that God and all of His creation understand full well. I invite you to read all of Romans Chapter 8 to fully grasp this truth. In verses 19-23 it says, “For creation waits expectantly and longs earnestly for God’s sons to be made known. For the creation was subjected to frailty, not because of some intentional fault on its part, but by the will of Him who subjected it, yet with hope that nature (creation) itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and corruption into the glorious freedom of God’s children. We know that the whole creation has been moaning together in the pains of labor until now. Not only the creation, but we ourselves too, who have and enjoy the first fruits of the Holy Spirit groan inwardly as we wait for the redemption of our bodies, as God’s adopted sons.” Jesus said in both Matthew 24:4-14 and Mark 13:1-10 (paraphrased) “In the last days nation will rise up against nation and kingdom against kingdom. There will be wars and rumors of war. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines and calamities, but all this is but the beginning of the intolerable anguish and suffering (the early pains) of the birth pangs that must take place before the end of this age and the return of our Lord Jesus Christ”. Revelation 20:1 says (paraphrased) “Then there will be a new heaven and a new earth, the former earth had passed away”. 1Thessalonians Chapters 4 & 5 (please read it) talks about Jesus coming from Heaven to earth with the blast of the trumpet of God and we (who believe in Jesus) will be caught up together with Him in the air. Some call this the rapture which simply means “caught up”. Chapter 5:3 says, “When people are saying, All is well and secure, and there is peace and safety, then in a moment unforeseen destruction will come upon them as suddenly as labor pains come upon a woman with child; and they shall by no means escape, for there will be no escape.” A woman with child is going to give birth to that baby, one way or another: new life will complete the birth process. There is a lot of talk about our environment regarding global warming and the effects that this is causing on planet earth. In Matthew 24:29-42 (paraphrased) Jesus said that the sun will be darkened, the moon will not shed its light, the stars will fall from the sky and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky; he will gather His elect from one end of the universe to the other and the sky and earth will pass away, but His words will not pass away. Just like in the days of Noah, God warned the people of what was going to take place before the flood, God is making us aware of the fact that our earth is going through birth pains. No one knows the exact day or hour that Jesus will return to earth and this process will be complete, but Jesus says in verses 42 -44 (paraphrased) that we are to watch and be ready for the day that He will come. We must live our lives in a constant state of readiness. Jesus said that the Good News of His Gospel must be preached to all nations, kingdoms and people. My friends, the Good News is that God loves you so much that Jesus paid for you to have a one way ticket to Heaven. The price has been paid by Jesus on the cross. All you have to do is ask and receive salvation and you will then be a new creation born of the Spirit into a new parent – child relationship with God! Jesus says in Revelation 22:20, “He who gives this warning and affirms and testifies to these things says, Yes (it is true). (Surely) I am coming quickly (swiftly, speedily). Amen (so let it be)! Yes, come, Lord Jesus!

John 1:1-5 The Word Became Flesh In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

Senior Moments Christians Unite for the Environment
Financial Forum “Calling Part II”
by Priscilla Stanley
What is happening to our environment? Everyone is asking what can be done. What products are safe and what is not. I myself have thought about it and wondered what I can do to help. I realize we need to do something with our waste. I believe we also need to be concerned with the chemical products we use. My reasoning is not just for the environment, but also our health. Products that are natural have always been better for us over any chemical product. I remember when we made our cleaning products from household items knowing they did the job and were safe. The modern age came into existence and chemical products became a household name. Yes, green is good. I’m all for it. A Michelle A. Vu article in the Christian Post states that even though it may seem like everyone believes in global warming and the impending catastrophe it will bring, a group of conservative Christians has countered that message by launching a national campaign to gather one million signatures for a statement that says Christians must not believe all the hype about global warming. The group currently has nearly 100 signers, is backed by prominent Christians including Tony Perkins of Family Research Council, Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family, radio host Janet Parshall, and U.S. Senator James Inhofe of Oklahoma. What supporters of the statement seek is to inform Christians about the biblical perspective on the environment and the poor, and to encourage them to look at the evidence, which they say does not support the devastating degree of climate change claimed by mainstream society. Technology puts the creation to man’s use, but unnecessary waste and pollution degrades it and spoils the creation’s ability to give glory to its Creator. I think it is helpful to realize that we are to exercise dominion over nature; not as though we are entitled to exploit it, but as something borrowed or held in trust. God told Adam and Eve to cultivate and keep the garden, Genesis 2:15. We may certainly use nature for our benefit, but we may only use it as God intends. An effective steward understands that which he oversees, and science can help us discover the intricacies of nature. It isn’t as though we think that the earth is here to be abused. It is not. It is God’s creation and we have a responsibility to care for it and to do all that we can to help it be the place that God wants it to be.” Being asked how I felt about the environment made me think about the ozone layer. There is so much talk about it that I researched it. I found the definition is a form of oxygen that consists of three atoms of oxygen, in contrast to normal atmospheric oxygen which consists of two atoms. In the upper atmosphere, it absorbs ultraviolet rays, thereby preventing them from reaching the surface of the earth. We know that the ozone is both beneficial and harmful to us. Near the ground, ozone forming as a result of chemical reactions involving traffic pollution and sunlight may cause a number of respiratory problems, particularly for young children and senior citizens. Higher up in the atmosphere known as the stratosphere, ozone filters out incoming radiation from the sun. I want to do what I can to preserve the ozone layer, but my thinking makes me wonder if there is more to it. God created the heavens and earth for us to enjoy. He is in control and there is always a purpose. We, as humans have free will; but no matter what, when we get out of control He steps in. I don’t believe God would allow us to destroy the ozone, but I realize it is thinning out. Why is this happening? The Bible tells us when Jesus comes to earth the heavens will open up. Maybe the heavens are separated by the ozone. There are many who believe we are in end times as our world economy has collapsed and we are headed to a one world government. As Christians we are aware of the book of Revelations which talks about end time. Could the thinning of the ozone be a sign of the return of Jesus and the rapture? The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven. He replied, “When evening comes, you say, “It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,” and in the morning, “Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.” You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a miraculous sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” Jesus then left them and went away. Mathew 16:1-4 Are we in these times, always looking for the glass to shatter?

By Donald Kwong This is Part II of a two part examination of God’s calling. Part I was a general discussion on calling, while Part II examines what the calling may look like in a Kingdom business. As Dennis Peacocke reminds, God doesn’t want you to invite him into your business; he wants to get you into his business. There are too many business owners who do not realize that they are simply stewards of their businesses. They should consider that they are the junior partners in the business, and that the business really belongs to God. God calls all believers priesthood, and I know of businesspeople around the world that are discovering that they are ministers of the Gospel. Their businesses are ministries, and God is calling them into his business plan. Christian businesses have chosen various ways to respond to the call of God on their lives: Tentmakers – using one’s trade to support ministry opportunities for oneself or others. For instance, I have a friend from Minnesota who works his corporate position so he can finance an annual mission trip to Vietnam. He is happy to work at this multinational firm as he is often doing business close to Southeast Asia, and can check in with the local Vietnamese church. Great Commission Companies – These firms are set up with unreached people groups, oftentimes running the business ethically in an area where business is typically unethical. A lady I used to go to church with has established small businesses among the Dao people of Yunnan, China. Her business contact with locals, enables her to share the Gospel with those she does business with. Marketplace Ministry – Businesses designed to promote evangelism and discipleship. In Antioch, CA, a men’s ministry “Call to Courage” operates out of KMC Builders, a fire restoration business. Monday evenings, school age young men to mature men gather and encourage one another. Kingdom Investing – Making investments in businesses for redemptive purposes. For instance, the investors in the local event center Hanoum Estates will make a modest return on their investment in exchange for creating a place of ministry for pastors around the world. Business as Missions – Deliberately using the business as a missions vehicle to extend the Gospel. In Brentwood, Reagan Management Services isn’t just highly regarded for their financial services to the community. Monthly, Ron and Pat Reagan host the Contra Costa Ministerial Conference where civic, business and pastoral leadership can meet and be encouraged. Growing into one’s calling isn’t always simple or easy. God calls us to be, or do not because we are able, but because he wants us to stretch and grow. The call isn’t a validation of who you already are. It is an effort to take you to the next level. I used to think that God’s call on my life was about utilizing the knowledge, skills and abilities I possessed, all the while, the call was about adding to my toolkit and leading me to become more like Christ. I could have gone to Jeremiah 29:11 about God’s plans for you. I’ll leave that to a future article. Instead, let’s read - “I will give them singleness of heart and action, so that they will always fear me for their own good and the good of their children after them.” – Jeremiah 32:39 I pray that as you journey through God’s call, you find understanding, insight, hidden treasure and the fear of the Lord which is the beginning of knowledge. If you’re in need of practical and godly counsel in the areas of budgeting, stewardship, debt management, and would like to meet me for biblically financial coaching, please contact me through America’s Good News. The service is free, but will require your time, dedication and honesty on your part. Any financial information provided will be kept confidential.

Teen Views Have you ever been in a conversation and said one thing choosing your words very wisely, and yet meaning something totally different yet not lying… just not telling the whole truth. Well, the true fact is all of us have done that! Some people more than others, but regardless, it is something that we all do. You can call it an easy let down or only giving them the information that they NEED to know. Some classic examples are the famous break-up line, “it’s not you, it’s me”! In some rare cases that line can be used for the true meaning of its context but mostly it’s like saying, “I’m trying to let you down easy so please don’t question me.” Another classic example would be the famous “I can’t…because blah blah blah blah.” You can fill in the blanks for different examples. When most people say stuff like that, they are basically saying, “I don’t want to.” Phrases like those mentioned are similar to things that we use everyday…basically to make what we really want to say sound better. Could you imagine saying what you really meant every time you are saying something different? People would probably be a lot more hateful and rude. People don’t want you to lie to them but at the same time they don’t want you to be completely blunt with them. When looking in the bible, the Lord says to love everyone and be courteous to everyone and then at the same time he says not to lie. This can make it really hard for people to find a balance in between honesty and compassion. The thing that most of us have to remember is to try and do both. It’s not going to be easy nor fun but sometimes in order to be honest you have to be a little brutal. Instead of being harsh about it try and be compassionate and show that you care at the same time. Trinity Christian School teacher Amber Urias, shares a bite to eat with Reverend Austin Miles in the lunch room fresh from a Dr. Seuss birthday party. Amber dressed as ‘The Cat in the Hat’ for a ‘Read Across America’ program which promotes literacy amongst children. Students documented the many pages they read as each page earned them a portion of miles. With the miles accredited to them, they were able to map out a course that would take them across America.
Churches Helping Churches Do you need more chairs for your church? Did your church just buy new chairs? Would your church like to bless another church with its used chairs? Does your church need a keyboard for worship? Did your church just buy a new keyboard? Churches always have a need for something, so why not work together to fill that need. America’s Good News would like to see churches partner with one another. So we are willing to create a FREE section in our paper that churches can use in order to bless each other as the need arises. Amen! No items in this section shall be for sale. Our desire is to see churches give to one another out of Love. The Fellowship of the Believers Acts 2:44-47(NIV) All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. We are one body, right? John 17:23 (NIV) I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
Genesis 1:12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. Deuteronomy 20:19 When you lay siege to a city for a long time, fighting against it to capture it, do not destroy its trees by putting an ax to them, because you can eat their fruit. Do not cut them down. Deuteronomy 20:20 However, you may cut down trees that you know are not fruit trees and use them to build siege works until the city at war with you falls.
