ACTORS presents ‘Messiah on the Frigidaire’ ‘Messiah on the Frigidaire’ is a sweet Southern comedy coming to ACTORS this winter. Messiah tells the story of Lou Ann Hightower, a discontented woman in her thirties who is searching for greater meaning in her trailer-park life. Each night, when the street lights kick on, the Lord appears on Lou Ann’s refrigerator, which sits on her porch simply because it won’t fit through the door. Lou Ann wonders if it is a sign while her husband sees only dollar signs. The cast of talented newcomers and familiar faces are working hard to bring this story to life. Director Emily Griffin emphasizes the sincerity of each character to enhance the comedy of the story. Lou Ann, played by Melissa Krepfle, is really struggling with life at the beginning of the play. Everything in her world annoys her. Her husband Dwayne (Wesley Tener) seems to have lost interest in her; her best friend Betsy (Abby Weimann) doesn’t share Lou Ann’s desire

for more; and Preacher Hodges (Ben Smith) suggests she find a new church. Something needs to change. And then, Dwayne turns to the tabloids, exploiting the image for his own gain. People flock from miles around after hearing of the appearance, including Councilman Larry Williamson (Alex Colby), a woman seeking healing for her blind child (Libby Holland and Evan Detlefs), and a stranger who looks a lot like that shadow (Dan Heck). “This cast is doing a wonderful job getting to know their characters and bringing them to life. They are lovable, sincere, and downright funny. I couldn’t have asked for a better team,” says the director. “To me, this show is about so much more than what meets the eye. It’s about not needing to wait for a sign in order to take your life into your own hands. It’s about finding joy in the most unlikely of circumstances. And, it’s about all the things we do for love.” This play will make you laugh, cry, and look at life through a different perspective. The show opens Jan. 27 and runs Jan. 28, Feb. 2, 3, and 4 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 5 at 2 p.m.. Performances are at the ACTORS Studio, 120 Abraham Drive, Ames. Tickets are available at Ali Cakes, 300 Main St, in Downtown Ames or on-line at www.actorsinc.org. There is an opening night party for the audience on January 27 starting at 6:45 p.m. Come early on opening night and enjoy Southern-themed snacks.

Lrft to right: Wesley Tener, Melissa Krepfle and Abbey Weimann as Dwayne, Lou Ann and Betsy.

Pringnitz presents $1,000 to Nevada FFA Richard Pringnitz, of Hertz Farm Management, presented a check to Nevada FFA for $1,000 on Jan. 5. Pringnitz has been recognized as 2016 Professional Farm Manager of the Year American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers (ASFMRA). To honor Pringnitz for this achievement, Syngenta

provided a $1,000 donation in his name to Nevada FFA chapter. Pringnitz selected Nevada FFA because of his own experience in FFA while growing up in Mitchell county and attending Osage High School. “The educational experience in ag education classes and FFA leadership development was an important background

for my success in my adult career,” stated Pringnitz. Both of Pringnitz’s daughters, Kaitlyn and Megan

Fidella Marty, P.E.O. Chapter KR in Ames created a P.E.O. Philanthropies Wall Row-Quilt for her chapter’s program on the International and Iowa Projects. She looked for a new way to present the same information that is presented each year. Using white-on-white stars as a background, yellow borders and binding, project logos and P.E.O. stars, the wall hanging is 39” wide by 81” long. As of 2017, the wall hanging is on loan at the Ames Public Library and hangs in the “P.E.O.” sponsored meeting room.

In upcoming lessons, the students will be working on a unit that pertains to problem solving within the business sectors with an emphasis on business math. The students in this class are earning 3 DMACC credits as well as a local credit applied towards their graduation requirements.
