STC presents William Shakespeare’s Comedy, ‘Twelfth Night’ Story Theater Company (STC) is pleased to announce its annual teen show, a production of “Twelfth Night, by William Shakespeare. Performances are Fridays, March 1 and 8 at 7 p.m., Saturdays, March 2 and 9 at 7 p.m., and Sunday matinees March 3 and 10 at 2 p.m. All shows will be held at STC’s black box theater at 615 S. Dayton Avenue, Suite 125, in Ames. Tickets are $8 until Feb. 28; after that date tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for students and seniors. Tickets may be purchased through the STC website: www. storytheatercompany. org. Tickets may also be purchased at the door, however advance purchasing is recommended to ensure that seats will be available. Advance tickets will be held at the door and all seats are general admission. “Twelfth Night is Shakespeare’s romantic comedy with brother and sister, Viola and Sebastian. When they are shipwrecked on the island of Illyria, Viola
finds herself alone without her brother or the life that she knew. She decides she must disguise herself as a man in order to gain employment with Orsino, Duke of Illyria. The Duke is madly in love with Olivia, who wants nothing to do with him. When Orsino tasks Viola with delivering his messages of love to Olivia, Shakespeare’s brilliant comedy truly begins. Disguises, clowns, tricksters, and mistaken identities intertwine and concludes in the most unexpected manner for the characters, and in the most delightful way for the audience. “This show has been a challenge in interpreting Shakespeare’s vision in
a way the audience can understand in today’s world, “says Isabelle Thomas, Stage Manager. “It’s amazing to witness the show come alive at rehearsals through these immensely talented students. According to Thomas, the audience can look forward to seeing a hilarious love triangle unfold. “The absurdity of the whole show makes it one not to be missed. Story Theater Company’s annual teen show is an intensive experience wherein the participants form a theater company to create a production. With the guidance of adult directors and a design mentor, the teens not only act in the show, but are
also responsible for all sets, costumes, props, lights, dramaturgy, music, and stage management. “Twelfth Night has been my first show with STC, said Thomas, “and I’m so glad to be a part of it! There are many opportunities to boost your theater skills, both for actors and crew members. If you’d like to get a taste of what it’s like, I’d highly suggest coming to the next monthly Teen Club. “Twelfth Night is sponsored by Brad Dell and is co-directed by Vivian Cook and Mat Wymore with Christopher Culver serving as Design Mentor. Isabelle Thomas, a tenth grader at Gilbert High School, is the Stage Manager.

Nevada woman plans quilt show at the Community Building Linda Griffith loves quilts.
The 1962 Nevada High School gradu-
ate and lifelong Nevada resident is also passionate about the beautifully renovated Community Building at the fairgrounds in Nevada. She served on the fundraising committee that worked tirelessly to see that project completed a few years back. So, she’s merg-
ing her love of quilts and her love of the Community Building into an event that she wants to do. A “Quilts Sewn From the Heart” quilt show. On March 1 and 2, Griffith will display a number of quilts that she and friends of hers are going to share. A $5
admission fee will help her pay for the rental of the building those two days. “It’s a chance to use the Community Building,” she said, and about having bright, colorful quilts to look at, that will hopefully bring people out of the winter doldrums just a bit. “I just want spring and for people to share what we do at a sewing machine.” Griffith, an employee of State Bank & Trust for many years, retired in 2006 and decided in retirement that she was going to take her sewing skills to a whole new level. “I’d always sewed. That goes back to the days when mom made us dresses and clothes for school.”
She’d always admired quilts, and learning to sew and piece quilts together, gave her “something to do when the snow’s flying. My sewing machine is there, the material is there, and I don’t have to leave the house,” she said. She loves making all kinds of quilts, from lap quilts to T-shirt quilts, and she utilizes several women who have long-arm quilting machines to help her finish each project. “My quilts go to family members, people going through chemo… Just the other day, Story County Long Term Care needed lap quilts and I took several up there,” she said.
