Roland-Story hort students learn about chemical safety Integrated pest management has been the most recent subject of discussion in the Horticulture class at Roland-Story. In a recent lab, students were taught and trained on how to mix appropriate rates of chemicals with water. They also learned the importance of using the recommended amounts. According to Brad Taylor, horticulture instructor, “This was a lesson designed in which
students used cross-curricular subject material (language arts, math and science) to know how to safely and effectively mix chemicals with water to apply to lawns and gardens. One of our big fears is residual effects of chemical usage. By understanding the need for correct application, including mixing of chemical, we can eliminate chemical run-off and seepage into our water systems.”
One of the groups perform the lab on measuring accuracy.
