Tenancy changes In April and May, we consulted with you on proposed changes to your tenancy conditions. We wrote to all residents and discussed changes at resident meetings. We've had a great response. Nearly 3,500 residents have been in touch to let us know what they think. Based on the feedback, we’re taking the proposals to the Residents' Council, and then the AmicusHorizon Board in July. Once approved, we’ll contact you to ask you to sign the new tenancy conditions. This won't apply to residents in Housing for Older People schemes (HOPS).
Your voice, your vote Your Area Panel members want your vote! In July you’ll receive a ballot paper so you can choose who you’d like to represent you on your local Area Panel. The panels are made up of eight elected residents along with independent people from the local community. The Area Panel work with us to identify the priorities in your community. Please return your ballot paper to us by 17 August. Or you can vote online at: www.amicushorizon.org. uk/AreaPanelvote The results will be announced at the Area Panel Annual Meeting, on our website and Facebook page.

A message from the Chair Hello everyone - hasn’t the first half of the year flown by? There’s plenty to look forward to though, with all the estate action days lined up for summer. I hope to meet lots of you there come over and say hello.
Motiv8 Croydon
I’m lucky enough to be one of two representatives of our panel who sit on Residents’ Council. We get to take our ideas and thoughts “to the top”. I think communication with residents is really important, so I also sit on the Editorial Panel. This ensures we as residents get great communication.
So far Motiv8 Croydon has had a fantastic start. We’ve helped two people into employment, two into training and there’s more to come. To find out more or sign up for Motiv8 Croydon contact our Community Development Team.
I also sit on panels that scrutinise value for money, service charges, resident involvement and home ownership. I’d encourage anyone to come forward, get involved and join in. Let’s work together to get the very best service for all residents.
4
Getting support
Motiv8 Croydon is our employment support project for people in the Croydon and Surrey area. Residents can get one to one help and support with CV writing, job applications, job searches, interview skills and techniques. Residents can also access training and volunteering opportunities and advice on how to start their own business.
Coming to an area near you! The Croydon and Surrey team are hosting estate action days in the following areas: Subrosa Drive – Thursday 25 July 2013 Mann Close – Tuesday 13 August 2013 Willowtree Way – Thursday 12 September 2013. We’ll be contacting you soon with more information.

Tackling unlawful sub-lettings A total of £200,000 is being spent tackling unlawful sub-lettings in Croydon and Lambeth boroughs.
Fun for all!
Parents’ morning club The Parents’ Morning Club runs every Tuesday at the Queens Community Centre in Turner Crescent, Croydon. The free club, which started in April, runs from 9.30am to 11.30am and is for parents and their children under five. Children can come along for general play and activities. Parents have the chance to access other community development projects such as employment support, dog training and volunteering.
The money has been awarded by the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG). Both Croydon and Lambeth Councils have pledged to tackle the problem in our neighbourhoods. This’ll include joint investigations, tenancy audits and possible prosecutions. We’re supporting the councils as a key partner. It came after the DCLG made £9 million available to tackle tenancy fraud over the next two years.
Parents work with the project co-ordinators to develop the club and create a community hub to help bring local people together. If you’d like to get involved, speak to Briony Streets, Community Worker.
TagDog As part of TagDog we’re running free dog obedience and training courses. Residents can bring their dogs to get advice on a number of behaviour problems and training tips. The project runs every other Thursday evening from 7pm to 9pm at the Queens Community Centre, 1 Turner Crescent, Pawsons Road, Croydon, CR0 2NP. Contact Briony Streets, Community Worker, if you’d like to find out more.

Making local improvements We’ve invested £20,000 in 18 Local Improvement Fund (LIF) applications, improving the environment for over 250 residents. Anerley residents applied for funding for a communal shed. They wanted a place to securely store their belongings. Their application was approved by the panel. This means communal areas are now clear of bikes and residents have more space in their homes. The panel also approved funding to transform a street property garden in Anerley. The aim was to improve the community and encourage other residents to do the same. If you’d like to apply for LIF funding for a project in your area please contact: 0300 123 6010 or email southeastlondonap@amicushorizon.org.uk
Come and meet us! Come along to an estate action day and tell us how we can improve your neighbourhood. Residents enjoy the music and dancing!
Thank you dinner Residents enjoyed dancing and singing at our thank you dinner held at Croydon Park Hotel. Over 100 people joined the celebration on 10 May for a Caribbean-themed evening. The event was our chance to thank those residents who have given up their time over the year. Special awards were handed out to Glen Cady (London South East), Kola Ajao (London South West) and all the residents of Beaumaris Court. Entertainment was provided by Bollywood dancers, children from Love 2 Dance and the Reminisce Reggae Band. Thanks to everybody who made it such a memorable night!

Residents and staff raised £700
The team of staff and residents have really pulled it off.
Charity walk
We’ve been gathering your views locally so we can deliver local services that you need.
The Area Panel put their walking shoes on to ‘give something back’ on Saturday 13 April.
The energy and partnership work from the team, that includes me and other agencies has been brilliant! So much so, another housing association commented on how much they enjoyed an event in Tulse Hill.
Staff and members of the panel walked from Wavel Court to Lansdowne Green. They covered Streatham, Brixton and Stockwell! The sponsored event raised nearly £700 for Family Link (Lambeth), a local charity for children with severe disabilities.
As we approach the summer, I’m really looking forward to meeting so many more of you at more events. If you want to read more about the life of an Area Panel Chair, visit: www.amicushorizon.org.uk/AreaPanelChair
Elizabeth Harrington, Area Panel Member, said: “We had great weather and best of all we raised lots of money for Family Link.” Jo Robinson, Director of Co-regulation, added: “It’s been a brilliant day. It’s great for staff to work together with residents as one team.” For more information about Family Link, visit www.lambethfamilylink.org.uk
Saxonfield’s got talent! Young people of Saxonfield Close took part in ‘Sound Academy’, a music project exploring creativity. We discovered some fantastic young talent and had singers, drummers and MC’s working together to write four songs. We performed and recorded our creations at a professional music studio.Youth Worker, Hifzul Khahir, said: “It was great to see young people using music as a tool to explore themes such as civil rights.”

Taking action at Unity Close
Our first action day We held our first multi agency neighbourhood action day at Unity Close in March. There were representatives from: Resident Involvement Team Anti Social Behaviour Team Community Development Team Financial Inclusion Team Police Support Officers The Fire Brigade. We tidied up gardens, took away bulk refuse and had a general clean up. Music and refreshments helped energise everyone taking part. Hardeep Majhail, Head of Area, said: “It’s great to see all the teams and our partners working together.”
Fun for all the family We held our second neighbourhood action day in Tulse Hill, Lambeth on 8 April. Staff and residents from Wandle Housing Association also supported the event. Contractors, Chequers and Westlands were out in force, working in the neighbourhood. Activities included a bouncy castle, face painting, cake competition and lots more. The event was organised by the residents’ association. Resident Maria Coker, whose sons won the Easter Bonnet competition for 8-16 year olds, said: “There’s a great sense of community spirit in the neighbourhood, that’s why we love living here!” Terrie Possell, Chair of The Fields Residents’ Association, was delighted with the turn out. And her three-year-old granddaughter, Heidi, won the Easter Bonnet competition for the under-8s.
New computers for Jobs Club The Lansdowne Green Family Centre now has eight new computers after the Area Panel approved a fantastic LIF (Local Improvement Funding) project. The computers will be used to support a new community project – called Lansdowne Green Jobs Club. The happening
Here’s what’s happening for young people around London and Surrey...
Football apprentice When 22 year old Dan’s passion for football led him to become a casual coach at Millwall, little did he know his hobby would lead him to full time employment! Dan hadn’t settled on a career. His 10 hours football coaching per week allowed him to demonstrate his commitment to others, but it wasn’t a full-time job. Dan says: “I loved what I was doing for Millwall Football Club, but I still had too much time on my hands.” So when Dan was invited to join our London Youth Forum he jumped at the chance. In March 2013 Dan started a Youth Work Apprenticeship with Elevating Success, a training and personal development company. It’s early days but Dan has already seen the benefits.
Jaden collects his award
He’s a winner! 17 year old resident Jaden Cameron, of Tulse Hill, London, won the prestigious TPAS ‘Young Tenant of the Year Award, South East Region' earlier this year. Jaden impressed the judges with his leadership and volunteer work and is recognised as a brilliant role model for local young people. Over the past twelve months, Jaden’s led on a variety of projects such as ‘Learning Together’ that’s built trust and understanding between young and old people. Jaden also contributes his time to the local community, helping at play schemes, gardening projects and homework clubs.
Boz Rashid, Resident Involvement Officer says: “Dan is great to work with, his experience of working with young people shows when he leads on our youth forum.”
Jaden, Chair of our London Regional Youth Forum said: “I’m really pleased to win - I love acting as a voice for young people.” Dan’s kick started his career

Improving repair times We know the time it takes us to do a repair is important to you. So we're changing how we measure a repair job. We’ll look at how long it takes from the day you report the repair until the whole job is finished. That way we’ll know if we’re doing our best. At the moment we measure how long it takes to complete each part of a repair job. Each separate trade is given a different target time. We’ll be testing this new system and the Repairs and Maintenance Panel (RAMP) will look at the results. If it works well, we’ll be rolling it out in London and Kent later in the year!
Need extra help? Are you aged 65 or in receipt of Disability Living Allowance/Personal Independence Payment? Is there no one living with you who could help you with minor repairs? Ask about our added value services:
Our strategy for repairs and maintenance is approaching its final year. We hope you’ll agree our service has improved. But it’s time to rethink our plans for the next three years. And we’re aiming high, we want to provide the best repairs service in the UK! This summer we’ll be out and about seeking your views. We’ve five short questions about the repairs service. For us to improve we need to know what you think. You can also visit our website to complete the survey at: www.AmicusHorizon.org. uk/yourview Or pop into any of our area offices and tell us your views. The survey also asks your views on Communications and Resident Involvement.

Repairs and Maintenance Panel (RAMP)
Our Monitors enjoy meeting other residents. They feel being a fellow resident means they get a very honest response to the questions asked.
Are you interested in improving repairs? Our Resident Monitors check your experience of our repairs service. Monitors visit residents along with our Technical Inspectors at the end of a repair job. They ask questions about the quality of the service you received. They also look at the work that’s been carried out by our contractors.
Could you be a Resident Monitor? Do you have a morning or afternoon spare each month? Would you like to join the team? You’ll receive expert training and support. To find out more please contact Jill Kent, Partnership Development Manager.
Good to get away!
The year ahead
Our Repairs and Maintenance Panel (RAMP) enjoyed an away day to consider a few hot topics. They discussed:
RAMP have a busy year ahead. Here’s just some of the things they’ll be looking at:
How a contractor must behave in your home
Helping us plan our repiars and maintenance priorities for the next three years
The training needs of our new procurement panel
How we improve our Heating Policy
RAMP’s work plan for the year ahead
Ways to help you keep your energy bills down.
They also agreed to recruit and train 15 new Resident Monitors.

Your Green page
Grow for show! Residents and staff are working to create a garden that’ll be showcased at the Kent County Show on 12-14 July 2013. The garden includes herbs, vegetables, a small fruit tree and fragrant flowers. The showcase garden sits alongside a tatty plot of the same size, showing what can be done without spending lots of money. It’s also environmentally friendly and sustainable. The vision has become a reality with the hard work of residents and staff and help from contractor Blenwood Grounds Maintenance, and David and Sallie Shaw from Swale in Bloom. Children from The Abbey School in Faversham have also contributed to the design.
Why not come along and see them at the Kent County Show? And while you’re there, visit our IFORE stand… We’d love to see you at the show, so we’re giving away four sets of family tickets worth £37. Just answer this question:
Q. Children from which school have helped design our garden? Send your answer, along with your name and contact details to the Freepost address on the back page or email: comms@amicushorizon.org.uk Deadline: Monday 8 July 2013.
A ‘smoothie’ ride Our IFORE Team will also have a stand at the Kent County Show. IFORE (Innovation for Renewal) is our international sustainability project in Rushenden, Kent. The project aims to reduce our residents’ energy use by 80 percent. The team will be explaining the innovative technologies they use as well as their community engagement work. The team will also be showcasing their ‘smoothie bikes’. The bikes offer visitors the chance to make an energy efficient fruit smoothie drink. The blending is all done via pedal power! Residents designing this year’s annual review
Rave reviews A huge ‘thank you’ to all the residents who attended our Annual Review Design Day. It was fantastic to see such a great turn out of residents both young and old! Residents and staff looked at the design of this year's Annual Review. They commented on themes, layout, language and style. They also enjoyed learning more about social media. We’d also like to thank all the residents who voted for their favourite Annual Review on our Facebook page. Look out for your Annual Review in September 2013.
