Major parking lot repairs begin Thanks to the support of the congregation, much of it coming from donations and pledges made during the Miracle Offering, a complete replacement of our aging parking lot has begun. The plans, reviewed and approved by two independent civil engineers, are a long-term quality solution rather than a quick fix. Crumbling asphalt will be removed in all areas east of the New Life Center parking lot. Replacement with proper stone below graded asphalt, combined with a catch basin and drainage tile along the south property line, will drain into the new drainage piping provided by the city. It’s an exciting time at Amlin United Methodist Church, inside and outside!

The Pastor’s Message
Start a tradition, help a great cause, and stock up on holiday recipes! Please mark your calendar for Nov. 9 after the second service. Let’s start a tradition! We are hoping that everyone will bring their favorite holiday dish to share in another potluck atmosphere. Plan ahead so your dish can be a part of the menu making fun! Please email your recipe in advance to Jen Bevington at JenBevington@gmail.com or give a written copy to Cathi Allen, Doreen Cole, or Mary Vulic. We would like to have them by Oct. 31 in order to reproduce them. It will be a fun, and hopefully a fun tradition, where recipes can be picked up and hooked together, making a small cookbook of “Amlin Favorites.’ A small donation, which will be used for the "Imagine No More Malaria" campaign will be appreciated. If you have questions, or have recipes, please contact: Doreen Cole at dorcole@yahoo.com Jen Bevington at JenBevington@gmail.com Betty Baldwin at 527-7761 Cathi Allen at cathi.allen145@gmail.com Mary Vulic at mavulic@@yahoo.com, 771-8629
We welcome new members to our congregation. On Oct.5, several familiar friends accepted the commitWritten by Mary Vulic ment to full membership at Amlin. Roger and Joan Clingman, parents of our guitarist Andy, transferred their membership. Nick and Amber Leonard have come to us with their daughters, Julia and Addison. Josh and Sarah Jones have also joined our church. They are engaged by preparing communion for our early service. The Leonards live right up the street, off Jeffrelyn Drive, not far from the Ganims. Robert Domer, Sr. joins his daughter Jane who is already on our roll. His late wife, Dee, was a member and on occasion played the organ for our church. Joan Lasson also has joined. Joan has actively shared her talents in the music and worship service for quite some time. Her family, husband Gerry, daughter Julie, son-in-law Steve Ruland, and grand-children Eric and Aaliyah Brletic often help her fill a pew at worship. Also very new to our family, Carmen Elizabeth Fisher, born 10-2-14, is the daughter of Nick and Mindi Fisher and a little sister to Kennedy. We look forward to seeing the new baby and her family. Nathan and Denise Baldwin also brought a new son home recently. Truett James Baldwin is the grandson of Mike and Betty Baldwin. When firefighters were noted, honored and thanked last month, there were two omissions: David Wisner, who plays in the praise band, is also a fireman in Bellefontaine and Jimmy Holstein, who is a part-time fireman. Glad to add them as young men to the list since David’s father-in-law George Thompson is now officially a retired fireman and Dick Moore will be retiring this spring. When you see McKenna Walker, ask her about the school soccer team. As a 7th grader this year at Heritage MS, McKenna played on a winning 8th grade team.
Wow! Athletic ability runs in the family. McKenna’s mom, Heather, ran the Columbus Half Marathon this October along with other Amlinites, Becky Kent, Anndrea Slominski, and Andy Clingman, who completed the Full Marathon. Congratulations to all. Our church has pledged to raise $5000 for the Imagine No Malaria campaign of the West Ohio Conference of the UMC. To that end, children’s Sunday school classes have committed their weekly offerings, our Vacation Bible School chose it for its mission, Noisy Sunday collections have been added to the fund, and on Oct. 5, the Soups, Salads, and Sundaes lunch contributed $378. That last amount alone will save 38 lives. On Sunday, November 9, we can all participate in “Menu Making for Imagine No Malaria”, a fundraiser that will give us yummy food to eat and favorite recipes to take home. In the December newsletter, I hope to have an update on our total giving so far. Summer is long gone, but vacations never really go out of season. Recently Helen and Sonny Bayles spent several weeks driving through the upper Midwest, the Canadian Rockies and on down into national parks in western states. Have them share their tales with you. Jen and Jason Bevington spent 10 days in Hawaii. One highlight of their trip was renting a Harley to ride around the island. They attended Sunday worship service at a church located on a golf course the congregation had purchased. Very creative visioning. Ask Jen and Jason how that worked. Not a vacation, but a serious seminar will take Jennifer Gedeon to San Diego this month. The topic of her studies will be “eco-theology”. We’re hopeful she finds time for work and play and returns to us with fresh knowledge to further her vocation. Prayers for Don, James and Abby in her absence. We pray for a speedy recovery from surgery for Roger Shaw . We also pray that steps taken to stabilize Cyndee Thomas’s heart rhythms keep her healthy. And we ask for comfort and healing for Nancy Brinda, recently diagnosed with cancer.
Welcome to our newest members, who accepted the commitment at the October 5 service.

The newsletter is going green! In our continuing efforts to be good stewards of the earth and of the resources that the congregation of Amlin UMC has entrusted to us, the newsletter team has decided to reevaluate its distribution. In the beginning, God asked us to be good stewards, taking care of the gifts God had created, which we can see in Genesis 2:15. After much prayer and careful consideration, we have decided that we will no longer print and mail issues of Country Talk. If you do not receive the newsletter by email, please call the church office at (614) 771-1904 or email us amlinumc@aol.com. Prayerfully Yours, Sally Pauley, Nancy Chattoraj, Verna Baldridge, Jennifer Sayre, and Jennifer Gedeon.
