MINISTRY CATALOG FALL 2016

WELCOME Whether you are new to College Heights or a long time member, we are so glad you are here! Every person who walks through our doors is important to us, so if you ever feel like just another number, we’re doing something wrong and we give you permission to tell us about it! We know that you, like every person who comes to College Heights, are on a unique journey of faith marked by a quest to answer the questions you face. You may be asking yourself, “Will I fit in here with this group of people?” “Is this a place where I can serve?” “Can these people help me grow in my relationship with God?” Or maybe you are wrestling with difficult and disturbing questions like, “Where is God in the midst of tragedy?” “Is there hope for me to be forgiven by God?” “What happens to me when I die?” “How can I live a life that matters?” Wherever you are on your journey, we want to walk together with you. It is in Christian community that we learn our true identity, what our purpose is, and who we are meant to become. At College Heights, you can be a part of something bigger than yourself. It is only together that we can carry out our mission: to make disciples of Jesus Christ who change the world through the power of the Holy Spirit to the glory of God. We invite you to join us in • praying about everything to strengthen our trust in God and deepen our love for Him; • speaking the good news of Jesus’ rescue, healing, and purpose; • growing by following Jesus and choosing God’s way every day; and • loving like Jesus loved by giving time, resources, gifts and energy to help all people encounter God’s love. As a group of God’s people we care about you and your family and we’re here not only to help you grow spiritually, but to help in any way we can! If you would like to know more about College Heights or get plugged in, please don’t hesitate to connect with us!

WE WILL PRAY Pray about everything.
We will talk to God to deepen our trust in him, agreement with him, love of him, and commitment to his purpose.
SPEAK The things we love, we talk about. If we love Jesus and love people, we will speak the good news of Jesus’ rescue, healing, and purpose at every opportunity.
GROW Choose God’s way, every day.
We will follow and live like Jesus and help others as well by choosing God’s way everyday.
LOVE Love like Jesus.
We will love like Jesus by giving our lives, resources, gifts, and energy to help all people encounter God’s love.
MAKING DISCIPLES WHO CHANGE THE WORLD 11
SMALL GROUPS Discipleship is a process that takes shape in different contexts. Here at College Heights, we receive Holy Spirit inspired teaching from God’s word on Sunday’s - and then we learn to live out the word of God through relationships in our Small Groups. If you only hear God’s word taught on Sunday yet don’t learn to live it out in community, then you are missing half of what Jesus intended the church to be. We believe that focused small groups led by intentional small group leaders will change the fabric of individuals, families and communities. Join a Small Group in your area...or even better, start one of your own! Contact: Josh Beck, Small Groups Minister 417-624-6915 x320 // jbeck@ chjoplin.org

FAMILIES
A healthy family nurtures their marriage, seeks deep friendships, leans on a loving God, and leads their children to follow Jesus Christ. We help families pursue and lay this foundation. Contact Titus Neuenschwander, Family Minister, at x180 or titus@chjoplin.org or SuSan Murdock , Family Ministry Assistant, at x181 or smurdock@chjoplin.org.
MARRIAGE MENTORING
We are recruiting and training more marriage mentors! This is not a program; it’s a relationship between a seasoned and experienced couple and a less experienced couple to help show them the way. Contact Titus Neuenschwander, Family Minister, at x180 or titus@chjoplin.org or SuSan Murdock, Family MInistry Assistant, at x181 or smurdock@chjoplin.org.

EARLY CHILDHOOD
CHILDREN
We’re excited to introduce our NEW Early Childhood Ministry at College Heights! Baby City (0-1), Toddler Town (2-3), and Kid Cadets (Preschool 4’s-Kindergarten) are now combined into one department, to bring unity to these valuable ministries. Ann Wolfe serves as our Early Childhood Minister, assisted by Lois Pickering in Baby City/Toddler Town and Andrea Murdock in Kid Cadets. Be looking for opportunities for families to connect through service projects, fun activities, and meaningful moments for family growth!
BABY CITY

TODDLER TOWN
(2-3 Years Old) Our toddlers enjoy rotations of lessons, crafts, snacks, worship and play. Biblical virtues are taught and God’s Word is presented through ageappropriate and engaging lessons. Our little ones have lots of fun in Toddler Town!
KID CADETS
(Pre-K and K) Exciting things are happening in Kid Cadets! Starting this fall, our preschoolers and kindergartners will enjoy new lessons, worship, snacks, crafts, and activities. We’re introducing new curriculum and redecorating our area with fun colors!

At Puzzlemania, you’ll get to meet parents with children in the same class and some of our volunteers, too! Each room will have activities to do together, including a simple service project, so you’ll have a chance to interact with other families as well as your own. Friday, October 28 and November 11 from 6 pm to 8 pm: Babysitting Swap Parents will sign up to be on one of two teams. Team #1 will babysit the children of Team #2 here at the church, so the parents can have an evening to themselves. The teams will switch in November to return the favor.
15
Friday, December 9 @ 6 pm: Little Ladies Christmas Tea. Preschool and Kindergarten girls, along with their mommies, grandmas, or other special ladies in their life, will have a lovely evening of Christmas celebrations! Pretty dresses, goodies, crafts, and wonderful conversations are sure to help strengthen relationships and create special Christmas memories!
LAUNCHPAD
1st - 5th graders. Our goal in LaunchPad is to give every child a solid foundation for their spiritual journey. We do this by going all the way thru the Bible every year. Each week we dive into a Bible story to learn the facts and discuss how we can apply it to our lives. We also spend timein small groups to learn how to talk about Jesus and share our lives with others. We use FUN to make church enjoyable and memorable; hopefully this will be the best hours of a child’s week. Every week we like to...PLAY HARD, SING LOUD, LOVE GOD.
PARENTS,
We want you to know that we want your children to feel like they BELONG in LaunchPad. We design our time together to not only teach them about Jesus, but also to connect them with friends their own age and adult leaders who will engage them, encourage them, and be a consistent voice in their young lives. We know kids love to have fun, so we do our best to include that, too. It’s a great way to bond with friends and learn about Jesus.
SUNDAY MORNING 9:15 AM = Sunday School hour 11:00 AM = Large Group hour
ADULTS,
We want you to know that we are always on the lookout for people who love Jesus & love children. If you share our desire to establish a strong foundation for our children’s spiritual journey, we would love to talk to you about joining the team. We have lots of different roles to meet a wide variety of passions, skills, and comfort levels. So if you are thinking about it... JUST SAY YES to joining the LaunchPad team! PRAYER
SEPTEMBER 25, 2016
Our annual church-wide service day is taking on new shape this year as we plan to cover Joplin in extraordinary prayer! God is stirring us to take our prayers beyond the walls of our church buildings. As we put feet to our prayers, we’re beginning to pray with huge Kingdom-sized hope for our city. On Sunday morning, September 25, College Heights will spread out over the city of Joplin and ask for God’s blessing and for His Kingdom to be advanced in miraculous ways that only he can accomplish! Let’s be a church that prays God’s Kingdom to come in our city!

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE - THE MUSICAL
A Broadway-style musical brought to you by College Heights Christian Church, Ozark Christian College, and Stained Glass Theater Based on the beloved 1946 film, this musical faithfully follows George Bailey’s life from his childhood dreams to his midlife disappointments and beyond. Together we all take a journey to discover whether his life has mattered at all. Cinematically scored and theatrically staged, this adaptation breathes musical life into a familiar story, while retaining the warmth and humor of the original. A new holiday classic for devotees and newcomers alike. Open drama auditions are October 6-7 at Ozark Christian College. Interested in singing or playing in the orchestra Contact Wendy Dean, wdean@chjoplin.org, x301. 26
COLLEGE HEIGHTS CHRISTIAN SCHOOL College Heights Christian School was founded in 1978 by the elders and ministers at College Heights and has grown to approximately 550 students from preschool through 12th grade. The school follows a college preparatory curriculum laying the foundation for graduates to become successful business and community leaders. Students represent over 90 different churches, with the largest number coming from College Heights Christian Church. CHCS is accredited by the North Central Association and is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International. Missions work and service is the heart of the school. Each year high school students spend a week doing missions work locally, nationally and internationally. This year’s projects included trips as far as Kingston, Jamaica; Juarez, Mexico; Kentucky, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. Locally students served organizations such as The Neighborhood Life House, God’s Resort, Watered Gardens, Rapha House, Missouri Baptist Children’s Home, and Thru the Roof Ministry. Students from all ages are involved by having prayer partners, and donating items to the missions program. God has blessed the students by allowing them to share the gospel with others in many ways. SAFETY PLAN Your safety and the safety of your family is important. We have developed an “Emergency Response Plan” for emergency situations. In the case of severe weather your children will be the first to move to shelter in the safest areas of the building. Those in the Worship Center will be given specific directions regarding movement to their shelter areas. For additional information contact Steve Dennis at 624.6915 x120.
