A specialist in bridal makeup application and brow artistry for more than two decades, Devra offers a full range of facials, manicures, pedicures, body treatments and award-winning laser hair removal for all skin types. One of our most popular treatments is the HydraFacial, featured on Fox, ABC, NBC and CBS. A breakthrough procedure, it works in three ways to hydrate, detoxify and rejuvenate the skin — without irritation — for a clearer, smoother, more beautiful complexion. HydraFacial’s advanced technology exfoliates and resurfaces like microdermabrasion, providing the renewal of a chemical peel, offering the extractions and significant hydration of a deep-cleaning facial. Results are immediate and lasting, with no downtime. Devra has been featured in InStyle, New York and Shape magazines. She’s appeared as an expert on “The Today Show” and Lifetime television. Her spa carries only the finest, most effective products. Clients are devoted to G.M. Collin and SkinCeuticals moisturizers to counteract stressed skin from summer tans and guard against dryness caused by blustery winter winds. Stimulate your senses with a chocolate cake or green tea body scrub. Treat your toes to custom pedicures — in pumpkin, chocolate, vanilla, white tea, or, for that special day, birthday cake. The spa’s healthy airbrush tan gives a beachy, sun-kissed look, minus tanning bed damage. It’s the perfect indulgence during winter’s sun-starved days. Hours: Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday from noon to 8 p.m. Closed Sunday and Monday. Private appointments available.

rom personal insurance — life, health, long-term care, vehicle, homeowner’s and renter’s — to all forms of business insurance, including cybersecurity, the Plum Insurance Agency meets every need and reviews each client’s coverage on a yearly basis. If you and your current insurance provider don’t hold this kind of annual conversation, you’d be wise to contact Plum for a free-of-charge consultation. “Many new clients — homeowners as well as business owners — are coming in and requesting that we review their coverage,” says CEO/president Ellen Plum. “We do really meaningful work for all our clients by looking at what insurance they have and spending time talking with them about the coverage they actually need.” Particularly now, in this tight economy, it’s important to be sure one’s income is being spent wisely. Because purchasing insurance can be confusing, holding a conversation with a Plum agent about an insurance portfolio before recommendations are made can be a priceless addition to peace of mind. How much insurance is enough, and is it affordable? Also, if there’s a claim, can a knowledgeable, caring agent be reached quickly? There’s no anxiety with Plum, whose roots date back to 1949. Personal service is a hallmark of this three-generation, family-owned, independent agency. Plum’s agents work with many insurance companies, and as a result, rates are often lower than those found at much larger competitors, which can’t offer anything close to Plum’s comprehensive care. To see for yourself, stop in or make an appointment. Hours: Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday to 7 p.m. Evenings and weekends by appointment.

efore you decide to get cozy by the fire this winter, let Mr. Chimney make sure your fireplace and chimney are safe and secure for your home and family. Since 1970, Mr. Chimney has been a family-owned residential and commercial business serving New York and Connecticut. Mr. Chimney, a member of the National Chimney Sweep Guild, takes pride in putting customer safety first. They will clean, repair and service all furnace, wood-burning stove and fireplace flues, to keep you safe from silent — but deadly — carbon monoxide leaks throughout the year. The National Fire Protection Association and the National Chimney Sweep Guild recommend oil furnaces be cleaned every year, gas furnaces be cleaned every three to five years, and fireplaces be inspected and cleaned yearly, based on usage. Smoky fireplaces are Mr. Chimney’s specialty. With the price of oil climbing ever upward and natural gas prices dropping to historically low rates, now may be the time to consider
switching fuel sources. Mr. Chimney handles gas conversions when switching from an oil- to a gas-fired furnace. This service includes generating the required affidavit that a full inspection and cleaning was performed and that your chimney liner is in good shape — all in compliance with Con Edison’s safety guidelines. Chimney repair services include thorough inspections, video camera inspections, resolving smoke drafting issues, solving water leaks, rebuilding fireboxes, rebuilding brick chimneys, making damper repairs, expert masonry work, repointing, waterproofing and animal and nest removal. Installations include flue liners, standard-size caps, custom-made caps, Exhausto fans, turbine caps, fireplace glass doors, firebox inserts, custom-made chase pans, metal smoke stacks, copper flashing, and top and bottom dampers. Mr. Chimney will build you a new chimney or fireplace, or install a wood-burning stove. Call 24 hours a day, seven days a week for a free estimate or emergency service.

Since 2005, Ardsley resident Lauren Kardish and her experienced staff at Playdates for Pets have gone beyond pet care to provide enriching experiences for your animal companions. The company offers care in your home while you’re at work or on vacation (they’ll even sleep over at your home in the Rivertowns and surrounding areas). They can tend to every animal from birds and fish to cats and dogs. Going away? Board your pet at one of their homes, where the number of “houseguests” is limited and pets enjoy a family environment. For a change of pace, how about a pet playdate? It’s a fun two-hour playgroup where dogs socialize, have fun and burn off excess energy in a fenced, supervised yard, with separate playgroups for large and small dogs. Or book your furry friend for their Pet Hikes program: it’s great for dogs who need more exercise or to practice good manners and leash walking skills. Playdates for Pets is bonded, fully insured and members of Pet Sitters International.

A graduate of George Washington University and New York Chiropractic College, Dr. David Klein’s been in practice for 30 years, specializing in applied kinesiology and balancing the body via muscles and ligaments. “The posture of the body changes with a sports or dance injury,” he says. “I look at the frame of the body — one side versus the other, top to bottom — to balance the muscles, ligaments and frame.” Dr. Klein doesn’t perform any “twisting,” “cracking” or “pulling” on the body. Instead, he uses a tool known as the Activator to make most body and spinal corrections. Having achieved advanced proficiency rating in the Activator method, Dr. Klein treats young children as well as older patients. Professional athletes, dancers and performers are patients of Dr. Klein, who integrates the upper and lower body to ensure correct gait. “We test shoes and sneakers for correct fit, because poor-fitting shoes affect the whole body,” Dr. Klein says. “Many patients with chronic lower back pain or shoulder problems are using poorfitting orthotics. Sandra Cossa and Colleen McMahon Anna Krosche
It’s the call every mother dreads: “Your child has head lice.” No worries. Anna Albano-Krosche, the Lice Lady of Westchester, can come to the rescue 365 days a year, “because lice is always an emergency.” Anna is Westchester’s original head lice removal expert. “I’ve been in business since 1998, and I’ve treated over 10,000 heads,” says Anna. She is the area’s only lice removal specialist with a freestanding salon. She also makes house calls. Anna frequently travels to schools and camps to do lice checks and to give presentations on head lice prevention. “I’ve been through this with my own children and myself, and I relate 100 percent to everybody who comes in,” she says. A client’s head is examined under a magnification light, then is given a 20minute, all-natural enzyme-based shampoo. Nits are combed from the hair, then the hair is rinsed, blown dry and rechecked. Clients leave the salon with a homework sheet, including instructions on how to “delouse your house.”

ew York School of Esthetics offers the New York State 600-hour esthetics (skin care) course, which leads to eligibility to sit for the state-board testing procedures. It is our mission to provide an exciting, wellplanned curriculum for students, one that will put you ahead in this fast-growing industry. The function of the school is to provide a professional environment where the student learns the theory and principles (hands-on) in esthetics. We will prepare all students for their New York State esthetic written and practical board exams. Since opening, New York School of Esthetics has not raised its tuition and includes more certifications in the undergraduate program than any other school of its kind. These certifications include microdermabrasion, basic chemical peel, body treatments and teeth whitening. Graduates are prepared for entry-level positions that include working with plastic surgeons and skin care specialists. The school’s graduates are employed in dermatologists’ offices and day spas throughout Westchester and Rockland counties. As one student said, “I learned so much compared to other schools of esthetics and they made us feel more like family rather than just friends! I graduated knowing that I am a professional with great knowledge in skin care!” New York School of Esthetics is fully accredited by National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts & Sciences, Inc., (NACCAS) and offers financial aid to those who qualify. We participate in the Pell Grant program, Direct Student Loans and Parent Plus Loans.

Linda Angel
Linda Angel, owner of Art Transcending Time, designs jewelry that is more than just an accessory to wear; it is a true work of art. She incorporates antique Italian micro mosaics with semi-precious stones strung on silk to create one-of-a-kind pieces. Her jewelry is crafted in a wide variety of colors, most typically in blues, greens and warm earthy tones. “I get inspired by each antique mosaic that I work with,” Linda says. Her custom-made necklaces are created by combining a sparkling antique chandelier crystal with a personal photo, often of ancestors. “I love making these memory pieces for my customers,” says Linda, adding that she enjoys hearing the personal stories and history some of her customers share while ordering their jewelry. “Each necklace represents a connection between the past and present.” Stop into Linda’s studio and boutique to see her at work and learn more about her “unique handmade jewelry transcending time.” Hours: Wednesday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Step into La Catena and experience a taste of Tuscany. Master restaurateur Emilio Delija has created a warm, inviting ambience that was praised by The New York Times for its “Old-World charm.” La Catena’s signature dish, pappardelle alla Emilio, features broad ribbons of homemade pasta with porcini, shiitake and oyster mushrooms and a shimmer of cream, tossed in a hollowed-out wheel of Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese and flamed with cognac. It was voted Best Tableside Presentation of 2013 by Westchester magazine. Order up more excitement with branzino or honey-sweet Dover sole filleted in front of you. Meats, fish and produce are always fresh, prepared from scratch and beautifully presented. Desserts are not to be missed: try the white chocolate strawberry shortcake, or the zabaglione or banana flambé, made tableside. La Catena offers a spacious party room for your next special event, and expert catering for your at-home celebration. Hours: Open seven days a week. Lunch: Monday through Sunday, from noon to 3 p.m. Dinner: Sunday through Thursday, from 3 to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday to 11 p.m.

Ken Cohn and George Djonovic
Ruffled Feathers Gourmet Rotisserie, the popular takeout spot, is now entering its 22nd year, and its delicious prepared foods have become standard fare in most homes in and around Scarsdale. Owners Ken and George specialize in preparing healthy and low-fat foods using the best and freshest ingredients available. Besides the great rotisserie chickens, other items are available from the rotisserie, such as Long Island duck, Cornish game hens, fresh turkeys, and garlic and herb-crusted filet mignon. They also have oversized grilled chicken breast and skinless fried chicken, which is low in both cholesterol and fat but high in flavor. For those who choose not to have chicken, they offer many other dishes: grilled salmon, sole française, turkey chili, turkey burgers, baby back ribs and assorted pasta dishes are among the highlights. Other notable delicacies available at Ruffled Feathers include homemade coleslaw, kasha varnishkas (that would make grandma proud), rice pudding, mélange of roasted vegetables, purée of butternut squash, creamed spinach (it’s really creamless); cranberry, walnut and apple compote; solid white tuna with dried cranberries and apples; homemade soups and of course, their famous chopped chicken liver. Scott Wunderlich and Arthur Wunderlich
When Arthur Wunderlich opened Village Wine & Spirit Shop in the mid-1970s, local wine enthusiasts focused on imports. Arthur knew it was only a matter of time before American wines were as popular as Bordeaux and Burgundy. Named One of Westchester’s Great Wine Shops by Westchester magazine and rated five stars for its outstanding website, they have one of the largest selections of American wines in addition to the best of Europe — from Champagne, Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhone Valley to Italy, Spain and Portugal — and exciting wines from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and South America. Scott Wunderlich gave up his job as a trial attorney to come into the shop full-time. In an era where boutique importers and distributors have been gobbled up by large houses, he seeks out importers and distributors believing in quality instead of quantity. Whether in the shop or on the website, we offer personal service in the selection of wines that will complement your taste and distinctive menus. Local and worldwide delivery. Hours: Open seven days a week. Monday through Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday through Saturday to 8 p.m., Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
