1st Winner Healthy Tips for Culinary Adventure Justinus Kurniabudhi Novarianto, Liswindio Apendicaesar AMSA-UNS Making some sort of journey will always be a joyous life moment, for we can take a breath for a while from our hectic daily activities. That is, without doubt, the reason why most people always look forward to holiday, especially to venture to different cities. However, when it comes to health, travelling may have some risks that can ruin ones’ long awaited vacation. What we eat, the place we stay, the environment we engage with, and the people we meet along the way may be the agents of infection. If we are not careful and preventive enough, the holiday we have anticipated to be joyful will turn into disaster due to the disease transmission. It is hence highly encouraged for us to find information about the condition of our destination before we leave, whether there is any endemic case in the specified area. We must make sure our body’s immune system is good enough to travel so we won’t catch any illness. Having medical check-up beforehand is thus recommended. As further prevention, it is better to study the local map to search for medical care providers in the local area of destination, for should something happen in the way. Bear in mind that we rarely can predict what happen in our journey, so do not forget to always bring our own healthy snacks and emergency medications. Nevertheless, culinary is always the best part of the adventure in travelling. That is why we must always pay attention to our meals. Washing hands before feeding is a must. In order not to get food poisoning due to the bacterial infections, we must also avoid food that is not cooked or processed properly. In addition, always learn about what’s added in our food to avoid any ingredient that may harm us.

2nd Winner Are You Ready For the Sun? Ayudhea Tannika AMSA-Ukrida Summer vacation will always be the happiest vacation people have in a year. Most people go to the beach or tropical countries for summer destination. People who are not accustomed to the tropical weather or sun exposure will likely to get a sunburn. Sunburn is the term for red, sometimes swollen and painful skin, caused by over-exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun. As a medical student in Indonesia, I think it is important for travellers who are planning to have a vacation in Indonesia to get a pre-travel consultation, especially to get more information about things associated with the weather. Because of that, this infographic poster aims to acknowledge people some basic things about sunburn. The poster contains some graphics and text information about signs, symptoms, and management of sunburn. Travellers would worry less if they do the right precautions before, during, and after having a vacation in tropical countries. For example, applying a 30 SPF sunscreen to skin, wearing suitable wardrobe and beauty products with UV protection, and using an umbrella which has a metallic color on its top side (because it can decrease direct UV rays penetration to our bodies). Do not make sunburn messing up your vacation, because everyone deserves a nice and joyful summer! So, are you ready for the sun?

3rd Winner Untitled Vinson Hartoyo and Sylvia Wijaya AMSA-UPH Infectious disease in travel medicine has become a global burden for such a long time. Indeed, this global burden caused by travel disease is not as much as that is given by major disease such as cardiovascular disease or diabetes. But unfortunately this opinion of travel disease has lead us to an underestimation of this problem. This results in a very minor preventive effort done for some diseases regarded as minor diseases that have high incidence case rate index in their endemic area. Through this poster, we want to raise global attention of how important travel disease is. In this era of globalization where travelling can be easily done even across the continences. People travel to other countries with many reasons from works stuff to just enjoy a holiday. Frequently, they don’t only just bring souvenirs back to their homeland but also specific disease of the country which they visited. Due to a very low incidence case rate index in other country, these minor travel disease infection will lead to a misdiagnose, mistakes in treatment and finally will lead to death of the patient. This scenario is one of the reasons why travel disease can often become re-emerging disease in the world. Education is one possible way to face this problem. We can educate medical students around the world about these diseases. But this will takes time and medical students will take longer time than usual to become a doctor. We propose that the best way to deal with this problem is to prevent it before it happened. We are aware that WHO has made some protocol about prevention of some major travel diseases. But we also notice that there are some minor diseases that actually will be fatal if it infects people, and the fact that, the way to prevent these diseases is simple.

Wherever You Go David Martin, Jevonda Edria AMSA-UKI Some people have their own hobbies, one of them is travelling. Travel to east, travel to west, travel to north, travel to south, travel to everywhere. But sometimes they forgot one thing. Their health preparation before go to their travel destination. As we know that every places we want to visit has their own uniqueness and risks. When we travel to tropical island with beautiful beaches, amazing mountains, we have to prevent our body from some tropical infections, such as dengue fever, malaria, diarrhea, etc. The same thing will happen to those who want to travel onto winter wonderland with sparkling snow everywhere, they have to be ready to get cold, pneumonia, and frostbites. But with the right preparation we can prevent all of those thing and enjoy our trip. What do you have to prepare? Of course you will estimate how many days you’ll spend, bring enough and suitable clothes(like light and bright clothes in summer ; coats, sweater, and boots in winter), gather information about health issues in your destination city/country, and have a proper vaccination. So, are you ready for a fun and long journey?

ALCOHOL OR MINERAL WATER?? Muhammad Hibaturrahman, Risky Wulandari, Irsalina Idzni AMSA-UKI This poster aims to inform about the consumption of alcohol can aggravate Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) to hikers while in altitude.AMS is a disease that attacks the hikers altitude, usually above 8000 feet or 2400 meters. Acute mountain sickness is caused by reduced air pressure and lower oxygen levels at high altitudes. Symptoms normally generated was difficulty sleeping, dizzines, fatigue, nausea or vomiting, headache and dehydration. Consumption of alcohol itself can disrupt the body's natural fluid balance of the body suffers as a result of dehydration. Meanwhile itself dehydration causes fatigue and interfere with productivity decreases muscle energy production. We pick slogan the best treatment is prevention so we shortened it to END where E for eat regular meals high in carbohydrate, N for no smoking andalcohol, and D for drink plenty of mineral water.

Beat That! Marviken Namseo AMSA-UKI The statistic of newbie hiker in Indonesia has been increasing significantly nowadays. After the succesful of Indonesia box office movie “5 cm” that tell us how beautiful being on the top of the amazing mountain with mates, many people realize that mountain can be their holiday destination too. But, this strong will didn’t walk side by side with a good preparation. Without a good preparation, journey to the peak of a mountain can be dangerous. Acute mountain sickness can make those newbie hikers give up before they can reach the top. Acute Mountain Sickness has it’s own sypmtomps like fatigue, light headed, headache, dizzy, nausea, vomit, and sometimes hypothermia in an extreme condition. If we can’t survive from this symptoms, death would come to us. The best way is prevention. We have to prepare our body in a very good condition. So you can go to the gym and do some exercise before you hike. Jogging is a good and cheap way too to maintain our fitness. When you climb the mountain, climb it gradually. If you feel fatigue, take a rest till you get your body controlled. Dont force it. Sleep at lower altitude if possible and learn to recognize the early symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness. If you suffering from this symptoms, go down at minimum 300 meters to reduce it. Have a safe climbing, beat those Acute Mountain Sickness, and enjoy the scenery up there ☺

“Traveler’s Diarrhea” Akbar Fitrahadi & Yeni Purnamasari AMSA-UB Estimated 10 million – 20-50% of international travelers – affected by this diarrhea annually. In Indonesia where the paradise of foods and also bacteria, travelers would be more susceptible occurring this disease. Third world problem as hygiene, sanitation, and cleanliness are the first causal agents to this disease. Travelling could be painstakingly uncomfortable when traveler had this disease. Its unknown source of disease makes blame on infectious agents such as enteropathogen bacteria. Escherichia coli that called ETEC have an enterotoxigenic ability to get the disease occurred accounted for 20-75% of incidence. These bacteria had known to be living on fecal contaminated foods and water. A great decision to deal with traveler’s diarrhea is including choosing foods and beverages cleverly and carefully. Thus, travelling would become more enjoyable and peace in mind from getting an illness. Choosing a clean and nice place to eat are preferable as a precaution to keep away from infected by ETEC. Meanwhile, as a safety precaution in the third world countries, such as Indonesia, we should know that a hygiene, sanitation, and cleanliness are the big problem. To prevent from getting infected, “Eat Wise, Drink Properly, Keep Hygiene” can be a simple method to remind you what you should do. Eat Wise means you should choose which foods are good to eat. Avoid raw fruits, vegetables, and meat as it can be a source of infecting agents. Drink properly means you must keep in mind to choose good water for activities. Avoiding ice and uncooked water could be a safest choice, even for tooth brushing. Keep Hygiene means you should always do a hygiene standard. A very useful way to keep hygiene is to clean and wash your hands properly. Thus, Traveler’s Diarrhea could be prevented. This poster functions as a tool for remembering what you should do on location. People tend to eat and do anything relate to hygiene same as back when they were in their home location. As we know that traveler’s diarrhea can’t be predicted and the sources aren’t clear, the safest and efficient ways are doing so that mentioned in this poster. That’s why in this poster doesn’t have any precaution mentioned as the diarrhea symptoms itself can be minimized by over-the-counter medicine regiments thus we couldn’t know exactly what are the best medicine by empirical evidence as that should be examined in healthcare center. It is wise for travelers to be cautious regarding their food intake in order to be always healthy while traveling. There are many dangers await thy fellow travelers. One of them, is typhoid fever. It is best to prevent typhoid fever before it gets you. So my team motto is "secure yourself from typhoid, before it gets you!" After reviewing every risk factors and etiologies of typhoid fever. We conclude that travelers shall most be aware of water. Almost any kind of food and beverages go through water before they are consumble. So it is important to keep yourself away from tainted source of water. Always keep yourself clean, always keep your food clean. For example, clean and peel fruit and vegetables before eating them, use/drink water only from clean and untainted source. “Thypoid Fever” Firdaus AMSA-UB Typhoid fever is a systemic infection caused by Salmonella enterica serotype Typhi (S. typhi). Salmonella are gram-negative bacteria, and their reservoir is persons chronically infected with the typhoid bacteria. This bactery can found in contaminated food or water and understandably is quite common in areas of poor sanitation. Typhoid fever may be transmitted if carriers handle food or use a toilet without practicing proper hygiene. It may also occur if water supplies are contaminated by excreta or not properly treated. Flies may also carry the bacteria from feces onto food. Indonesia is a developing country that has quite a lot of cases of typhoid fever. That’s happen because developing countries like Indonesia has relatively low level of hygiene. Thypoid fever has some symptoms which could be known by traveler so that appropriate treatment can be done for cope typhus fever. The symptoms are lasting high fevers, weakness, stomach pains, headache, loss of appetite constipation, and some have a rash. The symptoms almost similar with diarrheal disease, but some patients do not have diarrhea. Without treatment, in the second week general symptoms become more severe. Abdominal pain increases and diarrhea may occur. A rash made up of pink/red spots lasting for a day or so may occur, especially on the chest and abdomen of some patients. During the third week without treatment, symptoms progressively get worse and two serious complications may occur (bleeding can happen but rare). Prevention is still better than treating typhoid. Typhoid fever can be prevented with vaccinated, eat safe foods, drink safe beverage, and practice hygiene and cleanliness.

Wipeout the threats of Dengue Yodha Pranata, Kadek Lina K. D., Ella Ade Y. AMSA-UB Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection which is transmitted between people by Aedes mosquitoes. This disease become a leading of hospitalization and lifethreatening illnes. Nowdays, the incidence of dengue has grown around the world and become major public health concern. Depending on the travel destination, travellers may be exposed to a number of infectious diseases; exposure depends on the presence of infectious agents in the area to be visited. There is a significant risk for travellers in areas where dengue is endemic and in areas affected by epidemics of dengue. Epidemic dengue has spread to new areas and has increased in the already affected areas of the region, included Indonesia. There is no specific vaccine for dengue, so the only method to control or prevent the transmission of dengue virus is to fight against vector mosquitoes. This poster suggest to raise awareness among the traveler who came to Indonesia about the dengue’s symptoms and things that should do to prevent affected by dengue. The things that should do to prevent is through “BALINESSE”. It sounds easier to remember by traveller. Dengue should be suspected when a high fever is accompanied by two of the following symptoms: severe headache, muscle and joint pains, nausea, vomiting and swollen glands or rash. Symptoms usually last for 2–7 days, after an incubation period of 4–10 days after the bite from an infected mosquito. With this knowledges about symptoms and how to prevent Dengue, we hope that the traveller can wipeout the threats of Dengue and enjoy Indonesia safely. So, lets spread this information like the bubbles to decrease the incidence of dengue.

FIGHT THE DENGUE BITE WHEN TRAVELLING WITH MOSQUITO REPELLENT Yodha Pranata, Kadek Lina K. D., Ella Ade Y. AMSA-UB Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection which is transmitted between people by Aedes mosquitoes. This disease become a leading of hospitalization and life-threatening illnes. Depending on the travel destination, travelers may be exposed by the number of infectious diseases; exposure depends on the presence of infectious agents in the area to be visited. Indonesia is Dengue endemic, therefore there is a significant risk for travelers which is visiting Indonesia to be affected by Dengue. Dengue is spread through mosquito bites and there is currently no vaccine or medicine to prevent dengue. The mosquito that carries the dengue virus can bite during the day and night, both indoors and outdoors and often lives around buildings in urban areas. When traveling in Indonesia, travelers should protect themselves through avoid mosquito bites to prevent dengue. This poster suggest to share the effective management of traveling health when traveling in Indonesia by using mosquito repellent. Mosquito repellents help reduce exposure to mosquito bites. Repellents that contain DEET, permethrin, picaridin provide protection against mosquitoes. Repellents come in liquids, lotions, gels, aerosols and pump sprays. The effectiveness of repellents varies with the active ingredient(s), the concentration, and the target species. Creams and gels containing DEET or picaridin are considered most effective, so look at the mascot, it’s cream repellent!. In the mascot appealed all the travelers to fight the dengue with mosquito repellent. With the mascot, the travelers can remember easily to always bring and use mosquito repellent in their bag when they are going to travelling to anywhere. Untitled Januadi Indra Jaya, Nayla Rahmadiani AMSA-UB In these last few decades, the development of technology in the transportation field change people perspective upon distance. The existence of a fast and affordable transportation makes people craving to witness other part of the world with their own eyes. A far distance country or province did not reduce their wish to travel and makes people highly mobile nowadays. One of the many popular destinations for travellers is tropical countries such as Indonesia, which has a high prevalence of infectious diseases caused by microorganisms. The problem arising from this situation is that the travellers who go to tropical countries therefore are more susceptible in getting infectious diseases. Moreover, most travellers only care about tasty and unique food, place to visit and shelter in the destination country, without even trying to search for the diseases which are common in their destination country that might pose a threat for them and how to deal with it. This poster aims to change the aforementioned travellers’ behavior by using targetting their so-called “perceptions of susceptibility” according to the Health Belief Model theory and make them aware that in every travel that they are about to have to a tropical country such as Indonesia, there is not only a place to visit or a food to hunt, but there always be a high risk of getting an infectious disease. Thus, once people started to aware that microorganisms that can infect them is everywhere, realize that they are susceptible to it, they will search for an appropriate method to tackle that or the best decision about their travel, because the first and most important point in facing a travel disease issue is to make them realize and aware that there always be a danger in every step they take. Risks of Consuming Ice Cubes to Travellers to Indonesia Cecillia A. Wulandari, Emiliana Kartika AMSA-UAJ The development of transportation systems makes people can easily travel from one country to another in such low cost and hassle-free. Every place has its own hazard, but most of us rarely pay attention to the health aspect and deny the possibilities that we might get infected by various diseases which we called as travellers’ disease. In Indonesia the most common travellers’ diseases are hepatitis A and typhoid. Contaminated water and food are the main problems which cause these diseases. We all know that water is one of human basic needs and most of us put a huge attention about the quality of water we drink every day. But, only a few of us pay attention to the ice cubes served in our beverages, whether it is made of clean water or not. Whereas, adding ice cubes is one good way to have your beverages cool in longer times, especially in tropical countries such as Indonesia. If those ice cubes are made of contaminated water or poor-hygiene tools are used to make ice cubes, then it is possible that the ice cubes contain bacteria that cause some diseases. In one study published in JAMA in 2004, it is noted that 125 (62%) of food vendors surveyed in Jakarta using ice cubes in the beverages they sell. From 23 samples taken on that study, research showed that all of the ice cubes were contaminated. The lack of awareness about the importance of consuming clean ice cubes becomes our concern. Thus, through this poster we would like to make people to be aware of consuming contaminated ice cubes. Beside vaccination, we offer solution by consuming cooled beverages instead of adding ice, to prevent the transmission of some travellers’ diseases through contaminated ice cubes. Have you figured out how nice is your ice?

Your Blood is Their Destination Andre Indrawan, Margaretha Nathania, Kezia Eveline AMSA-UA Dengue is endemic in most tropical and subtropical countries, which are popular tourist destination. Dengue fever has been reported as the second most frequent cause of hospitalization (after malaria) among travelers returning from the tropics. Based on KOMPAS, the number of deaths around 1,317 people in 2010, Indonesia ranks highest cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever in ASEAN. Dengue is a self-limited, systemic viral infection transmitted between humans by mosquitoes (Aedes aegypti). The incubation period ranges from 4 to 7 days. After the incubation period, there are some few signs of dengue, such as fever, severe headache, and aching joints and muscles. However, symptoms and signs are not specific. Only labolatory-based diagnosis can show the specific sign of dengue. People who have dengue fever should rest, drink plenty of fluids and reduce the fever using paracetamol and see a doctor. There is no vaccine or any specific medicine to treat dengue. The most effective preventive measures for the single travelers in areas where dengue fever is endemic are avoid mosquito bites by using insect repellent ointment, protective clothing (which is most effective is permethrinimpregnated) and insecticide. Travelers often forget about their health when they are on trip. And unwittingly there’s something that threaten our lives by infecting our blood. Our objective in this poster is emphasizing how important to protect ourselves by knowing what are attacking us. For pretravel who want to visit endemic areas, it is important to know information about dengue fever, dengue fever risk, signs and symptoms of dengue infection, prevention, and treatment of dengue.

Know it to prevent it !

Beware of Dengue Raditya Rizki Muhammad, Hanum Widiana, Nadhya Nur Fitri AMSA-UA Since 1968 to 2009, the World Health Organization records Indonesia as the country with the highest case of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever in South East Asia. The high incidence and case fatality rate of dengue in Indonesia indicates that dengue infection could not be handled yet. Dengue is caused by the dengue virus, member of the family flaviviridae and transmitted by the bite of Aedes aegypty mosquito, also known as the Asian Tiger Virus. There are four serotypes of dengue virus: DEN-1, DEN-2, DEN-3 and DEN-4, all present in Indonesia. The increasing volume of international travel exposes international travelers visiting Indonesia towards dengue infection. Several studies report that dengue infection is the main cause of fever complaints in travelers originating from a temperate country returning from a visit to a tropical or subtropical country. The main complaints presented by these travelers are fever, headache, muscle pain, joint pain, and lethargy. The aedes mosquitoes are well adapted to urban environment. They breed in tires, cans, and water jars near human dwellings, and the females transmit dengue readily because of their predilection for human blood and habit of multiple, interrupted feedings. The prevention of dengue infection may be conducted by management of the environment, preventing the development of mosquito larva. At an individual level prevention, it is advised that travelers do not visit Indonesia in the wet season in October to March, the favorable breeding time for Aedes mosquitoes. Travelers should also wear bright colored long sleeved clothing and apply mosquito repellants on exposed parts of their skin. It is also important to understand the course of the disease and symptoms of dengue infection so travelers could seek immediate medical support in case the traveler is infected.

Watch Out! Thypoid is Ready to Infect You! Kevin Sastra Dhinata, Clarissa Cita Magdalena, Anthomina Maya Rantesalu AMSA-UA Typhoid is one of the most common traveler’s disease in Indonesia. It infects a lot of travelers who travel without taking precautions to Indonesia each year. Data from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia shows that, based in a research conducted in 2001, the occurrence of typhoid is 350-810 incidences per 100,000 population, which is a relatively enormous number. The disease itself is mainly caused by the infection of the bacterium Salmonella typhii, which infects people / travelers by entering the human bodies through contaminated water and food due to poor hygiene consumed by travelers during their trip in Indonesia. We can prevent typhoid as suggested by CDC in 2013 by: First, obtaining a pre-tour vaccination. The vaccine that can be usedare Ty21a (oral) and ViCPS (parenteral), and should be given a few days before conducting the tour to regions where typhoid is endemic.Second, we must put a concern of the hygiene of our diet during our tripby washing our hands before having a meal, and if possible, avoid buying food and beverages from street vendors and prefer consuming packaged food and beverages to minimize the probability that the typhoid-causing bacteria can get into ourselves through meal. Besides that, in case of being infected during your trip, please go and consult to a doctor immediately to prevent further discomfort and complications. We implied the slogan “Keep Clean to Prevent Typhoid from Ruining Your Holiday!” so that, first of all, we can encourage the readers (not only tourists but also local citizens that read the poster) to keep clean. If the readers keep their hygiene good, it will help to prevent them from typhoid infection so that their holiday will stay good as it is and not ruined.

BEAUTIFUL OR SICK PAPUA, YOU CHOOSE! Julius Albert Sugianto , Terrence Timothy Evan Lusida, Laurentius Andre AMSA-UA In recent years, ease of long-distance transport has made travelling a new hobby to most people. Indonesia, with its beautiful Papua which has beautiful culture, eternal snow in Jaya wijaya, and secluded beach in Raja Ampat, has become a host to many tourists. However, high prevalence of mosquito-borne diseases such as malaria, filariasis, and dengue (18.5%, 0.3%, and 0.9% of prevalence in papua, respectively) urge tourists to think twice before visiting Papua. In this poster, we want tourists not to be afraid of going to Papua because malaria, dengue, and filariasisare all preventable. By preventing its main vector’s bite (mosquitoes) we can avoid being infected. Therefore, the slogan we propose is:“Avoid sick Papua by bringing MORéLO” (MOsquito net, mosquito REpellent, and LOng clothes). Mosquitonet is highly effective against mosquitoborne disease. Study claimthis netreduces under-5 year’s mortality by 20% in all-cause within 2 years of increasing mosquito net use from 0 to 5070%.Mosquito repellentcan prevent mosquito bites by killing the mosquito with the chemical it sprays. Long clothes is used to reduce skin exposure, making it harder for mosquito to bite. Many studies reported that wearing long clothes is a significant factor to reduce the infection rate. The sidestory behind the poster is to give tourists or local people a choice to choose the beautiful Papua or sick Papua. Bringing MORéLO means that people will be able to fully enjoy Papua. On the contrary, not bringing them will make tourists prone toward mosquito bites which will lead tomalaria, filariasis, or dengue and then, in worst case scenario, death. In the end, MORéLO are simple things to bring but they can keep mosquito away and protect us from the scary diseases mosquito bring.

GET YOUR VACCINATION Angela Christine, Kezia Eveline AMSA-UA Nowadays, travelling has become popular among people around the world. People travel from their hometown to some places which has different culture, weather, and habits with their hometown. Then, how to enjoy your travel? The key to a successful and fulfilling experience during your vacation, whether it's only a few days or a few weeks, is preparation. It's impossible to prepare for all the possible situations, but you can minimize the unwanted situation when you’re travelling, for example: your family get sick . Preparation is not only about things to bring, passport, money, etc but also travel health preparation such as bring medical kit, go to the doctor and do medical check-up, especially get your vaccination to several disease which we should be alert. Why? Because every country has its own endemic diseases, which is different one to another. During travelling, usually we have hectic schedule, go to some places in just a little time. As a result, our immune system could become weaker than usual. Moreover, the disease in our destination is different from our place, so we could get sick more easily. So, vaccination is the most important to do before travelling. Vaccination can prevent many illness, for example hepatitis, meningitis, rabies, measles , rubella, smallpox, etc. It’s good if we want to get a complete vaccination, but if you think it’s waste your money, then you could get only several vaccination based on where you travel. Not every country need rabies vaccination, or diphtheria vaccination. We must know first which place we go and what is the common disease in there. Be a smart traveler by know the place, know the vaccine.

PREVENT THAN REPENT Tioky Sutjonong AMSA-UA Alor is a small island located in East Nusa Tenggara well known with its diving site. Travelers are usually unaware with the condition of Alor. Alor Archipelago, near Pantar Strait, is endemic for malaria mosquitoes. Alor is also endemic with filarial. In 2005, patients of filarial reached 3,1% in a village in Alor. There is no survey done for the latest data. Before travel we have to ling there it is highly recommended to update malaria and filarial vaccination and ask about another immunization as well. Malaria and filarial mostly transmitted by mosquitoes, so we need some insect repellent or antimosquitoes. A medical checkup should be done. Especially for the heart. Because diving including many stressed on heart. Pack a medical kit. Wear sunscreen to avoid sun burnt since the climate in Alor is really hot. People usually pay less attention to their health during travelling. In the end they can only regret that they could have prevented what happened to them. Travelers should raise their awareness in health travel management and be smart traveler. Better prevent than repent.

WEAR YOUR LONG PANTS Muhammad Hafidl Hasbullah AMSA-UB As travelers, we must be aware our to safety in traveling, especially when we visiting an endemic place of malaria. Malaria is a disease that transmitted by the bite of the Anopheles mosquito that can have an impact on mortality .In the human body , the parasites multiply in the liver, and then infect red blood cells. Protecting our selves to against this disease can be done through various ways, such as use a long-sleeves clothing and long pants. For many travelers, wearing a long pants will make the uncomfortable because of the temperature of the environment. But by using trousers or long sleeves cloth, the risk of being bitten by anopheles mosquitoes will decrease. When our skin is not protected, it will be easy for mosquito to bite our skin. This action seem simple, but helpful. This poster shows two images of legs which are wear the different types of pants . The pants on the left side is wearing trousers or long pants, while the right side is wearing shorts . In this poster also show a large shadow of mosquito behind the two legs, which is symbolizes that the malaria mosquitoes can threaten anyone. Indonesia’s Hazard GANDUNG PRAKOSO, PUTRI ANGGRAENI KUSUMAWARDHANI AMSA-UPN

Indonesia has many beautiful places to visited, so both foreign and local tourists come to Indonesia. But the tourists should be careful about the risks in several tourist attractions. The risks such as Elephant attacked if they visit Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam and North Sumatra. In south Sumatra, the tourists should be careful with Dengue fever in Sumatra and Java. Besides, in Borneo, Sumatra and Maluku Island there are snakes attack. Because Indonesia has many volcanoes, the tourists should be careful in some places that have active volcanoes like North Sumatra, Yogyakarta, and East Java. In Borneo, there are many beautiful forests and swamps so the tourists should be careful with threat of crocodile and snake. In Sulawesi Island, the threats to wild boar must also be considered. Indonesia also has a high potential tectonic earthquake, so that the tourists should be careful if this threat came. Because Indonesia is a tropical country, the tourists should be careful against malaria especially in Eastern Indonesia. Not only threat from animals and disasters, but also there is threat from bacterial infection like Salmonella Thyposa and Mycobacterium Tuberculosa as we know climate in Indonesia support the microorganism to grow and reproduction. Furthermore, cars accident should be considered especially in path north of Java Island, because many large vehicles such as trucks passing the road. We can see that Indonesia has many threats for traveler. But those threats shouldn’t be scared off tourists but it is expected that they should be careful and always keep their safety.

Tip before a Meal Aditya Rifqi Fauzi, Yodi, Ahmad Muzakky AMSA-UGM Since humans began moving from one place to another, they have offered free passage to pathogens on themselves, in their belongings, or on their conveyance. Among the more notable examples are the great plagues that swept into Europe from Asia during the Middle Ages, the importation of smallpox to the Americas by European explorers, and the reverse movement of syphilis into Europe in those same returning explorers. Although the movement of pathogens through travel is not a new phenomenon, today’s increasing pace and scale of global human movement have enhanced the opportunities for disease spread. HIV infection, with symptoms that may be delayed for years, spread around the world less than a decade after it was recognized. In the 21st century, no place on the globe is more than a day from any other location, which gives even diseases with short incubation periods unprecedented opportunities for rapid spread. The following examples from the early part of this century illustrate the role travel plays in the translocation of infectious diseases. They also remind us that all travellers should take steps to prevent bringing more than luggage to their destinations. Steps even as simple as practicing good hand hygiene; have been proven to prevent disease spread. Through this poster, we want to emphasise hand washing as the primary prevention of disease spread as sadly still not many people realise the importance of hand washing. If we want to taste travel and enjoy it, it is literally – in our hands!

Sick Travelling Aditya Rifqi Fauzi, Yodi, Ahmad Muzakky AMSA-UGM Most people plan a trip only think about “do I have enough money?”, “who will I go with?” etc. but what they didn’t realize is the risk of contracting a disease while on a simple trip and becoming a vessel for pathogens to spread. Travel medicine is based on the concept of the reduction of risk. In the context of travel medicine, “risk” refers to the possibility of harm during the course of a planned trip. Some risks may be avoidable, and others may not. Through this poster we want to spread the message that all travellers should visit either their personal physician or a travel health clinic 4-8 weeks before departure in order to make sure that the “avoidable risks” will not happen.

Get Ready For Your Trip Fajar Muhammad, Desty Annisa Hapsari, Alvina CBBS AMSA-UGM Around the world, especially in Indonesia, there are millions of people going from one place to another just in a very short period of time. Nowadays, people like to travel a lot. But, as this issue is growing, there will be many problems because of it. One of them is travel health problem. Each area in Indonesia has its characteristics that the others do not have. For example, the weather in Kalimantan and Papua is difference, so each has to adjust to the others. Several health problems such as diarrhea, blisters, respiratory infections, bladder infections, tooth injuries, superficial skin infections, mosquito bites, muscle aches and pains, jet lag, and sexually transmitted diseases are listed as the most common travel health problems that many travelers have to experience. That is why, it needs awareness that travel health problem is serious and important, so we need to pay more attention to it. Or else, our traveling plan will be messed up just because one diarrhea. What could we do to make our trip more enjoyable? One thing for sure is to always be prepare. Do research of the place that you are going to, make sure you have all the things you need to stay fit during your trip, and do not forget to ask your doctor whether youare fit enough to go and things like medicine that you need to have for the trip. What to Do to Keep Body Healthy While Travelling Haidar Zain, Dhia Clarissa Putri, Novandika Kurnia Akbar AMSA-UGM We often go travelling during holidays. However, most people do not know that many diseases may haunt us during travelling. The intention of vacation is to have fun and get home safely, but it could turn to nightmare because of travel diseases we got. That is why we propose this poster to promote things that can be done to avoid illness while travelling. Firstly, avoid contact with germs. We should maintain hand hygiene by washing hands with soap or using hand sanitizer (containing at least 60% alcohol) since it is necessary to avoid the viruses and bacteria that could potentially cause disease. Secondly, we should also limit our contact with animals, especially wild animals since there are many travelrelated diseases that come from animals, such as rabies, avian influenza, and swine flu. Thirdly, not having sex with strangers is also important since they may have infectious diseases such as HIV. Fourthly, do vaccination for rabies, hepatitis, Japanese encephalitis, polio, Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR), typhoid, Diphtheria Pertussis Tetanus (DPT), and smallpox can reduce the risk of diseases attack. Fifthly, choosing a good and hygienic place to eat also decreases the risk for having diseases such as hepatitis A and typhoid. Sixthly, apply insects repellents to reduce the risk of being bitten by mosquitoes and other insects that carry diseases such as malaria or dengue fever. Get to know these get rid of disease Those are some things that may help us to prevent from being infected by diseases while travelling. We hope travellers will be able to protect themselves to stay healthy while travelling after seeing this poster. There is no harm and nothing to lose in preventing disease infection, because prevention is better than curation. It may seem simple, but many people do not do this. Know the prevention and get rid of the disease.

Take Vaccine, Get Rid of Medicine Haidar Zain, Dhia Clarissa Putri, Novandika Kurnia Akbar AMSA-UGM Diseases can get into our body whenever and wherever we are. What would happen if they attacked us when the time was not right – for example when we were travelling? Various disease cases affecting tourists are often found. In 2012, there were approximately 2605 infectious diseases reported in Western Australia. From this amount of diseases, 41 percent came from Indonesia, especially from Bali. Dengue fever was the most common disease found, with 415 reported transmission cases. This amount is equal to 80 percent of all dengue fever cases in Australia. Furthermore, salmonella gastroenteritis, HIV, hepatitis A, malaria, and typhoid also infected the tourists who travelled to Dewata Island. Also, 157 people were found in need of prophylaxis of rabies after interacting with the animals in Bali. There is not much we can do once the diseases came to us. Prevention is the best way so that we are not dealing with a variety of diseases that haunt us while travelling. One effective way we need to do before travelling is taking vaccines. Some following vaccines should be given before travelling, especially when you are about to go to Indonesia, such as Typhoid and Hepatitis A, 2 weeks before departure, Hepatitis B, 2 months before departure, Rabies, a month before departure, Influenza, every year. Also make sure that you get vaccinated for Diphtheria-tetanuspolio, Measles-umps-rubellavaricella (MMRV). We hope travellers will be able to protect themselves by taking vaccines to stay healthy while travelling after seeing this poster. Vaccine Avoid Medicine Muhammad Fathi Banna Al Faruqi, Sania Rifa Zaharadina, Ghina Khairesra AMSA-UGM There are some common traveller diseases in Indonesia. Those are hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid, rabies, cholera, tetanus, pertussis, diphtheria, measles, mumps, rubella, malaria, dengue fever, chickenpox, influenza, diarrhoea and others. Most of them can be prevented by using vaccine. Vaccination is a highly effective method of preventing certain infectious diseases. Vaccines are generally very safe and serious adverse reactions are uncommon. For travellers, vaccination offers the possibility of avoiding a number of infectious diseases that may be encountered abroad. From this poster, we hope that travellers should get vaccinated for diseases relevant with their destination country. Protecting before travelling is important because when travellers get protected it means that disease will difficult to attack them. Travellers who are free from diseases will enjoy their trip and have a safe trip. So, vaccine will avoid travellers from diseases that automatically make them do not require medicine because they are healthy.

Plan Your Plane Muhammad Fathi Banna Al Faruqi, Sania Rifa Zaharadina, Ghina Khairesra AMSA-UGM In this globalization era, long distance can be reached in the matters of hours. Many people have fun travelling across the country -for holiday, work or other activity- only by using plane. Unfortunately, travelling is not always fun. It also has some risks, one of the risk is the travellers must get ready to get in touch with diseases in their destination country. Many diseases can be brought and spread through travellers. For example in Indonesia, the diseases that can attack the travellers are hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid, rabies, cholera, tetanus, pertussis, diphtheria, measles, mumps, rubella, malaria, dengue fever, chickenpox, influenza, diarrhoea and others. Before departure, travellers should be advised about the risk of diseases in the country or countries they plan to visit and the steps that should be taken to prevent them from getting diseases. There are some ways to prevent them from common traveller diseases. Travellers should get vaccinated for diseases relevant with their destination country. Then, while they are travelling, travellers should reduce exposure to germs, prevent bug bites, keep away from animals, maintain personal security, eat and drink safely, bring medical kit, have safe transportation, avoid sharing body fluid, and know how to get medical care. Therefore the concept of this poster is that the preventive ways is placed in the plane while the diseases are left behind. It show when the traveller already do the prevention things, they don't need to get in touch with the diseases. Travellers should plan their plane so that they can stay healthy and enjoy their trip.

Check Your BAGS Priscillia Imelda AMSA-UGM The number of people travelling has been increasing for the past few years. According to United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Barometer, during 2013, tourist arrivals grew by 5%, reaching a record 1,087 million arrivals. By travelling from one place to another, people are unconsciously exposed to some pathogens or helping the pathogens to spread out. Internationally, 20-70% of people travelling have health problems and 1 of 100,000 travellers is dead every year. There are many factors that could affect people's health during their trip, such as the ages, health status, activities, duration of the trip, etc. For all these reasons, they are at risk of getting sick. As one of the world most-visited place, Indonesia becomes a relatively good place for pathogens to grow. According to the data of Kemenparekraf (Kementerian Pariwisata dan Ekonomi Kreatif Indonesia), the sum of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia in period from January to October 2013 is about 7 million people. Based on CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) Health Information, the common traveller diseases in Indonesia are malaria, diarrhoea, influenza, cholera, hepatitis A, typhoid, rabies, yellow fever, and measles. The most popular are malaria (84%), diarrhoea (71%), and typhoid (53%). (Streit, 2012) In 2007, WHO reported the highest morbidity of traveller is caused by infectious agents. Airborne transmission disease, especially SARS and avian influenza also spreads rapidly. In 2005-2012, there were 158 deaths from 191 cases. To face all of these diseases, there are many things to be prepared. But the lack of awareness and preparation become a major cause of people's sickness during the trip. Therefore, in this poster, we suggest easy ways to get yourself prepared and keep your body healthy during trips. So, before you go, check your BAGS (Bring mask, always washing hand, get vaccines, stock some medicines).

Extra Ticket? No, Thank You Rahma Herviastuti AMSA-UGM For a traveler to get disease in their destination is a common problem that always occurs throughout the world. But since it is so common, it doesn’t mean that it should be underestimated. A fatal disease, that this public poster uses for example, is Malaria. Malaria, though is indeed endemic in Indonesia, but its endemicity is different by province. Malaria is a highly occurring disease on Papua, NTT, Maluku, Bangka Belitung, Bengkulu, Gorontalo, Sulawesi Utara, Kalimantan Timur, and NTB. This disease, caused by Plasmodium and transmitted by an infected female Anopheles mosquito, infects hepatocyte and then erythrocyte, destroying them, and if severe, producing hemolytic anemia and jaundice, which are worsened by phagocytosis of infected erythrocyte in the spleen. Malaria is particularly dangerous in children under 5 years, pregnant women, and previously unexposed visitors. This public poster symbolizes the high possibility to get infected by Malaria if travelers go unprotected. The first sentence is meant to ask travelers about their preparation. An extra/more tickets do sounds fun, but the sentence ask travelers to think again. Unfortunately, the “extra ticket” turns out that it is not another pleasure ticket for holiday, but it is a ticket to hospital, depicting as if they will certainly get infected if they go unprotected to a province which has high endemicity of Malaria. The last sentence emphasizes that one of the way to avoid the unlucky extra ticket is to contact doctors before leaving. Doctors can give informations about the disease, ways to prevent mosquito bites, and even give travelers antimalaria drugs. A holiday should be fun, so let’s make it fun by doing necessary preparations.

Untitled El-Nissi and Jefryanto AMSA-Ukrida Ultimate Diversity. Those two words picture Indonesia perfectly. Diverse in culture, flora and fauna, and people makes Indonesia a great place to travel. Absolutely, all the beauty of Indonesia can’t be experienced without a healthy body. There’s a few of endemic diseases that could ruin your holiday in Indonesia and on the top of them is Tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is an airbone bacterial infection caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis which responsible for most cases. Tuberculosis symptoms mainly characterized by fever, loss of appetite, weight loss, night sweats and tiredness. Respiratory tuberculosis could cause persistent, productive cough and may be accompanied by blood-streaked sputum. Proper prevention is needed to prevent the disease. Mycobacterium Tuberculosis can be spread from person to person in tiny microscopic droplets when an active Tuberculosis sufferer cough, sneezes, speaks, sings, or even laughs. The primary prevention to tuberculosis is avoid closecontact or extended time with a tuberculosis sufferer. This is especially important if you will be in a crowded environment, such as a hospital, prison, or homeless shelter. At a glance, whether person is infected by tuberculosis or not is hard to tell. So, just simply try to avoid close contact with people who are coughing and look sick. In addition, always wearing a mask especially in open space with a large mass passed by. There is also a vaccine that can be considered to be taken by children under 5 years old named BCG. This big message is poured out to our poster. Untitled SRI SARI ARIYANTI AMSA-Unjani Malaria is a parasitic infection spread by Anopheles mosquitoes. The Plasmodium parasite that causes malaria it’s a single-celled parasite that multiplies in red blood cells of humans as well as in the mosquito intestine. When the female mosquito feeds on an infected person, male and female forms of the parasite are ingested from human blood. Subsequently, the male and female forms of the parasite meet and mate in the mosquito gut, and the infective forms are passed into another human when the mosquito feeds again. Malaria is a significant global problem. There are approximately 216 million cases of the disease worldwide, killing about 655,000 people every year. Malaria is prevalent in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Central South America, Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic), and Oceania (Papua New Guinea, Irian Jaya, and the Solomon Islands). The mosquitoes that carry Plasmodium parasite get it from biting a person or animal that's already been infected. The parasite then goes through various changes that enable it to infect the next creature the mosquito bites. It then enters the bloodstream and invades red blood cells. Eventually, the infected red blood cells burst. This sends the parasites throughout the body and causes symptoms of malaria. Symptoms usually appear about 12 to 14 days after infection. People with malaria have the following symptoms : abdominal pain, chills and sweats, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting (these symptoms only appear sometimes), headache, high fevers, low blood pressure causing dizziness if moving from a lying or sitting position to a standing position (also called orthostatic hypotension), muscle aches, poor appetite. RISK FACTORS ARE AROUND YOU, TRAVELERS! Be prepared, and have a pleasant trip! Isthi Dyah Pangesti & Jeffrey Chandra AMSA-Usakti Sanitation is one of many issues which is still a concern in most developing countries, including Indonesia. The most visible impact of this issue is health problem. For local and foreign travelers still need to pay attention to this issue, so they can well-prepared. In Indonesia, a lot of food, drinks or snacks are unique in their respective areas, which certainly is an attraction in addition to diverse cultures. Here, the key role that each of travelers choosing what to eat or drink is so important. Consuming foods and beverages that are not hygiene generally cause diarrhea, with possible presence or absence of fever. This situation is dangerous if not handled appropriately. First aid is immediately given mixture water intake of sugar and salt called ‘Oralit’ which general known as oral rehydration solution (ORS). Oralit is widely used by Indonesian people and quite successful in preventing dehydration. If not managed with oral rehydration salts or drugs, it is advisable immediately to hospital for advance aid. To prevent the above situation, you should do the following steps before travel. Having pretravel consultation with your doctor and search as much information about the area that will be visited, whether if there is an outbreak of diseases, typical diseases, and the things that need to be considered. If all had been prepared, apply the obtained information during traveling. Simple ways to prevent diarrhea is needed, such as drink sealed bottled water, eat food that is cooked, avoid buying food in a dirty place, stay away from foods of vector (flies), and wash your hands often especially after using bathroom and before eating. Untittled Thong Felicia Melinda, Felicia AMSA-UI Traveling always be a nice thing to everyone, but it could be totally contrast if exposed to travel disease. Indonesia, the developing country in Asia with a natural beauty, is having about 750.000 people come visit every month. Along with an increase in the number of visitors every year, the prevalence of the travellers disease is also increasing, one of them is typhoid fever. There are more than 22 million cases of typhoid fever in the world with 200,000 cases of them end up with death. High numbers of patients indicate lack of awareness of visitors against his health during travel. But in fact this is a preventable disease. One of the ways of prevention is to give the vaccine before traveling, but it is still rarely done. This problem that led us to make this poster shows one effort that can be done to prevent the occurrence of traveller disease, by performing the vaccination. This poster was created to increase public awareness of the importance of physical endurance that must be made before going to other countries. Vaccination is one of the easiest and safest way to gain a physical endurance before going to other countries. During this time, people often forget the action of preparation and prevention of illness when traveling. Before traveling out of the country, it is better to do a pre-travel consultation and know the epidemiology of diseases that exist in the country of destination. In addition, it is necessary to prepare emergency medicines may be needed if exposed by a disease which is inevitable. But the most important action that needs to be done is the prevention of the exposure of the disease, because preventing is better than cure and the most effective and easiest prevention that can be done is by vaccination. keyword: traveling, travellers disease, typhoid fever, vaccination, Indonesia, prevention

“Prevention Protects You” Kamayana JAS, Cheng W, Setiabakti NMS AMSA-UI Majority of people will underestimate the importance of health precautions during holidays. However, the fact is that prevention is a fundamental key to have a delightful vacation. The word prevention here includes vaccination, medication, health insurance, self hygiene, clean food, and a good night sleep. “Set Your Priority Right” Cheng W, Kamayana JAS, Setiabakti NM AMSA-UI Planning a trip is one of the most fundamental travelling recommendations according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In the midst of planning a trip, people tend to get caught up with the exciting travel itinerary, such as the sophisticated places, exotic food, cultural activities, and tend to unintentionally leave out the most vital aspect: health preparations. Some of these health preparations include vaccinations, travel insurance, and health policy in the particular destination. Many countries require travelers to show proof of vaccination before visiting which means early preparation is needed. Also, health practitioners would gladly give information on specific medications that needs to be prepared prior to travelling. Raising awareness to include health preparation as one of the important elements in travelling itinerary should be done. Therefore, travelers should always set their priority right, that is, their health comes first before everything else!

In order to be able to really enjoy travelling, regardless of it being overseas or in the country, travellers must be aware of the many essential health preparations. Different countries specifically implement travel laws and travel warnings, which are easily accessible through governmental websites. These travel warnings give future travellers insight on local travel diseases and ways to prevent them. For example in Indonesia, it is recommended for all travellers to get Hepatitis A and Typhoid vaccine. By planning the appropriate vaccination needed, travellers can take a step forward to ensure their well-being during and after the trip. One of the research in China about imported falciparum Malaria shows that comprehensive prevention and control system had remarkable achievement in reducing the prevalence among travellers and successful rate of disease management. The purpose of putting extra efforts in preventing travel diseases would benefit not only the travellers themselves, but also the people in their home countries because some travel diseases may be communicable. TYPHOID FEVER "Less Litter, Less Typhi. Keep it Clean, Keep it Healthy" Michael Sie Shun Ling and Santika Henny AMSA-UAJ The prevalence of people got infected with typhoid fever in Indonesia increased by 3.26%, with the mortality rate varies from 3.1 to 10.4% among hospitalized patient throughout the year (DepKes, 2007). Because how easily it spreads, People especially travellers can easily get infected and typhoid fever becomes one of the top 10 in Indonesia's travel medicine. Salmonella typhi is easier to contaminate foods and people with bad hygiene and bad immune condition, considering Indonesia is lacking of good sanitary system and has lots of street vendors and unique culinary. With this problem, we come up with a good solution to prevent typhoid fever with the idea of SEHAT (means Healthy in Indonesian), which is an acronym for Super immune, Eat healthy, Hands are clean, Aqua on the go, and Trash wisely. With SEHAT, we invite you to get yourself vaccinated, eat healthy foods, maintain good hygiene, drink from bottled water and implement the no littering policy. If you think you may have typhoid fever, immediately consult to a doctor and get your antibiotic before it got worse. Though the symptoms are gone, typhoid fever can still easily spread so it's very important to always maintain a good hygiene and avoid contact with foods especially for travellers to prevent the spread in their country or hometown. The slogan: “Less Litter, Less Typhi. Keep it Clean, Keep it Healthy" invites locals and travellers to help reduce the prevalence of typhoid fever in Indonesia by simply stop littering and be more aware of hygiene. With this slogan, we hope that travellers and locals can enjoy Indonesia healthily

2nd Winner Video_001 Travel with comfortable, prepare yourself! Amelia Victoria Tamsil, Narisha Smaradhantia, Aulia Giffarinnisa AMSA-Unhas This is a video with the theme of travel medicine, with our main focus is Typhoid Fever in Indonesia. In this video, we divide it into 3 parts. The first part of the video is an explanation of the background, in this case our country Indonesia. Including health care and disease that often attacks the tourist who comes to Indonesia. The second part of our video are the symptoms which may arise when the person is exposed to typhoid fever. And the last part of the video, we are trying to portray the audience about what steps we can do to prevent ourselves from typhoid fever while on vacation. In this section, we are trying to offer solutions that we split into 3 parts, pre-travel, on travel, and posttravel. Indonesia is one of the Typhoid Fever endemic countries. There are 900 thousand cases of Typhoid Fever in one year, with more than 20 thousand deaths due to Typhoid Fever in Indonesia. If we are talking about world, then every year there are 17 million cases of Typhoid Fever, 600.000 amongst them led to death. The bad hygiene of the eating place, the cooks, and the way they make foods is an open door for bacteria and virus to infect people so that they can have Typhoid fever. The main reason we choose this topic is because we think that this issue is urgent but nobody really realize about it. The message that we are trying to spread through our video is to open people’s eyes that this is the reality that is happening right now. The reality that may cause harm not only for us, but also for people that come and visit Indonesia. We are trying to raise more awareness to the people to pay more attention before, during and after they go to travelling. By paying more attention to those issues, we believe we can prevent Typhoid Fever in the tourists that visit Indonesia which brings more comfort to them and giving a better image of a healthy Indonesia.

Video_006 Change Infected Human Outcome to Choose Ending of Tuberculosis Moh.Iqbal Mubarakh, Chici Endah Purnamasari & Fahreza Fajar Muharam AMSA- Halu Oleo University TB is an infectious disease caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis and usually transmitted through the air. Infected people with TB bacteria can infect 10-15 others people through close contact during the year and will cause symptoms such as cough, fever, sweating at night, weight loss etc. Without right treatment 2/3 of people with TB will die. If someone dies due to TB, then he/she would lose his income about 15 years and can be removed from society. This video shows us how to avoid infection of TB, especially for tourists who will travel to areas or countries where TB is endemic. Early preparations like have a consultation with doctor or vaccination prior to travel for those who have never had a BCG vaccination. Another simple thing to do: eat nutritious foods, regular exercise, not smoking, wash hands with soap, do not stayed up all night and always wear a mask when in a crowd place. When person get TB infected, the first thing to be noted is keeping the bacteria by themselves. It usually takes several weeks before treatment with TB drugs are not contagious anymore. When patients stop treatment early, TB bacteria have a chance to develop mutations that allow them to survive even if we given the most powerful anti-TB drugs though. Drug-resistant strains produced much more deadly and difficult to treat. According to that, we want everyone to understand and realize that it is very important to prevent the TB infection before having to suffer and forced to run a series of treatments that take a very long time and demanding patient compliance. Just like the saying goes, it's better to prevent than treat. Simple words yet highly affect our lives. So, prevent with simply or treat with difficulty? It’s your choice.

Video_009 THE PREVENTIVE ACTION OF MALARIA FOR TRAVELERS Claresta, Olivia Nathania Hartono, Theresia Lourdestiningrum AMSA-UAJ Bangka is an island located in the east of Sumatera, Indonesia, with a population of about 1 million inhabitants. Bangka is famous for its beautiful beaches such as Parai, Matras, and Tanjung Pesona. People are also looking for its delicious food like ‘bakmie bangka’, roasted pork, and ‘sambel tauco’. Those things make Bangka as one of the most favourite tourists' destination. Bangka's climate and geography made it more prone to mosquito-borne diseases such as malaria. Annual Parasites Incidence (API) of malaria in Bangka is 7.9 per 100,000 inhabitants. This corresponding number indicates Bangka as one of the endemic areas of malaria in Indonesia. Malaria is a mosquito-borne disease transmitted via the bites of female anopheles infected by a parasite called Plasmodium. In human body the parasites multiply in the liver, and infect red blood cells causing symptoms such as fever of 38ºC (100.4ºF) or above, vomiting, headaches, and diarrhea. In some cases, severe malaria can progress rapidly and cause death within hours or days without proper treatment. Based on the facts above, we decide to encourage travelers to do some preventive actions before going to Bangka island, for example, obtaining a Malaria vaccine before departure to Bangka, drink anti-malaria tablet, use mosquito repellent and wearing long-sleeved clothing at night. Malaria vaccine, also known as Mosquirix, is a combination of outer protein of plasmodium falciparum malaria parasite, a portion of hepatitis B virus, and a chemical adjuvant to boost the immune system response. This kind of vaccine is usually available at the nearest clinic or hospital. Anti-malaria tablets containing chloroquine, proguanil, mefloquine or doxycycline. Most of them are taken one day before travel, during vacation, and 4 weeks after returning. Since the female anopheles is nocturnal, repellent and long-sleeved clothing are suggested to be used at night.

1st Winner Speech_003 Pre-travel Consultation: Prevention that Goes a Long Way Emily Gunawan AMSA-UA The issue of travel medicine which incorporates pre-travel consultation is gaining importance especially in our world of increasing interconnectedness. Pre-travel consultation includes reminding the risks that one would be exposed to in his travel destination and also managing them through three steps: immunizations, medications and education. In Indonesia, pre-travel consultation is compulsary for people going for “Naik Haji” (pilgrimage to Mecca for Muslims) and there are also vaccinations available for travelers but complete pre-travel consultations are not really practiced. The importance of pre-travel consultation should be emphasized because its significance actually lies in disease prevention. With globalization and advances in technology, there is an increase in travelling and travelling facilitates the spread of diseases. Furthermore, preventing the spread of diseases goes a long way. It is not just to protect ourselves but to also protect our country. Perhaps some may disagree with the significance of pre-travel consultation and feel there is no need for pre-travel consultation. However, the highly personalized nature of pre-travel consultation is very special and cannot be replaced by any other means. As the famous saying goes, “Prevention is Better than Cure”, pre-travel consultation as a preventive measure should be encouraged for travelers and should gradually be integrated into our lifestyle.

The numerous amount of traveling related diseases occurring all around the world has been one of the most worrying aspects that haunts every travelers during their holiday trip. Speech_002 Movies for Education and Prevention of Travellers Disease Adi Nugroho Harlianto AMSA-UI Travellers Disease have been a burden to travellers all over the world. Inflicting most disastrous effect on most vulnerable (non-immune) party. The intricacy of resolving this problems lies on the vast majority of travellers disease that requires equivocally vast range of prophylaxis, from vaccine to lifestyle. Hard and tedious work is required to prepare people towards travellers disease, especially in those who are not aware of the dangers of travellers disease (malaria, dengue fever, rabies, etc). Eventually, those people will underlook the prophylaxis treatment and took the more burden to the disease compared to endemic people. Both in the aspect of treatment, economy, and ultimately distribution of the disease. Facing these problems, there are a few solutions that, we hope, can tackle it. However, the fastest, untedious, impactful, and effective solution is education. Education may take quite a time to “plant” the knowledge of travellers disease, but the effect does not reach out to the person, but it can last long, increase the awareness, applicable to many travellers disease, plus it can affect society on generale. The question now is, “How do we give it?” The challange is to very comprehensive, impacting, interesting, and does not decrease promotional value of the designated place. The education should be interesting in “cool to know” and “slightly frightening” way. One great example is Animal Planet® program on Discovery Channel® channel. On tarantula program, the viewers are introduced to the beauty of nature, but on the same way, the dangers of tarantula. By promoting this video on travellers own regional government or travel agents, we intend to fight travellers disease in an effective, fun, and creative way.
