LIGHTS, CAMERA, AGENTS! Filming of ASTA’s TravelSense series will be taking place during ADE.

TravelSense is a lifestyle program providing insights into how travel agents serve as ‘experience curators’ of amazing, authentic experiences. The series aims to give meaningful insight into: • A firsthand account revealing and experiencing how ASTA agents go about sourcing the practical tips and information consumers need to know about Kenya. • How ASTA engages with travel destinations, to bring the very best insights and experiences back to consumers.

EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS THE CRADLE OF MANKIND Kenya’s rich pre-historic heritage not only tells the story of man’s origin and evolution, but also has contributed to the understanding of the earth’s history. Several thousand fossils and artifacts spanning over 27 million years have been discovered in Kenya. Kenya is truly the cradle of mankind; evidence of man’s earliest settlement was found in Koobi fora in northern Kenya. In 1984, a team of archeologists discovered the bones of the world famous “Turkana Boy” near Lake Turkana. Dated 1.6 million years old, “Turkana Boy” is the most complete prehistoric human skeleton ever found. Lake Turkana is the renowned site of the discovery of Homo habilis among other extensive paleontological finds. In 2012, the skeleton of the “Turkana Boy” was exhibited in an art and cultural show in Florence, Italy. This session will give you insight into the origin of mankind through the evidence which has been collected, preserved, studied and documented Kenya’s past and present heritage.

THE CULTURE OF KENYA Every year thousands of tourists come to Kenya not only to see the wildlife but to experience Kenya’s unique culture. Kenya culture is a fascinating way of life that blends the traditions of thousands of years of African social evolution with the modern influences of

the 20th century. The multifaceted culture of Kenya is expressed in different forms, ranging from its people and language, food, music and dance, art, artifacts, theatre and literature to its ethnic values and ethical norms. Combined with other traditions, these forms of expression and lifestyle form an identity that is uniquely Kenyan. The Kenyan population is comprised of 42 tribes each with its own unique dialect. As Kenya’s national languages, Swahili and English bridge the communication gap and unite Kenyans as a single nation. The knowledge of Kenya’s culture will be a great selling point which will entice your clients to visit the Country.

SELLING DESTINATION KENYA Kenya is known for its safaris, rich culture, diverse climate and geography, and expansive wildlife reserves and national parks. This session will focus on the geography, culture, essential sites and attractions, travel tips and sample itineraries that will help you create memorable trips for your clients. A panel of tour operators will take you through the session and will be there to answer your questions.
