Lindsay innovations at the double L

indsay is highlighting two main innovations: the new RoadConnect platform and the company’s globally successful Road Zipper moveable barrier technology. The RoadConnect platform, being shown here for the first time, gives users the ability to remotely monitor and manage key road and highway assets such as crash cushions, light poles, bridge structures, and more. It can help to increase the speed and reliability of roadside maintenance and save time and money while also improving road safety. RoadConnect offers a variety of roadside asset management solutions, including ImpactAlert, providing remote impact

detection, so users will know right away when an asset has been impacted. The Light Guard Pulse lighting system monitoring and control module is also incorporated, enabling remote control of lighting schedules for energy savings and uniformity while also helping decrease labour costs associated with repairs. Meanwhile, the success of Road Zipper continues. It is the innovative solution for both permanent and temporary applications to deliver proven, positive protection of motorists, pedestrians, cyclists, and road workers, as well as improving traffic flow and mitigating congestion. In Europe alone, Lindsay has implemented more

than 15 projects in recent years in the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Italy. LIVE NEWS FROM THE SHOW

Parifex shows the power of Nano-Cam sensor P

arifex, a leading solution provider in project management for speed enforcement and smart cities, is highlighting the Nano-Cam sensor, an innovative detection tool designed to improve road safety and traffic counting. It can collect data and detect speed infringement in multiple situations. Parifex describes it as a tailor-made traffic management solution The Nano-Cam is available with or without a camera, depending on customer needs. This cutting-edge sensor monitors the 360o environment and gets simultaneously different traffic information such as speed, vehicle classification, tailgating, dimensions, direction, and counting. The urban version can detect infringements such as using a mobile phone while driving, no seat belt, running a red light or a stop sign, and automatic number-plate recognition. A reliable tool for speeding violations, the Nano-Cam provides precise vehicle classification and accurate vehicle detection of speeding violations, even on busy, fastpaced roads. It can provide

simultaneous discrimination of multiple targets, speed measurement, vehicle tracking even if in lane change, in all weather conditions. Parifex says the Nano-Cam has been designed for smart mobility applications: vehicle

counting, flow management (origin destination matrix), autonomous vehicles, risk detection (such as obstacle, vehicle,) parking, lighting, and truck control. Connected to automated street lighting, the device can control lighting level

depending on factors such as traffic or weather conditions. When used in car parks, the Nano-Cam can provide automatic updating on parking availability. ▶Stand 05.319 www.parifex.com

KITRAFFIC WEIGHS INTO ACCURACY QUESTION Making its debut at Intertraffic 2022, the KiTraffic Digital Weigh in Motion (WiM) system from Kistler has been awarded the OIML R134 certificate by the widely-recognised Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (Metas). Kistler's system consists of multiple rows of sensor strips based on digitalised Lineas WiM sensors equipped with piezoelectric quartz crystals that are built into the road surface. It calculates the wheel, axle and total weight of each vehicle, and the digital platform's open interfaces mean it can be integrated with other components. The system reaches F5 - the highest

accuracy class of vehicle weight measurement - which indicates a maximum permissible error of +/- 2.5%. At that level it requires three or four successive sensor rows to be integrated into the road surface (for F10 it only takes two rows). Kistler says its solution "opens up new possibilities to automatically detect and fine overloaded vehicles". It is possible to first install two sensor rows for statistical or preselection purposes, and upgrade to direct enforcement with one or two additional sensor rows later, the company adds. The system was certified for

axle loads from 1-20 tonnes, with unlimited GVW, and certified speed ranges of 10-100 km/h for heavy trucks, and up to 130 km/h for light vehicles and vans. Kistler says the system is reliable even when vehicles cross the individual sensors in a diagonal direction - for example when overtaking other trucks. The new sensor design allows the system to provide information on different tyre types and their condition, automatically recording this data to provide an accurate basis for law enforcement and increasing traffic safety.

Improving safety and mobility with cloud artificial intelligence and automated vehicles Two collaborative projects were initiated by the Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA) in California to harness artificial intelligence (AI), cloud edge computation, and automated vehicles for improving mobility and safety along corridors and intersections. Panellists from the CCTA, Nissan, Amazon AWS and Davteq will discuss their roles, perspectives, and solutions in these two projects. The first project aims to alleviate stop-and-go phantom traffic jam waves while the second project is part of a county-wide initiative to improve safety and throughput at intersections.

Fit-for-55 - preparing for European climate and energy legislation Last year, as part of the Green Deal, the European Commission presented many legislative proposals to achieve a 55% CO2 reduction by 2030, the so-called 'Fit-for-55' package. Major changes are also coming for the mobility sector, for example the introduction of an Emission Trading System (ETS) for road transport, stricter CO2 standards for passenger cars and freight traffic, and new obligations for refuelling and charging infrastructure. This session will go deeper into the content of these proposals, their meaning for companies and consumers, and the decision-making process in The Hague and Brussels. There will also be plenty of room for questions!

Commoditisation of the sidewalk - the last free public space The public spaces of a modern city are highly priced , except for one - the sidewalk. Many industries, such as electric scooters and instant bike deliveries, are growing quickly and becoming a natural part of many cities' daily life. This also means that they are also competing for this space. How can cities handle this surge in demand for a limited public space? And how do they do it without stifling innovation? This is a discussion about the future of mobility.

Societal impact of smart mobility in Dutch cities Rather than focusing on technological possibilities, in this session the audience will be shown how the Netherlands takes citizens' needs as a starting point for designing smart mobility services. Concrete examples of public-private collaborations that create useful and positive applications for our society will be showcased.

Local Traffic Safety Analyser The German Aerospace Centre (DLR) and Vitronic have jointly launched the Local Traffic Safety Analyser (LTSA) research project. It generates and combines data from vulnerable road users (VRUs) and from normal car traffic with a new hardware and software setup. The objectives are to optimise traffic flow of intersections using Vital (Vehicle-Actuated Intelligent Traffic Signal Control) software, from DLR, and to further improve protection systems for vulnerable road users from Vitronic. During this session, the results of two research beds that have been installed in the city of Potsdam will be presented.

▶11:45 - 12:30

THEATRE 1 Road Monitor: extra eyes on the road - vehicle data for road safety, asset management and winter management Road Monitor is an innovative project that introduces road authorities in the Netherlands to vehicle information. Using data for the purpose of smart asset management works: it has already been successfully tested in various small pilot projects at municipalities, provinces and Rijkswaterstaat. Vehicle information can also provide insight into 'near crashes' and ADAS. The challenge now is to harness and scale up its potential. Exchanging knowledge and experiences regarding the added value of this information is key. Join this session and take the next step towards even more efficient and smart road management.

▶12:30 - 13:00

▶12:45 - 13:15

THEATRE 1 Nudging to increase road safety in the urban area Nudging is a method that can be used to influence people’s safety behaviour by making small changes in the environment. People are stimulated on another level that potentially results in safer behaviour. This session will explain how to apply these nudging principles with a practical example that is proven to increase road safety. This nudge enhances our safety behaviour naturally because it connects to our ways of perceiving and processing information.

▶13:15 - 13:45

THEATRE 2 The future of parking and its ecosystem From a single use parking location to a complete ecosystem for the area around your assets, this session will provide a full overview of all stakeholders in an optimised parking ecosystem.

OPEN STAGE Coding the Curbs: the power of multiple use of space "Who owns the air?" With this seemingly simple question Coding the Curbs began. With the bookable parking space as a product, this is the first step towards more digital control and accessibility to the city. Based on concrete use cases, this presentation will take the audience along the journey of achieving this type of innovation. What is the government's role? How do you work together with private parties? These are concrete questions that will be considered.

8

▶13:15 - 14:15

OPEN STAGE Traffic management of the future: mainstreaming smart new mobility services? The integration of public transport, walking and cycling with new data driven on demand and shared mobility concepts is the future of urban mobility - which is easier said than done. A wide range of stakeholders such as industry, start-ups, governments, researchers, and citizens need to work on this in a process of learning by doing. There have been successful projects and pilots but we’re now aiming at mainstreaming and creating a new normal. This presentation will look at a range of factors that need to be addressed.

▶13:30 - 14:15

THEATRE 3 C-ITS: safe - sustainable – managed C-ITS enables co-operation between ITS subsystems, but how do you ensure that privacy is guaranteed, and that confidential information can be shared in a secure, neutral way? Free communication is a precondition for a highly developed society, but 'free' is only possible if the preconditions - security, confidentiality, sovereignty - are met. How to realise this? As attendees will hear, that's what makes the future of C-ITS tick. And it’s called: 'Federated Information Sharing'.

▶14:00 - 14:30

THEATRE 2 Parking as a Service: helping cities optimise parking eco system Digitalising parking data offers considerable benefits to the city. This presentation will show how EasyPark’s Parking Data as a Service (PDaaS) can help cities optimise their parking ecosystem!

▶14:15 - 15:15

THEATRE 1 Safer mobility with artificial intelligence AI algorithms can supplement human-led analysis in evaluating road traffic injury risk and provide valuable support to the work of traffic engineers in the field. In many cases by putting to use road asset and traffic data which they already have access to. This session will explore how AI applications can be leveraged to produce effective ‘heat maps’ of road risk, with a particular focus on pedestrians and other vulnerable road users.

MG SQUARED NETS A WORLD CUP WINNER T

he 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament, taking place in Qatar from 21 November to 18 December, has already produced a winner, as visitors to the MG Squared stand here at Intertraffic will see. For almost a decade, in preparation for the event, Ashghal, Qatar’s public works authority, has been diligently improving and constructing one of the world’s most advanced intelligent transport networks, providing an efficient, maintainable and safe system of roads and highways. Since 2014, Ashgal has installed over 600 of MG Squared’s CAT6 Camera Lowering Devices as they strive to apply best practices in intelligent roadway design, technology and management. As Martin Maners, MG Squared’s General Counsel, points out, the company pioneered the deployment of the first camera lowering device in 1997. “Now, the Mil-Grade Ethernet version from MG Squared enables Ashgal to quickly and efficiently maintain all of their roadway cameras from ground level without the need of a bucket truck or associated lane closure. This keeps traffic flowing and enhances safety to both technicians and road users alike.” According to Dr Eng Saad bin Ahmad Al

Muhannadi, President of Ashgal, “we truly believe that Qatar deserves the best and this is not just a slogan for us, it is a conviction, a way of life, and a constant motivation for world-class excellence and quality.” As visitors to the MG Squared stand

Efkon and Strabag: It’s good to talk Communications specialists Efkon and Strabag Infrastructure & Safety Solutions are sharing a stand at Intertraffic. Efkon is presenting a DSRC on-board unit which integrates ‘seamlessly and elegantly’ into the vehicle rather than being mounted behind the windshield. For use in free-flow tolling, the firm says the communication electronics is connected to a control unit in the vehicle’s interior via a standardised cable harness. As well as a display it has a slot for contactless payment cards (NFC). As drivers go through a toll station, the due amount is debited and displayed and an acoustic signal informs the driver.

Meanwhile, Strabag is presenting a new health & safety system, which is already being used by Arge U2 and Strabag, Inc for the extension of the underground railway network in Vienna and Toronto. It covers various applications such as positioning and access control. In case of accident or fire, the company’s tunnel radio system – currently used in Austria’s Tauern and Plabutsch tunnels and in two tunnels on Israel’s Road 16 - provides constant, interference-free, lifeand-death communication between emergency teams and the external mission control centre. ▶Stand 05.450 www.efkon.com www.strabag-iss.com

Eunomia aids policing effort Eunomia Traffic is a fully automated in-car system that provides significant assistance to the police and improves traffic safety. When installed in police cars, it records all traffic events in 360°-mode and detects speed in motion, providing accurate and instant capability with police databases. Recorded offences are immediately catalogued in a register to facilitate searches both at the scene of the event and at postprocessing. In addition to searching for data on a specific vehicle, Eunomia Traffic provides simultaneous speed control in front of and behind the patrol car, as well as for vehicles approaching or moving away from the patrol car. The video is synchronised with the data of the built-in speed radars. All these actions are automatically combined with the detection of the licence plate of the particular vehicle and the acquisition of data about the vehicle. Another innovation is synchronisation of the system with all the other equipment of the patrol car – cameras, database, traffic register and more.

LIVE NEWS FROM THE SHOW

Yannick Maurice of AEye

AEye sets sights on lidar solutions A

Eye, a global leader in adaptive, highperformance lidar solutions, is showcasing its 4Sight M Adaptive Lidar and demonstrating live pedestrian tracking. Visitors can find AEye in three locations here at Intertraffic. At the company’s own stand (5.424) there will be demonstrations and experts are on hand to discuss the capabilities of the company’s 4Sight M

high-performance, softwareconfigurable adaptive lidar for safer autonomous industrial and mobility applications. At the Seoul Robotics stand (5.466) visitors will be able to see, via live demos, how AEye’s 4Sight M integrates with Seoul Robotics’ perception software to deliver a complete solution for long-range object detection. The result is best-in-class 3D perception for vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians at distances beyond 300 metres.

PRAGUE GOES GREEN

Meanwhile, the Intetra stand (1.304) will demonstrate how the advanced feedback loops and optimised scan patterns of AEye’s 4Sight M lidar enable high resolution detection in tolling areas, regardless of vehicle type, speed, traffic flow, light, or weather conditions. As AEye points out, with CASE (Connected, Autonomous, Shared, Electric) driving the need for smarter traffic infrastructure, existing camera-

powered traffic systems collecting rudimentary data are no longer sufficient. Lidar can detect in all weather and lighting conditions, and provide accurate, reliable 3D data at longer ranges than camera alternatives, helping authorities respond faster, reduce the cost of operations, predict conditions and be more preventative with safety measures. ▶Stand 05.466 www.aeye.ai

In this case the client has chosen to use their own superior application that contains user GUI, graphical user interface. This application is accessing Green Center’s API - application programming interface - that communicates with individual peripherals installed in the kiosks. The project is to be launched this spring. Green Center also has developed two other modes of operation for the payment kiosks, one of them connected with payment of parking fees – more about this can be heard at the company’s stand.

France-headquartered Technima, a leading aerosol marking paint specialist, has launched what the company claims is an industry first – The Soppec Driver trolley. The first system on the market that switches instantly from aerosol paint to adhesive tape marking application, the trolley secures a straight line on all grounds, both inside and out. The Tracing Pro paint is highly visible and the most resistant to dust and clogging. The innovative conversion kit turns the Driver into a professional tape applicator for all types of linerless tapes. Technima is also highlighting a range of other innovative solutions. These include aerosol markers and accessories to meet demanding marking requirements on different surfaces, such as logistics warehouses with intense truck traffic, cycle lanes, car parks , as well as construction works or grass sports fields.

og can reduce drivers’ visibility to nearly nothing. However, if the Sernis SR-SDSFog system, nominated for an Intertraffic Green Globe Award, is activated in foggy situations, it uses LEDs for guidance and also to warn of the presence of another vehicle in front. Each smart detector beacon has two powerful LED lights that can show amber and red, with brightness control, for guidance. There is also a set of a dedicated radar sensors, and local processing units. Vehicles are detected in real time so drivers can be warned of traffic in front of them, even with limited visibility conditions. All units are connected in a network by RS485 communication protocol, where it is possible to communicate individually with each set of the smart detector beacons to monitor and control several internal parameters. Smart detector beacons are installed on a post about every 50 metres, on each side of the road, and the system works in four modes. Under normal conditions, all lighting devices remain off.

In guidance mode, when there is low-level fog, the lower amber beacon will light up to mark the road delineation section, indicating to the driver the route of the motorway in safe conditions. Detection mode is activated

in critical fog. The lower amber beacon lights to provide guidance but when a vehicle passes through a section, the red section of lighting is activated until it passes through the zone. A vehicle travels on the road, two sections – about 100 metres – of

devices themselves, since in all the products in the range it is possible to apply or remove the wood from the Corten steel structure, without "scratching" in the slightest, for this reason, the safety, durability and design characteristics of the various solutions (all tested in both configurations). Another textbook example is GuardLED. A highly innovative lighting-protection device for guardrails that from 2020 ensure double safety: active thanks to the lighting and passive thanks to the polyurethane

cladding, plus a double, indeed multiple environmental protection. In fact, installing it means avoiding invasive constructive solutions, focusing on a totally recyclable product and turning on a totally eco-friendly light, as it is conveyed by LEDs but also and above all because it is radiated from below, only on the road surface ahead, thus avoiding any form of light pollution.

barrier that can slash vehicle pollution in half! It sounds too fantastic to be true. SmogStop is a “smog-eating” highway noise wall technology, aimed at removing traffic pollution from vehicles. It’s been tested on highways in Toronto and the UK and as visitors to Intertraffic can learn, this barrier, an Innovation Award finalist, can reduce overall air pollution, NOx and PM’s by some 50%. The SmogStop Barrier, presented by Gramm Barrier Systems, features a double-

walled design with an angled baffle to direct traffic emissions between two wall segments where a photocatalytic coating breaks down pollutants. The wall also generates air vortices and enhances vertical mixing of emissions with cleaner air, further decreasing pollution levels. The Ontario Ministry of Transportation installed a 6.5-metre-high section along Highway 401 in Toronto, and results were monitored for eight months. Emissions from tailpipes, are channelled into the airspace to react with

the coating and converted to nitrogen and oxygen. Cleaner air comes out of a gap at the bottom. It’s a solution that takes roadside air and, either through the action of the airflow or through the coating, substantially reduces pollution beyond the wall. Advanced computer models and wind tunnel tests conducted by Western University and University of Guelph in Canada confirmed that SmogStop can reduce overall traffic emissions in downwind neighbourhoods by 58% compared with

conventional noise barriers. National Highways in the UK trialled a smaller barrier at three metres last year. “We see huge potential to save lives across Europe,” says Steve Barnes, business development manager for Gramm Barrier. “SmogStop actively removes the traffic emissions, unlike other barriers that simply block them, so we’re helping save the lives of drivers as well as residents behind the barriers. We’re also stopping smog formation.” ▶Stand 08.508 www.smogstop.co.uk

Neurosoft arrives right on queue In addition to the boosting the number of commercial vehicle rest areas, there is a need to better manage what already exists for short-term parking. By more efficient management of vehicles’ entry and departure times more vehicles can be accommodated and also take up less parking space. With this in mind, Neurosoft in cooperation with Germany’s road agency Die Autobahn

des Bundes Niederlassung Südbayern has implemented the NeuroCar Queueparking system. A truck stops at an operator terminal, in front of a barrier, and the driver enters a desired departure time or pause time. Meanwhile, there is a simultaneous and automatic measurement of the truck via a laser scanner. A parking space is allocated according to the vehicle length and the

desired departure time. As well, a parking ticket is printed and then the barrier opens. Overhead displays indicate, with a green arrow, the correct parking row and the driver move into the space without leaving a gap. Importantly, the remaining free space is continuously measured – again, via laser scanner.

WATER-THINNABLE MARKINGS Even though there are improvements of solvent-based paints, Water-thinnable markings marking materials are increasingly the choice for future marking projects. Modern cold plastic systems have an exceptionally long lifetime and thus ensure permanent traffic guidance on roadways. They are solvent-free and eliminate the environmental impact of solvent emissions from acetone or toluene. Kansai Helios’ cold plastic systems in combination with cold spray plastics enable a lifetime of up to 20 years. The original markings are refreshed every two to three years in order to constantly meet all traffic requirements. Compared to traditional marking paints, 100% of the solvents can be saved. Even with very valuable resources such as titanium dioxide, the savings potential is around 30-50%. Compared to classic solvent-based marking systems, this fact alone means a significant improvement in the material balance in favor of cold plastics. All this is accompanied by the reduction of CO2 emissions from the production of the markings as well as from the transport of raw materials or finished products. This makes it possible to offer a significant contribution to road safety while maximising protection of the environment.

3M re-imagines approach to safety 3M which, for over 80 years, has engineered infrastructure solutions to improve the safety and mobility of our roads is inviting visitors to re-envision the future of urban roads. It’s a future where traffic accidents in urban areas can be reduced. Even eliminated. Take traffic signs. They communicate laws, directions, crosswalks, designated areas like bus stops and pedestrian zones, speed limits, work zones, and other key pieces of information that help drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. Visibility is crucial and the best way to ensure visibility is to use highly retroreflective fluorescent sheeting. The hightech digital printers on the 3M stand won’t just demonstrate how national regulations can be met, while working in a just-in-time

(JIT) mode, but also how full creativity in sign design is enhanced. Roads need highly visible pavement markings in a wide range of conditions, including challenging scenarios like night, dawn, dusk, and when it’s raining. Easily removable 3M markings offer workzone safety, pop-up bike lanes or things like temporary parking bays. Importantly, temporary markings have evolved to help cities evaluate urban design changes before deploying a permanent situation. And for permanent safety solutions, rainy, wet conditions can make it challenging to see pavement markings. The answer is wet-retroreflective beads to help improve visibility. Visitors will also see demonstrated

Röhm’s Degaroute proTerra makes its mark G

lobal megatrends such as sustainability and environmental protection have been playing a crucial role in the road marking sector for some time now. With this in mind, Röhm is now offering a resin for road markings that contains at least 30 percent recycled methyl methacrylate (RMMA) providing a significantly improved CO2 footprint. The company has chosen Intertraffic as the official launch of its Degaroute proTerra. Degaroute-based road markings are solvent-free, reactive systems. They produce almost no volatile organic compounds (VOC) and do not require external heat input during application. The advantages of methacrylate-based road markings are many. Degaroute proTerra combines durability, excellent visual and acoustic properties and fast processing with short curing times while saving resources. Laboratory and application tests show that the quality and performance of this innovation is comparable to already established products. Degarouote proTerra has been developed specifically for cold plastic and is characterised by excellent visibility and durability while at the same time offering

Boschung combats the dangers of ice Boschung introduced the first fixed systems for spreading thawing agents some decades ago and these systems are used across Europe, North America and Asia. As visitors to the company’s stand will see, the sensors to trigger the automated system have experienced further development in recent years. Boschung says that, together with the new RCM520 early ice warning system, its IT-Sens and IT-Arctis are the most reliable sensors on the market for triggering spraying systems. In addition, new ways to trigger spraying systems include non-invasive sensors which can detect road icing and thus generate automatic warnings. The Boschung r-condition, which the company claims is the most advanced contactless road condition monitoring sensor, is featured here at Intertraffic. This device integrates a camera that may be used to monitor the pavement like any other camera on a road weather information system (RWIS).

Intercomp weighs in with innovations I

ntercomp, a worldwide manufacturer of fixed and portable vehicle weighing and measurement products, is showcasing some recent innovations including the LTR788 Dual Wheel Load Scale, and the new MicroStrip Sensor. Intercomp utilises highly accurate strain gauge load sensing technology which is widely accepted as the most accurate and reliable means to weigh a vehicle. The MicroStrip Sensor offers a cost-effective alternative to piezoelectric sensors for weighin-motion (WIM) data-collection with lower ownership costs. It has a lower profile and is more economical than Intercomp’s standard strip sensor. However, it has the same benefit of GaugeSense technology that uses

42

strain gauge load cells for weigh-in-motion calculation, providing better accuracy and greater robustness than piezoelectric sensors. Bringing new capabilities to wheel load scales, the LTR788 Dual Wheel Load Scale was created for direct measurement of individual tyre loading in a dual-tyre configuration. This enables service inspections of individual tyre ratings and allows tyre anomalies to be detected with a portable digital scale. Tyre loading and tyre conditions impact fuel economy and braking distance, and tyre failure can lead to accidents and debris on roads. ▶Stand 01.211 www.intercompcompany.com

TRAFFIC DATA SYSTEMS DETECTS SUCCESS AHEAD A

t Intertraffic 2022, Traffic Data Systems is introducing the TDS 824, a brand-new detector/classifier module for eight channels (four lanes with double loops). It has been developed for roadside remote stations and traffic light systems in demanding situations. The TDS 824 will satisfy customer requirements for effectively decoupling external interference, for example from trams and other sources. The high integration density enables eight channels/ four double loop modules on a 19-inch card for rack mounting or in a top hat rail module. The TDS 824 features Traffic Data Systems’ powerful lanechanging recognition software that prevents double-counting and misclassification of vehicles changing lanes. The eight channels of the TDS 824 module use a continuous measuring process (no time multiplexing) and utilise more than 16 fixed frequencies, which are set and calibrated fully automatically, without DIP switches. The distance between the TDS 824 and the loops can

KSK has magnetic appeal

Pawel Kasperek

K

SK’s Magnetic Sensor is a wireless detector system for parking spaces that are located in the dense urban areas. Each parking space is equipped with the wireless sensor that is mounted directly onto the parking space’s surface. The sensor, from the Polish company KSK, detects the vehicle based on the continuous measurement of the natural magnetic field of the Earth;

it records field disturbance caused by the vehicle when it enters the parking space. The information about the occupancy of the parking space is verified by radar sensor and directed by radio to the collecting device - using the LoRa network – via a private or a public IoT network. The information can be presented to the parking manager on a smartphone’s app or the LED traffic sign display.

Installation of the sensors is not invasive and is simple and fast. There are no disruptions to any other systems operating within the parking area. And configuration of the sensors may be done by downlink frames sent from a PC. It is also possible to integrate a magnetic sensor with mobile apps, active LED signs and other public space management. ▶Stand 10.507 www.ksk-dev.com

To mitigate the privacy risks associated with automated camera enforcement, the company utilises a privacy-by-design approach. The Hayden AI platform temporarily stores

the recordings of possible bus lane violations and analyses the information at the edge in real time, instead of transferring the data to a central server for processing. To avoid infringing on the privacy of citizens who are not involved in the incident, the platform only captures and retains information for specific traffic violations. It does not record or capture other data and does not use any facial recognition software. ▶Stand 05.416 www.hayden.ai

Book-nPark holds e-mobility in reserve As the infrastructure for electric vehicles is rolled out, accessing it is becoming more and more important if the e-revolution in mobility is to become a reality. Created by Green Mobility Solutions (GMS), Book-n-Park parking barriers keep e-charging points free for use and make charging stations reservable for drivers who want to beat ‘range anxiety’. The barriers are batterypowered and controlled via a smartphone app to ensure that the station remains free and its availability is always clear on the control system. Available from single parking spaces up to large parking areas, the Internet of Things technology can be retrofitted in automatic barriers, gates, chains and bollard systems. “The solution means users can check availability, reserve charging points at short notice, drive there, open the locking bar on their smartphone and charge in a relaxed manner,” says GMS managing director Mathias Hornjak. German car manufacturer Audi has equipped its first charging hub – more are planned all over the country – with this intelligent reservation system, which means drivers can reserve one of six stations online for up to 30 minutes. GMS says benefits of the system include several years of battery life and easy installation and removal.

he Micro terminal delivers the latest cashless smart payment technology in a small, robust form factor. Metric terminals have already changed the face of parking payment solutions with options for cashless, card, chip and PIN and QR/Bar code payment. The Micro terminal takes that evolution to the next stage, by providing an easy-touse cashless payment terminal for any unattended service. Designed with smart payment features for use throughout the world, its compact form factor means it will easily integrate with a user’s current service technology in any indoor, or outdoor environment, on- or off-street. Micro mounts easily to existing poles or walls, without the need for additional costly infrastructure upgrades and installations. Another Metric product being highlighted is the Sprite. Designed with the global market in mind, the Sprite can be used for many parking modes and multi-service applications. The terminal accepts coins, banknotes as well as credit cards. Integration is possible with local smart card schemes and QR codes can be read using an optional barcode reader. Meanwhile, the AI-Gate

HTC at your service HTC is offering its Speedgates product “as a service”, which means that users no longer buy one of the parking gates but simply pay a fixed amount per month during the agreed usage period of 10-15 years. Set against agreed performance and use conditions, HTC takes care of all service and maintenance and the reuse of parts and product. This means customers know exactly what it will cost – and contracts were recently concluded with Schiphol Express and a business park in Heemskerk. When it comes to temporarily securing vehicle access to sites, HTC has also developed solutions for events (Xentry Mobile) and construction (Xentry On Site).
