THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF MARINE INDUSTRY ASSOCIATIONS – ICOMIA – IS THE INTERNATIONAL TRADE ASSOCIATION REPRESENTING THE GLOBAL MARINE INDUSTRY SINCE 1966 • 36 national federations across the world are full members of ICOMIA today - our members include the vast majority of the industrialised countries from North America across to Japan and China and from Finland to New Zealand. ICOMIA brings together its members in one global organisation and represents them at an international level • ICOMIA’s objectives are to provide a forum for the exchange of views between the different national marine industry associations, to produce internationally agreed standards to ensure high quality and safety of industry’s products, to remove all barriers to trade - wherever they may exist - to promote boating and to give guidelines where appropriate • ICOMIA’s working committees address issues facing the industry worldwide - for example, the ICOMIA Marinas Group (IMG) seeks to improve the sharing and exchange of information with respect to the development and best practice management of marinas, boat storage facilities, boating access and associated infrastructure throughout the world

DELEGATE GUIDE

WELCOME TO THE ICOMIA WORLD MARINAS CONFERENCE 2016 Dear Conference Delegate, ICOMIA is especially proud to present the 9th ICOMIA World Marinas Conference being held in Amsterdam – the venue of the first ever Conference held 23 years ago. Our last IWMC was held in Istanbul, Turkey in 2014 and following this conference the next IWMC will be held in Auckland, New Zealand in 2018. The leading light in ensuring successful future developments of marina facilities around the globe, IWMC is the key initiative of the ICOMIA Marinas Group (IMG) – and I would like to congratulate and thank IMG and our hosts HISWA Holland Marine Industry for preparing such an interesting and relevant conference for us all again this year. Jouko Huju,

I would also like to thank RAI Amsterdam for organising the

conference so efficiently and professionally and our media partner, Marina World, for their promotional campaigns. We are also incredibly grateful for our sponsors – their booths will excite your interest and imagination – and for our panellists, who have found time to prepare the many presentations as well as travelling to Amsterdam. And, last but not least – thank you delegates – for your support of this conference since without you none of this would be possible. Welcome to the ICOMIA World Marinas Conference 2016!

WELCOME

Welcome to Amsterdam, the founder of the leisure marine industry. It’s impossible to overestimate the importance of Dutch heritage to the leisure marine industry. Our international orientation in the maritime world dates back to the Golden Age of the 1600s when half of all Europe’s trade was transported by ships from the Netherlands. The first wealthy individual to be presented with a ‘superyacht’ was the British monarch Charles II. Holland is the ‘Land of Water’ with more than 10,000 kilometers of inland waterways suitable for navigation. Almost 25% of all marinas in Europe are situated in the Netherlands and more than 4,000 companies are active in leisure, production and trade within the recreational marine and watersport industry. We are very happy to host industry professionals and academics to investigate ‘The future of marinas in a changing world’ and together explore the state of the global marina industry and emerging markets.

Geert Dijks Managing Director HISWA Holland Marine Industry

After two busy days of learning and sharing experiences, we offer a well-deserved relaxing tour to visit three state of the art marinas in the Northern part of Holland. The route will include passing one of the well-known Dutch dykes which divides the two largest freshwater lakes. I am delighted to welcome you to Amsterdam and I wish you a very enjoyable and engaging conference.

DELEGATE GUIDE

WELCOME

For almost a quarter of a century, the ICOMIA Marinas Group (IMG) has sought to improve the sharing and exchange of information with respect to the development and best practice management of marinas, boat storage facilities, boating access and associated infrastructure throughout the world. Within the membership of IMG are many professionals possessing a wealth of knowledge and expertise. As the key initiative of the IMG Outreach and Support Programme, every second year the Group organises and presents its major industry event, the ICOMIA World Marinas Conference. The 2016 conference programme comprises a unique and intriguing blend of topics. We will learn about and debate the global state of marina business with the best international experts, while speakers from all over the world will give insights into their evolving industries. In the breakout sessions, marina operators will learn about

Roberto Perocchio Chairman ICOMIA Marinas Group

operational and environmental best practice, ideas to maximise revenue, risk, liability and the tourism market. Those more interested in marina development will learn about masterplanning and the site selection process, as well as learning about designs for superyacht facilities, environmental issues, how public-private partnership finances works and much more. In a world that is getting smaller, the global marina community finds in the conference the opportunity to better understand the international boating market and its trends. In addition the marinas tour offers the opportunity to discuss typical marina issues on site; learning directly from the long tradition and attitude of innovation developed in the Netherlands. Welcome to Amsterdam!

Montreal marina, -25°C, 1.50m of ice…

"Pontoons designed to stand up to extreme conditions" When I met the manager of Poralu Marine, North America, what I liked was that he understood my concerns immediately. In Quebec, the range of temperature between winter and summer is immense. The pontoons are immersed in water (I should say in ice!) all through the winter!… The mechanical stresses are therefore extreme. In spring, when I opened the marina to the public, the pontoons, catwalks and bridges were in perfect condition. The marina was ready to welcome users in less than a day of preparation. My logistic expenses have been optimised and my teams can concentrate on other tasks. Sylvain Deschamps Director, Montreal Yacht Club

PRESENTATIONS DAY TWO 4.1 MARINA OPERATIONS INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS Wireless solutions for smart marinas This presentation will demonstrate how the new technologies of communications using an integrated network and wireless connections allow to supervise and monitor all the different equipment in a marina. New technologies and IT serving the marina 2.0 is a new way of thinking, for both the berth holder and the marina manager by collecting, crossing and sharing all data to forward instant information. A practical example of a Smart Marina will be given with Le Havre marina system implementation. Stéphanie de Bazelaire • S2F Network • CEO Stéphane Millot • S2F Network • Commercial Director

Creating a new CRM marine culture This presentation will explore the marina focused CRM that is changing the way marinas operate and how it can improve marina management - not only for managers and staff but also improve customer experience for long-term satisfaction and loyalty. Added value for marina customers includes: flexibility in communication and ordering services, whilst staff benefit from process automation. Managers gain a complete overview of marina operations, and flexible problem solving techniques in the rapidly changing marina environment. The result is optimized processes among staff, raised productivity, increased income with optimized facility management and improved customer experience. 4.3 MARKETING UNDERSTANDING THE CUSTOMER Consumer global trends versus boaters trends. Are you fully aligned? The world is changing and so is the boater’s behavior that impacts on the marina business. As boat designs change to meet the needs of consumers, attract existing and new audiences, marinas are changing their marketing tools, services and ways to approach customers. In Spain ANEN (Spanish Marine Trade Association) has conducted a survey to understand boater’s consumption trends, and other MIA’s are doing similar surveys that are arising interesting data, necessary to know to drive the future of marinas. Love Your Women - Engaging with Women in Boating This presentation will explore the contribution women make in the decision to buy and retain a boat and how engaging with women can improve client retention, revenue and customer satisfaction. The boating industry is a male dominated arena that could benefit from the introduction of more women. Nicky will provide case studies of a range of initiatives that include boating skills and social activities that have dramatically increased the engagement and enjoyment of women in the boating lifestyle centered around the marina which has in turn increased marina revenue and client retention. She will discuss how to engage with women buying boats, and how women can be integrated successfully into your team to increase revenue and assist in customer satisfaction and retention. This presentation will also provide marketing initiatives and practical social media strategies for engaging women. Nicky Vaux • Empire Boat Sales • Sales Director

4.4 CUSTOMER CARE PAMPERING THE BERTH-HOLDER Sales and marketing strategy innovations in Marina Punat, Croatia The presentation will introduce the way Marina Punat recognised the signs of the economic crisis and the challenge of changes in the nautical market; introducing a new marketing approach to its customers. Marina Punat’s focus is not only on the boat but also on the berth holder, especially when concerning the berth holder’s awareness about the services the marina provides. In addition, its

marketing activities are focused on the advantages and benefits the customer gets when selecting Marina Punat, including berths with innovative packaging such as basic, premium, premium comfort, premium plus and the dry-dock and dry-marina services. The packages are modelled and targeted to specific segments of consumers, depending on their needs. Much of the emphasis is on the safety of the vessel and safety for the client. Renata will also review marinas providing similarly innovative services, such as MDL marinas, Marina di Varazze and several marina systems of D-Marin. Renata Marević • Marina Punat • Marina Manager

Achieving excellence in customer service This presentation will focus on ‘The 10 Commandments of Excellent Customer Service’, an integral part of employee expectation. Reviewing and defining the term “Excellent Customer Service” and identifying the three steps to achieve excellent customer service: (1) Invest in customer training (2) Anticipate customer’s needs and (3) Provide performance feedback. Dennis Kissman • Marina Management Services • President

CLOSING PLENARY SESSION Marina financing models This presentation will explore the many different ways to finance a marina around the world, identify the most common models and highlight their advantages and disadvantages. A marina project is usually integrated with other related businesses (real estate, hotel, commercial units and this relationship cannot be disregarded when financing the project. The business plan and the chosen model of operating a marina will also influence the cash flow and the financing model of the business itself. Different countries use different models; public marinas do it differently from private ones. There is not one model that will work better universally; there is not one applicable for all countries.
