WELCOME TO COLUMBIA THREADNEEDLE WORLD TRIATHLON LEEDS The organising team would like to extend a warm welcome to all elite triathletes racing at this year’s edition of the Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds – your support of this landmark event is truly fantastic. Over the weekend of 10 and 11 June 2017, we will see more than 3,000 triathletes completing their triathlon experience. Many will be completing their very first triathlon whilst the more experienced triathletes will be competing for the coveted 2017 British age-group titles on offer in the standard distance races. This year we have been working closely with the agegroup community to create an event to be proud of with an exciting new course that will maximise your race experience. Roundhay Park is the beating heart of the event for age-group participants in 2017 hosting a single transition area as well as a host of essential amenities within our new Event Village. Of course, the Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds also hosts the fourth leg of the ITU World Triathlon Series. Leeds is home to many of Britain’s leading triathletes and the action is sure to be non-stop on Sunday from 1pm, when your elite races get underway. WELCOME

WELCOME FROM BRITISH TRIATHLON

WELCOME FROM LEEDS CITY COUNCIL

Welcome to the second Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds to take place in the city.

We are extremely proud to be welcoming once again the Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds to our city this year.

This event represents the pinnacle of triathlon competition in the UK and provides both elite and amateur triathletes with a unique opportunity to compete on a city-centre course in front of thousands of spectators. Following in the footsteps of last year’s inaugural competition, this event will again bring the population of Leeds out onto the streets to watch you racing against each other in round 4 of the 2017 ITU World Triathlon Series. I hope you will agree that the City of Leeds has quickly become a firm favourite in the global calendar and ranks alongside other global destinations like Abu Dhabi, Stockholm and Yokohama. The elite racing will be tremendously exciting and inspirational. Equally as inspiring will be the sight of first timers and age-groupers racing on this iconic course. As elite triathletes, I hope you will join us in wishing all competitors the very best. We want them to be inspired by you to continue their participation and support for our sport. Allow me to wish you the best of luck and have a great time in Leeds. Ian Howard TD President, British Triathlon

As a city we would like to offer a big welcome to triathletes who will be travelling to Leeds from near and far to participate, the media and of course the many, many spectators who last year created such an amazing atmosphere. The arrival of the Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds offers another tremendous opportunity to show people around the world that we are a true city of sport, and we cannot wait for the fun to begin on 10 June. We hope everyone has a wonderful time in Leeds over the weekend, and the very best of luck to all those athletes who are competing and a big thank you to those people who are giving up their time to volunteer. It is no exaggeration to say that an event the size of this one could not be held without your support. Councillor Judith Blake, Leader of Leeds City Council

WELCOME and abilities. Leeds has also committed to seeing our great sport grow amongst local youngsters by organising TriStar, Youth and Junior triathlons, as well as a paratriathlon race. We had the opportunity to see the race first-hand last year, and I’m sure that we will experience a fantastic spectacle again this June. The historical city of Leeds is the perfect backdrop for all the triathlon events, with its fantastic city dressing setting up the perfect backdrop for family-friendly sports action for its citizens and visitors. After all, triathlon is a sport anyone can do regardless of age or gender.

WELCOME FROM THE INTERNATIONAL TRIATHLON UNION Greetings and welcome all to the 2017 Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds, I’m thrilled to welcome you all, for the second consecutive year, to the city of Leeds for the ITU World Triathlon Series. It’s enormously exciting to be back again to this city, which breathes triathlon and has been welcoming triathletes for so long. Great Britain has always been an important part of ITU’s history, and now Leeds is also an active part of that history. ITU has had a lasting and excellent relationship with the UK for many years now, with the capital first appearing on the ITU World Triathlon Series calendar in 2009. Since then, the country has hosted numerous ITU World Triathlon Series races, a Grand Final and the London 2012 Olympic Games, and in 2016, we welcomed another English city, Leeds, to the ITU family. We then experienced a race in the heart of the city with thousands of people cheering on the streets, we loved it so much that we are ready to come back. Leeds is also the hometown city to ITU favourites, brothers Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, as well as the training grounds of many British greats such as Non Stanford. I’m sure the Brownlee Brothers will keep on their minds, as we all do, their victory from last year and the thousands of spectators cheering them while crossing the finish line. With a whole city feeling enormously proud of their triathletes, and the local crowd in full force to cheer for their hometown heroes, I’m sure we will witness some epic racing again on the streets of Leeds in 2017. But the triathlon races will not end with elites, with the weekend including lots of different races and options for triathlon enthusiasts of all ages

I would like to thank British Triathlon, the Local Organising Committee, our partners at Columbia Threadneedle, UK Sport and all the volunteers and the city of Leeds for helping to put this weekend together. I really hope you can all enjoy the beautiful city of Leeds and the spectacle of ITU triathlon at its best. Have a wonderful weekend! Marisol Casado, President, International Triathlon Union IOC Member
